I know everyone is busy but sometimes they just need to be better at responding to quotes. From the consultation right to the very end Angel got back to me within minutes via text. I'm baffled by all these good reviews here. My experience with this company and their performance was very disappointing and Luis is not trustworthy. I hired them to install artificial turf, replace some flagstone and some other work in my backyard in July 2019. Artificial Turf - the quality of the work they have done was poor. For the artificial grass, as you can see in the photos, they made the patchy job - I understand the original material doesn't cover the whole width. However, the way they put the extension is that they used two small pieces instead of one piece for the whole length (even though apparently the original material had the whole length), and also they didn't match the direction of the furs for the extended portion. The results is what you see in the photos. Expensive work (cost me a lot) resulting in cheap & non-professional work. Flagstone - as you can see in the photos, the replacement flagstone doesn't match the existing ones. I asked them to bring the matching flagstone. But when they brought the piece, I noticed right away that it looked different. I mentioned that to Luis and he said it's only because the existing ones are dirty, and assured it is the same stone. Well, his lie (or he doesn't know types of flagstones) is shown in the photo. The stone he installed is more of a manufactured stone with lots of pores and not real stone as the existing ones. I contacted him with these photos multiple times but he never returned my calls or text. Some Remaining Work - The entire work included washing the stones and some miscellaneous work too. I was considering holding off the washing due to the potential San Mateo Sewer project interference, but as soon as I learned about the project schedule and scope of work, I saw there was no reason to delay it. So I asked Luis to complete the job all at the same time as other work. But somehow he insisted to wait till the sewer project is done, and he would comeback later. However, he asked for the full payment for the entire scope of work including the remaining work. I trusted him and paid the entire job even though not all work was done. Guess what, I have been calling him for one year, and he never responded. He's been just ignoring my calls and text. I hear a lot of people talking about disappearing small contractors after hack jobs, taking money, etc. I believe though those are the small number of bad apples and most of small contractors are honest, professional and do a good job. What I don't get is all the good reviews about Moonraised and Luis here. In my book, he is definitely in the "AVOID" list. It will cost me a lot to fix all the hack job he did. read more

We absolutely love our new backyard!!! We are very pleased with the work Luis and his team at Moonraised Landscape did in renovating our backyard! In fact, we will soon be having them do another project in our front planting area which is about as strong of an endorsement as we can make. Our project was small in area but to realize the design it involved 1) demolition of some fairly thick concrete and leveling of the area and installing flagstone, 2) construction of some tricky custom arbor elements, stairs and fencing, 3) fabrication and installation of a custom metal handrail, 4) installation of low voltage uplights with timer, 5) installation of timed drip irrigation system, 6) installation of a water feature, and 7) planting of the entire area. So while the area was small ( ~300 sq ft) it involved most of the elements any landscaping would require and they did a strong job in all areas. Luis was wonderful to work with and an excellent communicator! He was very accommodating of change orders and modifications as we went along. He was always pleasant to deal with and soon had our trust. He also worked very well and closely with our designer and they came up with suggestions and sourcing ideas that made for a much better outcome. We love our new backyard and it is now a much more inviting and usable space. lastly, the garden is absolutely gorgeous at night with all the uploading. The many positive reviews had me thinking they would have been a good choice so I attempted to hire them. In the end it was a waste of my time and delayed our project starting. Luis scheduled an 8am meeting at my home. Around 8.15 got a text "running late" - no eta. Arrived closer to 8.40, no apology or acknowledgment of running late. I showed him our yard and was told I would receive a bid that night. I didn't receive a bid that night. I contacted him the next day and didn't get a reply. I then called the evening of day 3 and was told I'd get the bid that night. One again I received nothing. Sent a text on day 4 and....no reply. After talking to a couple of other landscapers, we decided to work with Moonraised Landscaping to redo our backyard. Luis offered us a competitive and fair price, and he worked *fast*. When we told another landscaper what we wanted to do, he said it might take him 3 or 4 months to complete. Luis and his team finished in around 10 days. Luis took an empty backyard with mostly dead grass and weeds, and turned it into a backyard where we love to spend time. First, he installed a kickass bocce ball court (he was the only landscaper we talked to who had experience doing bocce ball courts, and I'm sure it will become a specialty of Moonraised Landscaping). Next, he created a space for a firepit and chairs. Finally, he installed raised flower beds/planters in a nice pattern that we enjoy. He also covered the entire lawn with gopher wire and anti-weed netting. We were on the fence about installing new sod or putting down mulch, but we ultimately decided to cover the empty spots in mulch to cut down on the watering and mowing. We are very pleased with our new, low-maintenance backyard! I would recommend Luis and Moonraised to anyone because they show up on time and complete the work quickly, charge reasonable rates, and can give you good and creative advice about how to make your lawn look great! read more

First, they scheduled a Sunday, June 10, 8 am consultation with me to do some work for my front yard. No one showed up. I mentioned this to Luis (the owner?) via Yelp messaging, and he apologized, saying he was double booked (though why he didn't bother to tell me he couldn't make it, I don't know -- he didn't even contact me until I brought up that he missed our appointment). Then we rescheduled for Saturday, June 19, at 9 am. Again, no one showed up. I woke up early both weekend days to meet these guys and no one came. No calls. No messages. Literally nothing.
