Visiting from Texas and came across this place, I decided to order the empire on a cheddar bagel with jalapeño cream cheese because a man on yelp posted a picture of his bagel and it looked delicious and a iced chia latte. And let me tell you it is, I decided to get it to go to eat in my hotel room and it's nice, yummy and warm!! Thank you to the girls working there, they were so nice and inviting!! Next day update I decided to go again before I leave and order a lunch item, let me tell you!! This pastrami on a cheddar bagel with mayo no mustard, add onion and Sriracha bacon cream cheese is amazing!! Truly unforgettable! This is our classic hangover food on the weekends. I do recommend going early because it gets pretty busy. The shop itself is extremely well decorated on the inside but is very cramped to actually eat in. Luckily the line always moves fast and it doesn't take long to eat if you want to sit down for a bit. I always get the egg and cheese with a little sriracha bacon cream cheese on an asiago bagel (or cheddar if they are out). They recently switched up their eggs so the sandwiches hold together better. I do recommend asking for light cream cheese all the time because it can definitely overpower the sandwich (unless you love cream cheese ofc). I haven't had their lunch items but would definitely go try sometime. I also am not a huge fan of their coffee but they do have fresh squeezed OJ which is awesome if you like OJ! read more

Absolutely the best bagels we have had in Iowa. They were so quick to get our order out, and despite the limited seating, someone had left just a few minutes after we ordered. It was fun to enjoy our brunch there on a busy Saturday. We will be returning!! read more

Great food, I would recommend pre ordering instead of walking in as it does take them a longer than usual time to prepare so if ur in a rush be aware of that. Saw a couple working parents with kids here. Definitely family friendly. Got the plain bagel with vegan spinach artichoke cream cheese. Kid got a blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese. Spent $9.xx total. They do not have a point or rewards system. Or they didn't feel like offering me one. Atmosphere was busy. Not too loud. Two TVs in the background. The decor is trendy and attracts the eye. The menu looks like a lot to look at but the screens are simple. Takes a min to look at. They offer a big selection of sandwiches. I'm looking forward to trying one. Love that they offer vegan cream cheese and the owner was quick to let me know all but two bagels are vegan. WIN!!! Customer service is good. I was invited to breakfast by a friend, and my stipulation was somewhere with good coffee. Neither of us had been here, so we decided to give it a shot. The brew coffee here is fantastic, and I thoroughly enjoyed my cup. I ordered a French toast bagel with mocha cream cheese to go with the coffee. It was a very pleasant breakfast that warrants a return trip. The store itself is kind of cramped, but there is outdoor seating which was nice on this pleasant morning. The staff was very friendly, and the service was efficent. I ordered bagels, donuts, and scones for a breakfast event I was sponsoring in Des Moines. Tony was helpful during the process and made great suggestions. Tony offered to come set up for the event and clean up after. The bagels were AMAZING. The bagels were crips on the outside and chewy on the inside- creating the absolute perfect bagel taste. The cream cheese is all homemade and bold with flavor. The scones were unlike any other scones I have ever had. They tasted like a blueberry muffin! The donuts were perfectly glazed. A delicious local bagel shop in a small strip mall in Des Moines! We got breakfast sandwiches and two coffees. They have a plethora of bagels and cream cheese options from jalapeño cream cheese to tofu cream cheese! I was blown away with the selection of their cream cheese, but also they coffee flavors and syrups! I got the chocolate chip cookie dough ice coffee with soy milk. I wish I would have added an extra pump of cookie dough syrup, but it was still good. I got my fiance a chai tea latte with soy milk and he was in heaven! My fiance got the breakfast wrap with a spinach wrap which he loved that they had that option. I got one of their signature breakfast sandwiches and it was one of the best I've had in a very, very, very long time. Bagels-good, sandwiches-good, BUT, twice I have been in at about 1-1:30pm (empty-post rush), I stood there, stood there, stood there, they saw me, but no smile, "hi" or help. I LEFT! What on earth???? TWICE! The other two times, my husband and I asked for toasted bagel. TWICE they did not toast - an untoasted bagel is just wrong for breakfast. We ate them because it was to go. See pics. The other time I went in was good, I always get the Lox Deluxe, mmmm. As you can tell, I WANT to love this place, I love bagels, but I don't. I tried. I really tried. PER THE RESPONSE FROM 5 BOROUGH: "For toasted bagels--we do toast all of our bagel sandwiches, although, for that "extra" slightly dark toast, we recommend telling the register to put it through twice." - Okay, you should have not said this. You DO NOT, I've never had a sandwich that was toasted there. AND, I shouldn't HAVE to ask for it to go thru TWICE. Toasted, means toasted, not warmed up. Service was slow, order was wrong. Employee was obviously upset when I was annoyed. Waited 20 minutes for 2 dozen bagels to be sliced in half, (they only sliced half of them). The manager said it was my own fault, and I got what I deserved, because they thought I was rude and their negative behavior was appropriate and justified. She also scolds people when they leave a bad review. She tells them they shouldn't say negative things on the review, even if is accurate. Hands down the best place to get a bagel in the Des Moines area. Do be warned that this is a VERY busy place, especially on weekend! If you want to avoid the lines I would HIGHLY recommend ordering on their website if you have a certain time in mind for picking up a bagel. The bagels, cream cheese, and sandwiches are great. It is a very small space so if I typically take my bagel to-go or decide to eat it on their outdoor patio! The French Toast, Blueberry, and Pepper Jack bagels are my absolute favorites. Wow ... what do you say except wow? Let's start with the bagels. There are too many places around that sell round bread with a hole in the middle and call it a bagel. There are a couple of decent bagel chains. This is the real thing. Soft and thick on the inside, a little bit of snap to the outside. Perfect New York style bagels. They even offer a couple of gluten free options. The cream cheese is made in house, and again ... wow. I had the scallion and the cucumber dill, both of which were incredible. There is a heaviness, a depth to it that you just don't get with mass marketed stuff. I'm looking forward to trying some of their sandwiches next time. It's so hard to find bagels that have just the right balance of crunch and chew, but these folks have gotten it right. They are generous with the cream cheese and offer a good 8-10 different flavors, including a tasty cucumber dill (which is terrific on a garlic bagel!). The coffee is good too. Friendly service and pretty quick, although very few were wearing masks (post-Thanksgiving, new variant just appearing). That may just be Iowa. read more

The Everything bagel was soft and chewy and the green onion cream cheese was so good! I would be embarrassed but also very proud to admit to you the amount of times I've woken up in the morning and thought "I am definitely driving from Ames to Clive for a bagel this morning." I love it. My go-to orders is the bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwich or a plain bagel with the mocha chip cream cheese. It feels like a bagel shop that shouldn't be in Iowa because it's uh amazing. Their coffee has been pretty hit or miss for me though. Each day is different. They have some fun latte flavors if you are into branching out (not me) but my iced vanilla oat latte is on the really good side more often than not. I have seen their staff at high stress on a busy morning during high safety protocols and relaxed on a weekday morning - always very nice to me! Last time I went they were especially nice because the girl working was from Wisco so she understood the midwestern "bay-gel" that I was so embarrassed to say. Fun time. Will be back. My lovely wife brought me home a poppy seed bagel with jalapeno cream cheese on the side. Stuck it in the toaster oven when she got home and loaded it with the "jalapeno" cream cheese. The bagels are fantastic! It's sweet, soft, but chewy, and they toast the sandwich bagels which brings out more of the yeasty taste. I got the lox deluxe, the Bronx, a freshly squeezed OJ, and an iced chai lea latte. They packed the bagel sandwich full of meat and cheese, the OJ was sweet, refreshing, and has some pulp but not enough to give it any texture other than smooth. The chai lea latte was okay. It tasted a little watered down. Overall, the environment is cute and great for little social meetings, however it gets busy and loud. Would definitely come here again! read more
