First time trying, and honestly won't be back. I'll start with the good. Place was clean, the service was excellent and very friendly, albeit slow as it wasn't very busy on this off season week. The friendly service is what upped the stars. Ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and a toasted everything with butter, and an iced coffee. Husband said coffee was good. We waited 25 min for something that should've taken less than 5. When it came out the everything wasn't toasted but we also didn't want to wait any longer. The bagels were definitely not boiled, and tasted like a piece of bread, not at all like a bagel. The size was ok, but for what we paid, just not worth it. I will stick to my rule of only eating bagels in NJ or north. read more

This is a local owned business that is well worth the wait in line. We arrived around 9 on a Thursday with a bit of a wait. You stand in line to order and they bring the food to you when it's done. There's a dining room and a bar as well as patio seating. We ordered four bagels: one plain with grape jelly, one blueberry with strawberry jelly, one bacon egg and pepper jack on Asiago and one bacon, egg, American and bacon scallion cream cheese on jalapeño. We also order two coffees - one iced one hot, orange juice, a sunrise smoothie and a mimosa from the bar. Our sweets order was: donut holes, an Oreo donut and a cinnamon roll. The bagels were all very fresh and made perfectly. The coffees were custom orders and delicious - I had a hot cinnamon hazelnut coffee and it was an amazing combination! The donut holes were our favorite sweet! You could tell they were made fresh! The service was outstanding and the ambience was ideal. The kids loved watching the surfers on the big waves playing on the television! Definitely a must visit spot at OIB! read more

I have had bagels here before and they were good bagels. Today, something is different. It's not like bagel dough at all. It's like a bread roll. No chewy texture and dry. Very disappointing. Came back a few times during this year's beach week. Thrilled to see Taylor Ham (aka pork roll) on the menu as a breakfast meat option. Even their simple iced lattes are yummy. Get there early if you want to order some donuts, and to ensure your bagel preference is still available. When they run out, they run out! Always a line, but it moves. Staff are very friendly. Bottom line: 59 Causeway makes a good bagel breakfast sandwich, which was delicious and the most enjoyable food item from there I had. The plain bagel with cream cheese was adequate, and be prepared for long lines about any time in the a.m. for ordering food. Definitely visit The Bay Grill Bar that they have there for a positive bar experience, I'm glad we stopped by while waiting for food. The Deets: We tried out 59 Causeway a couple of times on our group's annual recent beach trip to OIB (wow, almost 20 years we have been going together). 59 Causeway is located before the Odell Williamson Bridge on the island, next to Sheffield's store. Since they are a business that is still on the island where going back over the bridge is not necessary, they tend to have long lines most mornings (at least the times we were there). One of our group loves bagels so we were there a couple of times to get his bagel fix taken care of while on vacation. The line itself moved pretty well, and service did a good job once we arrived at the register. For my experience, I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and also a breakfast sandwich bagel with egg, turkey sausage, and cheese. Their bagels are excellent for use in bagel sandwiches...I really enjoyed my breakfast sandwich from here. However, for this same reason, I did not think they were the best "bagel with cream cheese" bagel I've had...it was good, don't get me wrong, but not stellar. In waiting for our food one time though, we discovered they had The Bay Grill Bar as part of the 59 Causeway total business, and so we got Bloody Marys and mimosas while waiting. This little bar was definitely a cool little place to hang out, and I imagine they have quite a full house for later evenings as well. The bar side was definitely popular this a.m. and both the bartender as well as fellow patrons were in good spirits. My bagel with cream cheese was more like a 3 star experience but the delicious bagel breakfast sandwich as well as enjoying The Bay Grill Bar side of things pushes my impression up to 4 stars. read more

Nice casual breakfast place! My fiancé and I got an iced chai latte, an iced matcha latte, a cinnamon bun with buttercream frosting, chicken and pancakes, and a scrap heap (a bagel piled with bacon, sausage, etc.) The cinnamon roll was huge so you can definitely share with another person! The iced Chai latte was a bit too sweet but would be perfect for anyone who has a sweet tooth! I personally liked the taste of the matcha latte but my fiancé would prefer it to be sweeter. Maybe we should have gotten each other's drinks! The fried chicken and cakes comes with a piece of fried chicken patty and two pancakes that comes with whipped butter and the syrup is self served. While the plate didn't look very big, I was surprisingly pretty full even after just halfway done. The chicken was nice and moist on the inside and very crunchy on the outside! If you are interested in trying out I would suggest going earlier as the line does become quite long starting at 9AM! read more

Yummy food with choices reminiscent of other times and places. They tend to run out of favorites before closing for the day. It's also a little disappointing that no extras or special touches accompany the order, missing the opportunity to create a unique identity to set itself apart. Having grown up in/near big cities where the overall population has "cut their teeth on bagels", standing out is key, especially given the total cost $$ here. Kudos to the owners/staff at the front and back (bar), however. All are friendly, warm and welcoming whenever we've visited 59 Causeway. I'd likely visit more often if this cozy cafe was able to kick it up a notch, of which Ocean Isle Beach would benefit greatly. read more

I love this place. I come every time I'm down at our family's beach house. It may be one of the only breakfast places on the island but they do a fantastic job. Bagels are great! Stopped by here one October morning when staying in OIB to pick up breakfast for the fam. The girl at the front counter was very polite and kindly assisted me with my fairly large order. I ordered 4 bagels with meat, cheese, and egg, as well as 3 flavored lattes and a chai latte! Cost about $40 total, which is cheaper than if we had decided to stop by any chain restaurant. Each employee was dressed in a Halloween costume, super cute and festive!! Our food/drinks were ready in less than ten minutes. Quick service, awesome food, and friendly employees! Prices, prices, prices...no prices on the overhead or info board as to how much anything costs. It's not til you wait in a long line and get to the register that you are allowed to see the prices. I liken this to holding me captive. I've taken photos of hand held menu at the register and posted them. Prices good as of April 2021. Staff indicates there is not enough room on the boards to post the prices. Lordy, Lordy that is a poor excuse. Food is good though I'm not sure the bagels are boiled then baked. staff is super friendly. There is a cool surfer vibe going with indoor and outdoor seating that is comfortable. They have done a good job welcoming folks. The view is very pretty of the ca I didn't care for the coffee. I purchased a 20 oz regular coffee. Rarely do I "stumble" upon any new establishment in Ocean Isle Beach, but that is because I frequent here so often and grew up in OIb. After having surgery this past week, I decided to convalesce at the beach, and since I am encouraged to walk, I carefully, and literally/figuratively "stumbled" out of the car and upon this place. Amazing! From the service received from cashier to cooks and food preparation staff, the service was exceptional. Couple that with the lunch menu that exceeds expectations, the cute full service bar in the back, quaint outdoor seating, mouth watering bagels (literally the best I have ever had), the cream cheese schmears (jalapeño is to die for), and the most decadent, freshly baked cinnamon buns on the planet (Cinnabon pales in comparison) and you have one of the best new establishments ever for this beach. You MUST try out this place when visiting Ocean Isle Beach. It is worth it! I'll be back, but hopefully not in the same condition and I can enjoy the experience more. read more

Absolutely fantastic bagel/coffee/pastry joint. Been here for 4 years & am kicking myself for having not tried 59 sooner!! It's newly renovated inside, with indoor and outdoor seating plus a full bar open year round. Service animals are allowed & it's right on the waterway. The veggie western bagel is a home-run choice, can't go wrong. The staff learn your name after 2-3 visits & are incredibly kind, would give the shirt off their back. The third star is for the friendly staff. But I wasn't impressed with the breakfast bagels. Bagels are soft but they don't put enough in them. Hardly any egg at all. And the egg was burnt. Bacon was ok. But they need to stuff these fatter for the price. The everything bagel had salt chunks on it that were a little too much. The meal gave me wicked indigestion. read more
