I got a slice of Carmel cake for $4.99 - sounded like a good deal, but the slice was pretty dinky. I also got 5 Buckeyes for $5.99. I really liked the outdoor dining option and the girl strumming acoustic guitar singing outside the book store next door. Three stars for now, but this rating might come up when I get a chance to try their soup.

Unfortunately, our experience on February 17th,2026 was deeply disappointing. My husband entered the restaurant when it was quiet. There was no line, and he had been standing inside looking at the baguettes for a few minutes, by himself. Two staff members came out from the back and did not acknowledge him. A white woman then entered the store and was immediately greeted with "Can I help you?" My husband had clearly been there first. When he calmly questioned whether they intended to skip over him, he was met with defensiveness and told not to speak to the employee's daughter that way -- despite not raising his voice or being disrespectful. Being ignored and then treated as though he had done something wrong for asserting his place in line felt dismissive and uncomfortable. As Black customers, experiences like this are not minor. We value businesses that treat all customers with equal acknowledgment and respect. Unfortunately, this interaction has caused us to reconsider returning. We hope ownership takes this feedback seriously and ensures that all guests are welcomed consistently and fairly.

Emporium Wines & the Underdog Cafe is a cute and cozy charming little shop with lots of wine for sale and some tasty food. There isn't a ton of seating, so we had to share a table with a kind stranger while we enjoyed our iced Americanos and breakfast focaccia. The breakfast focaccia was delicious - it had cheese, chili crisp, and a hard boiled egg inside. We also added some bacon. I really liked this and it was great to split for a light breakfast snack. They also have other breakfast items and lunch food. There are bookshelves full of used books for sale. The space seems very community-forward and I think I'd be a regular here if I lived nearby.

I saw they also sell wrapped grab 'n go sandwiches, drinks and yogurt parfaits. I didn't see a menu, but apparently they have pastries and breakfast sandwiches. They are also a beer & wine shop retail shop. There are several tables both inside and out to sit and read or socialize. It was a really pleasant atmosphere in the middle of the day. They have shelves of used books for $4.99, alphabetical by author. I found one to purchase. I came back with granddaughter for breakfast, but I wished we had gone to a different place, more of a full service breakfast joint. I had a breakfast wrap and a hot coffee. It was pretty good. The staff were okay, not super friendly.

I recently saw a post on Ohio Trips' Facebook page about a charming little bakery tucked away in…read moresouthern Ohio called Four Mile Bakery. As a former chef and someone who creates food videos for my YouTube channel, I'm always searching for hidden diners, cafés, and bakeries that deserve more attention. Supporting local Ohio businesses is something I'm passionate about, so I made the drive to Jackson to see what all the buzz was about. The bakery sits along a quiet country road across from a picturesque farm with goats, horses, and cows, making the drive there part of the experience. When I walked inside, I discovered it's much more than a bakery--it's also a country general store stocked with homemade jams, jellies, sauces, and other locally made goodies. But let's be honest... the real reason for my visit was the doughnuts. Instead of the typical display case, Four Mile Bakery has a doughnut buffet where you put on plastic gloves and pick out your own favorites. It's a fun concept that lets you really take your time looking over all the incredible options. While I was filming, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Shawn. He couldn't have been more welcoming. He shared the story of the bakery, how many of their recipes were developed, and the passion that goes into what they make every day. Then came the highlight of my visit--their signature Wagon Wheel doughnut. This giant glazed doughnut is unlike any I've ever had. Most oversized doughnuts tend to be heavy, bread-like, and dense. Not this one. Somehow they've mastered the art of making it unbelievably light and airy with an almost cotton-candy-like texture. It practically melts in your mouth. It's one of the best doughnuts I've ever eaten. They also offer an impressive variety of doughnuts with all kinds of toppings and flavors, so there's something for everyone. Although they serve lunch items as well, I didn't have enough time to try them on this visit. We picked up several doughnuts along with a few items from the general store, thanked Shawn for his hospitality, and headed home. Four Mile Bakery is exactly the kind of hidden gem I love discovering. Great people, incredible homemade doughnuts, and a beautiful country setting make it well worth the drive. If you're anywhere near Jackson--or even if you're not--make the trip. The Wagon Wheel alone is worth it. P.S. Unfortunately, my camera's microphone decided to quit working during my visit, so most of the footage I captured is without sound. I guess that's just a good excuse to make another trip back to Four Mile Bakery... and somehow I don't think I'll mind having to eat another Wagon Wheel!

The owner was so friendly and told us about his business and history. The donuts are absolutely huge. I also bought some sauces and jams that look great. There is a cute a candle shop next them that a local lady runs. She makes her own candles and wax melts. She was just the cutest, sweetest lady and so very friendly. I HIGHLY recomnend going to both of these locations in Jackson Ohio.

I went in to this new bakery because I really felt I needed to find the perfect cake to celebrate a 60th anniversary for my wonderful in-laws. Springfield has very few options but I had very high hopes that it'd be great and I wouldn't have to go to Beavercreek or wherever to get this special cake. I knew I didn't want to transport a 2 tier cake but needed a cake large enough for 30-40 people. The sample she showed me (below w/ cutting instructions) looked like it was a good choice. One large cake with "Happy 60th Anniversary" written on it. What I got was "Happy 60 Anniversar" Also not very elegant looking writing. I think even I could've possibly done a better job. Our get together was on a Sunday, but the owner of the shop had a bridal shower so I'd have to pick it up Friday, 2 days prior. That was fine so I brought my son so he could carry and hold the cake until I got it home. Luckily we have an extra fridge and it wasn't a problem. He noticed it immediately as well, I really was kind of surprised it looked this way. I hoped it wouldn't be noticeable but it definitely was. Every one immediately noticed the "y" missing and commented "where's the 'y'?" - actually it was covered up with flowers and noticed it also sounded odd, Happy 60 anniversary instead of 60th. The owner didn't point out the covered up "y" and actually when I said 'where's the y'? She made no apology or offered to fix the issue. If this was a $50 Walmart cake I think they would've offered to correct it in some way but $145 cake ( plus 4% service charge-not sure what that's about), I just felt it could've looked more professional. The cake itself was pretty good. It fed the party but in hindsight I probably should've asked for some correction.
