Unique speakeasy that was actually a bit difficult to find; hidden by the stairs on the ground floor of the W hotel. The front bar is brightly lit and great for conversation. The rear bar is more of a dimly lit lounge with live music at night. Cocktails were okay, but innovative with their use of ingredients. Their bites came in large portion sizes. They have an absinthe rig with various grades of absinthe if you'd like to experience it. One of the menu items was a custom cocktail concocted to your liking, but they seemed too slammed to come up with one for me at the time.

Service was great! Great vibes. Dim lighting and very upscale. The cocktails were very tart. Even the bourbon one was very tart. Will return though to check out their food!

Needed a break today from the mall and the amazing hostess made that happen. I enjoyed great drinks and amazing service in a cool place, so I definitely recommend.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. The experience started the moment we walked in. We were greeted by a staff member who asked if we had a reservation. We did, but we were early -- and he immediately told us it wasn't a problem. He cracked a few jokes, which instantly made us feel welcome and happy to be there. He was incredibly friendly, funny, and set the tone for a fantastic evening. We were shown to our seats but noticed the bar was open, so we chose to sit there instead. From the moment we sat down, we were greeted by one of the friendliest bartenders I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He asked about our evening, whether we were celebrating anything special, and genuinely made us feel valued. His service and cocktails were top-notch. He took the time to understand what we liked, offered thoughtful recommendations, and every drink was excellent. On top of that, two different servers stopped by to check on us and let us know they were available if we needed anything while the bartender was busy. That level of teamwork and attentiveness really stood out. What started as a quick nightcap turned into a much longer stay because of how welcoming and enjoyable the atmosphere was. The staff truly made the experience. Highly recommend -- and I'm very much looking forward to coming back.

Came here with a few colleagues after dinner. It wasn't busy on a weekday night, so they were able to seat us despite being a large party. The entrance is kind of hard to find but it is located within the W Hotel. The interior decor is quite nice and vibey. They have a variety of cocktails, so plenty of options to choose from. I opted for the Strawberry Soirée ($18), which was quite nice and refreshing. One of my friends got the Cuffing Season ($18), which was also excellent and a solid choice if you want some chocolate liquor in your cocktail. Didn't try any of the food so can't comment on that. Service was decent.

Though this place is known for its cocktails, I found then to be average. The food though was just phenomenal! Great ambiance and service! Prices are on the higher side so be ready to drop a bomb! Worth it for an occasional night out.

I drop into this bar every once in awhile and am pleased to do so. I enjoy the vibe and atmosphere here. The bartenders are good and the drinks are well made and presented perfectly. New favorite is the ancho confidential.

There was a great breadth of cocktails and it's really nice that they have food. Our waiter was very friendly. The seating options were swanky. We loved the DJ playing cool mashups.

Went here and the service was excellent. Walked in and loved the dark n moody vibe. You can hear conversations and not loud. Elijah the guy with the beard and bartender did amazing service. Ordered old fashion cocktails and it was great. Would come back!

I held a team party here. Easy to book and coordinate with the manager. Set a dollar limit so folks could order any drinks they wanted up to the limit. Great spread of appetizers and hors d'oeuvres. Happy bartenders acted as our servers and kept the food stocked and fresh. Wonderful ambiance. The entrance doesn't open till 5 and you walk through the bar around to the back to C&U for the room there. FYI the valet will tell you to go to the restaurant which is on the 2nd floor. C&U is on the first floor.

Walking into the place there is a front bar. It's very bright and we walk to the back which is where we were seated and it was super lounge feeling, and very well decorated. We were seated at the bar and we were greeted by the bartender very quickly. They had very unique drinks, and he was very knowledgeable about what to order based on what we liked. They make all their syrups and juices from scratch and they don't use any artificial mixers. We were very impressed with the drinks that we got and would definitely come back here next time we're in the Seattle area.

Came here with some girlfriends for drinks and dinner. The vibe and decor of the place is very cool, and our waiter (JoJo) was the absolute best (he was very on top of keeping our wine glasses full and helping with taking photos, even a video lol) The cocktails are all one price $22, so it's pretty spendy. The drinks were very unique and had fun presentation. The food was a bit disappointing. I enjoyed the starters (carrots and sprouts), and the wagyu tartare was tasty but maybe a bit too rich with the butter spread they use - which overpowered the meat, but the pastas were very overpriced and had tiny portions. We also ordered the cod which was a super small portion of fish for the price.

TLDR : Fun ambience, limited food options but great drinks We visited Civility and Unrest while visiting Seattle and loved the place- such a fun ambience and setting. The drinks were good, the absinthe fountain was a fun experience ($$$). The fries were nice, the spicy sauce was great. The food options are however limited. There servers were nice polite and good with their drinks recommendations.

Ask the Community - Civility & Unrest

Does this location have a set dress code?

I met friends here last-minute and didn't have any problem getting in with workout clothes. It is a swankier speakeasy-style place at the W Hotel though, so did feel a bit self conscious about being under dressed if that helps

    Do you accept reservations?

I believe they do. When I went there was a private party in the back.

Does this place have happy hour?

    Yes! From 5-7pm

TL;DR: Tapster is an awesome spot you have to check out if you're a beer lover. Never in my life have I had the opportunity to pour my own beer at a bar from so many different taps before. The wide variety of beers here is not something you see often. Most of the time when a place has a large beer menu, it's saturated with a bunch of lagers and IPAs. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how many sours, fruit beers, ciders and stouts they had here. My favorite beer of the evening was one that hot hot honey mixed in with it. While there are a few snacks available for purchase here, you are more than welcome to bring outside food in as well. Overall, Tapster is an awesome beer spot that I would highly recommend to others stopping by in the area.

They offer happy hour all day on Sundays, and since they don't take reservations, it's first come, first served. We arrived a little after 2 PM and there was plenty of open seating inside and out. This location is in the Spring District, which is super convenient if you're taking the light rail since it drops you off right there. It's located next to a park like plaza with a small grassy area and little water fountains. According to their website, kids are welcome in the restaurant and patio areas until 8 PM (but not in the bar area), which makes this a nice family friendly spot earlier in the day. Later on, the vibe seems like it would be perfect for catching a game, grabbing drinks with friends, and enjoying a more energetic brewery atmosphere. We started with two Moscow mules. Since that's one of our go to drinks and we've had quite a few, these weren't our absolute favorite here. They leaned more on the lime heavy side, and we weren't sure if the ginger beer was just a little flat. That being said, we still finished them! The Birria nachos were the highlight for me! They were so delicious, and the beer cheese sauce was SO good. I honestly just wished there was more of it because it added such a great flavor. My only small complaint is that I wish the toppings were spread out a little more evenly so every bite had a good mix, but overall they were still really tasty. The Mac Attack was also good, but it didn't completely wow us. If you're looking for an ultra thick, super creamy mac and cheese, this probably isn't that style. Still, it was a solid dish and enjoyable! Overall, we had a great first visit and would definitely come back to try more of the menu. Great location right in the heart of the Spring District with a fun atmosphere!

We then went to the bar where the bartender greeted us with, "IDs out!" and then left. No "hi" no "here's a menu, I will be back over". Just "IDs out!" This was while the place was practically empty, so I'm not sure what else could have been occupying their time. Second, I ordered the pork shoulder stir fry which wasn't bad but had several large pieces of pure fat & gristle in it that I felt a high quality restaurant would have taken out of the dish. It's indicative of lazy & careless food preparation skills. Also, the basmati rice was very under-cooked...some pieces were even crunchy. Lastly, after leaving the place, I realized that I accidentally left my sunglasses there. So I called later that evening to inquire if they had found them. I discovered they route all incoming calls to a bot that instantly made me feel unimportant and unappreciated. What's worse is it tried to connect me with someone in the restaurant, but kept looping back into its own messaging narrative. What an absolute PITA. This enables me to make a broader point: Restaurants have to get it through their heads that cutting costs has negative impact on customer experience, putting the lifeblood of their business into jeopardy. Take the widespread adoption of QR code-based menus during COVID...how many restaurants do you know actually switched back to real menus after COVID passed? The answer is very few. The reason why? They are too stingy to pony up the dough and ignore the benefit to the customer experience. They figure, 'people already know how to do that so why spend the money on printing up menus anymore?". They couldn't care less about what customers might actually enjoy more, and that's the real travesty. If restaurants are going to force their customers into a self-serve model (as so many have nowadays), then why bother tipping anyone? I am so fed up of a world where the idolatry of wealth has surpassed the appreciation and value of real, engaging human experiences. The Central Bar + Restaurant could help reverse this course if they ever decide to they put customer experience first instead of their own profits. UPDATE: Added one star because they actually had my shades...went ot go pick them up today.
