    Mapo tofu

Another new jewel added to the Jersey city restaurant scene. Traditional ambience with excellent flavors ! The best news its BYOB. I ordered the mapo tofu , it tasted amazing , I could take more heat thought, in my next visit I will ask them to make it more spicy .The service was excellent, quick and the staff was able to answer all my questions and also offer recommendations. They did not rush us at all until their next reservation arrived which I really appreciate!

Tasty, authentic Chinese restaurant that seems popular for weekday lunches. There's a variety of lunch specials on the menu for $16, which includes an entree with rice and an egg drop soup. Good options overall for a hot lunch, and service was quick. There's also a promotion for a free side of soup dumplings with over $38 spend, which is a nice addition if you come with a group.

Came here again recently with some work colleagues for lunch. They've expanded the menu dramatically from their soft open and the items on it seem very authentic. The staff is very friendly and for lunch they provided soup dumplings for free when your order exceeds a certain amount. The dumplings were very good! The egg drop soup was also much liked by the entire party. The main courses were also fantastic.

Oh. My. Jebus. I found Shanghainese Pork and Cabbage Noodle Soup on this side of the Hudson. And it's not only good....It's EXCELLENT! Yes, yes, the dish by which all Shanghai restaurants are judged is XLBs. We didn't get them (*horrified gasps*). Instead, we ordered this noodle soup because it is my personal Shanghai culinary litmus test--and 62 SK passed with flying colors! The noodles were kiu kiu, the pork was buttery tender, the mustard greens were delightfully crunchy--and most important of all, the broth was an umami nirvana. I'm going to throw hands: 62 Secret Kitchen's version surpasses Nan Xiang's, Din Tai Fung's and most of NYC's Shanghainese restaurants. It's that good. Everything else we got was stellar too. The Fresh Chicken in Wine Sauce (AKA Drunken Chicken) was tender and succulent. The Shanghai Meatball with Salted Egg Yolk (AKA Lions Head) was perfectly braised, though a tad too sweet for my liking. And the savory Sauteed Blue Crab with Rice Cake was that perfect dish to ward off the lingering early spring evening chill. Throw in the lovely modern yet traditional Chinese decor and friendly, attentive service (despite the place being packed), and you've got what's easily the best Chinese restaurant in downtown Jersey City. 10 years ago, a restaurant like this probably never would've survived in the area. What a difference a decade makes....

This is our second time at this Chinese restaurant, and it's just as good as the first! We ordered 1 whole Peking duck, vegfies, soup dumplings, the scallion pancake -- every single dish was excellent. The duck was crispy and super flavorful, and the sides of wrap, cucumber, and scallion were generous and perfectly balanced. The veggies were cooked al dente, just right, and the soup dumplings were filled with plenty of rich broth. The decor is beautiful -- very authentically Chinese, intimate yet elegant, and family-friendly at the same time. The staff were amazing, and we really enjoyed our meal. Definitely recommend it for families with kids as well as couples. The menu is simple but everything looks so good -- I'd love to try it all!

Pretty decent spot to dine if you are craving chinese food. Their pork soup dumplings were all broken at the bottom due to how thin the skin was but then the top part of the dumpling was so thick and doughy. We also tried their steak and peppers, pretty spicy but solid meal to fill you up. Their pekking duck was soft and tender. They gave a generous amount of wrap and cucumbers with scallion. Sad that their skin pieces were not that crispy so it was super greasy and hard to eat. Would I return? Probably not, but it wasn't bad either.

located in exchange place, Jersey city! As I walked in I was greeted with the beautiful interior decor and staff had us seated right away. I just didn't like how the restaurant was empty when we went but was seated RIGHT next to a woman eating by herself. We ended up getting the scallion pancakes & the blue crab with rice cake. Scallion pancakes were good and crispy but could've used some sauce on the side to dip it in. The blue crab was good but was kinda pricey ($38) and didn't have much rice cake which was disappointing /: lovely Chinese cuisine spot overall though serving authentic Chinese dishes. Would recommend if you're craving Chinese food for sure

Hello again, I'm gonna keep it short but it was ok at best. Service was non existed. Not once did the server ask us how everything was and I took offense to that. We're spending our money in your establishment and couldn't get "is everything ok." We won't be going back here.

Solid Chinese spot. It wasnt as spicy as we thought. We thoroughly enjoyed the dumplings, egg sausage rice and kungpao chicken (could have been spicier). Service was super fast

SO GOOD. 62 Secret Kitchen seriously delivers on every level. The Peking duck was absolute fire - crispy, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. General Tso's chicken was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat and sweetness, and the beef udon? Totally addictive. Every dish we tried was a hit. Service was just as impressive. I dropped a chopstick and before I could even say a word, the server was already handing me a new pair - it's that kind of thoughtful, attentive service that really stands out. Without a doubt, this is the best Chinese food I've had in the area.

Very authentic Chinese food!!! The dinnerware and the decor were also like restaurants in China. Service was friendly.

A nice cozy neighborhood spot. Some of the chef specials had to be pre-ordered, but we got to try the golden yolk chicken wings without ordering in advance. We enjoyed everything we ordered, and they have a variety of both authentic and Chinese-American dishes on the menu.

The dishes are very unique in cultural sourcing - it's not what you expect of a regular Chinese restaurant. The servings are HUGE and good for 2 servings. The ambiance is not that great even though there's a big space and there was a lot of junk sitting around the place like extra stock of drinks and boxes all over the place. I don't think people really eat-in here. When I did takeout, it was still not worth the price of other similar restaurants in the area. Also this place doesn't have combinations sold together -- you have to buy rice on the side for EVERY dish which is not a traditional way to serve each dish in general. The prices here are not worth trying it - way overpriced and overcharged! Should be more affordable since we do not get the rice with the combination plates.

A Decade of Love on a Plate: A Local Favorite That Punches Above Its Weight…read more This place is the definition of a neighborhood gem--the kind you almost want to keep secret, yet can't stop yourself from praising. Cheap and cheerful on the surface, it punches way above its weight class, delivering inventive, clean, Asian-inspired food that's masterfully cooked by clearly skilled hands--and made with real love. I've been coming back year after year for most of this restaurant's 10-year lifespan, and that consistency is no accident. Every dish tastes intentional, thoughtful, and deeply satisfying, with a clear goal: to feed people love on a plate. It's a super veggie/vegan friendly that easily wins over even my "meat and potatoes" husband--who happily cleans his plate every time. In an era where genuine hospitality feels increasingly rare, Perry single-handedly restored my faith that quality service is not extinct. Warm, attentive, and authentically kind, Perry makes every guest feel seen, welcome, and cared for--without pretense or attitude. This is food that nourishes, service that uplifts, and a place that keeps you coming back not just for the flavors, but for how it makes you feel. A true neighborhood treasure.

I've seen this restaurant circling my YELP for the last few months and put it on my "want to try"…read morelist. This place is absolutely solid! If you're looking for good flavorful food options, this has got to be on your "must try" list, I genuinely do not think you'll be disappointed. I ordered the blueberry lemon iced tea, maitake mushroom medley with the option of udon noodles & added chicken, the coconut curry with the option of ramen noodles and the rice pudding with caramel sauce for dessert. First things first, my absolute FAVORITE thing about this restaurant is the food contains no GMO's no preservatives, pink Himalayan salt to season and NO REFINED sugars- only agave and palm sugar to sweeten. I WISH I would've known about this spot sooner JUST for that detail alone. I am always on the hunt for a place that offers refined sugar free options, and with that comes this level of safety knowing what I am consuming has a heath standard/holistic approach to meet and me not having to feel guilty or worrisome after a meal. Absolute 10/10 in that aspect. I saw a few reviews mention the blueberry lemon iced tea, as someone not even a fan of lemonade I decided to give it a try. Let's just say, I was slow sipping my drinks to not finish it all and avoid getting another in the same sitting lol. It's well balanced, not sour, blueberry flavor is present and knowing it's sweetened with agave led to guilt free pleasure. Would recommend everyone to try it, even if you're not a fan of lemonade like I am. Another mention, lemonade tends to make my throat dry, due to its sourness and tanginess and that didn't happen at all. Think the blueberry was more prominent than the lemon, it was really enjoyable. The curry ramen was a highlight! If your a fan of curry, I think you def have got to try this. I actually didn't get it (my partner did) because I didn't wanna be let down, but it was absolutely delicious. I got the maitake medley udon noddles with added chicken and what a blast of flavor. It had veggies, mushrooms, chicken, udon, eggs, kimchi and was extremely flavorful. I was very surprised that each element of the dish had its own flavor and spice that really jumped out, but paired well together. The least favorite thing for me on this platter was the eggs. Just your standard egg, I'm a fan of soy-marinated eggs on my noodles and not a fan of regular boiled eggs, but they are always an added protein plus! One honorary note, is the kimchi. I like kimchi, don't love it, but this was the best kimchi I have ever had. I even ordered a side to go. Another cool thing is the food is cooked fresh, right in front of you. Tbh, we were the only ones in there at 6 PM and food took quite a while, but I appreciate and prefer freshness over quickness always. The rice pudding is light and the homemade refunded sugar-free caramel addition makes it so much better. As there were only two options of dessert on the menu (rice pudding & matcha ice cream) I decided to give it a go although I'm not really a fan of rice pudding. Was it amazing? No. Would I get it again? Possibly. This place was on the pricier side I would say. My bowl of maitake mushroom w/chicken (added chicken being a $6.50 dollar up charge) was $34. Worth it for that price point? Not really, but good none the less. I also ordered a small side of kimchi (the small clear containers) and that was $7 which I think is crazy, but also it was good. For a better price point, I might've asked for a jar lol. Customer service- the workers were nice, but not really personable, which I don't really care for much, but bringing this up because there was this sense that maybe I shouldn't be in there or they just possibly didn't want to work. I tipped nonetheless, but for being the only couple or people in there I thought we would be greeted by everyone, just a simple acknowledgement, but it felt more like we were bothering them by walking in. I understand that people have their days and you have no clue what someone is going through personally, but it was distinct enough to mention- especially as someone who never really comments on the customer service aspect. I see through it cuz the food was great! Something about it was also just a let down, but I can't put my finger on it. Although it was good, I don't see myself frequenting this place. Maybe the price point is deterring me, but I do think it's worth a try!
