All hell broke loose when tropical storm Ida swept over NYC. Hundreds of us were forced to disembark the trains at Atlantic due to the surging flood waters, and there was nary a cab in sight. Stranded, I do what I was always do when faced with setbacks: I sought out a pint. My search brought me here, to 4th Avenue pub, where I arrived soaking wet, alone, and afraid. But I had nothing to fear. This pub gave me a roof over my head, delicious beer, and friendly conversation. It is because of this place that I weathered the storm, and someday I long to return.

I'm an avid popcorn lover and it's free! Free! Free! At this pub! It's super cool and casual atmosphere, it seems small when you enter but has a lot of space sm seating on the inside as well as additional seating to the back on the outside. There's a bay seasoning that you can add to your popcorn for a bit of diff flavoring. Music is at the right level where you can carry on a conversation without shouting. And there is a wide selection of beer and varying alcoholic beverages . This is definitely a place to hang out at and it's in one of my favorite neighborhoods. Will be back.

cool watering hole, a few blocks from the atlantic avenue train station. lots of beers to choose from and they constantly change. plenty seats at the bar and tables. Free popcorn, outside seating.

I literally live around the corner, so this is my go-to bar. Here's the breakdown of the three bars on this block: 1) Cherry Tree has a great backyard but crappy beer selection. 2) Pacific Standard has a great beer selection but no backyard. 3) 4th Avenue Pub has a great beer selection AND a great backyard seating area. Another plus is that they serve Delirium Tremens and show IFC movies with no sound. Also, free popcorn and friendly bartenders. What more do you need?

The selection here is wonderful. Even more than a great selection is the awesome staff. Awesome guy tending, talking about music and a good heffenwizer. Great ambiance, great beer, worth the trip.

This pub features a great beer selection which gets periodically updated. Some beers get removed from the menu and some get added on, which can be a blessing and a curse. Personally, it was sad to see one of my faves, 'A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale, no longer being offered the last couple of times I was here. Decent in terms of prices, even with the top quality draft beers. Complementary popcorn which you can season to your liking. I have seen people order pizza from the outside. Outside seating area. Perfect for enjoying your beer while having a smoke. Despite the 'No-Smoking' sign, everyone's lighting up. Finally, a very nice, sophisticated crowd. Have yet to witness any rowdiness and I have been here on plenty of occasions.

It's just a great place to be. Not be seen ... you feel me? So unpretentious. Not kitschy. If I lived in the 'hood this would be my Cheers. I got to play here for New Year's Eve 2007. I had a total blast. A heapin list of beer to drink but for me 2 shots of patron and a glass of champagne and I was good to go. Plenty of space for me and my friends to be silly. And BONUS popcorn machine! That's just wild. I wish I had been in jeans and not in my party dress but a fun time had by all. Can't really say much else that hasn't already been said except for sorry to the girlfriend of the hot Brooklynite that I kept staring at and possibly might have flirted with, I was drunk and ask that you not hold me responsible for my actions.

One of the few bartenders here that I adore.

I've been a regular at this bar for 7 long years. I got engaged here! It was my favorite bar for quite some time. There used to be a bartender here named Lucas, who was fantastic. I'd walk in, and he'd say "Hey Lisa! Hefeweizen!" and it felt like I was on the set of Cheers, where they knew my name, and my drink. Actually, there used to be many fantastic bartenders. Not so much anymore. I'm not a fan of the bartenders working here these days. I came here for my birthday, ordered 6 beers for myself, and didn't get a single buy-back. That's not the 4th Ave. Pub I used to know. Sure the free Old Bay popcorn is great, and the crowd isn't downright obnoxious (which is saying a lot for the area), but tons of bars offer free popcorn these days, and I really miss the old bartenders, and the old feel of the bar. There is one remaining bartender that I adore, so I'll be coming back the nights he works. But aside from that, I miss the place that used to be my go-to joint, any night of the week, where 4 beers got you a buy-back, and free rounds of shots on occasion wasn't taboo.

I ordered a Ommegang Witte Wheat... nice, classic wheat. .

As someone who has come to this bar regularly to watch Knicks playoff games, I can confidently say…read moreI will never return after what happened during the NBA Finals last night. What this bar pulled was completely unacceptable. They were openly reserving seats at the bar for certain people while telling everyone else they were unavailable. There was no advertised reservation policy, no advance notice, and no opportunity offered to regular customers. Apparently, the only way to get a seat is to know the owner, know the bartenders, or be part of the inner circle. What made it even worse was that my group had been sitting at the bar, ordering food and drinks starting around 7:30 PM, only to be forced out of our seats at 7:45 PM. The reservation signs on those seats clearly stated they were reserved for 8:15 PM. We were paying customers actively spending money, yet we were removed 30 minutes before the supposed reservation time. That is absolutely egregious behavior. I've worked in sports bars and have owned sports bars in New York City. In all my years in the business, I have never heard of reserving seats directly at the bar--especially during a major sporting event. It goes against everything that makes a sports bar successful. Bar seats have always been first-come, first-served. That's Sports Bar 101. I've spent plenty of money here over the years because it was always a great place to watch big games: good atmosphere, sound on the TVs, and a fun crowd. Unfortunately, last night proved that customer loyalty means absolutely nothing. Regular patrons were treated like second-class citizens while preferred customers received special treatment. For a bar that markets itself as a neighborhood sports destination, this was incredibly disappointing, unprofessional, and frankly insulting. If you're planning to watch a major game here, don't assume you'll be treated fairly. Unless you're friends with the right people, don't expect the same experience as everyone else. There are plenty of other sports bars in Brooklyn that understand how to treat customers. After last night, I'll be spending my money there instead. I won't be back, and I certainly won't be recommending this place to anyone. Let's Go Knicks

In general, I like the mellow / peaceful vibes of outer borough NYC Irish pubs at lunchtime. McMahon's did not disappoint. Solid buffalo chicken wings & good burger. I am also post fries (I will try one or two of yours, but I don't need an order of fries for myself.), so can't comment on the fries. They also make a mean Caesar salad. The Caesar & buffalo wings are pretty much my metric for all Irish pubs. McMahon's would def be in the upper 50th percentile. There are a bunch of negative reviews for this spot on here for when they are very busy, on Barclays Center game nights and / or weekends. I feel like, if you read between the lines, it's people coming in groups when it's busy acting entitled. The staff at lunch has been nothing but courteous, w/ excellent service.
