The cocktail parlor felt like we teleported to a Manhattan cocktail lounge. Great cocktails and small bites. The music was upbeat and the bar staff were hilarious and attentive.

86 & Vine is hidden gem in Bergen County, and here's why... it's a 2-in-1 busienss with "86 & Vine", being an extensive liquor store, and "The Vine Room", being a speakeasy high class bar with chill vibes. Located in the suburbs of northern Bergen County it is secluded from all the nonsense and traffic. Once you get here you can shop at their extensive liquor store, and walk away excited with your selections. Francesco and Luigi (owners) have picked out the best of the best in liquor and wines... and, if they do not have it then they will get it! These guys may look young, but they have many years of solid experience in the liquor and wine business. You can not stump them, because they go as far as importing specialty wines/liqueurs right to their store. My favorite part is the speakeasy bar attached to the liquor store. It's elegant, sophisticated, exclusive feel makes it a delight to visit for a handcrafted cocktail and light appetizers. FYI: Plenty of parking as they have their own lot.

Decided to try this place out the Friday before Christmas. When we walked in there was a lot of open tables but we were asked to sit at the bar since two large parties were coming in. Neither of these parties really occupied the tables where we could've sat at. The drinks were really good but to charge $25 for a flat bread that I can see one of the bartenders putting together at the end of the bar was a huge turn off. The bartenders were very nice and attentive but you could tell they were overwhelmed with the amount of people in there. I felt frustrated for them b/c you could see 3 other people who work there in some capacity hanging around but not doing anything productive. I would NOT call this a speakeasy, it's a nice spot but it's in a strip mall attached to a liquor store and accessible from the main entrance. Not really speak easy type there haha. I would go back for drinks but not for food.

Love a late night with friends in the vine room at 86 & vine. The cocktails are awesome. The vibe is cozy, trendy, elegant. Bartenders are friendly. A great place to have drinks and chitchat with great friends till late in the weekends.

Had an early Valentine's Day dinner with the wife the day before Valentine's Day. Brasserie Memere…read moreis an upscale French restaurant located in the Target plaza of Closter. The lighting is dim, the ambiance is intimate, and it looks romantic. I had made reservations so we were seated immediately. It's funny to note that the place settings were placed next to each other instead of across from each other at a four person table. We usually prefer to face each other, but when it's Valentine's day why not be cute? We ordered a few drinks during our dinner, the Sugar Plum Fairy, Memere 75, Avion en papier. My favorite was definitely the Avion en papier which had a slightly sweet, slightly bitter, citrusy taste. They had a pre fixe menu for Valentine's Day which unfortunately did not have the steak tartare i was interested in trying. But for $88, you get 3 courses: an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For our appetizers, we got the TARTARE DE THON (tuna tartare) and COCKTAIL DE CREVETTES GEANTES (shirmp cocktail). Between the two, i preferred the tuna tartare. The shrimp cocktail was good, but the only thing really special about it was the massive size of the shrimp and the freshly grated horseradish in the cocktail sauce. For our entrees, we got the CASSOULET DE CANARD and FILET MIGNON. The extremely tender duck leg confit was served with pancetta, white beans, toulouse sausage, and foie gras breadcrumb. It was rich, savory, fatty, and filling. All great words to describe food. The duck leg confit reminded me a little bit of a smoked turkey leg with the red coloring and shreddable texture. The filet mignon was served with pomme purée, wild mushrooms, and a bordelaise sauce. The filet was cooked medium rare as requested, but a bit under salted. The pomme purée aka mashed potatoes tasted like it was 50% butter so it was obviously delicious. Dessert was good, but my least favorite part of the meal. We got the TAHITIAN VANILLA CRÈME BRÛLÉE and the VALRHONA CHOCOLAT POT AU CRÈME. Both were very sweet. The brûlée crust did not shatter well, but it otherwise had a nice creamy texture. The chocolate pot was covered in flaky feuilletine which gave a nice contrast to the creamy chocolate, but my wife found the brandied cherries overpowering. The cherries made me think of German chocolate cake. Service was excellent. Staff was quick to refill water and checked on us constantly. Pace of the meal was relaxed and I'd even say they were slow to bring us the check since we had been dining for over 2 hours. My wife wants me to bring her back for their bottomless brunch on a Sunday so I will eventually be back.

Over the hill and under the bridge. My journeys... nay... my conquests took me to Schraalenburgh…read moreroad earlier this 2025. My writings took me elsewhere in between then and now but I close the year with a score for "The Hill." The hills were rolling with endless space for me and my constituents to graze. We stretched out for a late lunch / early dinner (depending what type of guy / gal / etc you are). Not sure what led us down this path, but it was obviously the less traveled. We ate solo. The attention of the staff was, as you could expect, grand... yet still a tad slow on the food. Questionable, but I didn't ask the question. Questions need answers, and if you want to stop questions you stuff someone's mouth. They stuff your mouth alright. The calamari is not only tasty, but plentiful. A plate overfilling with calama you wonder what lovely inland jersey pond they rescued this quantity from. We got a side of fries to share, same story, but carb based. Clearly no potato famine in the near future. We finished off our finishings with a steak, some rigatoni and the duck. I always order best so I can't fully judge the other dishes. Clearly, I ordered the duck - Man of class and integrity. The steak was apparently a 4.5/5. The pasta was apparently a 3.5/5. But the Duck was a 5/5. Beautifully cooked, wonderfully presented and just filling enough. So - for me - I had a five star midday experience. But everyday is a 5/5 for me. I'm happy. I'm charming. I'm brilliant. Linguini B is undoubtedly ready to run up The Hill again in the near future. Knees high, head down, on the balls of my feet... ready for whatever comes my way.

The express lunch was a very reasonable price for 3 courses. Even before that, the complementary cheesy bread was an A+. In addition to that, the French onion soup was perfectly broiled cheese on the savory onion taste beneath. The lamb shank was a pretty special dish with a tasty blend of tender meet and orzo with just the right amount of feta cheese sprinkled on. It was enough for two meals and barely fit into their boxes. Because I was so full, I got the tiramisu to go, but maybe because it's not going to have the same presentation as in person, but it looked pretty smushed up when it came in the to go box when I got it (so not due to transportation). Only mediocre note of the night, but it still tasted good. The menu had a lot of options so there were many dishes that appealed to everyone. I never had an empty glass of water. Everything tasted high quality. Definitely a great lunch experience for everyone.

What a lovely surprise to find Aurora Restaurant nearby after living in the area for so many years…read more The service is excellent and attentive and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Our party of seven were well taken care of and our selections of specials and regular menu items were all excellent. Appetizers were very good - the calamari was light and crispy and the baked clams were well seasoned and delicious but could benefit from a little crisp under the broiler. The tuna was cooked to perfection and paired beautifully with the wasabi soy ribbon beautifully surrounding the plate. The halibut was perfectly cooked but lacked the spice kick that the picante promised; however the sauce was delicious. This was a wonderful dining experience and we look forward to our return.
