The most ridiculous thing happened here when I was getting tattooed next door at Industrial (which I love, btw). Someone threw a heart into 510. No joke. A HEART. An animal heart, presumably. I'm sorry, who does that? One of the tattoo artists went next door and took pictures and came back to show me. It was just thrown in and was on their floor. I won't lie, it was kind of awesome. I wish I could give a 0 star review just based off of horrible customer service. I went in just looking to get some new bearings and the snobby workers were SO RUDE when I asked questions. I asked about how to take the shields off of the bearings I was about to purchase and the worker legit laughed at me then said "I don't clean my bearings". You know, I hate to downgrade but skateboarding is a great thing. It can really change people's lives. Therefore it's a crime to inflate yelp reviews and potentially turn away the innocent. a) I saw that someone wrote that this was a great place for girls trying to get into skateboarding. well it really isn't. the women that hang around here are pretty hostile to any single woman who isn't on the arm of some guy, and they usually have no idea about anything involving skateboarding. Unless you're dating someone in the shop, I'd avoid going here if i were a girl or it might kill your love of skateboarding (and if you are dating that person... do you like skateboarding less than a guy? choose skateboarding!) inexperienced women mightl think that all skaters are like this place. I recommend checking out dlx sf instead because one guy especially knows his shit and will not destroy your love of skateboarding. you don't need to have anyone hold your hand, but you definitely need a place where people aren't going to make you want to never skate again and this could totally happen at a place like this if you haven't been exposed to the world. I've also heard purple skunk being recommended so i'd try that out too! I haven't been there that much but one of the girls who works there is part of Skate like a girl so it must be awesome. b) I got some great dvds here so that's why this gets 2 stars instead of one. Stay Gold, ah yeah! and it was a great place to get local skateboarding DVDs and eye my next purchase when I'm not broke, the metro pleasant hill skateshop one that has someone's dad commenting on it in a funny way. c) people that come in here have so much attitude and i've never felt a love of skateboarding emitting from anyone who worked here. instead it felt all about status and there was never any willingness to really talk about the boards in a meaningful way except stuff I would find googling the internet. they are also not into giving advice on how to skateboard as well. I know that I'm not buying stuff every time i'm in there but such an unwillingness to even talk about the basics will really turn off cool people. and by cool i mean cool for real, not the cool where you wear cool clothes and act as if you were tough but aren't. d) this gets two stars because the facebook postings are cool .support the community! whoever is doing the facebook stuff is holding down their fort. maybe they're the bullied guy hidden away in a corner because i've never met anyone who gave off that vibe of supporting the community... but that person exists! and they're updating the facebook page! keep up the good work! you rule! read more

I am in a bad mood after visiting this store for several days already Manager there was horrible that day. Here what happened. My son is proficient skateboarder so his boards are braking once a month usually. I was ready to buy a board but asked for the discount to be encouraged to come to this store again.. Manager looked at me like I am his enemy. He said that it is rude to ask for the discount in his store. He said that he had a harsh time with his parents when they were upset to spend so much money on the skateboards. He called me rurde and almost burned me with his angry sight. I've turned around and left the store. My son loves this little skate shop. More for their clothes than boards though. His style and favorites change a lot. 510 usually has the current biggest thing in boards and apparel. On more than a few occasions my son has found the very latest style of a new skate shoe. Most recently it was a style of Adidas shoe. They also carry Pink Dolphin which is still mainly sold online or at Odd Future shows. Unfortunately they rarely have sales and not very good discounts. read more

Many months ago, we saw a UPS truck roll by 510 Skate from across the street on a weekday afternoon. My roommate, Pocket Kelbs, immediately urged me to go check out the new shipment. "But dude," I reasoned, "It's all the way on the other side. What if you crease your Tiffany's?" "It's a gamble I'm willing to take." And with that, his turquoise feet (with a silver swoosh) dashed across to 510 Skate. If there's any questions as to why my roommate's name is Pocket Kelbs, it's because he has an affinity for playing cards and a sense to know a good gamble. And so the Gods of Poker blessed him with a pair of Pocket Rockets that day. The UPS Truck was holding a re-up of MF Dooms. For $150, Pocket Kelbs and I each scored a pair of the black box heat. High top, lace locked, and the icy sole for the hypebeast's soul. If they had Instagram back in the day, we would've rocked the feed. It was a NikeSB arbitrage. We eventually each flipped the Dooms for a happy profit :) I guess that's why we like 510 so much. Fond memories aside, this is also a store with nice things and nice people. The trendy brands of the mid-2000 era were racked side to side. Wesc, Stussy, and Obey were all in attendance. The guys who worked there didn't mind that we called once in a while to see if any new NikeSB rolled in, (this was before Twitter) and that's how we scored the Skate Or Dies. The inventory is a little pricey. Expect around $30 for tees, $90 for jeans, and $110 for shoes. Hey, a hypebeast is an expensive animal. Today, Pocket Kelbs has enough heat to survive a Chi-town winter. Although NikeSB has given way back to Retro Jordan's and that we rarely shop at 510 anymore, we can both reflect back to a time when NikeSB ruled the shoes forum and the store was our go-to shoe mine. Recently bought a complete board here and had great experience. The staff was helpful and friendly. They repaired my old board and included a $10 discount for buying a complete board, which is nice. The shop is pleasantly laid out and they were playing Frank Sinatra on the stereo (In a skate shop?!!!! How awesome is that?). The selection of equipment is a little less than I expected (a lot of the space is devoted to clothes and shoes - the only reason I cannot give 5 stars) but what they do have is quite nice. If you need a skateboard and you're in the East Bay it's worth a look. read more

The best skate shop in the east bay. The selection is great, all high quality items, and tons of choices. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They know their customers by name and remember what they like/are typically shopping for. They put the trucks on my board for me even though I didn't buy it there too! Great customer service! Whenever they don't have what I'm looking for (rarely) they offer to order it or point me in the direction of another store that might. The physical store looks great too, always clean, cool art, good music. I love going in to the shop. Great place. My only qualms is I'd like to see some more girl sized shoes. They have a really good selection of apparel and skateboards and their staff is super helpful. 510 skateboarding because they comes out with updated 510 apparel every couple months (hats, shirts, pins and decals) and they have skateboards from all over the globe. This place is skater-owned. Usually I would support a shop for that reason alone. But 510 is one of the best skate shops around. In my unprofessional opinion, it's on the level with DLX (though smaller and more streamlined inventory), and way better than Mission (although I do like that place, I'm just not down with the bike messenger vibe). Their boutique look is clean and artistically minimalist. Yet the atmosphere is inviting for one and all, whether you're young, old, male, female, hesh or fresh. The staff is friendly, full of knowledge, and down to help you find what you need no matter how picky you are, or how long you take to decide. They recently consolidated the hard goods shop with the shoes and clothes. I don't think they've suffered for it. Expect the latest graphics, sizes and shapes from all the skater-operated board companies: Girl, Chocolate, Baker, Deathwish, Real, Krooked, Anti-Hero, Organika and more. I have not noticed the mall favorites, like Santa Cruz, Element, etc. If that's what you want, maybe try Destination 1440. As far as trucks, wheels, bearings and accessories, they've got more variety than you can shake a stick at. They also carry Paradox griptape, a new-fangled crowd favorite that's not widely available. Clothes and hats: HUF, Nike SB, Fourstar, and various others. Shoes: Best variety of skate shoes, hands down, including Nike SB, Vans, Lakai, Emerica, Cons and Adidas. They stock some hard-to-find colorways and collabos, and the premium Nike SB stuff I don't see anywhere else. If you've got small feet, you will probably find outstanding sale shoes. Gripes: If you drive, parking will probably be a hassle. And to be fair, their prices are often kind of high, which bums me out. However, these prices are totally in line with the current market. If you can't stomach them, go to the thrift shop. Or make yourself feel better about it by watching their cast of shop riders shred in the team videos. Remember that your purchases are contributing to the progression of deserving young skateboarders. Overall, this is a true "core" skate shop serving up the goods without any BS. You will not be disappointed. read more

I truly do love 510 Skateboarding, but you have to REALLY check their site all the time if you want to jump on new releases. I don't browse NikeTalk like that anymore, and I wish I could walk in once or twice and find the DSC tee I want. I went in the other day, and I saw some really nice Hundreds stuff they were stocking, but I was flat broke, so Lady Luck kinda spit on my face, though I knew I was going to get all grabby before I went inside. Pricey, so coming in looking for "just a t-shirt" will leave your wallet slightly more empty than expected. Overall, badass just like most of the Men's Apparel/Shoe Stores on this stretch of Tele. read more

Is this place the Huf of Berkeley? The section with the skate decks was cool, mellow, and the guy who worked there actually said whats up and asked if my friend and I needed help. Over at the "street wear/ shoe" side, the guys there just didnt care. They dont give you eye contact, they talk amongst themselves, and they seem to be really into themselves more than selling stuff. They had some key brands that most shops do but really just plain stuff you can get from any street wear shop. Hundreds Ts... Nike SB... Vans... I mean key accounts Im sure but not much variety. I had always thought this skate shop to be a bit more core and rider driven, but its more hype and image driven... To be fair, most shops are like that now. I cant hate but the lack of customer service was just not that smart of an idea since there are so many shoppers out there who are willing to spend money these days... read more

Ah, the famous 510 Skateboarding from The Pack's song "Vans." Picked up my first skateboard from 510. Of course, I had no idea what I wanted, but the staff at the skate shop was really helpful. They knew what they were talking about and what would work for me. Very good experience there. Of course, 510 is now about the streetwear. For kicks, this is the place to go to get your Nike SB fix. You can also get some nice hoodies, tees, etc. from brands such as Spitfire and Nike SB to Diamond Supply Co. Pick up a 510 shirt and represent while you're at it. Staff on this side is laid back. Local, independently owned shop with helpful workers and great skateboards. The owners Dandy and Jerry are both locals who support public schools and the community. I came in recently with my teen son who has become very interested in skating. Several of his friends have come to this store and they (and their moms) were all happy with the service and purchases. The people working behind the counter were knowledgeable and answered my son's questions throughly before helping him put together a whole new set. He is ecstatic about his new skateboard.. Yeah, you can get a cheap-o skateboard at a chain store, but after it quickly falls apart , this is the place to go for quality. Cool shop and pretty good selection, but one of the attendants was very rude to my two (female) friends. We came in looking for a deck for one of my friends because the deck she had was breaking. We were looking through decks having a grand old time when one of the shop employees came over to us and asked us if we were "Actually looking at decks," if we "Actually, like, skated" and if we had "Ever actually ridden one of these things." Beyond it being pretty sexist, it was patronizing and rude. I mean I know that we're teenage girls but come on. I'm sure that the other attendants are nice and there was some great stuff in the shop, but I probably won't be going back here. read more

Both the staff and the products at 510 are top notch. Their sales team is quick and answers any and all questions. Some might find the idea of getting shoes online to be more appealing but there's nothing quite like trying on shoes in person. They have a great selection of skate shoes and carry some smaller sizes (which is awesome because I am a girl). I would recommend stopping by the shop before you give into the Internet, not to mention you'd be supporting a small local business. If I could give them more than five stars I would. read more

I'm an old skateboarder....embarrassingly old. Yet the staff here always treats me with respect, they answer questions about board sizes, wheelbases, and product in general. And to that woman below asking for a discount because her son breaks his boards? Seriously? Go to Zumiez in the mall. You probably embarrassed the hell out of your son and then drove your Lexus to San Francisco to save 20 bucks. Man, how times have changed. 510 has gone through major remolding and has evolved from their full skateboard roots and into the streetwear scene. They basically knocked everything out and gave the store a brighter open feel to it. They now stock brands like In4mation, The Hundreds, WESC, Diamond Supply Co. to name a few. They still carry decks, skateboard shoes and of course still stocking Nike SB. Check them out if you have done so already! read more
