We have been to 520 Bar & Grill many times and have always enjoyed it, which made this experience especially disappointing. First, I want to say that our server was great. He was new, attentive, and did a wonderful job throughout the evening. The girl training him was also great and equally attentive and professional. This review is not a reflection of either of them--the service at our table was excellent. Our group spent nearly $350 on dinner and drinks that evening and ordered multiple cocktails and beverages throughout the meal. A friend ordered two glasses of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc listed at $14 per glass. We were told they were out and that the only available alternative was the Rombauer Sauvignon Blanc at $18 per glass. Since there were only two options and the restaurant was out of the original wine ordered, we assumed the price would be adjusted accordingly. When the bill arrived, we were charged the full $18 per glass. We politely asked the manager, Taylor, about it. Her first response was, "Did you drink it?" When we explained that we did, but that the substitution was due to the restaurant being out of the wine we ordered, she followed with, "Have you been here before?"--which felt unnecessarily dismissive considering we have visited at least 30+ times. Taylor refused to adjust the price, stating that because we drank the wine, no adjustment would be made. When we decided to simply pay and leave, she then commented that we were "escalating things." To make matters worse, as we were leaving, she stood with the host, pointed us out, and made a point of announcing that we were leaving, which felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. This was never about the $8 difference--especially during a nearly $350 meal. It was about customer service and how a simple issue was handled. Unfortunately, the manager's response overshadowed what was otherwise a nice evening and excellent service from our server. Disappointing experience from management and not what we have come to expect from a place we have supported for years. read more

We came here for Happy Hour to watch some World Cup football action. I'm so surprised that this place is not packed because their outdoor patio situation is fire! They had multiple TVs with very clear reception. The outdoor area is very spacious. Inside the restaurant is a little bit dark, but they also had multiple TVs in there. The service was good. The steak bites were tender but the jumbo pretzel was a little harder than I had hoped. I also ordered the huckleberry lemonade cocktail, which was nice and refreshing. The only mini annoyance was the audio was about 2 mins behind what we were actually seeing. I think they might have been streaming from 2 channels or something... not sure, but something was up with the audio. Overall, a great place to watch FIFA football. read more

Came here for happy hour with some friends. Initially I was bothered by how expensive everything it looked. I went for the steak frites and was super happy with it. The steak was cooked super well. The only downside was the portion size. The fries were also really good. The inside is about what you'd expect for a bar in Bellevue. The service is also good, pretty fast and more than happy to answer any questions. There was also plenty of street parking outside for free. read more

Came here for a takeout order on a Wednesday night and they were pretty busy. Located in Old Bellevue, I got the buffalo chicken wings. Steak frites and the bread pudding. The front desk was very kind and efficient. Brought the food back to my hotel and the food was still fresh. Wings were very large and not overly spicy. I had a great lunch at the place while meeting with a vendor. The outdoor area was nice and clean and quite large for the area. Service was quick and we were seated and tended to in a timely manner. We were checked on plenty. Our table got the Cajun chicken sandwich and southwest salad. Both were excellent and we were very happy with the quality. The Caesar for a side wasn't the best but good. We popped in here yesterday around 1:00. They offer street parking but not sure about a private lot as we were walking. It was a hot day but we did want to sit outside. They have a nice outdoor area and quite a few umbrellas to help avoid the direct sun. They seated us at a table that worked. Our server was friendly and prompt and kept bringing new water carafes as we emptied them. I like when restaurants do this so we don't have to wait for them to fill individual glasses. The menu offers many lunch selections - and a brunch menu as well. We ordered a club sandwich which had the option of coming with a Caesar salad. It was exactly what one wants out of a club. The ambiance of the indoor seating seemed to be dark and moody. There is both indoor and outdoor seating! The outdoor seating has nice lights and is very nice even at night! We don't drink alcohol but no problem for HH here. I liked 520 spinach salad, fresh and combination w spinach and sliced strawberries are delicious. When you're hanging out in Old Bellevue there are a couple of things you don't expect: 1) to be able to find parking even remotely close to where you're going 2) to be able to find a good happy hour deal that won't break the bank For both of these reasons, I was stunned to stumble upon the 520 Bar & Grill recently when I had a meeting nearby and was craving a beer afterward. I'd actually even managed to find a parking spot almost right in front of this restaurant, so it was definitely kismet. I grabbed myself a seat at the bar and the bartender appeared almost instantly to take my order. I grabbed a Mac 'n Jack's (#drinklocal) and a chicken quesadilla. The beer was so cold I had to wonder: do they store their kegs on ice?! Seriously, though, I LOVE a cold pint and this one was fabulous. I'll try to remember this next summer when it's blazing hot outside and I'm craving a TRULY cold one. The quesadilla was also delish. I like 'em pretty crispy, and this one did not disappoint. It was full of chicken, cheese, and served with what tasted like a house-made pico. And since it was happy hour, this whole meal cost only $17! I'm telling you, that is unheard of in Old Bellevue. It was like a couple of kids playing dress-up. The food was just alright. My wife had chicken noodle soup. Sounds easy enough, but to dress-it-up they spiced-it-up. The reason my wife ordered the soup is that chicken noodle soup is probably the safest item on a menu as far as spiciness. She can't do spicy. She took one bite and told me it had a kick to it. I tasted it and she was right. Who serves spicy chicken noodle soup? My son had a rather pedestrian club sandwich and fries. I could have easily made the same if not a better sandwich at home. I ordered two appetizers to share; Coconut prawns and cauliflower bites. Both were tasteless with exception of the Thai chili sauce that drenched both of the plates. I love Thai chili sauce...as a dipping sauce. The prawns weren't bad, just rather bland sans the drenching of Thai chili sauce. The cauliflower were just big breading globs and also smothered in Thai chili sauce. My son finished his club sandwich, neither my wife nor I finished our meals. Two rounds of drinks and the meal, plus the tip which they added on to the tab, $160. For an impressive meal, I don't mind that kind of tab. The crispy potatoes were delightful. My friend ordered an omelet and requested no peppers or tomatoes. It had tomatoes, which the server noticed as he set it in front of her. Came here for the first time because we wanted to lunch with the dogs. I thought it would be miserable because the temps were in the 30s and being on a patio in those temps are rough for someone who spent the last decade living in the miserable 100 degree weather in the Burbank sun. They had plastic tenting but I didn't see heating lamps. Funny thing is they didn't need them. It was a sunny day, so the heat from the sun was bathing over us to the point that everyone had their jackets off. We got the spinach and artichoke dip and that was cheesy and solid. We also ordered the steak bites (wanted to make sure we could slip the pups a treat) and they were sooo soft and the sauce was perfect. I expected they would be tough because who serves steak bites for apps, but this was so tender and delicious. The 520 burger was really good. They gave me a generous amount of mayo and bbq sauce on the side and I need lots of of that stuff so our waiter did right by us. Thanks PG! Mom really liked the Asian White Fish in a ginger glaze and smothered with almonds. The restaurant is located in a cute little area in Bellevue where there are lots of little shops and restaurants within the same couple of blocks. Go here often, and have always sat inside. This time we sat on the patio- game changer! My table could have lovely conversation our entire meal with the pleasant live music in the background. Inside is so loud and I'm always tired by end of meal from straining to hear and talking so loud to be heard- I get it, some people love that, but I really appreciate the patio option! On Sunday I wanted to take some friends out for a bit to eat. Unfortunately we ended up late because traffic was so bad. When we arrived though we immediately got seated outdoors on their patio. There was live music, but not too loud that you can't talk so it was great. We ordered their nachos for an appy which was in my opinion fantastic! Their Arnold Palmer's though could use some work, they didn't taste at all like one. **The restaurant version of Abercrombie & Fitch** This restaurant is found in old Bellevue near Bellevue Park/Square. They have a great drink selection, and an okay food menu. Food -- if you're going for brunch, I would recommend the steak and eggs. If you're going midday, try the steak bites (Note: it's literally just perfectly cooked steak--they don't have any sides that would pair with this). Ambiance -- I would suggest sitting outside. The inside is kind of stuffy/humid, which is unfavorable during the summertime. Service -- It appears like they pick and choose who they give good service to. There's definitely a "vibe" here, and if you dine here I think you'll pick up what that vibe is. I went here with my partner earlier this afternoon, and we wanted to sit outside they didn't have any seating readily available, so we chose a table inside. The people behind us got seated outside maybe a minute or two after we sat down, and we requested to sit to be moved after that. When we finally got outside, it appeared that there was a significant amount of seating. We saw many parties get seated fairly quickly outside, but didn't see that many people leave. There may be context I'm missing but I doubt it. Additionally, I saw a hostess put a party of three at the sidewalk seating. It seemed like they wanted to sit at the table next to us (it seated 4-5), but the hostess declined, and that spot (which was open and available) remained open for another 6 minutes, until we saw a party of 4 get seated there. I was prepared to call a manager over to express my disgust, but I've had at least 3 bad experiences with service, with no improvement, so I let it go. Our server was nice but not attentive. I noticed they did not come to our table for almost 10 minutes; but went to the tables around us 3 times each during that time. I let him know it wasn't okay, and he just had this look on his face like he had no idea what I was talking about. Before someone asks, I always tip at least 20%, and even though I gave him constructive criticism, I still gave him 20% (although I probably should have tipped much lower). This is probably my last time coming here since more restaurants opened up in Bellevue Square I would recommend coming here if you want good drinks and want to sit outside, but don't expect stellar service. Had never been here before but stopped by while shopping. I noticed the fake air freshener aroma just seconds upon entering. It was fairly busy, but no wait to get a table. The food is good, prepared well with quality ingredients, The prices are on the high side for salads and sandwiches, but probably average for the area . I saw tacos go by our table and pointed out to our server I didn't see them on the menu, and got a really weird answer about different menus but for sure implying that I couldn't order tacos. Confusing. We would've probably stayed longer but the fake air freshener smell was irritating my sinuses and making me cough.
