This local bagel shop has always been a favorite spot of mine whenever I come home to Richmond. It is the sister shop to the other classic Richmond restaurants, including the Old Richmond Inn, Galo's Italian Grill, and Ainsley's Cafe & Harbor Bar. Even with a small menu, 5th Street Coffee & Bagels still serves quality food and beverages. I love coming here to grab a coffee and pastry item and catch up with old friends! Fun fact: they have their chefs come in daily to prepare the bagels and other baked goods. My absolute favorite bakery item is their cinnamon rolls! They're huge and delicious! read more

I have been going to the Bagel Shoppe since it opened (so, many years). One of my favorites has been the lox and bagel sandwich. In the last several years, it has been going downhill, but today it hit rock bottom. There was "at most" the thinnest slice of lox in the sandwich that I have ever seen. I couldn't even taste it, given the creme cheese (plain) and capers. I was SO disappointed. I don't mind paying more for a decent sandwich. This was ridiculous. Dear 5th Street Bagel Shop... I paid 6.95 or so for this salad. I barely got a cup of lettuce and some of it is brown. When I asked for a garden salad I truly thought it would be more than this. I think your salads need to be removed from your menu if this is what you give out to your customers with a smile. 2 cucumber slices that are chopped, I'm pushing 2 tomato slices chopped, maybe 2 red onions chopped and a couple of banana peppers... as much as this cost you can do way better. I came back after quite some time to have their coffee and relax after a short day at work. Located in the Old Richmond Court, the place is a local quaint coffee shop I heard about a few years ago, and they could give Starbucks a run for their money. I ordered the Sugar Free Caramel Iced Coffee and Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Bagel, and it was all delicious! The coffee is smooth, and low calorie.just for me. I stayed away from coffee places until I learned about a way to lower the calories in the drinks. I now find it a pleasure. The Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Bagel is.creamy and delicious. This is all well worth your money. The place has a meeting room and even an aquarium to excite the kids. An aquarium in a coffee shop is different. So if you are ever in Richmond, IN, look up 5th Street Coffee and Bagels in the south part of town! You won't regret it. read more

My husband stopped and got us some bagels on his way home from work (3rd shifter). Every single bagel we tried was fresh, huge, fluffy, chewy, and absolutely delicious. We tried some with just plain cream cheese, and then we made breakfast sandwiches out of the others. 10/10! These are probably some of the best bagels I've ever had and I love bagels! I wish I would have taken pictures of them before we ate them! Will have to run in there for breakfast one day. I was told they have pretty good coffees as well. read more

I'm pretty torn about this place. I heard good things about it but my experience was not much to rave about. First, I was a little confused by their breakfast menu. If you don't want a bagel you could get, for example, an "Egg and Cheese". Is it like a sandwich? Just on a plate? Bagel? Well turns out you get a pretty thin egg and a slice of American cheese on (I think it's Italian) bread. It was nothing special and I could have made it at home. Not worth the $5. I also got a Turtle Latte. I'm not really sure if I would have considered it to be a latte though... it just tasted like flavored drip coffee and nothing more. We decided to eat in and I do have to say that the staff were wearing masks and have signs up to remind customers not to crowd the counter, but I noticed that the tables were not spaced properly. There were barely any customers sitting down but if the room was full no one would be able to socially distance because the tables are not 6 feet apart. I did really enjoy the layout of the restaurant though with all the different places to sit and rooms around the corner. Some of the decor is pretty neat, especially the old espresso machine. So overall I would come again to try their bagels, but that's probably it. What I had wasn't much to talk about. read more

On the plus side, the bagels and bagel options are comprehensive, just don't expect the coffee to match anything else..except the staff performance. Nothing has made me feel as unwelcome in an establishment as kicking my 3 year old out of the "kids toy room" so that a bunch of octogenarians can sit at a table and eat lunch. They could literally sit anywhere in the building. My son had one option, and we had been using the toy area for 30 minutes already. The staff told us we had to leave so the ladies could sit in there. My son cried on the way out because he didn't understand why he was being punished... Rude. Unwelcoming. Disrespectful. Hateful. Do not eat here. Do not recommend it to anyone. You can get better coffee a lot of places and the bagels are not that great. If nostalgia is what drives you to a coffee shop, then that's your thing. But if good service, friendly staff, good food, and coffee that's worth paying a premium for is something you value, stay away from 5th Street Coffee & Bagels. read more

I was visiting Richmond and happened to be passing this restaurant while hungry, so I decided to stop in. The layout is a bit broken up and if you are heading toward the back of the building towards the restrooms, let's just say it isn't handicap friendly for getting around. The counter is to the left from the entrance and they have a selection of items on a board behind the counter. A placard by the entrance drew my attention to a lunch special of a cup of soup and a half sandwich. I went with the French Onion Soup and a turkey and swiss on a croissant, though I had my choices of a bagel or bread as well. This is one of those places where you place your order, pay, and then grab a seat after helping yourself to napkins, plastic ware, and filling your drink. (You are expected to bus your own table as well, though I found the dining area clean, so I suspect someone had been watching it.) The soup was served very hot and it came with an assortment of crunchy breads that tasted fresh and had a nice rye taste on most. The only negative was that the cheese that topped the soup was the kind that stretches forever and requires the use of fingers to be able to break the strands. I've had that problem at "fine" restaurants too, where in order to get the soup, you have to figure out how to break through the gooey cheese to get at the goodies underneath. So, I will give them a pass. The sandwich was okay too. A little skimpy on the quantity of meat on the croissant, but the lettuce and tomato were fresh and colorful. However, I suspect the croissant had been made a while before because it had a slightly soggy texture instead of light and buttery. Not bad, but just not anything to rave about. I don't know why people are complaining about the price. I have dined in downtown Indy and had to pay far more, so I suggest the other negative reviewers get out to more real restaurants instead of the chains. I find it ridiculous to think a small independent place should be able to charge the same as a chain restaurant. I found the staff to be pleasant enough, but since they basically just take the order and prepare the food, there isn't much interaction once the food is ready. It was relatively quick and tasted fine. Kind of like I could make at home. This is a great local hot spot! The service is always friendly and the food is great! They have a great bagel and topping selection l, along with great lunch items! My favorite bagel combo is the chocolate chip bagel with peanut butter cream cheese! Lunch is hands down the BLT and the potato soup. My kids love the baked goods as well!! This establishment is in a convenient location, however the staff here are notoriously rude and snobby. I try to support local business, but I have a tough time doing so with this place. If their staff were as friendly as the staff at Starbucks, it would be a no brainer to frequent this place instead. However, I did come here for lunch a few days ago and received easily the most friendly service I've ever had here. If it would have been my first visit it would have given me a great first impression. However, previous experiences keep me from being a regular customer here. read more

Cute place, if not in need of some sprucing up. The little "jungle room" in the back with all the plants and the goldfish pond is fun. The women behind the counter were all very nice and seemed to know how to prioritize, a rarity in locally-owned coffee places. I got a hot chocolate with Red Hots added to it just because it was something I'd never heard of before... it was pretty tasty. However, if you get a bagel, ask for the cream cheese on the side. Very good coffee, the variety of sandwiches and bagels, flexible seating arrangements, outdoor seating, and free wifi make this a great place. There's always a wide variety of coffees and bagels on hand. They have intimate seating, a meeting room, a kid-friendly room with toys, and a room with plants and goldfish. It's a great place to meet a friend for coffee, tea, or lunch; hold a meeting; or sit all day and get work done. The only drawback is they serve drinks and food on styrofoam, but you can get coffee in a mug by request. Free coffee refills are definitely a plus. read more

This restaurant is messed up. I paid 7$ for a styrofoam cup and a "grilled cheese" that was given to me on a styrofoam plate. This so called grilled cheese was clearly made in a panini press. There was nothing grilled about it. I am disgusted and feel extremely robbed of my money. Also the taste of my friends bagel will haunt me forever. Our meal was so unpleasant. I could forgive this cute little bagel shop for serving a less-than-impressive bagel. And, hey, if you're the type of person who expects to get a NYC-style bagel in Richmond, Indiana - or, frankly, if you're the type of person who would hold forth on precisely what constitutes an NYC-style bagel - well, then you deserve all the disappointment you're going to get. But the problematic bagels (long story short: it's just round bread) aren't the only problem... When one factors in the unimpressive quality of the food, the prices here just don't make sense. A "bagel" sandwich with egg and cheese will cost you $4.95. One with meat will be $5.95. I know it's unfair to compare a locally-owned shop to national chains, but an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich at Tim Hortons, Dunkin Donuts, or even Starbucks will typically be in the $2.99 range. And the local bagel shop back in my home town sold their egg 'n cheese breakfast sandwiches for $2.10, for what it's worth. I'm willing - indeed, eager! - to pay a premium for local food at local businesses. Especially in Richmond, I'm actively looking for opportunities to dish out extra dollars to support the local business owners who are contributing so very much to our community. BUT the product I get in return can't make me feel as if I'm getting scammed. We were unimpressed. The breakfast food was overpriced for both the portion size and the quality, and the options were pretty limited.

This used to be my absolute favorite coffee shop in Indiana. My dad and I would stop at least weekly for bagles and coffee. I stopped in with my husband and a couple of our friends, people i consider family, to show off my favorite little gem of Richmond. Now since it had been a couple years i expected some change but we found the place to be as warm and and filled with inviting scents as before however what we did find was the once welcoming atmosphere marred by horribly behaving employees. We waited half an hour for 4 drinks, a hot coco, a chai, a latte, and a mocha. Durring this time the two women complained fiercely about each other and the job its self while firing passive aggressive marks toward eachother and momentary bursts of angry fighting. The brunnet woman snapped at my husband when he ordered a bagel they didnt have anymore of saying "we dont have it since you walked in so close to closing" the blond employee told us no one trained her and shed cried four times that day. When we did get our drinks they were not the quality this establishment once provided, and one was wrong which forced us to wait longer and caused even more arguing over who messed up worse. It was embarrassing and painful to watch as they several times tried to get my friend and i involved in the argument. We eventually had to excuse ourselves. Its such a shame to see this place go to hell in this manner. read more

I wish I could like this place - I do believe in supporting local businesses. I won't go back here, however. The service is slow and mean, and the last food I ordered was strange. I had eaten there a few times before and found the breakfast sandwiches fine but a bit expensive and slow to receive, but I kept going back because it is a local business. The last time i went I ordered a bagel with cream cheese. A lot of times you get bagels that are overly stuffed with cream cheese, so I don't mind when the cream cheese is a little on the light side, but this bagel was so strange. It was cut in half again like a sandwich and had one thin layer of cream cheese on one side of the bagel "sandwich". I went back to the counter and said that I'm happy to pay more for some extra cream cheese but I needed more. I asked if that was how they always served their bagels so I knew to modify my order in the future. They did offer me the cream cheese free, but while they were getting it the two women behind the counter loudly complained about and made fun of a previous customer who had a similar complaint as mine. They said things like "they may serve bagels like that in New York, but you're in Indiana now. This is how we serve bagels." Firstly, no it's not. I have never been served a bagel like that. Secondly, it was so weird and hostile and obviously passive-aggressivly aimed at me. I didn't make a big deal of it or act mean to them. I don't need to spend money where I'm not welcome. read more
