As a young, female skateboarder I always looked forward to trips to Berkeley so I could stop by 510. I was so impressed with their selection of products and the people who worked there were always friendly and knowledgeable. It was also encouraging to see Dandy--one of the owners of the store and a female skater--out at local skate spots. When I grew older and moved to Oakland, 510 became my local skateshop. Aside from no longer carrying women's apparel, not much has changed. -CALLING ALL HYPEBEASTS- i walked in looking for a reasonably priced fresh pair of something with vulc and gum - 'perhaps some mj2's' i thought to myself.. turns out that 510 is the place to be for street wear - its prob like a 4 or 5 in that respect - but 510 as a skate shop is pretty meh. if you're looking for skate shoes you can choose between a few lakai's, es's, emerica's, and a metric fuck ton of nike's. i'm about 10 min away from 510 but will be hitting up active for shoes from now on. (this review is just for the section with product though - their actual skate shop is a 5 for sure - shop decks for hella cheap!) read more

A real clean & quaint store that I'd always stop by at during breaks when I used to work on Telegraph. They're known mostly as the store that has the Nike SB account, and I've copped some pairs without any problem at MSRP prices. The staff is real chill and by no means overbearing, which I totally dig. A nod and "let me know if you need anything" is all that's required by me, and that's what they give. read more

Yes, I spend all my money on food and shoes. I am one of those people that will sleep or waaait in long lines for shoes. Well, I usually send my bf in this place while I wait in the car or get the hot cocoa at peets but YES I am one of those crazy people. This little spot gets big shoes (big as in popular shoes you can't find anywhere else). When I am lucky, they have a size 6.5 in boys for me.. they usually have 1 or 2 size 6.5s for the guys that buy shoes for their gfs, there are a couple regulars *ahem* hehe. This place only loses a star because they dont always have a 6.5 for me but I still love this place! read more

It's a local skate shop, so I'll take it easy. The workers there are pretty chill, hook me up with a good price. The only downside is that they don't have a large selection of boards. I came in looking for some krooked boards and there was only 1 available. It really bummed me out but it's cool. So this is directed at the shoe/clothing store. I bought my first pair of I-paths here. At 80+$ they were no steal. I payed half that for my second pair online. they do have the rent to pay though. I like their shop shirts, some are very cool. I like the western style 510 shirt I bought there. Realy nice people though, they get big props for that. The other good thing is they are at the end of the shopping area on Telegraph. You can drive over from ashby and not even have to get into Telegraph insanity. I brought my son to 510 for his first skateboard and had the best experience! The shop is clean, well organized, and esthetically pleasing. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. The atmosphere is fun- took me back to my youth hanging out in bike shops with my friends. The young man who helped us asked my son a bunch of questions about what kind of skating he would be doing and then gave us advice about the kind of set up he should have. There were teenagers in the shop working on their boards with advice and help from the staff. I was also really impressed with the way that the staff sort of served as mentors to the teenagers. At one point an apparent foe of one of the teenagers was out front of the shop and one of the staff told the teenager good job for not getting involved. All in all, I would highly recommend 510! My son is super happy with his sweet board and we will definitely be back! read more

Great experience today bringing my 5 year old in for his first skateboard. Neither of us know much about it but the guy behind the counter was incredibly helpful, walked us through the pieces we needed for the package, let my son pick out the individual components (but looking to me when something he chose was a few dollars more). Let my son watch him build the board, explained everything he was doing, and even let him start some of the parts before he finished them/tested them. My son left incredibly happy, I don't feel like I got ripped off (prices were what I expected after my online research), and witnessed a old school style retail service. read more

My 9yo son was ready for a 'real' skateboard so we hit up 510. There is no way the experience could have gone any better! The team at the shop was beyond helpful explaining boards, sizes, wheels, etc. Teddy probably spent an hour with my son making recommendations, explaining different points of view and helping make the final selections. Once everything was picked out, Teddy put the board together, with my son watching, explaining every step so my son could try to do it next time. It was really a great experience. 510 is simply the best skateboarding store. No doubt about it. The staff are helpful and know what they are doing. The shop decks are sweet, and don't leave a hole in your wallet. Honestly, everything they sell is good quality, and for the most part pretty local. The staff all have a love for skateboarding, and not just for getting money. When I just started skateboarding, I came in to buy new trucks, and they told me I shouldn't, because mine were not yet at their peak of performance. They actually want you to get better. so after checking pretty much every skate shop in san francisco and once again not finding any shoes in my size, i headed out to the east bay. i had a good feeling about this shop, and i wasn't disappointed. they had the exact shoes i wanted in my size and even had different colors available. (vans half cabs, to be exact.) i was thrilled. plus the guys working we're very helpful and nice and even recommended good places to eat, etc. in the area since i'm not from berkeley. and i called them once a long time ago and whoever answered was really nice too about recommending a flat rail that i asked about. i like 510. read more

This place is sick! They have two stores for two different needs.They always have some fresh soft goods to peruse through and all the skate hard ware to stay sprakin around the town. Even though they are the only game in town, they still take REALLY good care of their customers. I hadn't purchased a skate board since the last millennium, but the store manager Noah took the time to bring me up to speed and help me figure out what would be best for my son. so, 510 the original is obviously the best place in the Bay to get your skate and all around cool gear/clothes, but i was super psyched to find their new addition... 510 Lo, down on 40th street. The shop is super beautifully designed, (I heard the owner did the design himself), and they have awesome goods! it's like the best of all of the stores and for those of us who don't go to telegraph often, it's really convenient. There's a record store and a bike store next to 510 Lo too....it's a cool mini enclave that's creeping into the temescal neighborhood. i'm definitely going back! read more

Went in today with my head set on a longboard, the clerk dropped some knowledge on me and I ended up leaving with a bad ass little frankenboard that cruises better than any longboard ive ever had and handles like a beast. This thing fricking sails. Big up ya self 510!!! read more
