For the first time I realize I had been hearing a fair amount of outside noise (which I'd apparently gotten used to), because these windows/doors are soundproof; now I don't hear anything at all from outside! And even better, the windows are easy to open, and my sliding glass doors actually slide well in the track, and are not shaking and drafty when it's windy outside -- major improvements from my old, builder-grade, 20+ year-old windows/sliding door. Further, the service crew was excellent -- careful, kind, professional, efficient, and they cleaned up everything afterwards. Roger, the foreman, has been doing this work for almost 30 years, and Jose, who single-handedly carried in/out the windows/doors, has been doing this work for 10+ years. I didn't get the name of the quiet third service person who was mostly outside and on the ladders, also very efficient. fyi, they did mention that working on the 4th floor of our condos from ladders was a bit more challenging as the original builder-grade windows had been made to fit by being packed/taped in place from the outside, which necessitated them having to actually break some of the glass to be able to pull the old windows out. But they did it - and did it well. Finally, Shaun, the project manager who gave me my estimate and oversaw the project from estimate, HOA approval process, to completion, was great. Highly recommended.

The Pella repair man came today (Aug 20th) to finish install and replace missing trim. He cleaned up a lot of the dirty prints left behind on trim and in caulk on install, but did not have correct trim to replace trim that fell off. Wish he would have been here to guide the installers. They evidently are not experienced enough to work independently and could use supervision. The trim that fell off was not the correct trim for exterior. With trim missing between balcony door and transom over the door, it shows that the gap between is about 1/8" on outer edges and widens in middle to greater than 1/4" wide, then narrows to about 1/8" on other side. Gave me a clue as to why the trim fell off. I would conclude that lower door frame was not shimmed properly to be set level. It will likely be a few more weeks before correct trim piece can be ordered and the repair completed. Other residents in the condo community have been asking, and based on my experience, I cannot reccommend Pella.

We had a new roof installed by Charm City Roofing at the end of 2023 because the company had excellent reviews and they were reasonable cost. We have a pretty simple duplex so we expected the process to be straightforward. Unfortunately, what should have been an easy roofing project turned into a frustrating and ongoing ordeal that we are still dealing with years later. During the installation, the workers left 20+ roofing nails scattered around our property, with at least half of them near our 2 year old daughter's sandbox. They broke a PVC pipe (sewer backflow pipe) that stuck out of the ground near the house that they later had to come back and fix. Additionally, they cut into the wrong side of our attic while installing solar tunnels that also had to be patched up later due to a lack of communication with workers. We planned to finish our attic in the future and were assured by Darius that a roof exhaust fan would provide sufficient airflow and that soffit ventilation would be "overkill." It was communicated with the company that the attic would be finished in the future, and that we did not expect an exhaust fan to automatically turn it into a livable space. Two months later, we discovered that the underside of the attic roof directly above our daughter's bedroom was now covered in mold due to a lack of air flow. After multiple missed appointments (there were approximately 5 total over the course of the entire ordeal, resulting in wasting at least 3 PTO days) and failed attempts to get someone out to inspect the issue, they finally came to look at it. They then told us we actually would need soffit ventilation and that WE would have to pay to fix the problem. While they were fixing their mistake, the owner informed us that the roof had actually been installed by third party contractors. After correcting those issues, several months later our duplex neighbor noticed water leaking into her closet, something she had never experienced before. She hired another roofer, who found that Charm City Roofing had failed to install proper flashing between the two roofs which required additional repairs. Now, more than two years later, we are still discovering new issues. We are currently getting water leakage near our chimney due to large gaps between the plywood and poor sealing, which we will also now need to fix. Once again we continue to be chasing repairs and trying to correct issues that should have been addressed during the original installation. If you read this far, I think you can see why we don't recommend Charm City Roofing.

Each handyman was cut out of the same mold - on time, respectful, upfront on costs, and superior work skills. Recently, Tony was brought to our house as the dry wall in the garage was about to fall. Mr. Handyman office quickly notified Tony who drove immediately to our house and began the work to repair. Afterwards we asked him to rework the drywall and support for the whole garage, repair all paneling after 33 years of neglect, and paint ceiling and rest of the garage. Tony was personable, extremely neat, kept us informed of his progress, and delivered an unbelievable sight of richness to our garage. As he was leaving I asked Tony if he could add handles to the shower area even though this was not on his work order. He did so willingly and worked overtime to be sure we were pleased. This is the type of workmanship that everyone should know about, and all pricing is up front before work begins. We will definitely be using Mr. Handyman for our future needs. The Seippels

None of the workers doing the construction work for Dfine. In fact one of them told us no habla ingles, indicating he only spoke Spanish. Highly suggest you find any other firm to do the actual construction. I've never had an issue with Brothers Services or Tim Kyle Electric. If you want the job done right you need a firm that has employees who are vested in the project results and speak English. Dfine's use of contractors that don't work for Dfine is a mistake from the outset. We had delays and eventually had to negotiate a final payment since not all work contracted for was completed or some services were overpriced after checking with other firms. And some work for which I requested a quote so I could check with another firm was simply done without providing a quote for which I had to pay extra for. And Ahmet, while an owner, was never a project manager. In fact there was no project manager watching over daily work. Allied Remodeling at least offers that, where one of the owners reviews the daily work and any communications. I did eventually outsource some of the work to trusted firms like Tim Kyle and Anderson Windows. Did I pay more? Yes. Did I get the work that I expected? Yes. If Dfine somehow convinces you to go with their work crew, insist that David is the primary person who deals with the work. Still not a project manager, but a cut above the rest of what they have to offer. Anyone else is a joke. The design work done by Dfine was thoughtful. The construction could have been much better. And a word about what you think you want. Marble on any part of the remodel looks great. It is however cold as hell to the touch. In the kitchen during winter the counter tops are always cold. And try backing into a cold wall in the shower. It can be shocking. You may want to consider alternatives. There are plenty of firms that can get work done in a day without using marble. My upgrade from the 1960s was better than it was. Not perfect.
