412 is by far the best place to go for great food in Cullman. We have dined here at both lunch and dinner, and both times have been superb. Like many other yelpers, the crab dip appetizer is one of our favorites. Today we enjoyed the Ahi Poke Salad, Quail Sliders, and the daily special Soft-shell Crab Sliders. It was all delicious. I would consider myself a very critical foodie, and I have not even the smallest complaint. You won't be disappointed. I meant to write this review last weekend. I have a new restaurant I'm in love with! We were traveling home to Madison from visiting family in Birmingham and I was famished. My husband looked this place up on Yelp. It was a Saturday and perfect weather . The hostess took my cell number and said it would be about 30 mins. There is a link on the text they send you that let's you know how many are ahead of you which I love. The location is downtown in the middle of lots of trendy boutiques so you can walk around while you are waiting. This place has a busy happening vibe with people of all ages. The menu is varied with something for everyone. We were seated and everyone is so friendly here! Our waitress Carly was the best, extremely attentive and one one of those good servers that had actually tasted things on the menu and will tell you anything you want to know. I ordered the Camilla mojito which is a mojito made with some type of tea added. It was delicious and so refreshing and all I could think of is " this bartender is fantastic!" I ended up having another at some point. They had many choices of upscale beers which my husband ordered and my son just wanted his usual water with lemon. We skipped appetizers but they looked great and I have to try one next time. I ordered the duck breast with garlic mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. The sauce on the duck was a creamy flavorful concoction that added to the perfectly cooked ( not over cooked) duck. Every bite was delicious! My husband had the pork chop which was boneless as well and very tender and flavorful with the same sauce. He had the French fries and brussels as well. I tasted his pork and it was very tender and flavorful and not dry at all. My son chose the jambalaya which was a special. It was large and delicious and he shared some of my brussels since I had so many. I tasted his also and it was extremely good. The portions are very ample even though we did eat every bite. I wanted dessert so badly but was full so I ordered one to go. It was a limoncello cake with yummy lemon fluffy stuff between the layers. I enjoyed it thoroughly when I was home later. The manager seemed to be helping and making sure all the dishes came out on time. I absolutely loved that no one had masks on (except the hostess who said she hadn't gotten her vaccine yet). I could actually hear the wait staff and not have to guess at what they were saying plus Carly had a lovely smile. It was like being in a different parallel universe where the world was nice again. Even the patrons had a kind southern attitude that I miss sometimes in Madison. I can't tell you how many doors I had opened for me by gentlemen. It was a perfect evening with perfect breezy weather ( even the rain we drove through didn't touch this place). I will be returning and woke up seriously thinking about what a lovely place it was. 412 is undoubtedly the best restaurant in Cullman. Delicious food and drinks. Try the crab dip with wonderful wonton chips, the pork chops are unbelievably juicy and tasty, the steaks perfectly cooked. Try the parmesan brussel sprouts! Just a word of advice--we recently went on a Wednesday night. The hours posted online said they were open until 11. We got there at nine and were told the kitchen was already closed. They opened back up for us, and everything was wonderful as always. We were told that the kitchen closes usually at nine-thirty. read more

What happened, 412? We've been coming in 2-3 times/month, sometimes more, for almost a year. Lately, things have not been the same at 412. One of our last dine-ins was for lunch, and there were 2 tiny silverfish insects floating in my half-drank water glass. Our server was un-phased and unapologetic, and as we watched her go tell the manager about it, he didn't seem phased either. No one addressed this with me, at all, which is surprising when there's insects in either your water or ice supply. However, the biggest change is that the kitchen never has the full menu anymore, always out of multiple things. Over the last 4-5 trips, there has not been a meal where they had everything we ordered. Last night, they were out of everything we ordered aside from a burger, they did have that. No Brussels, no wonton nachos, no garlic mash, no sweet potato fries, no filet, no chocolate cake, and I forget what else. We were traveling from Nashville and found this place for lunch. What a great find. The cocktails were fresh and delicious. We let the staff choose our dishes since we had never been. We chose the Gouda Burger and Wonton Nachos, both were amazing. The flavors also were very complimentary to our drinks. Service was top notch. The footprint of the space is small but the acoustics were perfect for the space. We were able to eat, drink and chat with ease. read more

Quite possibly one of the best meals I have had in Alabama in a long time. If your a foodie, you'll love this place. You can taste the care and freshness they put in your food. I ordered a gouda burger with brussels sprouts. I sat at the bar and talk with many patrons. No one was disappointed. The bartender, Jeremy, was an excellent mixologist and very attentive to me. Moreover, he knew the food and drink specials. He provided great details and recommendations. Being on a Keto program, he was able to accommodate my dietary needs and was super friendly about making the changes. Do NOT GO HERE if you are on any type of time limit. We arrived there at 11:10 and told the waitress we had a wedding at 1pm around the corner. We were seated at 11:30 and promptly ordered two salads with meat that did it need to be cooked. We waited at our table for over a hour and NO FOOD ever came. We had to leave without food!!!!!!! We should have walked back out as soon as we walked in. The first telltale sign that something was wrong was the fact that every church in town had let out yet this place only had four customers while every other eating place in a one mile radius had a line out the door. The decor and design are great. But it stops there. The staff were woefully young, inexperienced, and untrained. The hostess was not inviting and timid- not the first impression you want to give customers as they're walking in your door. A cheerful smile and welcome goes a long way. The "brunch" menu she handed us, which is the only menu we were offered, was a cheaply printed up postcard sized piece of paper with only four items on it. Our server looked like he was 17 years old and our interaction with him led us to believe he had never been trained to wait tables. It was also one of the main reasons we walked out without ordering. He failed to inform us of the special on the board outside. We had to ask him about it- the pork chop sandwich. When we asked him how it was prepared he replied "I'm not sure" then just stood there in silence. We had to tell him to go ask someone who did know. One of the four items on the menu was a salmon Benedict. Upon ordering it, our waiter then told us that they were out of salmon and it was now crab cakes. He waited for us to order to tell us that. They had only been open a little over and hour with barely any customers which led us to believe a very lazy owner or manager decided not to print up new "menus" which would have cost them a whopping total of $1.50 in ink and notebook paper. That's when we walked out. This place is a shining example of someone who opened a restaurant not because they had true industry experience but because they felt they could because they eat out often. I don't fault any of the staff. All of the blame of today's fiasco lies squarely on an owner and manager who obviously do not have the required experience and knowledge required to run a full service restaurant. My best advice to them is to step aside and hire someone who specializes in that. Otherwise they'll be closed in less than a year unless they just enjoy throwing money away. And this is coming from someone who has over 25 years of experience doing demographic research and consulting for the bar and restaurant industry. read more

We stopped in during the strawberry festival. We had fried green tomatoes as an appetizer! So good! They are served with a topping of bacon and smoked salmon. First time in Cullman, my boyfriend and I were driving through and stopped for brunch. The food was OUTSTANDING. I had the eggs Benedict with salmon and it was cooked perfectly. You can tell the attention to food quality and flavor is top priority. Can't wait to come back when we can have a beer or cocktail as well. Turns out they can't sell alcohol on Sundays in this town but the owner assured us that the city is working on changing that! We (8) went on Taco Tuesday and the place was packed but we were able to be seated inside within minutes. They also have a patio in front. We had the whole range of offered meats and seafood. Chips and cheese dip as well as salsa. The salsa had good heat but too much for kids. The black bean salsa that they put on the tacos is mild and tasty. It took about 15 minutes for the Tacos to arrive but we were busy with conversation and chips w/cheese and salsa. Excellent service too from multiple people. The manager checked on us also. Make the drive into Cullman today, arrive at 1:25pm knowing you're serving lunch till 2:00pm as advertised (used to be all day on Saturday, btw). Full house, people exiting, but some seating visible. Attendant says "sorry, doors are locked". Fail. Recently, Wifey and I arrive for dinner, on a SATURDAY NIGHT, you're closed. Fail. And before that, I arrive one day for lunch solo, seated and order, and it's "sorry, we ran out of" linguine. Not good. Don't know if it's supply chain, labor shortage, or bad planning...but I'm not seeing issues this consistent at one place in neighboring cities. And we dine out A LOT. If so, they obviously adjust and continue to serve the customer as best they can with what they have, who they have, and as promoted online and in social media. I love your restaurant, and I'm trying to give you my business (and tips), but don't promise what you can't deliver. And don't turn people away at the door. I would've ordered something. $$$! Even though I'm from out of town and 750 miles away, I go to visit Family 2=3 times a year and I do eat out everyday. They were suppose to open at 4 pm on Friday 3-18-2022 but had several Cook's out sick, I normally would dock a star or two for waiting an hour to get food, but did not because it was darn good stuff. First we were warned in advance from our server, Ashley. But let's get down to business, the Cheese sticks were the best I ever had, PERIOD. The Crab cakes I got were the size of a Burger Kind's Whooper's Meat, big and round and very good. My Sister ordered the Filet Mignon and it was superb, I should know, I ate almost half of it, since she eats like a Bird. Finally Dessert we splurged on the silky smooth Crème Brûlée Cheescake and Chocolate cake, both excellent but the Chocolate cake was very Rich in taste and some might not like that, but I did. Service was very slow and inattentive as our waitress was more concerned with her co-workers than with the customers. The food is mediocre at best, but that's been the case every time we've been.
