Our room had a balcony and faced the mountains with a nice view, which you should request--it was a free upgrade. The trade-off is that traffic on the nearby Trans Canada 1 can be somewhat noisy at night. Located on Boundary Road marking the boundary between Vancouver and Burnaby, with a Starbucks, Wendy's, and Walmart within easy walking distance. I think for the price of $60-$70 per night I really have no complaints. I can only speak for myself, but my room was very clean and the cleaning service did a really good job. I didn't find anything dirty or any broken electric outlets or anything. It's got all the basic necessities - clean bed, a tv, a desk, working microwave, wifi, and clean bathroom. I would add that there's no hairdryer or iron, but again those are the premium items that make hotels expensive, so I think it's unfair to hold such a high standard when we are paying such a low price. read more

I am currently staying here in room 30.I've stayed here MULTIPLE times in last 5 years. The new management (Al) is beyond AMAZING... it isn't a 4/5 star hotel, or a chain it is an inn. Don't come here thinking you get it all, cause you dont. Id much rather pay below $100 for a CLEAN, safe motel. I got the 2 queen bed room with smoking and pets allowed at $79 WOW! The decor isn't 2013 ... but who cares? It's super clean, fresh sheets & blankets, microwave, mini fridge, SMOKING ALLOWED, PETS ALLOWED! Cannot go wrong. Staff is helpful & super friendly. Al is absolutely amazing... price is right, cleanliness is 5/5 good place to stay if you can handle middle class. My name is Chantelle & this place is FAR better than most places ive stayed. -1 star rating it's because of the black mold on the ceiling, no toilet paper holder, and the room is supposed to be smoke free but someone before me covered the smoke detector with tissue, the refrigerator needs to be defrosted and leveled, the drapes are full of holes, and air comes in through the patio door, and it wouldn't lock. I have been in thousands of hotels, and this was the worse ever!!!!! Not only the rooms, in where it was impossible to sleep, but the service, the cleaning, the whole place is a mess!!! What a gross place, and we try to negotiate because it was extremely expensive for what it was, we had to pay 900$ for 4 nights, just because the rest of Vancouver was fully booked. Finally, due to the very bad service, we went to the police, the fire extinguishers were expired the exit door was very dirty and go on.... The rest of the clients who were sharing the hotel with us, were complaining too, every day was a new complain, and they did nothing but a smile and say yes. The worse situation was when a disable person had to go on the second floor and there was no elevator. They literally let that person crawl up the stairs... no words. Anyway, we call Booking, with whom we made the reservations, and advise them, to not have that hotel in their list, it was nothing but trouble, and asked for a refund, they only offer us 10% discount and the hotel is still in their list. This place was quite possible the worst place I've ever staid ever. The room was terrible, the beds were terrible you'd lay down and they'd cave in, the cleaning staff never removed the garbage from the room, not to mention their renovations that they were so proud of spray painted walls, nice touch. They only gave us one key to the room, what a joke. The doors didn't close probably or feel secure. Over all extremely disappointed in the overall condition of this place and didn't feel that the price was worth, what we received in return. We give it 3* for the motel but 4* for being helpful and courteous. We knew not to expec tmuch for an "inn" esp when it' was so cheap. We had drastic change of plans due to unfavorable and changing weather, which caused some conflict in our travel plans. The bnb we were to stay with had fallen through, leaving us in a big dilemma. Since we had limited internet access and no phone access, we decided to just settle for any place, and we found the online. Room was in Burnaby. Very close to the freeway. Spacious room w/ microwave & frig, which we didn't need. Room was fine for our very short stay as we checked in in the evening and was out of there by 7:30am. Didn't have a hair dryer or water kettle in the room;however a phone call and they sent me the items I needed. read more

Avoid!! This is the worst place to stay in all of Canada? Dirty, trashed, dirty towels, holes in towels, hole in the 'deck'. They never changed the sheets. Said it was a no smoking room. Bed spread had cigarette burn holes in it. Would only give one key, there were two us. Black mold in the tub surround. Cobwebs through out. Cock roach and some sort of green bugs. Front desk was as rude as could be. Housekeeping, if that's what it was wouldn't even replace a water glass or wipe down a surface. Food under the bed and God knows what else. This place gives Canada a bad name. I'd like to know if there are requirements to remain open. It unfortunately was the only somewhat reasonable place to stay near the city. My suggestion is to remove this place from any hotel booking site. Even one star is too much. read more

If you have a large breed dog options can be pretty limited! But they allow them here and we had a good stay. Not super cheap and average rooms but service is good, you an pay cash and I personally loved the little porch. Stood out there watching traffic and sunset with my dog :) read more

This place is not clean. There are stains on the sheets, cobwebs in the corners, spiders setting up shop behind the curtains. Two of the lights are burnt out, one electrical outlet is hanging by the wires, and the floor is patchy because parts of the laminate have come up and ripped away. The mattress is uncomfortable and while there is a sink and, mysteriously, a frying pan - there are no cups. Upsides: shower is hot, checkin staff was polite and friendly. And I've only been here half an hour but at 1am where else am I gonna go... Not recommending this spot. read more

Says not possible all the rooms are full.????Weird Right. OK,Slightly agitated.Maybe we need to talk about financial compensation,rooms not as advertised.Says nope wont happen.I'd like to talk to the manager regarding this issue.Says manager is out of the country. I set up my b/f and his best friend at the 401 inn for 2 weeks while they waited for their permenant suite to be ready to move into. I looked for sublets relentlessly for weeks and eventually found an ad on Craigslist advertising the 401 inn for an outrageously good price. I had seen the inn on boundary and granview before and it didnt look like an ultra sketchy dive, so I went for it. Turns out ownership was being transfered on the day the boys were to take up temp residency. I met Al, the new owner, who was extremely accommodating and understanding of the situation at hand. We paid cash and a deposit and they guys into the room. It was room 28, a smoking room with 2 beds, a mini fridge and a microwave. Al mentioned that with a long term stay that maid service would be offered once per week. That never occured but any time one of the guys ran out of TP or needed anything small they'd just ask the house keepers in the hallways. Al stopped me several times while I was in visiting to ask me how things were and if the guys needed anything. It was mostly a quiet stay but the guys had neighbors bang on the walls at night when the TV was on at an acceptable level. I think the new owner filled up all the rooms on one side rather than spreading them out and its possible the walls are not so thick. The guys were never diturbed by noise from other clients. The shower was great with good water pressure. One major highlight was that the guys had a cat which was welcomed. Not many affordable places accept pets so please, if you bring a pet in with you TAKE CARE OF IT and CLEAN UP after it so they'll be allowed back. Price per night is 70, longer stays means better rates and if you are looking for multi-week stays this place is a good option. Free wifi! I give this place a 4/5 not because it is a luxury hotel, but because we were treated with respect, the place was clean, privacy was respected, the front desk staff were polite and lovely, the price was perfect for what we needed and both check in and check out were smooth. I never found any other guests to be 'sketchy' or bad news in any way. From what I can see I think Al has bitten off a bit more than he can chew. I think it is possible that the previous owners simply walked out of the business and said good-luck. When i first met Al he seemed excited to take posession of this hotel, mid way through the stay it became apparent that the hotel needed more work than he predicted and by the end of our stay he seemed excited again to maintain and improve the building and its suites to hopefully turn it into a boutique style hotel with a garden courtyard. He is a great, reasonable guy and will treat you with courtesy and respect if you do the same. Al, if you read this, I am sure one of the former guests in room 28 would gladly take on a position to assist with with your garden! Fresh complimentary fruit and veg for your walk-in customers? We needed a room for one night, this inn looked like it was one of the least expensive in the area. For $140 per night, we got one of the crappiest room I have ever slept in. The carpet looked like it was at least 40 years old, stained all over the place, it was stinky like if they used to allow smoking in the room. The bathroom ceiling was in construction, with grey duck tape sealing the drywall joints and covering the screw holes. There was a kitchenette with a leaky faucet, and the bed were so soft I woke up with a back ache. And to finish it all, they were refurbishing a few of the rooms until at least 10pm, drilling and hammering. Also, at some point, we complained about the construction noise which, we were informed, was actually the noise from the plumbing from the room above us... You'd think that they'd give you a discount for staying in a place that obviously, they know needs an upgrade and with construction going on everywhere.... Definitely not recommending and not going back. There's a few AirB&B places next to this shit hole that's 1/4 the price and probably way cleaner and comfortable. read more

My boyfriend and I drove up from California to visit BC and we stayed here for 5 nights. The staff were really nice and helped us find our way around to sites we wanted to see. The price was great and we could have our dog stay too. The room had a mountain view and balcony which was the best part of the stay....beautiful sunsets. Its not really fancy or anything but it was perfect for us we would definitely stay there again....hope to go back to BC again love it there. read more

I booked a room for 7 nights in April 2014 and received a discounted rate - $40 per night (may be $50 - cannot remember the exact amount). The room included a queen bed, fridge, microwave and other standard amenities. WiFi was also included. No continental breakfast, however. The room was old and well worn and most definitely had an odor that took some getting use to. Despite opening the balcony door the odor would not dissipate. The bath tub was chipped and the overall appearance of the bathroom indicated that it had a lot of users who were not very careful. I was definitely hesitant to use it. The staff were friendly and the location was good (walking distance to Walmart, Superstore, Subway, Wendys), but if you would like to be close to Vancouver this location is terrible. You will need to take public transportation - no car rental agencies near by. It is a cheap motel so don't expect much. The most important fact about this motel: NO Bedbugs! read more
