This is one of those places that feels "like home" especially around this time of year. You feel like you step back in time when you take a look at the building it's absolutely beautiful. Trust me the menu and the bar are completely up-to-date.! We always start with the cauliflower appetizer. It is the best one in the area. The cauliflower is crisp. There's no heavy breading. It just really is a good choice, especially for those of us that do not eat meat. I hope they keep them on the menu forever. Hubby loves the tuna poke bowl. My favorite are the salmon burgers they make them a few different ways and last night. I had them with avocado and firecracker sauce and they were out of this world. I also like the salmon tower. This just really is a great little place. You can go for a girls night, you could bring your family, just about anything you can think of would be a match for here oh, and one of my favorite touches as the fact that you can grab a bowl and serve yourself some freshly popped popcorn ! read more

We needed a place that was halfway between my sister's family and my own, and settled on the Allendale B&G. First, the good. My daughter and I shared an order of Buffalo wings and they were great. She followed that up with a solid chicken parmigiana. In the downside, my wife's turkey wrap and my chili were just average. The waitress was attentive but the kitchen was quite backed up and the amount of talking that I had to do with my brother in law reflected it. All in all, it's...fine. Having been coming here occasionally over the years, I had come to expect some familiarity with the menu. So it was not to say the least that I was rather disappointed with our group's consensus on how dinner tasted. Throughout the meal, service was fairly good and responsive and there is always complimentary popcorn to munch on while you're waiting. That being said, my wife's French onion soup was anything but a soup - it felt more like water than a flavorful broth to the point where my wife couldn't eat it. Fortunately the waitress took it back and took off the charge. I ordered the prime rib which was probably doomed before the chef had a chance to cook it. The recipe calls for little to no salt, so the prime rib tastes rather bland (although cooked to the right medium rare temperature). That itself wouldn't be so bad if not for the boiled broccoli and mashed potatoes (which by themselves tasted good) also leaving something to be desired in terms of salt. Nonetheless, I tried some of my wife's ribeye, and it was clear the alcohol wasn't burned off and something along those lines effective ruined the flavor profile. My kids' spaghettis came with a good helping of noodles but barely any spaghetti sauce! I'm not sure if it's a change in management or not, but the recipes all seemed off even though the cooking temperatures were fairly spit on. read more

Great lunch at Allendale bar and grill. Everything was delicious, the double smash burger had cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion, it was so juicy. The monkfish sandwich had lettuce, tomato and remoulade, fried to perfection. The Godfather as always was so good and sweet potato fries were so crispy and delicious. Our first time there but we often go to their sister restaurant Mahwah bar and grill. Both are equally delicious. read more

The Allendale Bar & Grill (ABG) is one of my favorite local spots, especially for lunch in downtown Allendale. The atmosphere is welcoming, and it's always a reliable choice for a great meal. One thing I really appreciate is how many gluten-free options they offer--it's so nice to have a variety to choose from! And all of the GF options here are delicious! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that service can occasionally be a bit slow during busy times, but overall it's a fantastic spot that I keep coming back to. It's my go to option over their mahwah location as I just find it is a better ambiance and energy. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! read more

Interesting....we come here infrequently enough that will now be scarcely. We waited at our table for 20 minutes for the waitress to come over then another 20 for our drinks. The place wasn't packed and the crowd should be something she is used to. She walked right by our table several times and didn't even stop to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. I also noticed two children under 10 sitting at the bar and also two kids that looked like they were 12 as bus boys. We ordered our food which was typical bar food it wasn't anything that blew my mind away and got a pizza to go. The 12-year-old brought us the pizza and it's not his fault he's still young but someone in the back could have put parchment paper underneath the pizza so that it didn't stick to the cardboard. The pizza came and was all mushed together. We had already paid so obviously no one's going to come to our table so we just walked out and will never go back. I am honestly scared to eat the pizza because I don't know what particles from the cardboard melted onto the pizza. read more

We came back to this place because we had a good experience but this time not so much. My husband had the smash burger which was great but I had the prime rib queen as just and I could not cut it let alone eat it. Sometimes meals don't come out as planned... I get it but the service is what made me go down on stars. The server did not check on us or return until it was time to clear my dish. She didn't notice I didn't eat my steak which was obvious. We like the atmosphere so we will go back but order the classics - burgers and wings. read more

Had lunch again at ABG! Kristen was our amazing server and took great care of us. I have eaten here for years but never tried the chicken salad but saw someone at the table next to me get it. It was excellent! Also got a cup of the lentil and Bavarian wurst soup which was great! I always love how I can find a German Food item on the menu most weeks. My husband and I met some friends there. I haven't been to AB&G's in years. It was a Friday night. Lots of families. Very noisy. The food was good. My husband and I both had the French Dip. It was good. They should use a better bread. I'm not a fan of having bread stuck in my teeth and the roof of my mouth. My wife, son and I went in for an early dinner today. Our Server was very polite and made us feel welcome. Unfortunately; somehow my wife didn't get the "Special" burger she order instead got another tasty & delicious burger. Our Sever spoke with her Manager and he was so nice and apologetic about the mishap and took the burger off the bill completely. Now we didn't want a free burger (just wanted to pay for what we got), however that small gesture and the way our Sever and Manager handled it is why we look forward to going back! A staple in the town of allendale. See a lot of mixed reviews on this place and don't get it. It's what I would consider your typical dive bar. It's got great Bar food. Wings burgers salads. If you're coming here looking for some culinary experience you're in the wrong place. My burgers are always cooked just the way I like them. The bartenders are very nice make my drink the way I like it. It's exactly what I would expect from them. Show up on a big game night or a Friday or Saturday night expect to wait. First time here and not impressed. Staff did not wear masks. We both ordered the sizzling rib eye. Came with french fries. Nothing else. No sauteed onions. No garlic. Steak bland and lots of fatty parts on it. French fries were nothing special. They were under the steak it had absorbed all the grease. No veggies. No sauce. Boring tasting meal. Visited this place a few times during the pandemic when the weather was nice and the numbers were low. First off, their hostess station being outside at the time was a really great precaution. They also had several hand sanitizer stations for guests to use. They spaced the tables out well and they kept a nice ambience with their tents and some outdoor string lighting. The food options are great. As a customer you can tell they take pride in their menu as the dishes always come out looking great and tasting yummy! We've even ordered the same dish a few times and they've held up to the expected consistency. Lastly, their waiters are tentative to your table and need for drinks even with a packed house. Came here for the memories. My father and uncle were truly disappointed. They grew up coming here and it just changed so much. All 3 of our meals were nothing amazing and we have 2 order mess ups on 2 meals and we were given the incorrect sauce as the menu stated. - The 2 open faced chateau steak were off on temperature and it was on a piece of toast underneath. All I need to say is if they advertised Worcestershire butter sauce they missed it on both. We asked for the sauce and they just gave us a regular Worcestershire bottle. The meat was tender but definitely needed the sauce. Came with this giant broccoli and fries that were not seasoned even with a grain of salt. - Seared scallop stir fry we did not realize when an appetizer but they should have been looked at the size of my father and confirmed he wanted an appetizer for his entree but they didn't. We said something and From $18.99 to $25.99 to only add rice and a few more scallops.... They didn't add any more Ponzu sauce to the dish, it was just dry rice. We are not a picky family by NO MEANS and at the end of the day it was truly a disappointment. It was so loud it was obnoxious, we could barely hear each other. read more

Well this was a disappointing meal on Easter, both my daughters food and mine were dried out. Yes dried out chicken and dried out fish. I asked for a glass of wine, he even told me the specific wine I was getting and it never showed up. That was fine didn't need it anyway. So my daughter had wings, I went up to get wet wipes (didn't have any) or more napkins and the hostess said I couldn't have the full sized napkins because "they are the ones we use for table settings" duh we are sitting at a table and proceeded to give me cocktail napkins! I mean obviously it was a staff that was inexperienced. Sad ,I do like MB&G but AB&G not so much! read more

TSat at the bar, watched sports, had a few drinks and shared an appetizer with the Mrs. Too many places today don't let you or charge extra for sharing an entree. I'm so glad this place is 25 min away or else I'd be here almost every night. Cozy atmosphere, great bartenders and friendly patrons at the bar. If anyone else is still playing Pokémon Go - you can reach 3 stops while sitting at the bar! The AB&G drink specials have something for everyone. The Bourbon Honey Bee is prob my fav drink ever right now. I feel like it's the summer version of a hot toddy. Just makes you feel good. My husband just got a Yuengling, but the pint glasses are clean and the beers are crisp! We came in around 5pm on a Monday night. The bar was pretty filled, but we were able to snag the last 2 seats at the end. The hostess did mention there was another bar on the second floor, but I was lazy and saw the opening at the main one. The bartender was super attentive and friendly. The others at the bar were there for a birthday, so she was busy with them, but always made time to check up on us. They timed the food delivery perfectly. We started with the Buffalo calamari, which was hotter than most Buffalo sauces we're used to, but still delicious. Then our sandwiches came out. The Franklin Turnpike will change your life. I kinda wish I got it without mushrooms (I'm not a huge fan), but honestly the flavors all work together so well - it's mind blowing. My husband got The Godfather and said it was good! He's a man of few words - unlike me lol The only reason I can't give this place 5 stars is because of some of the staff. My husband and I were seated right next to wear the bartender drops the drinks for the servers to pick up for their tables. There was a lot of gossiping/cussing happening throughout my meal. I know they're all probably in their late teens/early 20's, but they were having a very candid and unprofessional conversation that the manager prob wouldn't appreciate customers hearing. Wow, wowwww! Safe to safe I haven't had one bad dish here yet!! One of my favorite places to get Buffalo wings!! The short rib they have on the specials menu was amazing and I really hope they put it on the regular menu! We come here as a family and everyone is satisfied with their meals. This is your straightforward bar and grill with that type of grub. I went with my favorite bar/grill/diner item of all time the reuben! They call it the ma connelly reuben and it was pretty good. The meat had good flavor with just the right amount sourness from the sauerkraut. It came with the fries and they were also done right. They tasted fresh and fried just enough where they weren't oily. My wife had the sweet potato fries and they were the same way. We started with the boneless chicken tenders and they were delicious. Try them with the honey bbq sauce. The godfather is also delicious. It is like a french dip with sauteed onions. I would order all items again. We had some beers with our meal and they were served cold. We comfortably sat outside and had a good time. Very good service with a lot of people checking on us. Closer to 2.5. Items are hit and miss. Our server wasn't bad but could use more training, he checked on us once maybe twice but we had to ask for extra napkins, utensils & refills. The mimosa had a lot ice and watered down midway through the drink. Honey boneless wings, Cole slaw and crab cakes were good. 2 of 4 pretzels were burnt, the burger was dry and the sweet potato fries did not have any seasoning. Our argument was not the bartenders business and when I wanted another drink we were asked to leave followed outside by a manger owner who threatened to call the cops if I drove even though I had the same drink as my husband. Then proceeded to ask me why I didn't tip the bartender. Bartenders that ask people to leave after one drink because she didn't like what she heard between 2 married people dose not deserve to be yippies and that's from a life long server.bartender. Her business is to mind her business and serve drinks she was not invited into my conversation the place was empty so she heard way more than was her business,. I took my business to Houlihans and this is my receipt & tip. $50 check $15on the tip. I tip everybody because I've spent my life living in my tips. Her loss there a million restaurants in North Jersey & I will spend my money anyplace except here & the restaurant I own I will make it my business & the business or all my other employees to never recommend the establishment not even for a late night after dinner drink.when people say how is AB&G the answer is save your Money there are easily 100other places around here better and I'm going to compile that list and hand it out to inquiring customers so they can have fun without a busy body bartender.
