After perusing yelp for a few minutes, I came upon this place. Having a 5 star rating, and close to home(?), I had to check it out, so my girlfriend and I decided to last night. Walking in, the atmosphere felt immediately friendly, the staff was very polite, and the view of rock climbers was a joy to behold. That being said, the food was superb!! I decided upon the farmhouse burger with garlic fries, while my girlfriend had the Italian sandwich. We also got a pepperoni pizza. She loved her sandwich, and also stole many of my garlic fries, much to her delight. My burger was scrumptious. Very flavorful, and the pizza was exceptional too. My friend saw this place on yelp over a year ago and wanted us to try for lunch. When I found out it was a cafe inside a rock climbing gym I said no way. Boy did I make a huge mistake, I finally decided to try it and it's definitely one of the best burgers in Houston area. Had the farmhouse burger and it didn't disappoint. Do you love craft burgers? This is your place. I promise you that they're the best in the area--and I've tried them all. Every component of their burgers are made in house--including the English Muffin buns. They have rotating monthly features. I'm already missing last month's jalapeño popper burger. Am excited to try this month's Hawaiian burger. Pro tips: as it won't take long to notice, this gem is located inside a rock gym. While that may seem strange, please don't let it stop you from giving this place a shot. I promise they don't make you climb to get your burger. Though if you come enough, you may want to give that a try for yourself. First time here, and the waitress/hostess was super excited for us! I had the farmhouse burger, the egg was perfect and so was the pork belly. The presentation was very nice. I paired it with their AMAZING garlic fries. Wife had the steakhouse burger with sweet potatoes waffle fries and thoroughly enjoyed it. An unexpected surprise inside of a rock climbing facility. The burgers were so juicy!

I had heard so much about this place and finally got around to trying it. I went with the Bacon Avocado Burger and my husband got the Hueco Tanks. We both added fried eggs to our burgers and my husband added Pork Belly. If you compare the bacon to the pork belly, i instantly regretted not going with the Pork Belly. It was tender and delicious!! My favorite parts about my burger were the patty itself (it had an amazing flavor), the bun and the cheese. I wasn't a fan of the lettuce that was used and the avocado spread that was in my burger looked brownish and had a flavor of not being fresh. Next time I come back i'll try a different burger and definitely get it with Pork Belly. The table next to us had pizzas and hey looked like they were fire roasted. It looked delicious. Now I know why there are no bad reviews of this place. Great lunch spot. Burgers are very good. I had the special for today which was the Chipotle Bacon Burger with fresh cut fries. The burger was brought to my table and my first impression was that it was a little under sized. I was wrong. It was perfect. The meat was seasoned perfectly, the two thick slices of bacon were cooked to perfection and the bun was great and was totally intact until I finished the burger. No burger bun melt down that leaves you with a big sloppy mess. I was very impressed with their food and the wide selection of food they have on their menu. That coupled with the added entertainment of getting to watch people climb massive rock walls while I enjoy my burger equals me coming back here a lot in my future. read more

I dance a little in my seat after every first bite! Each burger is so different, so good, incredibly rich! Hueco tanks is my favorite, if you like a little spice. Shar-warma burger 2nd, I'm a sucker for anything mediterranean. And the hefty Sweet & Smoky 3rd. These burgers get MESSY. And I hate getting my hands dirty. But when I'm here, it's WORTH IT...every time. The made from scratch english muffins are legit. You can purchase some of those bad boys to-go. *Really* good food. I had the Vietnamese Bahn Mi, and my friends had burgers. They both said that their foodThe was very good, and mine was pretty amazing. The garlic fries were worth the $1 upcharge; they were pretty amazing! I would definitely get the bahn mi again, but I'm also interested in trying their pizza. The cafe is inside the rock gym. I find it pretty entertaining to watch people on the rock wall. It wasn't overly loud in the place; the there kids weren't screaming or anything. If you generally don't like to be in a place that feels a little chaotic, this might not be the place for you. Since the cafe area is quite small and the rock wall area is just a few steps away, it's not a place to go for comfortable dining. The real reason for not giving it the full five stars, though, doesn't have to do with the small dining area or the activity in the surroundings. The other people in my group were stopping through my area for lunch. The first question one of them asked was how long it would take for food to come out. (I do not know if he specified burgers or if she asked.) Whatever she told them was far off the mark, apparently. They weren't in a big rush, but we all expected the answer to remain in the ball park. The wait wasn't *too* long, but I wasn't on the clock. They were a little upset by the expectation given. Overall, I would definitely visit this establishment again. We all agreed the food was that good. Next time, though, we'll either make sure we have ample time or we'll order ahead. read more

One of our favorite places in Spring! We literally eat here almost every other week while we climb at the gym. The burgers are amazing - they make the buns fresh in house and the hamburger patties are so juicy and flavorful! If I'm feeling "healthy" I'll get a burger with all the toppings as a salad bowl. My favorite thing to get that is not a burger is the PB&J Tacos: 3 - generous slices of Pork Belly wrapped in a warm tortillas with lettuce, tomatoes, fresh jalapenos, and a jalapeno ranch sauce. Setting is fun and different inside the rock climbing gym, the people are friendly, and the food is amazing (especially after a good workout!) read more

Stopped by 5 Ate Cafe today for lunch. Was sad to learn that Chef Charlie no longer owned and ran the cafe, but apparently still offers his assistance from time-to-time. Both my wife and I had the Special of the day which was the Avocado Butter Bacon Burger, and it was delicious (which, I do not ever recall having anything at 5 Ate that was not delicious)! The burger came with avocado butter (like a smoother guacamole spread, not as chunky or with as many ingredients), 2 slices of crispy, heavenly bacon, a beef or turkey (we had the beef) patty, lettuce & tomato, on a housemade english muffin, with a side of crisp, fresh out of the fryer, fries! This place is very cool. I travel a ton and visit many different establishments. The reviews online are consistent, good food, great burgers. No adult beverages, but the food is worth the trip. And if you want to burn off that burger or pizza, you can do one of the many rock climbing walls. For dinner last night we decided to eat at a place that we have never heard of. It was hard at first locating this place as we did not know it was inside a rock climbing business. The food was great. I got the farmhouse burger which had an egg and pork belly slapped on a juicy cheese burger. These burgers are homemade right in their kitchen. Even the buns are different as they are english muffins but better than store bought. Way Better! The only compliant we would have would be that the napkins were too small for our meals. haha. What a change from drab dreary faces we have to deal w/in public. We ordered the farmhouse burger w/o bun. They put in on mixed green lettuce-note it's the GOOD lettuce not some iceberg crap. This tasty little burger joint is located inside the inSPIRE gym! I have to say this is the first gym I've seen - climbing or otherwise - that has provided an actual GOOD food option, as opposed to just drinks/smoothies or cold sandwiches. Plus they definitely benefit from the fact that you can work up an appetite all while trying to resist the delicious smells floating over from this little shop. I had the shar-warma turkey burger because it just sounded so different. It was definitely very good but VERY messy. My experience was somewhat dampened by my desperate struggle to keep toppings remotely close to the bun. The burger was just so saucy that the sauce got everywhere. The folks at 5.Ate might want to consider a redistribution of the sauce to both sides of the bun, or maybe just cutting back on the sauce because most of it ended up in a puddle beneath the burger anyway. My climbing companion had the sweet n' smoky burger which was the special for the day. I got to try a bite and I have to say it beat the pants off my own delicious burger. I want to come back to try the reuben burger! The service was friendly and the burger came out VERY quickly but was clearly hot and fresh. Definitely A++ on the service front. read more

I thought Yelpers were lying. I mean I've been steered wrong before. But let me tell you....there are no lies here lol. The burgers - which are the only thing I've tried - are the truth. I've only had the classic burger because I wanted to try their basic burger before I experiment with the others. I felt like a crazy person walking into the spot with no intention to go rock-climbing but hey when you're hungry you just gotta go for it. I was impressed with the young guy who works the counter...he was so helpful and nice! He told me their best sellers and what he liked which I appreciated. When I first went some other patrons ordered some pizza which also looked really good. I had burgers and fries, and that English muffin bun with the sauce.... . I was pleased. Last night I went again and ordered the same thing except instead of fries I ordered a side salad. I also ordered my mom a burger with fries. I wanted to see if my first experience was a fluke. It wasn't. My mom and I were both pleased. The burgers are good. The side salad had a simple olive oil based vinegarette which was good (maybe a lil too much olive oil). But this is now my burger place. I'll also be going back to try other things on their menu. And maybe one of these days I'll even go rock climbing before I eat lol. read more

First off, the cafe is INSIDE the rock climbing gym, and its completely open to the public. Secondly, don't let it being in a "gym" fool you - the food is amazing- ALL of it. My wife and I spent some time in Italy last year and ate a lot of Italian pizza, and trust me, save the plane ticket because eating pizza at 5.ate is JUST like eating Pizza in Naples, Italy. We've also had the coffee (lattes, etc.) lemonade, hamburgers, pork belly sandwiches, flatbread and hummus with pesto, superfood smoothies, and more. It's all been 10/10. I also really appreciate the VEGAN options - from the best vegan pesto, to soy and almond milk options for coffee, to vegan cheese on the pizzas. The owner Charlie is not only a food wizard, but also super friendly. I've found I get the best results if I ask for his recommendations, as he often runs specials. read more

I ordered the Pavo Pavo. DELICIOUS! The tzatziki and garlic chili sauce.. to die for! "Lip-smackin', where's my napkin" great food. Oh! And the MUFFIN. Housemade ENGLISH MUFFIN. Soft, fresh. Like it just came out of the oven. Wow.. In addition, I also ordered the Gorgonzola Fries. Fries good, gorganzola..sparse. Needed seasoning and MORE gorgonzola cheese. PLEASE. The pizza here is a must-order, with or without the cheese, everything on it is fresh tasting and full of flavor. Chef Charlie's pizza is arguably the best outside of Midtown Houston. I've also tried the Green Chile burger with their house-made Sourdough English muffin and I loved it, it had great seasoning and spice; it was a good grade of ground meat, and you can tell the quality of good meat! Also, if you like, just go solo to the dessert--Italian donuts (Zeppole); the creation is not made until it's ordered and topped with powdered sugar. We came here based solely on Yelp reviews. We're from Mass where craft burger places are a thing right now, but sadly they mostly suck. The burgers here are legit. This guy knows what he's doing! Sincere deliciousness that made us all swoon! Tables are smaller - mostly for parties of four or less. They have one larger table that seats six, and some sweet picnic tables out by the ropes course. We've been to the Houston area a couple of times to visit family, and 5 Ate is the only place that we've made sure to visit each time. It's located inside of a climbing gym, so expectations weren't too high the first time. But that turned out to be 100% wrong. We've only had burgers and fries, but that's because they're so great we can't stray away. We've tried a variety of burgers and have determined that you can't go wrong with anything you choose. And the fries are your typical fry, but they taste much better than most. I don't know if it's the oil they use, or seasoning, but they're great! We've actually only ever gone to eat, so we feel like slobs watching people rock climb, but for the excellent food I'll do it every time! read more
