I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and they happen to have happy hour going on. The service was quite slow and there weren't too many people inside. The music was playing very loud and it was hard to have a conversation. The food was pretty good but nothing too special. I would reccomend coming for brunch as they have a lot of options to chose from. The staff was friendly but the service was slow.

They are back there cooking like we're at Grandma or Auntie's house and I LOVE IT! I hosted my birthday brunch here with a small group of my closest friends who traveled in from out of town and EVERYONE enjoyed their meal. The restaurant serves southern brunch classics like fish and grits, fried okra, chicken and waffles, french toast, you name it! Our table enjoyed these things plus an omelet and mimosas. DELICIOUS! Additionally, the staff was friendly and upbeat as were our neighboring guests who made the party even more complete!!! The energy was on 100!!! This is MY PLACE.

YE Gurl Eats: 6 N the Mornin' -- Where the Grits Ain't Got Grit Sometimes you root for a place before you even walk in. Black-owned, breakfast-centric, housed in a historic Cincinnati building with a name that nods to the culture--yes, I wanted to like this. But... there are layers. Let's start from the top. My beau and I snagged two lucky seats at the bar amidst the crowd (which honestly gave me hope). The location? Prime. The building? Beautiful bones. But the interior read sparse and last-minute, like someone poured their entire budget into rent and hoped a coat of paint and a few plastic flowers down the bannisters and behind the bar could stretch and read 'New Orleans'. HOW SWAY? I later found out the owner is from Atlanta, not New Orleans--which maybe explains the mismatch. This wasn't giving "Second Line" or even "low country cozy." It felt like a soft pop-up in a historic shell. From 12:05 to 1:02--that's how long it took for our food to hit the table. I have the photo receipts. While we waited, we had a front-row seat to some... chaos. The staff was visibly overwhelmed, huddling behind the bar, venting about customers in front of customers, and trying to dodge the tense energy of the floor manager. It wasn't just "busy" energy--it was disorganized, and unfortunately, unprofessional. When my food finally arrived--The Lafayette Omelette with cheese grits and a shrimp upcharge ($20)--I was starving, so yes, I ate all of it. But did I enjoy it? Not exactly. The cheese tasted cheap and flavorless, the dish was butter-heavy with no depth, and honestly, nothing on that plate said Nawlins. No seasoning, no soul. The real MVP? The Mimosa ($10). It was giving "at-home brunch with the girls"--not premium bubbles, but refreshing enough to take the edge off my growing hangry. And give me a buzz that equated to some empathy for the event. That's where the good news ends. And look--I get it. It's hard out here for new restaurants. Labor is tricky, training is ongoing, and creating consistency takes time. But when folks are waiting over an hour and your staff is clocked out (mentally, at least), you risk becoming a one-time experience instead of a local favorite. I'm not here to bash. I genuinely wish them growth, structure, and some solid consulting. Just not from me. Not today. Not for free.

I'll start with the good. The salmon croquettes and eggs were good, the cheese grits were very good! The server was very helpful and did a great job. It's a nice amount of space here, but where we were seated was a 2-top with not a lot of room and the waiting area isn't spacious, especially for a place as busy as them. It took a while for the food to come out and when it did, the only thing that was hot between my entree and my friend's entree was my croquettes. Everything else was lukewarm. Pancakes were kind of cold so I couldn't enjoy them but the entree was good. I would come back knowing that I have to set my expectations and show up before I'm hungry since the wait could be a while (even with a reservation).

GET HERE ASAP!!! The food was full of flavor and super filling (large portions)! I make pancakes using cinnamon at home so I was pleasantly surprised when our AMAZING server Mari asked if I wanted cinnamon and powdered sugar! The eggs were done just right and these potatoes were like nothing I've ever had before! The grits are made with cheese and thick and the catfish was full of flavor. I don't even like grits but tried a bite and loved them! I'd happily order my own! Also while we didn't indulge they serve Mimosa Towers!! Please be patient..this is not fast food. They prepare everything to order and fresh so give them some time. I promise it will be worth the wait!! As soon as we walked in we knew this space was not always a restaurant so to Google we went and discovered that it was originally a bank and as we looked around more we got a peek in the kitchen and saw that the vault door is still in tact back there!! They played great music the entire time and the vibe was everything! It was a bonus for us to learn that this was also a black owned business!

Portions are HUGE! Food is delicious & hearty. You will not leave hungry! All the servers were lovely & polite, but it took a while to get a table (even tho we had a reservation) and to get our food took over an hour. Wouldn't recommended for someone on a tighter schedule.

Soft, warm, that deep red color, and just enough crisp on the edges to let you know they didn't rush the batter.

I tried the red velvet waffles at 6 N The Morning, and let me tell you -- they look like they came to impress. Soft, warm, that deep red color, and just enough crisp on the edges to let you know they didn't rush the batter. The flavor hits right away. It's sweet but not overboard, and the texture is legit: that balance between fluffy inside and a little crunch on the outside. My only note? I wish the icing came on the side. The flavor is good, but having it separate would let you control the sweetness and keep the waffle from softening too fast. Give me the choice to dip, drizzle, or drown it depending on the moment. Overall? A solid breakfast move. With the icing on the side, it would've been perfect.

Unique and fun atmosphere. Great place for a cocktail or a delicious bowl of shrimp and grits. Nice happy hour and decent service. Not a bad stop if you are looking for southern home cooking.

Jessica (our server) was amazing, as was the food. Would definitely come here again. Great portions for the price, and the overall environment was a vibe. Perfect stop on our trip before leaving the City.

Finally made it to 6 n the mornin for brunch. When I walked in I was immediately impressed with the decor and historic features of the building. The servers were very nice and attentive however, the wait time for food was much no longer than I anticipated. There were 3 of us and it took an hour to receive our food and it was constantly being blamed on a large party that showed up. My suggestion is if you can't accommodate the others in the restaurant then you should probably not accept parties of 30 people. The food was mediocre. I tried the salmon croquettes which were dry, the bacon was so salty I didn't even finish eating it but the cheese eggs were perfect. I went on a Sunday and I loved the R&B vibes as well. I will give them another try and choose other items on the menu.

The best okra is no match to this. I couldn't even take a picture before these were gone. So good!

I'm going to say, it. Best breakfast place in Cincy. The food is excellent, the music to top tier, and the service was kind, thanks, Nina!

Good diner food and nice service. The shrimp and grits are solid. Casual vibe with high ceilings.

This is a BANGER! Red velvet chicken and waffles, your new best friend.

Me oh my, there's a great new breakfast spot in town. Just stopped in for breakfast with friends, and this place is a winner. New to the neighborhood in an old bank, 6 is serving up Southern-themed and named breakfast delights. Check out the photos of the menu and you'll see what I mean. I first ordered the shrimp and grits, but decided to send it back because while the shrimp were plentiful and the sauce was decadent, the texture of the grits seemed a little off (like a cross between polenta and mashed potatoes). I just couldn't get with it. However... My waitress took ONE look at my face after checking in on the table, realized I was unhappy, and whisked that plate away while promising to bring me something better. DID. SHE. EVER. Y'all ain't ready for that red velvet chicken and waffles. You're just not. When I tell you there's crack in the chicken...there's crack in the chicken. They're in the back seasoning everything, not just the chicken. I'm talkin' 'bout the FLOUR, the OIL, the skillet itself is damn seasoned. And these fluffy waffles?! Chile. With this cream cheese drizzle? Stop. Seriously, the crunch on this chicken is special, and I'm determined to come back just to see what else they can do with a damn chicken. Y'all make chicken feet? I'm down. The owners have taken a dated, gutted-out bank and transformed it into a bright, airy, welcoming restaurant with shotgun-style seating area and a truly lovely bar. There are great little design touches from the front door to the back of the house. Truly, the decor is very mindful, very demure. The staff is young, attractive, and clearly learning how to be/stay professional while at work. I hate going places where employees can't be bothered to stop having private conversations between themselves when there are customers. Not at 6! I walked through the front door and there were 3 servers standing at the hostess stand. As SOON as they saw me, they all stopped talking. Two just smiled and walked away and the third looked me in the eye and welcomed me. The young lady moved with a sense of urgency, one of those we-don't-make-customers-wait kind of urgency, and I was seated within 60 seconds. Great location, great servers, and even better menu options. Seriously, the only reason this place got a 4 and not a 5 is the grits. Every single plate that came from the kitchen LOOKED great, but me knowing what those grits do (or didn't do such as the case may be) was the deciding factor here. If, however, you're a chicken and (red velvet) waffle fiend, this is your new favorite spot. Just trust me.

Our server, Chloe, introduced herself with a smile and provided us with a quick refresher. I knew from her energy that we were going to be in great hands for the evening. (and I was not wrong, lol) Chloe was personable, attentive, friendly, and down to earth. The service she provided us was excellent! I ordered the Swamp Thing for a cocktail. Sweet, fruity, and pretty... that green cocktail did exactly what it needed to do, lol. FIVE STARS! Now, on to the food... The Gator Bites are a MUST. I ordered the hot honey sauce on the side just to play it safe and I am glad I did, because babyyyy, that spice had no boundaries. If you're a lover of spicy things, you'll be good to order as is, lol! I also ordered the Roasted Oysters. Another MUST! The oysters had a parmesan crust with lemon garlic butter drizzled over them... They were gone in minutes! I was on the fence for my entree, but then my girl Chloe clocked that Pasta Mardi Gras and the rest is history. It was creamy, savory, and packed with flavor. I knew my girl wouldn't let me down! Our experience was excellent! I definitely recommend reservations. Pappadeaux wasn't terribly busy when we arrived, but by the time we finished up & headed out, they had a line out the door. If you're in the Cincy area, add to your foodie list! Overall, a great restaurant for a GNO, date night, or any celebration.

The gator bites were tender like chicken and the oysters were so flavorful! For the drink, I had the Swamp Thing cocktail and I was happily buzzed after finishing it. It was sweet, refreshing and the alcohol wasn't overpowering. Highly recommend Pappadeaux's if you're ever in the Cincinnati area!!! Customer Service: Chloe was our waitress and she was knowledgeable, sociable, funny and caring. She did a wonderful job in giving recommendations and telling us about the specials. She checked on us consistently and was never overbearing. The staff was timely with the appetizers, and the ebb and flow of the crowd seemed under control and all waiters/waitresses were ensuring orders were correct. Thank you Chloe for the top-tier service!! Ambiance: Pappadeaux's is typically upscale causal to business casual, but everyone is free to come as they are! It is family friendly for all ages. The decor gives an intimate open dining vibe. When it gets busy, it's BUSY. But the wait will be worth it! I guarantee there is something for everybody. This place is perfect for any occasion, celebration, graduation, birthday, date night, family dinner, a day trip - whatever your heart desires. The Cincy location is the best!

Happy hour has deals on both food and drink (as all good happy hours should) and includes oysters. Overall, prices are super fair because the portions are huge and most things come with a side or two. The jambalaya is worth bringing home if you don't have room and the cornbread is moist even the next day. The best part of the meal was the appetizers. The focaccia felt like it was drenched in olive oil though. I ordered the shrimp lemon pasta and it didn't have any flavor at all. The noodles were over cooked and the pasta had no sauce. It tasted like plain pasta. The trout was a bit salty but cooked well. Over all I feel like we paid a lot for just ok food.

I'm between a 3 and a 4 star here. We have been several times, and it's just a little hit and miss…read more Visited last night during restaurant week. The lobster roll and beef Wellington bites were excellent. The ceasar salad was very average, and my steak, ordered medium rare was fully medium on one side and too rare to eat on the other. The salmon my friends had was much better. Service was ok, Prices, even during a restaurant week feature, were on the higher side. The location is cool enough to bring it from 3 to 4. With rooftop seating, a popular bar and an overall pretty cool vibe, this place could be a 5 star place for me, but it just doesn't deliver as much as it could

For such a nice restaurant and view you would think the service and food would match. We sat down…read moreand our waiter was quiet slow to come and greet us. I know they were busy for restaurant week and I aknowledge that but it took a long time for our food to come as well. The items on the menu we ordered didn't match the description and the presentation felt sloppy. We orderd the soup and not till after we had our first course and probably 20 mins goes by we were told they were out of the soup. Very disappointing and felt like when we ordered they should've let us know. The caesar salad was small and nothing special. The bread for the lobster roll wasn't even toasted. Everything about our meal felt careless. Our main was the NY Strip and the chef feast for two. The NY strip was cooked well but everything was over salted. The chef feast for two was smaller than anticipated. The NY and filet were not cooked well and tough. It did come with two sides, we chose the mac and cheese and french fries. Those were better than the meats. My friend wanted to order dessert and when the waiter came back he said the kitchen was already closed. I think we should've been notified like any other restaruant would for any last calls before kitchen close. Everything about our experience felt unprofessional and sloppy. Shires is an expensive place to dine and certainly was not worth it. We all left still hungry and unsatisfied. The only thing good about here is the view.
