I called ahead with my yelp discount and the mechanic said 15 minutes. When I got there, he had two cars to do before mine and he extremely finished them both and mine in less than 15 minutes!! He was pleasant, helpful, but also was working extremely hard and efficiently. I highly recommend them!!!!! Don't forget to bring cash! read more

I bought this through Groupon. As it is an older vehicle I knew from the fine print that there would be an extra charge for that. Turns out though that if you don't pay that in cash there's another $10 charge. They charge you for using a cedit card only for coupons, mind you, not for full priced service. When I complained I was rudely told to "check the find print next time". Well, I got home and checked the fine print. Surprise it isn't in there. Now for the topper, they failed it because they said the header wasn't approved. Well, it is - CARB E.O. #: D-540-5, it's stamped right on the side, it's marketed specifically for California and the people I took it to after had no problem passing it. Bottom line, these guys are shady and not very competent. read more

I just got my Jeep Cherokee smog check done here today. It is the best price in town. The check only took 5-10 minutes. I would recommend everyone to come here. I parked my 2008 Prius on the street to avoid blocking the bay just to ask a question. When he told me he was available, I pulled my car in and asked to confirm the price. After he answered, I checked my wallet and was short by a few dollars. As I turned around to go to the bank, visibly frustrated with myself for not checking my wallet first on a busy day, he offered right away to accept as payment the amount I had with me. To be frank, I came here because I had a valpak coupon, but I'll be coming here in the future regardless. The Inspector was Jason who handled four customers, including me within 15 minutes. The first customer with a VW was being serviced as I arrived and he started on my paperwork. He completed the first customer and moved to the second, a Honda Pilot SUV. The fourth customer arrived and he started on his paperwork. He finished the second and moved on to me. About 5 minutes later and I was done. He completed my paperwork and moved to the fourth as I was leaving. All this was done as he shuffled cars around a busy corner gas station. It was a fluid vehicle ballet and quite a performance. So I called this place before coming over to verify the hours of operation and the price. Despite mentioning that I saw $19.75 on Yelp, the attendant still told me that it was $28 cash (they do not accept credit card). A bit misleading but decided to continue anyway. After I arrived, he informed me that it was absolutely necessary that I had my DMV paperwork, which is odd - you should only need the license plate, VIN number and registration. Regardless, I tried to abide by his instructions and told him I would return with my paperwork. I returned before 5pm and he looks at me and says, "I'm about to leave." He didn't even have the courtesy to tell me that I needed to return by a certain time for him to do the job and he didn't even seem to care what he told me. After driving there twice, that is the crappy service I receive. Don't bother wasting your time with someone that has so little regard for your time. I went directly to 7 Days A Week Smog on San Pablo - yes, they were more expensive (any/all retesting and cert are included), but they were very kind, professional, offered helpful advice for AAA members and finished in 5 minutes. The lazy attendant at this place couldn't bother completing a 5-minute smog after sending me away to get my paperwork. Then again, he probably just told me that so I would go away and he could leave, PERIOD. This is a shining example of a business where you'll get what you pay for. Maybe they are fast according to some of the other reviews; however, in this case they were just so inconsiderate that I found myself compelled to write this review. The smog check was done promptly and courteously. But...the pricing was sneaky. I have a Toyota Highlander and DMV paperwork that required a smog check from a Star station. He pointed to the fine print on the coupon and wanted to charge an extra $20 for the SUV and an extra $10 for the Star rating Thus an original $35 grew to $65. We settled at $50. So be prepared to barter like you are in the third world! read more

There are two locations; the one at Hopkins and the Alameda is busier so I go to the San Pablo (north of Gilman) shop. It's exactly as advertised on Yelp and on their web site. You have to mention the on-line price - $28 cash for cars made in 2000 or later - so tell them up front and don't try to pay by credit card or you will pay more. I was done in 10 minutes read more

Don't go here unless you have hours of time to kill and wait. It's a small one man one car station, and the operation is a mess. I went here on a weekday afternoon. Called before I went and no one answered. When I was there, I was told to come back in half an hour. When I came back in half an hour, was told have to wait at least another half an hour because someone else had an appointment, and that I could either wait or go somewhere else. I understand the desire for a business to practice price discrimination/offer deals and coupons in order to lure the most business at the best prices for them. However, this place is just shady in the way it hands out deals. When my wife went to get our car checked, they insisted it would be $58 and couldn't offer any deals even after she showed them their own offers on her smart-phone. I called up (not telling them my wife was there outside) and asked how much it would be - quoted the same deal my wife did and got them to agree to $38 out the door. I don't know why they would give out better deals on the phone, but I certainly don't appreciate them treating me so differently than my wife. read more

Fast, easy, and got the yelp advertised $28 cash, out the door. Called before hand to confirm, no appointment was needed, just needed to mention the yelp ad. Report was sent electronically, on site, and I received a receipt also. The guy was friendly and efficient. One car was ahead of me, and I waited less than 10 minutes total. (on a weekday) Amazing! When I went in Noah backed my car in, and then handed me paperwork to fill out. He had the wrong kind of car listed on the paper. If I hadn't noticed this it would have been a big headache with DMV. When I called his attention to it he got really offended and pulled my truck out and handed me the keys. He rudely grabbed the paperwork out of my hands (which I wanted to keep since it had my address and phone number on it) and walked off. I would NEVER recommend going here for a smog check. read more
