Great service at the bar! Conveniently located in the hotel we were staying in this past weekend. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. He knows how to make great drinks. Checking in on yelp comes with a 20% off food reward, or so we thought. When we attempted to redeem this coupon at breakfast the next day, the server said she never saw it before. She went to get a manager who said that it has nothing to do with them and we would have to check with the hotel to redeem the coupon. We didn't bother fighting them on the issue but why have a deal on your Yelp page if it won't be honored?! Oh well. There is plenty of seating and great people watching. read more

Overall, I would recommend this restaurant. My entree was amazing. I got the beef short rib with mashed potatoes and veggies. The short rib was very tender. It definitely lacked seasoning though. I also got the flourless chocolate cake. I assumed the cake would be fluffy and airy. It was very hard and seemed frozen. I also got a glass of Rutherford Merlot. It was very delicious and the waitress gave me a heavy pour. The service was phenomenal. My waitress was so nice and attentive. I stayed at the hotel and had the breakfast buffet twice. The staff made it easy to pay so I could get to my 8am meetings. Coffee was good. One night I ate dinner. I had the Caesar salad with chicken ( chicken was for my service dog- she loved it). My entree was the short ribs. Excellent though a little fatty. I liked the flavor. The grilled veggies were great- not just an afterthought. Flourless chocolate cake was perfect-- the way it's supposed to be. Double Espresso was very good--I'm very fussy about my espresso. If I ever come back to Fairfax-- I'll return to this much better than average hotel restaurant--also not very expensive. Server-Lorena was great. Ambience: there was a large crowd of extremely noisy 30 something's: each trying to yell louder than the last person. Called 4x from three different phones to place takeout order for breakfast this morning. Despite clearly being open in the hotel lobby, despite this clearly being within posted hours on their own website, despite being the only restaurant in the hotel itself, they did not bother to answer the phone 4x . When we called the hotel front desk, the hotel was quick to volunteer that the hotel has no room service. This restaurant was connected to the hotel we were staying at and coincidently, I located this restaurant separately from the hotel on Yelp so I was very pleased to find out it was in the lobby of the wonderful hotel that we were staying at. Let's get into it. 1 Hours of real operation aren't the same as hours advertised. 2 We arrive for brunch & it took them forever to seat us and even longer it's a help us. Tucked away in the Marriott hotel, the 703 bar and kitchen provided excellent meals and service while I was there. Rain and long hours kept me eating in for a couple of nights. Many of the menu items use local ingredients and the bar has multiple local craft beers. I enjoyed the Pork Oslo the most. Be prepared to order multiple plates for dinner since many of the plates are on the small side. Breakfast was the least imaginative meal of all the meals I had but there were still local foods on the buffet. read more

Picked 703 bar + kitchen for Restaurant Week 2018 because my friend didn't want to drive out to DC. Came here last night (solid 3.5/5), and even though our meal was just decent, the service was spectacular (thank you to the multiple waiters/waitresses that helped us)! We made reservations for 7:30pm and was immediately seated when we walked in (the place was half full- plenty of tables). Since we were here for Restaurant Week we were able to choose 3 small plates + ice-cream/sorbet for $35. I'm going to be frank I would have been more upset if I had paid full price for my meal. For $35 it wasn't bad, but most of the dishes we ordered were $18/piece. Just getting 2 small plates would've been $40. We ended up ordering the Grilled Smoked Peaches (4/5), Handmade Tagliatelle (3/5 the taste was great but way too salty), She-Crab Mac & Cheese (3/5 just not flavorful enough- a bit bland but could've been bland because the Tagliatelle was so salty), Chesapeake Bay Striped Bass (4/5 tasty, cooked well), Butter Roasted Scallops (5/5 favorite dish out of everything we ordered), and the Smoked Beef Short Rib (3/5 overcooked/hard to cut). For dessert we chose the Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip and Wild Blueberry flavors (both delicious). I don't think I will come back because the prices are pretty high for the amount of food you get. However, Restaurant Week is a great deal to try their menu out. The interior is very nice/spacious and would be a great place to grab a couple of drinks after work. read more

This place is interesting because I have never really seen this place pop up in my searches until now. Some good things are that with our check in on yelp, we received a 20% discount on our food. That's a win in itself. It's located on the first floor of the Marriot hotel right by Fair Oaks mall. The food was surprisingly good here. They serve small plates as shown in the pictures I've included. But the big ticket item is the burger! If you like 5 Guys style burgers, this is very similar but better in my opinion. Plus it comes with fries that are also really good. If you're looking for a different spot to check out, don't forget about some of the restaurants and bars that are hidden in nearby hotels. This place may be kind of tricky to find at first, but if you can find the Marriott hotel right outside of Fair Oaks mall you'll be able to find 703 bar + kitchen. (It's inside the hotel) My girlfriend, parents, and I had dinner here one night. Our waiter Dominique (according to the receipt) was very helpful and pretty friendly. He was able to answer every question we had about the food there. We were there just in time for happy hour, so we ended up ordering a lot of food. Good thing too, because the portion sizes are fairly small. Let's start off with the chicken wings. For $9 you get 3 pieces. Although the chicken was fantastic, the $3/1 wasn't too appealing. The chicken was coated in a sauce I can't quite remember, but I do remember it giving the chicken a great taste. The tator tots were so delicious that we ended up getting three orders of them! Again, the portion was a bit small, but the fact they were half off for happy hour made it enjoyable. For my main course, I ordered the country fried steak. While I was expecting a big slab of fried steak like what you would find at an IHOP or elsewhere, this place served what would've been a 1/3 or so of that. But, looks can be deceiving. Despite it being 1/3 the size I was expecting, it was a 9/10 in taste. It definitely tasted better than the bigger steaks! I think what made it so delicious was that the steak was drenched in the gravy. Also, the meat was of a higher grade than most country fried steaks. For dessert, we had a bread puddling and a brownie with vanilla ice cream. Both were fantastic and definitely good enough to quench a sugar craving. For my meal, I had the Spice Crusted Cobia and the Yohanan Farm Chicken Breast. My favorite dish was the chicken. The chicken was moist and tender and paired very well with the intricately placed baby corn and mushrooms. The sauce the chicken sat in was absolutely delicious and tied the entire dish together. I've been here about four or five times so far, and each time I've had a great experience! The first time I was here, it was for restaurant week, and had an absolutely wonderful meal. My server was on point, so much that I honestly wished he was at every single restaurant I go to. The food was on point - we were wondering about one of our dishes and the sous chef came out himself to describe how the dish was cooked. Fantastic service! The other times before today were for drinks. Each time, Erin, the restaurant manager, helped us and she has become my favorite person to go for drinks. She's extremely knowledgeable about cocktails and her service is impeccable. Definitely can see that she trains her staff very well. Today we stopped by for Valentines Day and was met once again by Erin. She seemed a bit short staffed but that didn't deter her from providing her usual amazing service. Well I dont care.... 703 food is actually pretty good and priced well... not overly expensive as you would expect from other hotel restaurants. Key things to know here..... 1- staff is super friendly 2- parking is always plentiful 3- bathrooms are always clean 4- food is good 5- atmosphere is casual... come as you are! lol I might even walk in in a robe one day .. of course with clothes underneath lol 6- always good conversations with staff and hotel guest so enough of that and on top the food .... The menu changes with the season so expect new items once in a while.. their core menu is filled with different food options that will satisfy the meat eaters to the plant eaters so you can have a decent dinner for all. Menu prices range from $3 - $19 and consists of small plates to full on entrees. Sp what to get from here when you are here??? go with the mac and cheese with the short rib and add a crabcake you will not regret it! its my version of a surf and turf mac and cheese lol so awesome and affordable. You can add a crabcake for $6 to any order and its delicious... Happy Hour is from 4pm - 7pm. It's mostly small plates to order. However, I thought my meal was the perfect size. From the beautiful, proper greeter who beamed when she seated us to Dominique, our amazing server, to Allison, the manager (?) who stopped by twice to make sure we were taken care of, this little bar is a bastion of Southern hospitality and charm. I came into 703 a few months back. I order a few small plates which where okay. I ordered these fried pork belly which was not good. The second snack where these ham sandwiches that hit the spot. I sent the pork belly back and ordered more of the little sandwiches. The food I give three stars. I Enjoyed my whiskey flights. I give them four stars for that . The Service was okay . It seemed like they had a new staff. I think if your in the area and want a nice place to go and have a drink while the wife is shopping this is the place to go! If it weren't for Yelp, I really doubt that I would have ever known about this restaurant. When it caught my eye, right away I noticed that it was getting good reviews right from the beginning---and has since consistently been getting them. Our meal today confirmed to us that those good reviews are warranted. As others pointed out, this restaurant is in the Fairfax Marriott at Fair Oaks. When entering via the main hotel entrance, this restaurant is immediately to your left. Just note that there is no sign anywhere telling you their name. In fact, it was confusing because sometimes hotels can have more than one restaurant. We ended up asking at the front desk and the desk clerk not only told us that it was the restaurant but walked us over there. Not only that but she waited until we were greeted. We were greeted by Julio, who turned out to also be our server. He was very friendly, polite and knowledgeable about the menu, as he was able to answer all our questions. We started with drinks. My husband had a BLT Bloody Mary, which is described this way on the menu: "Pinnacle bacon vodka, spicy housemade Bloody Mary mix, bacon, lettuce". There was a slice of bacon in the drink. However, there was no lettuce but instead 2 green olives on a skewer. We both noticed that the drink was the color of cranberry juice but my husband said it was definitely tomato juice. He enjoyed his drink and said that it wasn't overly spicy. I tried "the orange line". This drink consists of: "Johnnie Walker black, orange infused Earl Grey tea, lemonade". I have to say that this drink was my least favorite part of the meal as the Johnnie Walker overtook the whole thing. For a starter, we had the heirloom tomato salad, which consists of, in addition to yellow tomatoes, "buffalo mozzarella, basil, balsamic" plus some micro greens. We both enjoyed this. The tomatoes were meaty, although good, not quite as good as tomatoes in season. The mozzarella was creamy. We could taste the basil and it was in the right proportion as it complimented rather that take over the salad. For my main course, I had Seared sea bass. This dish is described as such: "lobster mac & cheese, broccolini, roasted tomato cream". Before ordering it, I asked Julio what kind of cheese was in the mac & cheese. He said it was mild cheddar---and he was right. The mac & cheese was tasty as the cheese didn't overpower the generous amount of lobster. The broccolini was tender crisp and lightly dressed with a butter based sauce. The sea bass was tasty and the tomato cream sauce added a touch of sweetness to it. There was a minor problem---I found a bone in the sea bass. When Julio came around to ask how things were, I pointed out the bone and asked him if the fish was filleted in house or did it come to the restaurant already filleted. He told me it was the latter and I let him know that I didn't blame the kitchen. Still, he took the bone back to the kitchen and apologized. Within minutes, the manager came to our table. She apologized and said dessert was on the house. That was a very nice touch! My husband ordered Cedar plank salmon, which also comes with: "seasonal vegetables (the veggie was broccolini), fingerling potatoes (actually, sliced and roasted potatoes), pommery veloute (which was a mustard based sauce). I tasted the potatoes and we both agreed that they were well prepared. Sometimes roasted potatoes can be dried out---that was not the case here. Even though the salmon was well-done, my husband said that it was still very moist. He liked the sauce and said that the mustard flavor wasn't too strong and it went well with the salmon. For dessert, they seem to have taken a page from Seasons 52 as they also have dessert shooters. I chose a tiramisu one while my husband chose key lime. Both had good flavor and were a nice way to end our meal. Before the tip, dinner cost $79 + change. It is possible to eat more cheaply here as they do offer up burgers, salads. sandwiches and flatbreads. We were impressed with our meal and the service. It's nice to have a place to eat in the Fair Oaks area that isn't a chain restaurant! Plus it's extra nice to find such a good restaurant in a hotel! All three of us ordered pints of a local IPA - "Freedom Isn't Free" IPA (Heritage Brewing Co., Manassas, VA), a bowl of the Crab and Corn chowder, and I ordered a crab cake sandwich - sans the bun - but kept the side order of fries with it. The Freedom Isn't Free IPA is a potent and strong IPA - not for the faint of tastebud - it's very hoppy and has a major bitter finish to it. But I like IPA's like that and am glad to see a local craft brew amongst their on-tap offerings. The Chowder was tasty - thick and filling. We asked for freshly cracked Black pepper. Our server checked and returned with the message that they have appeared to have lost their pepper grinder. So we were reduced to the pre-ground black pepper. The crab cake was rather ordinary and on the bland side - it could have used some flavor - salt, Old Bay, garlic, (something), but the fries were hot, crisp, and cooked perfectly. Our server was very efficient and keep on top of things. The ambiance is modern, clean, and relaxed. A number of folks were hanging out watching Monday Night Football. We came here on a Wednesday night and we were seated right away. We made reservations but there was plenty of seating. We ordered the broccoli salad, crispy Brussel sprouts, corn bread, pork belly, flank steak, and chocolate pie for dessert. They provided us free biscuits with butter and apple butter as an appetizer. It was good. The food took a while to come out. I was surprised. There were a good amount of people eating there the night we went. The broccoli salad was okay. I don't think we will order it again. There was not a lot of flavor to it. It tasted like mayo. However, the crispy brussel sprouts were delicious. It had a bit of a kick to it and it was full of flavor. The corn bread was good. I do wish that it could have been more moist but other than that it was good. The presentation of the pork belly was so beautiful. It tasted great too. I ordered the flank steak and I really enjoyed it. I did need a bottle of A1 to go with it though. It added additional flavor. The tomatoes were so flavorful. Yum. For dessert, we had the chocolate pie and it was a good enough portion size to share. It was very creamy and chocolaty. It was a great end to the meal. The atmosphere was very nice and trendy. STEER CLEAR! 703 has been on my radar for quite the while and I finally bit the bullet during restaurant week. With 4 stars to its name I expected to have an enjoyable evening. Let it be known: the bullet won. 703 is located in the Marriot at Fair Oaks. My girlfriend and I walked to an empty host stand and waited for about 5 minutes before a server came to seat us. It's late on a Sunday and these servers are probably dying to go home so I let it slide. Ambience: the restaurant has no distinguishing features to separate itself from the hotel. There is no change in lighting, music, and barely a sign displayed. Sterile decor and atmosphere but we're here for the food so again we let it slide. Our server welcomes us, gave us a few recommendations, and takes our order. Pretty standard, nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about. Now for the the most important but sadly worst part, the food. For restaurant week you can choose 3 small plates for 35. We choose the lobster risotto, jambalaya, salmon, crabcake, and 2 striploin steaks. When you think of jambalaya you imagine a flavor bomb. Well this bomb was a dud. Cavatappi noodles (spiral tube shaped) served with a basic cream sauce with shrimp, sausage ,and chicken is all you'll get. The shrimp and sausage were cooked well but everything lacked flavor. The sauced barely dressed the noodles and tasted of just thickened cream. The chicken was slightly overcooked but not the worst part of the dish. The lobster risotto tasted of butter and only butter. In fact there were a few good pools of butter in the dish to accompany the taste. The rice was undercooked as well but we didn't send it back because not even a perfectly cooked risotto would fix the lack of flavor. "Salmon over sticky rice was merely a seared plain salmon fillet over plain rice. The skin was seared nicely I'll give them that. The crabcake was edible at best but was all filler crab meat, not a lump in sight. It was served over broccolini which was the best part of the night. The broccolini was grilled and had salt and butter. Should I even be congratulating them on that? We finished the meal with two striploins steak cooked to medium rare. They served it pre sliced which was odd by me. Upon first bite I knew this was going to take 30 more. Tough unseasoned steak accompanied by the second best thing I ate that night was steamed asparagus. We finished the jambalaya because we were starving but left every dish with just a few bites missing besides the asparagus and broccoilini. The server stopped by our table twice after taking the order, not once asking how we were enjoying the food even though we left most of it on the table. He brought us boxes, ran the credit card, and that was the end of our interaction with our server. The chef came out and asked how we were enjoying our food as our first dishes came out but as we haven't taken a bite yet we said we were doing well. We could've voiced our concerns while we were there but sadly the food and service was so dismal that there wasn't a chance we'd give ourselves the possibility to be disappointed twice. We are in town for my husband's high school reunion. We moved away from the DMV 4 years ago and miss authentic crab cakes with Maryland blue crabs. Chef made us the BEST crab cakes we have ever eaten. They were full of crab meat, soft on the inside, perfectly crispy on the outside. The tartar sauce was flavorful and complimentary. The fries were hot and fresh, the outside had a snappy crunch while the inside was soft and tasty. Beautiful green asparagus spears were cooked perfectly and lightly seasoned. I arrived with a OpenTable reservation after regular business hours and there were no host available so I sat myself at the bar. Tony G was the bartender and I had asked where could I check in for my reservations and I was hit with a confused look, along with a response "I'm just the bartender" but he was able to go to back and check with another staff and make sure I got my points. The service was attentive but it stopped after I received my meal. I order the jambalaya which was recommended and it turned out to be watered down wrongly used noodles. After it was brought out from the kitchen Luke-warm, no one bothered to ask how was everything but was only available to close out my tab. Nice weather like yesterday deserves a nice dinner indoors with a/c! This place is literally a hidden gem. It's located inside the Marriott hotel @ Fair Oaks mall. Beautiful interior design and friendly staff. They don't have a separate happy hour menu, but I think their appetizers are $2 off between 3pm-7pm..? Oh and their house wine are just $5! Plus, when you check in on Yelp, they take 20% off your bill for non-alcoholic items. :) We ordered: couples glasses of house cabernet and merlot, crab & artichoke dip, kale salad, tenderloin, and 703 burger. Everything we ordered tasted fabulous! For the dip, it's served with some pita bread with sprinkles of old bay. It did make it a bit salty, but it balanced out with the crab & artichoke dip. Kale salad... tasted very healthy haha. Yes it was expectedly bitter but sweet after taste from the dates. Tenderloin was amazing. When they bring this out, there's a herb butter on top and it's just so delicious! I'm so glad this item stayed on the menu during their seasonal menu change! 703 burger was served loaded. It was a well made burger for sure. Juicy meat, sweet tomatoes, fresh veggies, and ginormous! Located next to the Fair Oaks Mall in the Marriott Hotel the 703 bar + kitchen prides itself on using Northern Virginia seafood, produce, dairy and microbreweries. My wife and I we're looking to try something new without having to drive all the way into DC. I noticed this place on yelp, so we decided to give it a try. All things considered we were not disappointed. To start we ordered the 703 cutting board which had locally cured meat, artisan cheese and two large pieces of toasted bread. It was one of the charcuterie boards we've had in a while. Accompanying our charcuterie board we had the warm Crab rolls. Not the best We've ever had but pretty darn close. Additionally, my wife had the green bean salad with chicken. It was incredibly tasty. Finally for dessert I had the brownie ice cream sundae. Coming from Firehook I knew it was going to be really good and it was. The service was good, but not great. Our waiter seemed like she was extremely overwhelmed and scatterbrained at times, but she got all our orders right and to us quickly. The price for the lunch was not bad. Had we got the same food in DC it would have been $20-30 more. Since I checked in at the restaurant on yelp I was able get 20% off my bill which knocked off almost $12. In closing we were pleasantly surprised with this place all around. I will definitely be back in the near future. read more

Came here with my wife tonight for dinner. This place did not disappoint. The food was absolutely outstanding as well as the service. We had the 72 hour short rib and the chicken and waffles. The chef came and brought us the brisket egg rolls and they were amazing. The bourbon list at this restaurant is 4 pages long and they have a selection you don't find just anywhere. I had high hopes for this place but I was so disappointed. The food was okay, portions were small and overpriced, I was a pescatarian for over a decade and know how salmon should taste but the salmon here was the one of the worst I've had. My friends said that their dishes were just "alright." Drinks were good, would come back to grab a drink. The reason I'm giving this place some stars is because of the dessert. I attached a photo of it below because I forgot what it was called but it was unbelievably good. I would come back to order five of these. read more

I'm surprised I haven't discovered this place sooner. It's hidden inside the Marriott at Fair Oaks and I'm amazed this is inside a hotel! It's not super busy so we got all the attention! Service was good, attentive, and they were super nice. The menu was new for restaurant week and I gotta say it was amazing. The friend chicken and waffles were great, make sure to ask for extra syrup on the side. The crab cake was incredible, the broccoli it sat over was a bit too salty for me. The Jambalaya pasta was just perfect also. All the flavors went well and even though they claim to be small plates, they are pretty big decent size plates. Also they make a lot of things in-house including the sweet butter that went with the biscuits. Definitely recommend it and going back! read more

The first plate we got was the tater tots. The insides were cold, and the outside dripping with oil. Sent them back and told waitress to take them off the bill. Next came the turkey sandwich. The bacon was crisp, but the sandwich was otherwise ordinary. My wife's brisket sandwich was also just adequate, and the rest of our party reported the same. We were the only people there at Sunday lunch for an entire hour. The word is out, apparently; sorry we didn't get it before coming. read more

This restaurant is located in the Fair oaks Marriott, we stumbled upon it upon searching for a local choice for restaurant week. Ample parking and you can easily find it on the first floor of the hotel. We made a reservation but our party did not arrive all at once. The staff was kind enough to seat us anyways and were extremely attentive from start to finish. The head chef also came to check on our table which was a pleasant surprise. All the dishes ordered by the table were phenomenal especially the Lobster Risotto and crab cakes. They have a wide selection of beers and wine, deducting one star because I was not impressed with their cocktails menu. read more

I had heard good things about 703 bar + kitchen so me and a friend decided to check it out. At first, it was a little strange going inside hotel to eat dinner (that wasn't in DC), but the restaurant didn't disappoint! The setup of the restaurant is really "open" and we were confused at which parts were actually apart of the restaurant because it looked like a hotel lobby bar and there wasn't a lot of signage for the actual restaurant. I actually don't think I saw a sign that said 703 bar + kitchen but I might have missed it. To start, we ordered Mom's Pimento Cheese, the pork croquettes and a dozen oysters. They were all tasty. I don't eat pork but my friend seemed to really like the croquettes. We also ordered the shaved broccoli salad without bacon, the grilled salmon, country fried steak, pork belly and tater tots. The plates were pretty small, but with all this food we were full! There were guests from a conference that were in the bar area which made it seem a lot more lively then it probably usually is on a Tuesday night, but the wait staff was friendly and it was an overall enjoyable evening! read more

We ate here because we were guests of the hotel. After a 7 hour drive we did not want to venture out. We started out with drinks. I got there RUTHERFOD HILL BARREL SELECT RED BLEND. It was great. Full of depth and delicious oak notes. My husband got a Old Bust Head- Table Talk Belgian Wit beer. It was crisp, light and refreshing. It was slightly fruity with out being hoppy. My man got the chicken breast, with biscuit dumplings, beech mushroom, baby corn & sage. The chicken had delicious crispy skin and moist meat. He did not care for the mushrooms as they were a bit "slimy" over all the portion was small. He also opted for the house made tater tots with sorghum ketchup. The tots were crunchy, just salty enough. The ketchup was smoother and less sweet then regular ketchup. They were the highlight of both meals. We got the crispy Brussel Sprouts. It was served warm with pickled peppers and sunflower seeds. It was slightly spicy and delicious. I got the American Wagyu Flank Steak, with confit cherry tomatoes, charred onion & chimichurri. I am a HUGE foodie. And there is no way the tomatoes were "confit". Blistered maybe. The chimichurri was not like any chimichurri I had ever had. It was nasty. There was some funky underlying flavor I did not like at all. I could not get the taste out of my mouth. And to me the worst thing you can do. My meal came out not even room temperature. She offered at first to make me something new. But it was already close to 9 pm and I was frankly too tired to wait. On top of the fast I have huge dietary restrictions there was not a lot on the menu I could choose from. Then she offered me free desert. Again, gluten free and I don't love sweets. It was only then she said she would comp my meal. On a whole we were unimpressed and will not be returning. read more

This place completely blew me away. Tucked away in a Marriott Hotel with a very humble exterior, this place is definitely a hidden gem. We came for restaurant week and were not disappointed. The breading in all the dishes was done extremely well and the highlight for us were the pork croquettes (not pictured). Great food, service, and ambiance.
