My mother and I went out for lunch to this place today, and we specifically ordered the branzino/lemon caper entree with a side of the cream sauce from the Chilean sea bass. We were unfortunately served the branzino topped with only the Chilean garlic sauce and not the lemon caper sauce at all. The server wasn't seeming to know what to do with our dissatisfied reaction, so we decided to salvage the fish and ordered the lemon caper on the side, it tasted bland at best. Fish was fine, but unfortunately there was nothing worth mentioning positively about it for its $37 price point. *Neither sauce was worth ordering and unfortunately neither tasted how they were described, more like plain aioli. In our ignorance, we didn't realize branzino meant the whole fish would be served versus a filet. It would have been nice to have been able to read that fact on the menu prior to ordering. We ordered the truffle fries, which had probably zero amounts of truffle on them. Overcooked. We ordered the tropical mojito mocktail, and it was either poorly made or the recipe could use a complete reset. The crab stuffed mushrooms and sauce, amazing. Server, kind. We were asking quite a few questions of him, trying to decide between the Chilean with lobster or the branzino, which showed our ignorance in the fish choices, I believe. A good server would have picked up on this, and went into a much more detailed explanation of both dishes to educate and inform us on making the right decision. So I think it's pretty accurate to say that a good majority of the problems we had could have been salvaged had he been a little more seasoned at reading the individual needs of his customers. Although, with ordering either of these entrees or the truffle fries, we would have been disappointed as the flavor was just not there. Being out of towners used to seafood from California, we were excited to try a new place on the east coast. I read multiple positive reviews from other customers, and unfortunately we are leaving disappointed in the $80 spent. We were in the mood for seafood and found Ocean Paradise nearby! The decor is very nice. Classy but not stuffy where you feel like evening wear required. We were happily greeted in and seated. They weren't too busy on this Sunday evening. For apps we decided on the crab guacamole, peel and eat shrimp, and the fried trio- Oysters/Calamari/Shrimp that came with marinara and a roumalade. I noticed a Chipotle sauce that came with another shrimp dish and asked for that instead. The chips were fresh and tasty. Guac was also good the crab sat on top the guac. Peel and eat shrimp well seasoned with old bay. The fried trio was amazing as well. Everything perfectly fried and the Chipotle sauce delicious! For mains we went with the Chilean sea bass and lobster special. Fish and lobster was well prepared in a creamy sauce on top of mashed potatoes. Delicious and the potatoes were plentiful. We also tried the Chef's Ocean Elegance - Seared scallops and crab stuffed shrimp on top of garlic mashed potatoes topped with green onion and mushrooms in a lemon caper sauce. This is honestly such mediocre food, I don't really understand the rave reviews. The service was great, and the restaurant was clean, but other than that, there's not much else I liked. We came on a busy Sunday, but everything moved fairly quickly. As a table, we split the fried calamari and Spanish chorizo mussels. Both of which were solid as appetizers. There was nothing too spectacular about them. As my main, I ordered the crab-stuffed salmon which came with mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables. The salmon, while the best part of the dish, still left more to be desired. It was a bit dry and I didn't think the sauce was all that flavorful. The vegetables were fine, but the mashed potatoes were simply bad? They had the texture and flavor of instant mashed potatoes, slightly liquidity while being quite bland. Ocean Paradise came to our attention when Yelp sent an email with restaurant suggestions. After looking over their menu, we decided to give it a try. It's in a newish shopping center, which, for us, had a bonus-- there is a Harris Teeter there. We needed to pick up some items, so we did before having dinner. We were here for an early dinner. Now that it's getting darker so early, we try to avoid driving after dark, when possible. Thus, we were here around 3 p.m. and were glad to see they were serving dinner at that time. To drink, I chose a mocktail called "What a lychee" which consists of "lychee, pineapple juice, club soda". It was garnished with a lychee. I did enjoy this drink. My husband had a non-alcoholic Stella Artois. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated immediately. Having looked at the menu before arriving, we each knew what we wanted. I chose to try the "Blackened Pan Seared Yellow Fin Tuna" which (supposedly) consists of: "Topped with jumbo lump crab meat, sundried tomatoes, shiitake mushrooms, creamy lemon sauce served with rice." My husband chose the "Shrimp platter," which (supposedly) consists of: "crispy beer battered shrimp, coleslaw and chipotle sauce served with hand cut French fries." It took a while for our food to come out. As I was eating, it dawned on me that there was no crab meat or sundried tomatoes. Also, the sauce sure was a creamy lemon sauce. It was more like a miso-flavored sauce. Hard to say if the menu got changed, but no new menus were printed up to fix it. Or was it that the young man who cooked the food wasn't familiar with the entrees? Still, despite the discrepancies, I did like this dish, although it would have been even better if they had prepared it correctly. My husband noticed that there was no Chipotle sauce on his dish. Instead, there were two small containers: one with ketchup and another with tartar sauce. He, too, thought that his shrimp was well prepared, although the breading didn't cling to the shrimp. This experience left us with mixed feelings. On the one hand, we appreciated the friendly, attentive service. Very much enjoyed my tuna dinner here. Very close by the hotel, and as I walked through the plaza, I came upon this restaurant. Checked out its reviews. That and it's menu made it worth a try. The blackened pan seared yellow fish tuna jumped off the menu at me, so I had to give it a try. Being a huge fish fan, the tuna is topped with some lump crab meat. (you get a bit, not a ton), shiitake mushrooms in a creamy lemon butter sauce sounded very appetizing. One big takeaway I need to mention is it says the meal included white rice. I had it "to go" and when I got back to the hotel and sat down to eat, the white rice was missing. WTH!? The meal only comes with two things and you forgot one? You get a choice of one side. It comes with mashed potatoes, but I went with the side salad. You don't get much salad, but what you do get had fresh vegetables. Nice staff. It's a clean looking establishment. read more

I finally gave in and called to place an order. The waiter on the phone was efficient, but not the friendliest. Also it was weird because he didn't seem to know the protocol for taking orders or food allergies. So we were put on a long hold while he checked - which we appreciate his diligence for but we could hear their conversation because we weren't put on mute. The bad part of this meal was dessert. We ordered the brownie Sunday. The brownie was obviously microwaved in the plastic container. What happens when plastic is microwaved? Depending on the type, it melts. This clear plastic melted and merged with the rock hard, over heated brownie. It was literally so hard that the plastic fork they provided could not penetrate the brownie. Pretty solid seafood fare restaurant in the Northern Virginia and Fairfax area. Ocean Paradise is a solid seafood spot, and it's leagues better than Ford's Fish Shack, which has become a trite and "overrated" go-to spot for seafood, to name the term. Ford's (at least the one in Ashburn) quality has consistently been plummeting, and last two times the food as a whole has been too salty by far. We've been to Ocean Paradise twice, as a family. The first time, I had Lobster Scampi and it was simply delicious. Enjoyed it both the times, tried something different this time. Actually this time, we came for my mom's birthday. So a special occasion. We immediately ordered calamari to start, and I got the Grilled Branzino. We also ordered Sea Bass and Fish n' Chips. Calamari came sooner than expected, and it was simply amazing. Knocked my socks off. Perfect amount of salt, and two separate, unique sauces. Nothing overpowering. Taste-wise they nailed it. I had the Grilled Branzino, which was a Whole Mediterranean Blackened Sea Bass, lemon caper sauce, rice and sautéed vegetables. I substituted the white rice for Spanish rice -- basically fried rice, with vegetables and spices. I enjoyed the Branzino, the fish itself was somewhat tasteless and very bony -- not fan of so many small bones -- but with the sauce it was passable. Asparagus was the vegetable here, about 3-5 of them, it was pretty nice. As a whole, my dish was not superb but it was pretty spot-on, I'll give it a pass. After eating my food, I excused myself and told someone at the bar that it was special occasion and we'd like to get bread pudding for dessert. They came afterwards and sang happy birthday, which was nice touch. Overall, good experience here at Ocean Paradise, the seafood and menu never disappoints, quality has been rock solid the twice we've come, and plus it's best to opt for seafood with bird flu going on right now (chicken's out). Second time here. I don't come here often since I was staying at the hotel access the street. After a long trip with little sleep, I just wanted a good meal and veg out in front of the TV. First off, it was missing the coleslaw and remoulade sauce. I was really tired and didn't feel like walking back. The food was on the salty side. It might have been better with the remoulade or coleslaw to cut the saltiness. The hotel had mayonnaise that was better than nothing. The French fries was sad. I ate about half then gave up. This is was a disappointment. The seafood was good for the most part. The crab cake, oysters, and shrimp were good. The scallops were a mixed bad. We felt like we were eating in a cafeteria. The ambiance was quite nice this time. We weren't sure if it was the holiday decorations or if we got a corner table. We could actually hear each other. Then he struggled to understand a Grey Goose and Soda? I'm not sure if it was a language issue or maybe he was just new, but obviously he did not know the menu well and struggled the orders all along the way. The manager came out to clarify my scallops order, as I switched sauces and forego the bacon. It was good, but the sauce was far from spicy as advertised. My bride said it best, the best park of the meal was the dessert. I had the pumpkin cheesecake and she had the warm brownie with ice cream. The expresso martinis looked good but like everything else here just lacked a little sparkle. Let me go back for one moment, we went here as we had a hankering for mussels. We miss Mon Ami Gabi .... They had great mussels. Anyway the white wine garlic sauce was bland and lacked pizazz. Although the actual mussels were meaty and cooked correctly, the broth makes the dish. This was a big miss. So people understand where I'm coming from--I absolutely love oysters. I've been eating them since my early 20s, so for over 20 years now, and I also worked as a chef for more than a decade. I've had oysters from Sweden, New Zealand, Maine, and many other places. I worked in a French restaurant where I personally shucked oysters and cooked mussels, not including I fish all my live, so I know fresh shellfish. We ordered the $40 premium oysters here, and when they arrived, they smelled horrendous. I immediately called the waiter over, and he actually jumped back from the smell himself. He admitted they smelled bad, went to the kitchen, and came back a few minutes later saying, "They're fresh." No, they absolutely were not. Fresh oysters do not smell like that. Serving spoiled oysters is incredibly dangerous--people can get very sick from Vibrio infection, Norovirus, or even Hepatitis A. The mussels were sandy. For anyone who knows: when mussels arrive, you remove them from the net, clean them, pull out the beard, and soak them in cold salted water for about 20 minutes. They'll filter themselves and come out clean. That basic step wasn't done here. p.s. Yes we eat mussels but it was very late, and we were starving, not a lot of place we knew were still open. Everything else we ordered was just "okay," but overall, I felt the chefs here cook without passion or proper care. I was especially disappointed because this place was recommended to me. I've been coming here with my wife since they opened, literally upwards of a hundred times at this point, and I mean it when I say I've never had a bad meal, a bad experience, bad service, or anything of the sort. This is a consistent good choice, time and time again, whether you want some casual bar bites (happy hour at the bar is such a deal, and the Salmon Caesar has really grabbed ahold of me recently), or a drink (always in-stock vino verde, rotating drafts, delicious cocktails, and great non-alcoholic options), or something fancier (high quality cuts of fish and on New Year's a couple years ago I had one of the best steaks I've had anywhere nearby). The local oysters are always excellent, and I've seriously never had better bread pudding. This is one of my favorite places when I'm eating out, and I'm always a little excited when I go, introduce somebody to it, or even just recommend it. The service workers were very attentive and nice. The food was good not amazing. The prices were a little on the high side but makes sense because of inflation. I would return here but it wouldn't be my first choice. The ambiance is nice with good lighting. They have different genres of music playing in the background, not too loud. read more

Our group of neighbors(all over 65) have assembled at OP over last couple years at least a dozen times. Did so again today for a birthday party for one of our tribe. We all noted (party of 11) the service and the faire has steadily declined. Well, today was the breaker. One server completely overwhelmed & food decidedly lacking. & had ordered a dozen half shells (the bulky plates w ice and shell not cleared before food starts arriving. Requested a little horseradish for sauce to go w oysters..$2.75 extra. All and all i Think our group of old folks(read generous tippers) will fnd another nest..very disappointed. read more

So the wife and I went here as first timers for our 20 year Anni. and it was amazeballs! Started with some adult bevvies, the wife had cosmo and I had The Old Fashion. Very delicious. The Appetizer was stuffed mushrooms, and mercy me these were amazeballs. For entrees the wife had salad with Salmon and she just loved it. I had the surf n turf, I think the steak was a strip steak and turf was lobster tail, it did not disappoint, steak was cooked perfect and lobster tail was a nice size and cooked perfectly.
