Heard a lot of good things about this place. Being quite familiar with cheesesteak and hoagies, I wanted to give it an honest try at it. I was in the neighborhood so I found and placed the order online. Got there a little after the time I specified and my order was already prepared and ready. And then I had another 30 minute drive home. So it was most likely about an hour after it was prepared that I got to try it First thing, it was still warm. I only ordered the cheese fries and the cheesesteak. As you can tell the fries were a little limp from the moisture and time. The sub roll was also soggy because of the same reason. But I won't judge them on those qualities because it is more on me and my situation than their part. They did their job. The only thing I will comment is the taste, which is all on them. The cheese fries were solid. It definitely would have been better eaten fresh but it was still very good. The cheesesteak on the other hand, was delicious. Both my son and I thoroughly enjoyed the flavor of it. Yes it was soggy but it did not affect the flavor! I ordered some peppers but wish they had options for hots and different types of hot peppers they offer in Philadelphia. But otherwise, the cheesesteak was great. There are a lot of things 5th & Steaks has gotten right with this cheese steak. First, I do love the bread. I'm such a sesame seed girly and this bread was soft but also had the right amount of chewiness. I decided to go with The Bmore with Coop cheese which also comes with fried onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and cherry peppers. I have to say that it was pretty tasty. I couldn't really taste the lettuce or the tomatoes and that's okay. I definitely could have went with some pickles as well but overall it was pretty good. Cheese wasn't over cheesy and I couldn't tell if the spice was coming from the cheese or just the cherry peppers but it was a good level although I like it a bit spicier. Again, some fresh jalapenos could definitely make the difference :-) It was definitely a good sandwich and I finished most of it. I did read about their new location that opened yesterday in Glen Burnie and I'm happy that they are expanding. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was that my food was ready before my pickup time and I wasn't alerted to it. If I had arrived later or at my pickup time, my food would have been cold. This was definitely an over-indulgence but if I ever need it to be naughty and was craving a cheese steak, I definitely go back. read more

Solid cheesesteak. I ordered online because folks said the line can take awhile. So I walked right up, told them my name, and they cheerfully handed it over. I got the Bmore Cheesesteak, which is a cheesesteak with the works as well as some cherry peppers. I got a mix of Cooper Sharp and Provolone and I think that was a winning combo. A seeded roll was a nice option that I can't believe I've ever had before with a cheesesteak! Firm outside but still chewy and a nice sesame note. Recommended! I was pleasantly surprised with how well both the fries and roll held up with packaging and not turning soggy. The fries are coated in something magical - they stayed crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside despite being in a to-go box. And the roll had a nice crust but wasn't hard. Overall, worth trying out. The options are limited and the prices a tad steep (this is the new normal, I guess) but it's a big sandwich for what you pay for - mine turned into two lunches, so that's a solid upside. read more

We heard all the hoopla and decided to check it out. 5th & Steaks is a food truck establishment located on the parking lot at Rolling Rd. and Powers La. in Catonsville, MD. There was plenty of parking available. We approached the truck and were greeted by a pleasant young man. We ordered the cheesesteak sub with fried onions and Cooper cheddar cheese and went back to our car to wait as our order was being prepared. You can also call your order for pickup. The ambiance was as you would expect at a traditional food truck, but we did notice it getting more crowded as we waited for our order. Our order was ready in a decent amount of time. It was a large and hefty sub, enough for two with generous portions of meat. The flavor was very good and fresh. We were able to taste the meat, fried onions, and cheese, which really worked well together. The bread was nice and fresh. I was only able to eat one half and was totally stuffed! I've seen this food truck pop up on my social media and knew I needed to try it myself. As reviews suggest, the wait can be long so I opted to order online. I chose my pickup time which was 30 minutes from placing my order. I arrived about 5 minutes early which was enough time for those already in line to be helped. When I got to the window I was told my order wasn't ready. I could see the tickets hanging and realized this place gets busy. About 10 minutes later my order was ready and off to the house I went. I ordered three customized cheesesteaks, I chose the 5th with light onions and extra cheese for my meal. It was worth the hype. I throughly enjoyed the quality of the meat and distinct flavors of the cheese. I recommend ordering online and trying their original cheesesteak made traditionally as if we were in Philly. So I went here with my husband uber excited. It's one of the last places that have become popular for, their cheesesteaks in the DMV, that I hadn't tried. They are a food truck situated in a parking lot and you can place your order at a kiosk of sorts or I'm sure online. We arrived shortly after noon and there wasn't a huge crowd. We placed our order on the kiosk. Fairly simple process but your options to customize your sandwich is fairly limited. They have their own customized sandwiches that you can choose from and if you do not want cheese on your sandwich you may want to eat elsewhere because they told my husband he could not omit the cheese from his (although strangely enough he could leave the cheese off the fries). It was no big deal to him, he chose provolone (as did I) because it is the milder of the only two cheese options you get which are cooper's sharp and provolone. I didn't like the limitations placed on ordering. I get that you want to give a certain experience to the customer, but trust people enough to know that they know how to they enjoy their food. And I know Cooper's sharp cheese is all the rage and it's become the standard cheese now for cheesesteaks in particular, but before people even knew what this cheese was , yellow American, white American, provolone and many other cheeses were used. So as a consumer, I view it as a fail if you say these are the only two cheese options. Just my opinion and I digress. After about a 15-20 minute wait, we get our food. They smell really good, everything is hot and at first glance, the sandwich was loaded with ribeye. We got the same exact order, the 5th cheesesteak and an order of the fries with steak on them to share. My first bite wasn't impressive. Immediately I realized that this steak, while cut nicely, was severely lacking flavor. I took a few more bites to confirm and then proceeded to reach for some inclusions like the mayo and ketchup packs they provided and the long hots I paid for. Those made it taste way better. And as far as the bread it was one of the best rolls I have tasted to date. Seeded, soft inside with a nice crunchy exterior..it was near perfect. I say near because unfortunately on the second half of my sandwich, no one took the time to cut the bread clean to the end and I was left with about 2-3 inches of bread with no steak. I felt short changed by that. So circling back to the meat...on top of it being flavorless, although a good cut and sliced well and clearly ribeye, there was entirely too much gristle in my sandwich. My husband experienced the same. I have never had a cheesesteak, where real ribeye was used and I was spitting out gristle with every third bite. I was honestly shocked that more care wasn't taken to remove that inedible portion of the meat. It really makes me question the quality of the ribeye that is being used. In conclusion if you asked me if I would go again, probably not. I was expecting to be wowed, based on everything that I've heard about this place and I wasn't at all (except by the bread maybe, even tho it wasn't fully cut opened). I have had the privilege of having tried some of the best cheesesteaks in Maryland and at least have tried a half dozen of the popular spots even in Philly and I've always been able to customize my sandwich the way I want it. So if you tout that you're one of the best from the cheesesteak capital (which we all know Philly is) and you don't give your customers the option to customize a sandwich beyond what cheese they want (of the only two you offer...and you have to get cheese) I guess because you want them to experience your offerings a certain way, your A game must be brought and it must be an airtight solid offering. Sadly, they missed the mark on yesterday.. this sandwich in execution and taste was such a fail. read more

I drove to Catonsville to check this place out and it was worth the drive. It's a food truck hiding in a shopping center (I went at night and drove right past it!) It wasn't busy so we placed our order and waited about 10-15 minutes for everything. The employees were nice and the food was fantastic. I do have to take off one star because we ordered no mayo on one sandwich and it came smothered in mayo. I will say other than that the food was great. Their steak and chicken was seasoned and very flavorful. I hear thy have another truck opening in the Glen Burnie area so I will have to check that one out. My brothers wanted to try the popular food truck in Catonsville. It's a very nice looking black food truck in the corner of a strip mall. No frills just food. We are always on the hunt for the best cheesesteak. When I arrived the noticed a crowd of people anxiously waiting for their orders. No one provided an update or any other form of communication. Just a kiosk and two people with their backs turned frantically chopping meat on the grill. My brother had already ordered for us twenty minutes before I got there. We waited an additional fifteen to get the order. I can say I did enjoy the texture of the bread with no seeds. I like how full the sub was but the cooper cheese overwhelms the meat. I'm not entirely sure that the meet was seasoned due to the abundance of onions and cheese that formed a glob. It's not a bad sub but it was a one and done experience for us. read more

Located directly off of Baltimore National Pike & Rolling road in the end of the center. I had heard so many reviews of them but even then they don't do them even justice. The parking is a breeze cause it's tons of space. But now to the main event I went with the pepper jawn. Which is a ribeye with cheese wiz, fried onions, & cherry peppers on a seeded roll. Easily one of the best cheesesteaks I've had all year. A healthy amount of steak & the best part that ranks it higher than Cheesesteaks & Co was the seeded roll was of good quality so none of that sub falling apart as you're eating it. Plus they also separate themselves with the various options on ordering you can literally call in, online, place an order at the truck or use the touchscreen at the window. The meat quality is good, which is why I keep coming back. Unfortunately, there's a recurring issue with my order. Every time I order a cheesesteak with provolone, I end up getting Cooper Sharp, even when the ticket clearly says provolone. Cooper Sharp has a very different, sharper taste, and for someone who doesn't like it, it completely changes the sub. By the time I get home and take a bite, it's too late to go back and have it fixed. This has happened multiple times and makes for an unsatisfying experience. The wait was 53 minutes. When I arrived several people were waiting to pick up their orders. The people at the window had just called #82. I placed my order and my it was #93. I waited 53 minutes until my order was called and several people who ordered after me had already received their food. I ordered 2 subs, the 5th and a order of fries. I waited there 53 minutes and heard order numbers higher than my number being called. I also witnessed someone bring back their food because it was the wrong order. Around a dozen people were waiting for there order to be called. Unwrapping the sub, I thought it looked good but the cheese is not provolone like I ordered. I pick up the sub and the bottom is hard like a cracker. I take a bite and it was clear the cheese was not provolone. The second sub that was not mine was correct and the bread was not scorched on the bottom. I can forgive absurd wait times but when orders higher than yours are called beforehand, and it looks like they have one item, that's not good customer service. Especially if the order is wrong, burnt, and a mix of old/ older refried fries. I will not be coming back.
