While I really do not like the actual seats (they are hard and uncomfortable) that is my ONLY complaint. The atmosphere is always inviting and nice. Peaceful. Not too loud at all. Definitely a decent menu with options it not overwhelming. Enjoyed a coffee and a cranberry mimosa (who knew such a thing existed) it's the best! And that omelet was delicious. I chose this place specifically for their avocado toast, and it did not disappoint. First, it was huge. Then it was unbelievably delicious and beautiful. All of the ingredients shined, from the avocado (of course) to the corn salsa, feta cheese, cucumber and pickled onions. Each added its own distinct flavor and texture but didn't overwhelm the whole. Our first time here for lunch yesterday. Looking to try something different than our usual places. The restaurant is not very big but has a great, relaxed vibe. I had the you pick two with half of a turkey bacon club sandwich on sourdough with the Mediterranean bowl as my side. My hubby had the St. Kilda burger with a side salad. And my teen had the veggie tacos with added grilled chicken. Everyone loved their meals. My teen devoured his. He said the tacos were well filled and the ingredients tasted fresh. Very relieved that the new location still has the same menu and good coffee. We pass through a few times a year, and always stop here for brunch on our way from Illinois to Colorado. Love the Australian ice coffee for dessert. Reminds me of FUIC. The new location has better parking and is nice and bright. I wish we came here more often so that I could try more of the menu, but I can't go past the avocado toast with a poached egg. read more

Stopped by early afternoon today for a small breakfast/Lunch and coffee with friends. Great coffee, Latte, and tea options along with some healthy lighter side breakfast and lunch options. At our table we tried the tortilla soup (added chicken), the chicken Schwarma bowl, and breakfast tacos. I loved my chicken schwarma, was hesitant due to the "beet hummus" but I loved every bite. Really fresh pita slices helped make this bowl more enjoyable. We loved this location! Very awesome menu items and a great lunchy-brunchy atmosphere! Again, St Kilda never disappoints me. This location has plenty of light and is very sleek. We had a group and we're seated right for lunch on a Sunday. The wine is slightly more expensive here compared to valley junction but they still have a great selection. I opted for the spritz which was very light and refreshing. The chili egg toast was to die for. I seriously think it's been my favorite meal there. The flavors were perfect and I am a huge fan of fresh sourdough. We also got the salad and which was on their restaurant week menu. It was super light and tasty. The candied jalapeños were very spicy but I love a little kick. Can't wait to go back! read more

Ready for a fancy brunch? This is the spot. Cheddar biscuits, breakfast options, fish tacos, fancy salads, shawarma bowls! So many amazing options. I will be back frequently. You eat with your eyes first and the plates are gorgeous. My fish tacos were perfectly fried, a healthy portion of crisp slaw and creamy aioli topped it. We arrived without a reservation and were able to immediately sit at the bar where we were warmly greeted. The food was excellent as was the service. Our bartender gave us a sample of her made-fresh special Bloody Mary mix to insure we liked it before ordering. Just enough spice but she was happy to add more to taste. Classy! The breakfast sandwich was delicious especially the slightly spicy bacon jam. I loaded up on Aussie pies at PieMates next door and they held them in the freezer until we finished brunch. Can't wait to try the CRIKEY Traditional meat pie! I can highly recommend the coffee, especially the Flat White. It would stand among any Aussie cafe competition. St. Kilda aspires to represent a slice of the Melbourne Australian food scene here in Des Moines. The result is delicious, and we love that vegetarians are not second class citizens here. We were quite happy when they announced the Clive location as it's much closer to where we live. Regardless of the location, St.Kilda is where we bring friends, family, and visitors. Their food is a welcome break from your typical Iowa "meat & potatoes" fare, although we think they offer something to delight all palates. St. Kilda is often experimenting with their menu and the result is usually great. We're vegetarians, and our current favorite items at the Clive location include: Kathi Potato Wrap (Indian inspired but not too spicy) Ricotta Hotcake Cheddar Chive Biscuit Sandwich without bacon Chili Poached Eggs Breakfast Tacos (sub avocado for chorizo) ...and of course, the Avocado Toast. The salads are also good, and their Coffee is great in any format. Especially, the oatmilk latte and the Australian Iced Coffee (similar to an Affogato). My only wish is that they offered reservations or Yelp check-in as it sucks not having reliable seating when you're in a rush or you have a group with you. 5 stars, nonetheless! read more

The food looked and tasted good but I do wish I had ordered something different which is 100% on me. I had the Crab Cake Benedict and my husband ordered the Corn Fritters. His was absolutely delicious. My cappuccino was more on the bitter side. Presentation was good as I expected but the atmosphere was not very good for a date. I went to St. Kildas to meet a friend for lunch. We didn't make a reservation and it was pretty packed around 1pm on a Saturday. There was a 10-15 minute wait for tables, so we decided to sit at the bar. We both ordered the avocado toast, and it was presented beautifully! The sauce has a little bit of heat to it, which really compliments the rest of the dish. Their drink menu is also fantastic, so I would recommend taking a look at it. We have eaten here a number of times. Most of the time the food is fresh and cooked well. This last time we ordered the Salmon on a bed of apple slaw and the strawberry salad with grilled chicken via the online app. We knew we didn't have time to dine in based on previous experiences, plan at least an hour and a half if there is more then two in your party. It usually takes 10-20 minutes for them to take your order once seated and another 30-40 min. The restaurant is a bit noisy with lots of natural light. To get your food. This time the salmon meal was cooked perfectly, the strawberry chicken salad was not. The chicken was charcoal black burnt and not edible and the strawberries were mushy. The fruit had clearly bean cut up a few days earlier and was not fresh. If we had dined in the salad would have been sent back. Definitely not worth $17. Wished I had taken a picture of the salad. It will be a long time before we try this location again. read more
