Only went to the produce side of 59 Bayard Market. While it wasn't a huge selection compared to some other fresh markets in Chinatown, what I did appreciate was everything well presented and had an English selection of what it was - not something you find every shop in the neighborhood. When examining their fresh mushroom options, opted for a reasonably priced pack of the White Bunashumeji (a.k.a. Beech) variety. Delicious in my fish in parchment dish! Great local meat market - brightly lit, small, but very clean (no weird smells) with lots of different cuts of pork, beef and chicken. They even have a prepared food section with delicious prepared dishes like Salt & Pepper Whole Shrimp, Steamed Spareribs, etc It is cramped, but service is quick. Got 3 pounds of beef shank for $17.99 to make beef noodle soup. The meat was high quality and created a wonderful soup with lots of collagen. read more

A small hot food section, and mostly fresh and frozen meats here. Big long meat counter. You can come here for reasonably good cuts at different prices sometimes from the store on Elizabeth, interestingly enough. Great place with raw meat, vegetables, and cooked foods. Prices are reasonable. I regular buy the pork butt, chicken legs, bok choy, and the cooked fried butterfish. Place is small and always packed with regulars. Staff friendly and checkout service efficient. 4 stars and not 5 because some of the marinated cooked food are in trays right next to raw meat trays in the meat counter section, risking cross contamination. I suggested to meat counter person to move all the cooked food trays to one side. I do not expect any changes so if I buy the cooked foods in the meat section, I cook it at home to remove any risks of food poisoning. read more

The original Bayard Market on the right entrance sells groceries where seniors can use their food stamps, while the Bayard Meat Market on the left entrance sells cooked items. After seeing that the store on the right does groceries, I went to the Meat Market. The workers are going around filling orders and restocking items. One employer helped me get the zongzi and lo mai gai dumplings. They sell fresh meat, marinated and precook foods I don't buy meats from them . They add water to the beef , the radish cake is terrible , no other ingredient other than radish and a little ground pork , very watery , not worth the $6 . The pre marinated and precook food will not last more than 24 hours . If you buy , you should eat it right away or it will go bad. read more

This place is where I buy my meats. The price is so cheap and I think it is super. The same company owns deluxe supermarket so they have the same distributor as them. I think the quality here is slightly below that of Deluxe supermarket but it is notably cheaper. If you compare the same item to item, the ones at Bayard is definitely more affordable. But it is the sister shop to Bayard Meat Market, so we stopped here to get our seafood (mostly because it is extremely clean for a Chinatown establishment). We got some fish fillets, great quality without water and bone mass which was nice. You grab what you want and give it to the nice Chinese man who sticks a price on it. We got two fillets for $4. Bayard Fish Market opened in Feb 2008 at the former location of Princess Lounge Karaoke Bar and Grill. They have a great selection of fresh fish and shrimps, seasonings, cooking oils and fresh vegetables. My mom always tells me if I shop here and next door at Bayard Meat Market, I don't have to go anywhere else and you know mommy is always right. I asked for 1lb, not 2, and the butcher behind the counter said he doesn't do 1lb, so I said but your meat says by the lb not by the piece. They are associated with Deluxe Food Market, a fact made obvious by the Chinese name and lettering. I've been there many times but this is my first time visiting this store. First of all it's divided in two; on the left there's a meat market, and on the right there's produce and packaged goods. Every week I head into Chinatown after work to get groceries, and this is where I get my meats. The place neat and clean, (though a bit narrow), and I can usually find what I need for the week. For those that don't speak or read Chinese, many of the butchers can communicate with you in broken English, (though the quest for fresh cuts of meat transcends all languages). By the way, the rows of prepared meat dishes on the top row on display are great for when you don't have time to cook. Grab a pound for two people, bring it home and steam for 15 minutes. The first time 7 years ago, she sent me to Orchard Street in Chinatown to find this factory that moved to Brooklyn a week prior I got into town. Flash forward to this year and armed with the knowledge of knowing that they sell to groceries, I was able to get a suitcase worth of cured duck legs, pork belly, and lap cheong. There are two sides to the Bayard Meat Market, 59 is the butcher. 57 is a deli with cooked foods and fresh squeezed orange juice at the front. Mmmmmm.... My mom has been shopping at Bayard Meat's for as long as we've been in New York; it's one of our primary meat markets. I find that the service is much better in this one than at the other ones where we shop; the ladies at the cashier always give extra white plastic baggies if you ask. The one thing I can appreciate about this store, unlike other meat markets in Chinatown, is how clean the place is. And this one does not smell like a meat market, which can be very pungent in certain meat markets in Chinatown. I am all about hygene when it comes to where I shop. And the seafood? Well, my mom purchased a few pounds of the prawns, and from the outcome of her cooking, I was in shellfish heaven! If I don't need to pick up anything else besides fresh produce, I will come to Bayard Meat Market (and its sister store next door for veggies). For Chinese speakers, the butchers are really friendly, will happily tell you the best type and cut of meat to buy for whatever you want to cook and don't push you to buy more than you ask for (so if you ask for 1 lb of something, they give you very close to 1 lb). Prices are on par with HK Supermarket and quality of the produce is fresh. Every time I make Chinese roast pork I buy the cuts here and it always turns out amazing. Also their live fish are really fresh and delicious. There is a $10 minimum for card purchases. They will also happily accept your loose change, including pennies (just don't be annoying and go overboard with it). read more

I was seafood shopping in Chinatown. I prefer shopping at Ocean Star and Win Choy Seafood markets over this shop. The other two have a larger selection of shrimp, fish, crabs, lobster, squid and many more options. This store is smaller and have less choices. Also higher prices. I happened upon this place a while back when I poked my head into the store out of curiosity. I knew there was a reason why I was drawn to the store but honestly not because of the meat. I thought I would try their home made dumplings and was instantly hooked. for 20 dumplings (shrimp, veg, pork) roughly $2.25-$2.75 a package is a STEAL! Boil up some water and toss in a bullion cube with the dumplings and you have instant dumpling soup to warm your innards during those frigid NYC days! Sometimes if you get the right cashier she will give you a free package of dumplings. Bring your own bag and they will thank you, really they will! read more

CAUTION: NOT FOR EVERYONE. this is a typical meat market located in the middle of Chinatown, please don't expect anything fancy because that's definitely what you won't find here. you have middle aged chinese workers who do not care about customer service but they will get their job done in servicing your needs. located on 59 bayard they have two storefronts both containing meats and vegetables. however one storefront has fresh food and this place is PERFECT for budget friendly lunch. you get a ricebox where you get to choose three sides from a variety of twenty different side dishes and this all comes out to be $3.50. chinatown may be known for the cheap food but with prices going up everywhere, it's impossible to find a ricebox for less than $5 and this is where 59 Bayard Market comes in! you get homestyle cooked chinese food without the MSG. please be aware that during lunch time it can get extra busy and the line gets a little long, before closing they pack everything into containers and sell it off for a cheaper price. no frills, nothing fancy, not the best customer service either nor may it be the cleanest place but if you are looking for a cheap lunch that will fill you up and reasonably priced meats + vegetables this is the place to go to. read more

Great place for the staples and also the not so staples like ground pork, pork cartilage ribs and pork belly all for much lower prices than western grocery stores. Come in with a plan as no one's got time for the indecisive. If you're only picking up a couple things, also make sure you have cash on hand as there's a $10 minimum for credit card purchases. If you do not have this, you will absolutely get the stink eye... from everyone. I know from experience. Opposite from the meat counter are the prepared foods. The cha xiu here is spot on as is the soy sauce chicken. Skip the fried pork belly (too salty and not nice when cold) and the beef tendon (one note in flavor). Be sure to ask for the dipping sauces.
