I had heard good things about 703 bar + kitchen so me and a friend decided to check it out. At first, it was a little strange going inside hotel to eat dinner (that wasn't in DC), but the restaurant didn't disappoint! The setup of the restaurant is really "open" and we were confused at which parts were actually apart of the restaurant because it looked like a hotel lobby bar and there wasn't a lot of signage for the actual restaurant. I actually don't think I saw a sign that said 703 bar + kitchen but I might have missed it. To start, we ordered Mom's Pimento Cheese, the pork croquettes and a dozen oysters. They were all tasty. I don't eat pork but my friend seemed to really like the croquettes. We also ordered the shaved broccoli salad without bacon, the grilled salmon, country fried steak, pork belly and tater tots. The plates were pretty small, but with all this food we were full! There were guests from a conference that were in the bar area which made it seem a lot more lively then it probably usually is on a Tuesday night, but the wait staff was friendly and it was an overall enjoyable evening! read more

We ate here because we were guests of the hotel. After a 7 hour drive we did not want to venture out. We started out with drinks. I got there RUTHERFOD HILL BARREL SELECT RED BLEND. It was great. Full of depth and delicious oak notes. My husband got a Old Bust Head- Table Talk Belgian Wit beer. It was crisp, light and refreshing. It was slightly fruity with out being hoppy. My man got the chicken breast, with biscuit dumplings, beech mushroom, baby corn & sage. The chicken had delicious crispy skin and moist meat. He did not care for the mushrooms as they were a bit "slimy" over all the portion was small. He also opted for the house made tater tots with sorghum ketchup. The tots were crunchy, just salty enough. The ketchup was smoother and less sweet then regular ketchup. They were the highlight of both meals. We got the crispy Brussel Sprouts. It was served warm with pickled peppers and sunflower seeds. It was slightly spicy and delicious. I got the American Wagyu Flank Steak, with confit cherry tomatoes, charred onion & chimichurri. I am a HUGE foodie. And there is no way the tomatoes were "confit". Blistered maybe. The chimichurri was not like any chimichurri I had ever had. It was nasty. There was some funky underlying flavor I did not like at all. I could not get the taste out of my mouth. And to me the worst thing you can do. My meal came out not even room temperature. She offered at first to make me something new. But it was already close to 9 pm and I was frankly too tired to wait. On top of the fast I have huge dietary restrictions there was not a lot on the menu I could choose from. Then she offered me free desert. Again, gluten free and I don't love sweets. Tip: It is located inside the Marriott next to Fair Oaks Mall, in case you're driving around not listening to your gps telling you to turn into Marriott's parking lot (like I did lol). I came here on 2 different occasions. First time, I just went to the bar and loved it which is why I thought it would be a good idea to give them a try for dinner on Valentine's Day (I thought wrong). I love their interior, very trendy/ sleek yet inviting and cozy. When at the bar, I was helped by Gretchen - very friendly and accommodating. My drink was too strong for me, so she mixed it up just enough for me. Very nice menu of drinks. I their raspberry martini, moscato, blue moonshine something and something blood orange (I apologize for not remembering the names). Loved all of the drinks. Also tasted the deviled eggs (4/5 stars) and their revenge chocolate cake (5/5 stars). Definitely leave room for the revenge cake - it is very rich, but it's totally worth it. The prices for the drinks range from about $7 to $13, which is not bad for the area. And the cake was only $6, but boy was it good (drooling as I write this hahaha). Dinner: we sat for about 20 min before I got tired of waiting and went to the hostess since we haven't been helped. The restaurant had maybe 3 other couples, and plenty of waiters so 20 min to even say Hi to us is unacceptable! They had a special $50 three course meal menu for Valentine's Day, and one could also from a limited (very limited) regular menu. I decided to go with their special menu but asked if I could substitute the 1 meal of the menu with a soup from the regular menu, to which the waiter said yes. Well I guess we have a different understanding of what substituting means. I was charged $50 for the special menu PLUS $8 for the soup!!! So not only did I not eat no 1 meal from the special menu, but also got charged extra - vasically I got ripped off on Valentine's Day of all days! The crab soup I had was tasty, the sea scallops were mediocre and the creme brulee was subpar. Overall, I loved the bar part and would most likely come back just for that. Came here for Valentine's Day. Not sure what was worse between the food and the service. Empty appetizer plates stayed on the table 20 minutes after we finished eating. Entree (NY strip) was totally unseasoned, flavorless, and barely seared, although the inside was a good medium rare as ordered. There appeared to be only one server for the entire dining room. I was rather surprised that it was literally right at the entrance of the marriot hotel without their own separate entrance - i walked in and saw the bar and instead turned to concierge to ask where the restaurant is ha! I sat at the bar and grabbed a glass of wine and ordered some tots. The tots came out hot and fresh. The other dishes my friend ordered were all average - the chicken wings were below average, while the jambalaya lacked flavor. The short rib was delicious however. Service was very friendly and they put up with my friend who is very very particular (and vocal about it). The menu changes as the seasons do and that's nice to try out new things:) I will post a few pictures with my review but this new menu is small plates, I was not too sure how I would feel about it since I came in starving but I have to say I am quite impressed. We ordered the sea bass, very tasty and fresh. Pan seared fish juicy and tender, very delightful. We went for Christmas Eve dinner and were extremely impressed. The restaurant was nice, and they had the Christmas Trees decorated beautifully. I had the Rigatoni, and it was really good. I also had the three scoops of ice cream. The best one was the Honey Lavender. It was so good. The servers were very nice, and the host was great. I got in to the Fairfax Marriott much later than I anticipated and was disappointed that the quickest, best option for food was the hotel restaurant 703. I had this idea that hotel restaurants are mediocre at worst and 'convenient' at best. However, 703 exceeded my expectations. My dirty martini was perfectly made, leading me to order a second quickly after. My travel troubles faded away and I was able to enjoy a bacon and fig flatbread that was amazing! I wish the flatbread was a bit thinner and crunchier but the taste was amazing. The cheese, bacon, and figs blended together well under the onion jam. The following day, I kept thinking about that well made martini so I stopped in again to grab a drink and their bacon donut creation. Can I tell you that that meal made my long day of training so much better!! The bacon donut dish had that amazing onion jam along with two handmade donuts and thick cut bacon. A true perfection of sweet and savory combinations. The restaurant seemed under staffed but the staff working did a great job attempting to handle it. read more

This place is inside the Marriott Hotel in case you put it in the GPS and it might not take you to the hotel specifically. The food is amazing here! First, they bring out these tater tots that literally look more fancy than anything I have ever seen. Then they give you these freshly baked biscuits to munch on with some sauce (maybe fig) and butter. They're equally delicious! I might have had a bit too much to be honest but that's how good and addicting they were. The "restaurant week" option lets us choose 3 small plates plus ice cream so it was a pretty good deal. Don't be deterred by the fact that they're called "small" plates. They're definitely decent size. 2 of those combined with the starters would have been more than enough. The service was great. This is one of those unique places that I rarely find and want to stick around. I want it to have great business but still want it to be a little bit secret. That way it doesnt get so packed i have to wait 60 - 90 min for a table. The app to get is the mussels, WOW! The laid back drink? The Orange Line I had the Lobster Rolls on my visit and they were delicious. I was very happy to find that they were more than willing to give me any side I wanted to replace the fries. Background-we have been here for Thanksgiving for a number of years. It has always been good. This year was terrible. First, we were missing parts or all of some dishes. Salad was supposed to have apples and sweet potatoes. It didn't and when we asked we were told that they were not a part of the salad. Ok but why does you menu mention them? Bread came with regular butter only. When we asked about the apple butter, we were told the butter had apples and honey in it. That is not true. Then we were told we got trout, turkey, and beef. Last year, you picked a main. We don't eat fish. We were not offered more turkey or beef and the price was the same. We just got less food. We were never given the cranberry relish or additional gravy. In fact, one server told us there was no cranberry relish and that it was "incorporated" into one of the sides. She did offer to get us some fruit compote to make up for the cranberry relish that wasn't on their menu. It took asking 5 different people to get the cranberry relish, which did exist, and some extra gravy. How do you serve mashed potatoes with no gravy? The desserts were OK. I am just so disappointed. Last year the food was great and the server was awesome. This year, the service was awful. They either lied or didn't know their own menu and were unhelpful. The food was just OK. My first visit here I called ahead and asked for dinner hours. I arrived to later learn that Saturday the KITCHEN was closed and the bar was what was open with a LIMITED food menu. What I wanted wasn't on the limited menu so I walked. I called ahead yesterday for dinner hours & more clearly confirmed ahead the full kitchen menu hours. The kitchen closed at 11:00pm. I arrived about 8:30pm & was politely informed they sometimes close the kitchen at 10:00 on these slow nights & start sending some staff home but guests can stay & wouldn't be kicked out. Atmosphere: This is located at the bottom of the Marriott hotel. I don't get all the hate about it being in a hotel. I thought the entire hotel lobby and restaurant area seating were beautiful. There are two fireplace spots you can sit at if they are available. The booths are nice but in the middle with two open sides, so comfy, convenient, but a little less private however still very nice seating of all sorts available. Since it was dead inside on my visit (about 8:30-10:00pm Sunday night in November) I scored a seat on the "L" shaped couch with the TV and the server at that time of day could even bring us the remote & choose what we wanted. I am family-friendly & still choose Toy Story 3. Ok, beyond families & not a kiddo in sight, who am I kidding? I am a kid at heart & chose. (Don't judge me! Lol!) I had what others recommended & thank all yelpers who reviewed/photo'd & the place for not removing the top favorite items by popular mentions! They are tasty food! The calls ahead, staff, & even minor order mistake (Where are those side pickles that I see in photos & are listed to come with the sandwich I ordered?). I didn't complain because it was a dead Sunday. I was cozy w/ my TV on a dead night there. My food & drink were delicious. My food was served warm and/or fresh. My server was a kind young gentleman that was casual but also classy. He did a good job checking on us as well as giving us time. This menu change is shaking the place up on the back end & I can tell as a guest. I don't see the changes but whatever they are menu changing is making them appear "off" for now. So, this is a solid three-star restaurant. I was a little let down because of all the stellar Yelp reviews, and probably walked in with way-too-high expectations. 703 Bar+Kitchen is oddly located inside of a Marriott Hotel at the outskirts of Fair Oaks Mall. It is very open on all sides to the large hotel lobby, and so I initially thought it was just the hotel lounge area. Granted, the Marriott is a very nice and modern hotel, and the restaurant area matches, with fireplaces, and light, clean, contemporary decor. Food: We came during lunch time. - Baked goat cheese to start: basically a small scoop of warm goat cheese with a small, thinly sliced loaf of bread. The goat cheese was accompanied by a few cloves of baked, soft, sweet garlic -- the garlic really made the dish! Tasty with the garlic, but once we were out of the 4 garlic cloves, the goat cheese was very rich and one-note. Just okay. - Lobster roll: came with 2 pretty small rolls and fries and some sliced pickles from a jar. The lobster rolls were ok. The bread was nice and toasty and buttery but the lobster wasn't all that tasty. It needed some lemon or some more butter/sauce/seasoning. The lobster meat came in big chunks though, which was nice. - Cheeseburger with bacon, egg, and caramelized onions added (each of those three additions cost $2): Nothing special. It could have used an aioli or sauce on it, as it wasn't especially well seasoned. The additions were good but at $2 EACH I thought the price was a bit steep for what the dish was. Came with fries and sliced dill pickles that were again, clearly from a jar. Overall this is an ok lunch place if you're by Fair Oaks Mall. The meal was not bad by any means but nothing really stood out as special. Everything was prepared ok and the ambiance was classy and mellow. Not the same food as a year ago unfortunately. The chef with quite a background has left 3 months ago according to the server when I asked. Food is okay. Not bad but not excellent like it was in the past. The menu is not exciting and small just like the portion. The gem I thought has turned into just another stone. If you want to relax and chat with friends for an extended time, this is the spot. No one would rush you to pay and vacate the table for the other customers. While in town for business I visited this restaurant, it has been recently renovated, it looks beautiful. Now they need to work on their menu, all of it, breakfast, lunch and dinner. They are very limited, and for example we went there for dinner , it was perhaps 7pm, and the had no steaks....I mean it is Saturday night, the place is packed, and no steaks?!? Which left us with a more limited choice to select from. Just because we were tired and didn't want to go other place we stayed but it was very disappointing, on top of that they only had two servers. We really felt bad for them, I mean they we great, but at the end of the day they're only human, and can do so much for the amount of people they were serving. Saw this restaurant close to our home on Open Table and the menu looked interesting so we decided to give it a try for New Year's Day dinner with friends. Great experience!!! Our server was very enthusiastic about the menu and gave us some great suggestions - we had the lemon grilled shrimp appetizer which was amazing. 3 of the 4 of us ended up ordering the BBQ brisket sandwich with blue cheese slaw special - also awesome. Looking forward to going back to try some of the regular menu items - mussels, lobster rolls, crab cakes, burgers, ... Although we were stuffed, 3 of us had a dessert shooter. They do need to add hard cider to the bar menu though. :) The restaurant in the lobby of the Marriott is very nicely done - clean lines, comfy fire place area, pleasant staff. Unfortunately most places on restaurant.com have mediocre reviews except for 703 bar & kitchen, might be a bit awkward for some to come here unless you are staying in the hotel. The restaurant is located in the Marriott hotel across from Fair Oaks mall so it's a pretty easy find. The ambiance here was romantic and well lit, service was also very hospitable! We ordered NY strip steak and the Chilean sea bass with lobster mac and cheese to share. The NY strip steak was ordered to be cooked medium but it was closer to medium well. Pretty good for an average steak, the winning dish was the sea bass fish with lobster mac and cheese. The lobster mac and cheese had the right amount of flavor and not too overwhelming with the saltiness of the cheese. The pasta they used were cute as a button, literally! Definitely a great eating place for hotel visitors. The restaurant was also renovated 4 months ago so everything is new. Overall this place is a 3.5 compared to other NOVA restaurants, but a 4 if you are trying to eat only at the hotel. read more

After a snowed-in Saturday, my friend and I were ready to get rid of our stir crazy ailment by grabbing lunch at 703 bar + kitchen, a new restaurant on our radars! Tucked away in the Marriott Hotel of the Fair Oaks Mall plaza, the 703 bar + kitchen gives off a very business like vibe, which can be both good and bad (depending on how you feel about business luncheon decor). The large (artificial?) fire pit and geometric wall decor brings it back to chic though, and ultimately serves as a nice backdrop to our lunch. Looking back at our ordering decisions, my friend and I must have been on some seafood kick or something, but I digress. We shared two appetizers, deciding on the warm artichoke and crab dip, as well as a plate of mussels, both around $10/$11 each. The artichoke and crab dip was pretty standard, warm, gooey, cheesy, and served with a heaping basket of baked pita. Tasted good, but nothing life changing. The mussels were well seasoned, and nicely flavored in what I believe to be a white wine broth with garlic and some parsley. The star of the plate for me though would have to be the grilled lemon, which added a much appreciated lightly charred and acidic flavor component to the dish. The large plate came with 2 big pieces of a baguette, perfect for mopping up the seafood liquor. For our main entree, we both ordered lobster rolls, which was essentially one long roll, cut in half, filled to the brim with a bright and creamy lobster filling. Served alongside the rolls were a nice portion of crunchy french fries, hot pickled cucumber slices, and another aforementioned grilled lemon half. The plate overall was okay, I'd say a good lobster roll, but again, nothing life changing. Being $18 for the whole plate, I couldn't complain. Upon entering, my friend and I were slightly confused as there was literally no one else there dining at 1pm on a Sunday. Having recently found out that they only opened a couple of months ago though, would explain that. This was one of the best bar and restaurants I've been to in a Marriott. I stay at a lot of Marriott. The bar tenders were great! And had a great selection of craft beer to appeal to anyone. They also had a great list of signature cocktails with va craft liquor making a great local selection. The food was also great. I had crab cake, roasted vegetables, and mashed potatoes...excellent! The overall experience was just ok for me. The service was a bit slow and I was kind of annoyed they didn't have what I wanted. I originally ordered the chicken but I had to settle for a burger. So I read the reviews and decided to try it out. Now I have to admit I'm not a fan of restaurants inside hotels. I guess I've never had a WOW experience from a place like that. However I think I stumbled on to something with 703. I ordered the lobster roll, which came with fries and pickled cucumbers. Which by the way we're out standing. The lobster roll made me feel like I was in New England. Lobster was fresh and it was piled high. A great value for $18. They have some great beer on tap, with some local verities. I had the the local brown ipa. Great taste alround. Now the draw back for me was when I walked in I walked right past the restaurant and had to ask one of the girls standing in the entrance. I sign would be nice, due to the fact that from the outside it looks like every other hotel bar. When in town this is a good place for a great meal. I'll be back. read more

Hubby and I decided to try this little place out (in a hotel of all places!) on Thursday night. We have been back twice since then. On Saturday night. And then Sunday afternoon. We plan to be back again this week. And we aren't even guests. If you are looking for a new summer drink, look no further. Our waiter, Julio, recommended the Gin Rickey -- with a cucumber infused gin -- and good God is it amazing. You must get the lobster roll. Even more so, the lightly pickled cucumbers that come with it. Hubby and I are debating the ingredients because we want to make it at home. Our amazing hostess, Amber, told us that the chef won't even share the recipe with them. Hesitant to go to a hotel restaurant but the reviews on here were so good my wife and I decided to try. We moved tables a few minutes after being there because of another very loud party. We got a flat bread special for an app and it was very salty and fishy. We sent it back. For dinner we got the lobster role bc of all the reviews on here. If anyone thinks that the lobster role is good you should go to jacksons or coastal flats - their lobster role is 2x as good. Lobster role here was average compared to those places. We also got the filet. It was a bit over cooked and average. Our bill was $120. For the same price a meal at coastal flats would have been much better. We will not be returning. The fries and potato Au gratin were good. Too many other better restaurants close by to come here and waste your money. Ps. A Manhattan cost us $15.50 - that NY pricing. read more

Love this place - great food and drinks! Stopped in for a late night bite with the hubby, Henssell our waiter was great - we sat by this amazing fireplace on comfy sofas - we will be back - burger was the best! If there is a Gretel out there look for our waiter he is so cute! read more

Hubby and I were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant and will return. As other reviews have stated, unless you know to look for the restaurant inside the hotel, there is no obvious branding. In fact, our server asked how we heard about the place (we told him Yelp). We had the baked goat cheese appetizer, crab cake sandwich, and lobster roll. We went with our own more traditional mixed drinks, but the cocktail list had some unique selections. The baked goat cheese was fabulous. I don't get the complaints about it being small. Goat cheese is rich, so I felt it was the right amount. The garlic cloves were the best part, but only having a few is ideal because the average person would likely find several roasted garlic cloves in an appetizer to be too strong. Agree though that perhaps more bread might be helpful. But given how friendly the server was, I'm sure he would've brought more had we asked. Hubby loved the lobster roll. Yes, the bread/actual rolls were on the "small" side--they were more like the New England style ones that many places with legit lobster rolls use. Given the generous amount of lobster meat, he was happy. They looked good. Crab cake sandwich was a generous portion and much better than I expected. It could've been a bit more "gelled," but there was no starchy filler, so I'd prefer to have it a bit messier than the alternative. I had to eat some with a knife and fork before even picking up the sandwich. The toasted brioche bun was very good. The pickles served with the sandwiches are supposedly housemade, and I'd bet that they are based on what we got (not uniformly cut, interesting seasonings). Maybe this is a change? Fries served with the meals were also tasty. Finally, I want to comment on price. Yes, the food isn't cheap. BUT most chain hotels upcharge for their food. This is a fact of life. IMO, for under $20 per lobster roll and crab cake sandwich, considering the amount of actual seafood AND taking into account that it's a hotel restaurant, I was impressed at the value for the money. Maybe I didn't have as high of expectations as some others? Remember, this is a Marriott restaurant, not a 5-star hotel. We will definitely return for a meal after shopping at Fair Oaks, because compared to Cheesecake Factory and other sit-down chains at the mall, the food was better and similarly priced. read more

Nice Selection of Craft Beers! They had about 6 local beers from IPA's to Lagers. All at $7.00 a pint. Friendly bartenders. I had the Clam and Corn Chowder and it was the bomb! If they had a discount Happy hour I would give 5 stars read more

I ordered eggs Benedict. It had no flavor and barely any sauce. The waitress did not know what a Bloody Mary was. My 10% off discount from checking in on yelp took a long time to run. We are here on a Sunday night and it has a good crowd but limited staff. The staff is super friendly but one waiter and bartender for 40 plus people does not help with service. I really wanted to give 5 stars but there are too many issues to include items not available that are on the menu, limited staff, long waiting times. Food is pricey but there is a lot of food. The food is great but the staff is working on the little things like refills. All in all I would come back but be prepared for the wait staff issue. read more

We read the menu the first time and did not understand the wonderful treats of this dinner. Everything that was advertised was in the meal.
