I had a massage here last week and it was the first time I have ever walked out of a massage feeling worse, and in more pain than when I went in. I've been an athlete my entire life, so I've been getting massages for 30+ years. I've also had the same issue in the past that I went in for this time. All of the other times, I left the massage feeling much more relief and they took care of my problem. Not so this time. Besides that, the massage therapist never stopped talking the entire time. I had my first massage with Hector last night! He's incredibly skilled and experienced in what he does as a massage therapist. We were talking throughout most of the 60 minute session (because I had requested for him to explain) and he is very knowledgeable about what he does. I told him that I sit behind a computer all day long with my shoulders slouched and requested for only a back massage. Hector explained to me that trigger points for back pain is actually caused in different areas of the body and we modified the massage to what I needed to make me feel best. I've received my trainings from some of the very best on the planet and am pretty darn spoiled when it comes to getting my massages. I've retired but worked on both the very wealthiest, and the very best athletes in numerous sports for many years. I say all that to give you a reference point for when I say that he is the Best I've had in the 20 years I've lived on the West Coast. He has extensive Rolfing Training, which allows him to work as deeply as the body needs, and he is incredibly intuitive as well, knowing how deeply or gently he needs to work, and when and where the body needs what it needs. In a word, Impressive. He used to be on lower State Street, and has moved to a location farther up State, just below Mission St in a building that calls itself Massage Collective. Massage started 15 minutes late and ended at 45 minutes, not 60, which was what we booked and paid for... we had set a timer when hands were on the person. My arms, hands, front of legs and feet were never even touched.. definitely NOT a full body massage in the slightest. Music was loud and disruptive rather than peaceful. Hector is incredible!! I'm a dancer and have two other jobs here in Santa Barbara. I'm either on my feet constantly or locked at a desk. I came in for the summer special, not realizing how much my body needed this therapy. I hadn't been given a massage in almost a year, and it showed. Hector's hands are magical!! I have been suffering from frozen shoulder for almost two years. I was unable to bend my right arm back. I was unable to sleep. This was a fantastic massage, and I am pretty particular about my massages. Hector paid particular attention to the spots I had pointed out. I said I wanted extra arms and he spent the time on them. I get a lot of massages, and no one ever does enough arms and hands. Pretty standard swedish massage techniques (I asked for relaxation massage, not deep tissue), but he knows what he is doing. I purchased a massage on Groupon for my husband for his birthday last month. I came in with him for his appointment today because we had been out walking state street together and I wanted to check it out. It's a very nice little studio/spa space. The waiting room is really quirky and colorful yet relaxing. The girl who got him checked in was so nice and helpful. I hung out for a minute and charged my phone while sitting on the patio which overlooks state. When my husband got out he was a whole new man! He had a big smile on his face and told me he felt amazing & it was the best massage he's ever had. He has pretty bad back pain and ended up opting for a couple of add ons which he also really loved. Robert was his masseuse and he seems to really know what he's doing and is also very friendly. Yes it's true you do have to book a bit in advance but it's worth the wait!
