There are 3 big projects for which we contracted with Zarco Landscaping, because they continually performed above and beyond on the work. The first project was for a room that would flood when it rains. The team at Zarco quickly diagnosed the problem as poor gutter placement and cracks in concrete on the floor above, and they worked rapidly to connect a new sewer system and rebuild our concrete walkway. There has been no more flooding. The second project was to improve the terrain and usability of our backyard, which is on a hill that was very difficult to navigate. The Zarco team completely transformed the area, building stone steps and leveling the land with premium soil, mulch, and stone. Please see the attached photos (we wish we had before pictures, but it was all dirt and invasive plants before on a steep incline)! Lastly, our third project had to be done rapidly after the recent storms in the bay area. We needed three very large and dead trees removed that were at risk of falling on our house or the street. The Zarco team came the next day to remove all of the trees. Overall, the Zarco team has always delivered amazing service and treated us with respect. The prices are also very reasonable and competitive with quotes we received from other businesses. If you live in San Mateo or the Bay Area, we strongly recommend calling Zarco Landscaping for all of your outdoor needs!

Especially after a rainy winter, our yard looks like a jungle. So there is a lot to do to get everything cut, cleaned up and ready for spring. I am super happy with what Jose and his team does. From trimming trees to weeding flowerbeds to checking the irrigation system and even removing some dead trees, they are doing a terrific job! I would not recommend this company. I had a small above-ground leak in my irrigation pipe, and the…read moretechnician spent more than three hours trying different fixes but was unable to repair it. He said the issue was due to pipe pressure. Without my knowledge he turned off the water main, and said it is fixed. I paid him 125. When I turned the water back on, the leak was actually worse than before. I called the company, and they offered to send the same technician back later that evening, but at that point I had no confidence that he could fix the problem. I ended up calling another company and paying $175. Their technician fixed the issue in about 15 minutes and did an excellent job. My experience is similar to another reviewer, Bardi. This company may seem affordable at first, but based on my experience, they lacked the skill and knowledge needed for a basic irrigation pipe repair. I would not hire them again.

We hired Jorge for a full backyard overhaul: removing bamboo and lawn on two levels, installing…read moregopher wire mesh, replacing soil, planting 25 ground plants, and replacing our pop-up sprinkler system with drip irrigation throughout. Leading up to and during the project he was responsive and communicative. When he told us the work was complete, we paid in full -- only to discover afterward that an entire section of irrigation had been left out, despite being explicitly included in our written agreement. When we raised this, he suggested we had been unclear, but we had the itemized scope in writing. He said he would come fix it, and over the following two-plus months, we scheduled at least five appointments to have it finished. Each time, he either didn't show, sent a substitute without notice, or confirmed and then cancelled same-day. His responsiveness -- so reliable before payment -- dropped off entirely. He has since stopped responding altogether. In the process, other issues surfaced. The gopher wire was left too close to the surface, leaving sharp exposed edges near plants -- making that area unsafe to walk through -- and it hasn't effectively deterred gophers, who are still reaching plants and roots through gaps at the top. On multiple visits, despite telling us that he was coming, he sent different workers; they never addressed the outstanding issues and only weeded. On one visit, newly sprouted seedlings we had specifically pointed out not to pull, were pulled. His offer of a warranty was a factor in choosing him over other landscapers -- but he has not returned to finish the incomplete work or address any of the issues above so I'm not sure how his "warranty" even works. We'd strongly recommend inspecting all work thoroughly before making any payment, and getting any commitments -- including warranty terms -- in writing.
