An organized store with attentive staff. We were shopping for Pokémon cards and picked out a couple single cards, for 10-50 cents, and a few $4.99 booster packs. There were plenty of marked up boxes/packs, but lots of solid prices depending on what you are looking for. I wish I had something good to say. We are seasoned collectors and traders. We decided to take a look as I was hunting for some singles and my partner was interested in sealed product. First off, the card I asked to view was market $60 NM. The card in their case was labeled as LP, and I asked to get pricing . She came back with a $98 price that made me do a double-take. I asked for an explanation on the pricing given it was so egregiously overpriced without cause. She said they don't base pricing off of current market evaluations . SO I am just very confused how a customer is suppose to value any of their products when the store doesn't seem to value the customer experience or shoppers intelligence. Also only offering 50% trades is robbery. 60% in store credit is useless when everything is so badly overpriced. I hope no one falls for that. The sealed product pricing was higher than the most aggressive scalpers I've seen. This is not a store for collectors or intelligent buyers. If you want to knowingly overpay 40%, this place is for you. Yikes. read more

Love the store and the products, but the service from this one chick has consistently wack and unhelpful. I've been to the store a few times, and every single time, there's this one annoying a** chick working there who just can't seem to hide her attitude, Like she left her pads at home. I'd ask a simple and friendly questions nothing to hard like "Oh whats the newest pokemon set you guys have" Or "Do you guys have xyz by chance", and literally, she'd let out these deep exaggerated sighs, like if answering was a burden to her existents bro It was as if my questions were personally ruining her day. tbh it's more comical how much effort she put into making it clear she didn't gaf. Also While the shop does offer PSA cards at ok prices, the rest of the inventory is pretty overpriced, which makes it hard to justify shopping here. To start this off, I am not green to the "trading" part of trading card games. The struggle of induvidual listings on a particular 3rd party seller weigh heavy on oneself, while finding local game stores to accept and properly assess trade in value are few and far between. Nonetheless, Ms. Hailey expertly guided me through the process that 3rd Coast Cards has adapted to receiving both singles of MTG cards to bulk MTG as well. She was very informative as of how as little as 20 "valuable" cards verus 1500 "bulk" cards might be honestly and understandably have a different time table for processing. If you are looking to sell/trade in cards for MTG, I would highly recommend taking care of the excellent staff avaliable so they may do the same to you. Honest, upfront, and for their money the same as you are. List your cards with them, sell outright, or perhaps store credit may be your prerogative. I decided to finally post this as I have been thinking about it and it still upsets me. First off - Giving credit where it is due. The players there were REALLY nice. Every participant received a small promo booster and promo card which is also really nice. Now on to my issue... I just returned to playing Magic the Gathering again and decided to go to this shop for a draft. Since it was early evening and I hadn't had anything to eat all day I picked up McDonalds on the way. At previous other stores I visited I have seen other customers with fast food so I thought nothing of it. Got to the store and started to eat my meal while waiting for the draft to get organized. A nice lady came up to me and told me for future reference that there isn't any outside food allowed in the store. I apologized as I didn't know (not even sure there was a sign but I didn't check so...). The draft started before I could finish eating so I drafted & constructed. With time to spare afterwards, I decide to finish my sandwich. Another employee comes up (tall guy with a beard) and tells me that there is no outside food etc. I apologized again for not knowing. I then tried to finish my sandwich and the same guy came up to me and told me I had to take my food outside. I am a BRAND NEW customer - He decided to embarrass me by asking me to leave the store to eat?!? This left a really bad taste in my mouth (pun intended). Now if they told me last Saturday no food - and the next week I proceed to bring food in again - I can see this type of response. But to do so to a new customer (potentially long term customer) this didn't make any sense to me and seems like poor business practice. I had his store marked to visit every Saturday when I could make it. I also like to buy a lot of cards which would make me a very good customer for them. I went to this place last night with four, 9 year olds that were really excited to check a new comic store out. The store is very organized and they seem to have a pretty large collection, it's actually pretty cool once inside. I believe that the gentlemen working last night was the owner, He was very nice and helpful. The lady however, seemed to be very irritated at my boys for wanting to know the price of several cards. It IS a comic book store, so I think it's normal to have young boys be super stoked and ask a bunch of questions. We ended up buying 4 cards, and would have possibly bought more if she had been a little friendlier. However, we didnt want to bother her by asking her for the price of any additional cards. I dont think we will be going back. The staff at Bedrock City Comic Co. is much friendlier and eager to help, even 9 year olds. read more

My 1 and only experience here was bad. I couldn't get anyone to help me and when I finally did the mark up was way over what other stores are charging. I have been shopping at comic and card shops in the Houston area since 1991 and this by far is the worst shop I have stepped foot in. It looks great and is very organized but it hides the truth. There's a reason why this place has 2 and a half stars over all. My father took my son today and just had an awful experience with the owner! The owner of all people! (At least that's what he claims to be) caused a seen in front of my 9 year old son and was screaming in front of him. All because his Pokémon/ baseball cards are extremely over priced. I'm all for supporting small mom and pop stores during this time, but causing a seen in front of children is insane. If you want a great experience and great prices, take your business to "Odyssey comics and cards" great customer service and great prices! My old man and my son found packs for nearly half the price! I came by one day as I was looking around Houston to see if there was a different shop Id like more than my normal as I work in the Katy area, The lady at the desk was less than helpful and I politely asked if they took pokemon cards for trade in and did not seem to want to conduct any business, Knowing the value of all the cards I owned the lady low balled me but I still accepted the trade in as they had a selection of older sets of pokemon cards that are hard to obtain, all the pricing was marked up to say the least even for Temporal Forces. I decided to get some Silver Tempest packs and they were questionable at the least, not because I didnt get a hit but because of how the pack was sealed, the material felt off itself, the gluing for the packaging was suspect as well. I would rate them lower but they do have a "wide selection" of cards. I would never refer this company and would never purchase another item from them due to suspicion and just being plain out unpleasant to deal with, Im sure they have their select customers theyre nice to but I surly was not one of them. read more

Honestly had a pretty decent experience here with employees in the past, but after this most recent experience won't have my coming back anytime soon. This is the first Pokemon card shop I've been to in Houston and unfortunately they're scalpers. At the time of this review they were asking for sealed product at well over double MSRP such as single booster packs worth $4 at $8 or more depending on set, and a Marnie PTC worth $40 at $95. Prices on singles are also scalped; they won't sell them at TCG market value and instead ask for an arbitrarily higher price as determined by their own system. Some singles I had them price were 80% to 130% over market value for that card and condition. It would seem for Pokemon products that their only customers would be those who don't know they're being gouged. New players and collectors be warned. read more

2010's business model meets 1980s card shop and then you have 3rd Coast Cards. Since, I went full nerd, and started preparing for Pro Tour Qualifiers, yes there is such a thing, for magic, I had to find the nearest location to play. Well most of the big events in town happen here. I had seen their online stores plenty of time when searching to purchase cards but never physically went to the store. Well I was in need of a few cards for my upcoming tournament so I figured I'd stop by the store. First it's a bit hard to find but it's in a small shopping center next to a donut shop. When the donut shop closes, the pass on their donuts to the card shop so food + cards = YAY! So what is their business model? Well instead of having boxes and boxes of cards and letting random people rummage through them they have all of the cards categorized and databased. They have a laptop setup so you can search for the cards you need, create a shopping cart and they go and get the cards for you. NO SHIPPING of course. SAVES SO MUCH TIME!!! I have noticed other card shops are taking the same business model. This place still has the old school long white tables and they hold drafts and constructed Friday Night Magic. read more

I traded in a jeweled lotus, mana drain, three meat hook massacre, and about 25 other cards above 10 dollars each. All cards were near mint and their offer was $153. Ever since I had moved to Katy, I have been itching to find a card shop that's closer and has a wider variety of choices. And I came across this place during an errand, and compared the ones I went to in the past this one has a larger space which not only allows it to have more cards to select from but a good variety of anime items to purchase from Pokémon to Gundam. While some of the reviews have claimed their goods to be overpriced, I found the one I purchased to have a fair price and the person who was at the register to be quite polite and patient with me while I was making the purchase. Great business! I ordered online and called to confirm my pick up and everything was set just right. They started pulling my card order right away so I was able to pick it up same day and that is amazing! Owner was very polite and made sure everything was good with the order and that I knew how to contact them if I wanted a more custom order incase they didn't have the cards in stock. Workers were very nice and responsive and assisted as soon as I came in. I'm not sure why other people reviewing here assume the worst about them but I was nice to them and they were very polite to me. You treat them right and they will treat you even better. I took my son there to play. I got several looks and it was very awkward for me. I did not feel very safe and I would never allow my teenage kids to go there unsupervised. I tried to complain to the manager about the restroom. Her reply was very rude and I ask to speak to her supervisor. She said the owner would just tell us to leave rather than fix the problem. Two visits have resulted in two horrible experiences in customer service. Each time we were ignored by the sole employee who had to be tracked down and then offered rude commentary and slow service. The general atmosphere of the shop is cold and unwelcoming. If you want a great gaming experience with much less attitude (and better Magic prices) go to Asgard games off of Kirby. The only reason I am giving three stars is because of the wide selection of items and the friendly customers who are always down to play commander and other formats. As far as the actual staff goes, the owner is probably the most rude and unprofessional I've ever seen. Most shops I've been to have actually cared about their customers and no where in 3rd coast would I say that's true. It's unfortunate because it's a cool place, but the staff and owner are rude. Never have I felt so unwanted in a place where I've wanted to spend my money. Recently moved from Jersey and needed a place to play. Ive only been to the store twice but can already call it my home away from home.Mainly play magic and was a returning player and the staff was an amazing help catching me up to everything. Even when I decided to start playing yugioh as well the players helped me out teaching me basics, deck building,etc. prices are good for budget players and its a great place to make friends. Location: While its a lengthy drive out from Houston. You are definitely amazed at just how large this location is compared to other card shops. Left of the entrance is an entire wall full of Magic booster boxes and glass cases filled with all the Rares and Mythics you could imagine. However, sometimes this makes the place quite intimidating. When I first visited I wasn't quite sure who was in charge so we stood for a long time waiting for help. However, if you're looking for a place that will have a seat for you at FNM this is that place. I appreciate the uniform tables and chairs that make it easy to find a spot to play and give enough walk room to reach your seat. One thing they could improve on is just numbering the tables so players can find their opponents with more ease because there are just those few players who refuse to get up from their seat to even look at who their opponent is and then refuse to seat elsewhere. BUT...I love the parking space Thank You so much for making it easy to park somewhere. Customer Service: This is where my lack of stars come from. I have nothing but praise for the owner himself, as he was delightful and gave me a free booster pack which landed me a Jace, the Mind Sculptor. When we first met him, he was nice and asked us where we came from when we told him Alvin he told us about how we first started there and moved his up but sadly we don't see him often enough as his employees are disappointing. It's sometimes hard to know who's on duty, and we once sat down to play as we waited to figure out who was in charge when we did we asked if we could purchase some cards. He then proceeded to tell us how he was already being kind enough to keep the store open so the customers could play and that if we wanted cards we should have asked sooner. He said this to us as he was sitting down playing magic with a group of guys which was what had made it hard for us to approach him in the first place. On another occasion we handed a list of cards we needed to an employee and were looking around at the glass cases when a different employee came up to us and proceeded to tell us that we should know that Yugi cards were not as well known in the store as they mainly focused on magic it was until he finally looked at our faces that he realized he was talking to the wrong people. We only play magic, but had we been the people who ordered Yugi cards honestly if you just made me wait that long and then come up annoyed that you had get the cards I came to buy even though thats the business your store is running I would have been 100X more insulted. These employees just seem annoyed all the time and hate to be bothered. That's just a shame as having that job is the coolest thing in my opinion. Prices: Well the prices are great and this is mainly due to the fact that they are very well stocked. There is a hardly a time you won't find what you're looking for here. But one thing I don't like is that you aren't shown the conditions of the cards and are still expected to pay Mint price. So make sure to check your order before you leave the store. Last, if you ever need to sell something and you aren't sure a store wants that card these guys will anything. They do have a list of what they prefer but I've never seen them refuse to buy something from me. Overall, I keep coming back because of the availability of cards and their prices. But I would only give you five stars if you could make it a more pleasant experience when buying cards and asking employees for help. read more

The first time I came in I was like a child in a candy store, it had been so long since I have been in a card store that was totally dedicated to selling cards. The boxes of singles, the clear glass cases with expensive rares, all the fond memories of the 90s card shop I visited during my early childhood years came rushing to me. I stood looking at the cards for a good 30 minutes without anyone approaching to ask if I needed assitance. I had to approach the counter to receive any help. The clerk was very rude, when I asked him to price out some cards for me. The prices at the store were not bad overall still cheaper than ebay or amazon. That day I spent almost 100 dollars, that may not seen like much, a 100 dollars may not seem like much but keep in mind that this is only magic cards. The second time I visited, I had a slightly better experience, I don't know if the clerk had remember me from before or he was in a better mood but he was slighly more polite. On my second visit I spent about 80 dollars on singles. My third and so far final visit is by far my worst experience. It was on the release date of Dark Ascension. This was the first time I had ever came into contact with the owner and I have to say if my experience was based purely on him I would have given this place a 1 star. He not only openly gave the customer infront of me a discount but he did it right in front of my face, which is a very bad practice for a business owners. I ignored that fact and went about my business in making my purchases. That day I spent a total of 270 dollars on Dark Ascension boaster boxes and singles. I was not only offered the free promo card but when I saw another customer asking for it and I asked for mine, the owner gave me a very condescending attitude before giving it to me. The clerk who helped me that day was the same as the one who had helped me the previous two times, again I don't know if he remembered me from the last times but he was acutally pretty polite to me this time, and I was relatively happy with his customer service. So to conclude I love the atmosphere of 3rd Coast and their prices is often cheaper than online sellers, but their customer service so far beyond subpar. read more

For reference, I am a competitive gamer, so my review is biased around that axis. The customer service has improved drastically with the newest set of hires, so no complaints there anymore. There is plenty of room, the card selection is endless, and the owner is hilarious. There is plenty of lighting, and the player atmosphere is just a mile above places like heroes. Sometimes the owner is made out to be rude by customers, but the truth is he just doesn't take nonsense, and he is very strict on people who are known to try and rip people off in trades. There is a pretty long list of players banned at this store, and all of them for good reason. Overall a great place to spend leisure time and to buy singles. read more

I moved to katy roughly 5 years ago and this shop was always my home away from home. The owner is such a nice guy and the staff are just as nice. I played a lot of magic and went to every FNM and prerelease that I could and always had a great time. The prices are always up to date and they have great deals. 3rd Coast Cards is a big step up from where i normally play. I started playing competetively in midde sclool where my locals was a college, Columbus State University. So needless to say My skill/knowledge of the game has increased exponentially since then. Well I am in my 2nd year of High sclool now and coming from south side Columbus Georgia this place was like a safe haven for me. Their selection of MTG cards is remarkable even though their prices may be a little high, still better then buying overline. They also have a legetimate selection of YuGiOh cards, although you may be better off buying a box rather then single cards, none the less it is their. Oh, and yeah we got your Van Gaurd stuff too. Before I came here i didn't even know if places like this could exist! So admittingly I am biased. They also hold weekly tournaments and I am happy to say that I won a tournament here the very first time I came here.Not to say their aren't some very challenging/expert players here and I will admit to being overwhelmingly lucky on many occasions. Still it feels good to have some...recognition? If you are looking for a grade "A", top of the line card store! 3rd Coast is not it ^-^ However, if you are looking for a trashy, run of the mill card store 3rd coast is definately not that either!!! I have been numerous times now and can only speak from my own experiences but the people here are something special. Ever stayed up till 2 in the morning playing COD with your best friends?Just me?
