Supposedly the best restaurant in this small town. I had enchiladas with red and green sauce; husband had chicken tacos. It was ok. There was too much mildly flavored sauce on my plate, however, this is New Mexico, not Texas. Very crowded, but has an outdoor area too (good for kids). You can order an extra patty. The burgers are juicy & perfectly cooked. The extreme breakfast burrito is "extreme"-ly delicious & gigantic. The food is well worth the price. The food is great, and restaurant is clean. The server was kind, but everything was slooooow. I've been here twice over the course of several months. Both times we sat down and waited awhile for anyone to come by with menus and get drink orders. Both times several groups of locals came in after we sat down and got menus, then drinks, and then food before us. (I knew they were locals because the server knew them by name each time). I'd love for them to get their act together because the food is great and it's a good place for a stop, but I don't have time to sit and wait for an hour. They're obviously able to move quicker, it seems that it's only for locals. The food is 5 stars, but the service knocks them down to 3. read more

We travel through Clayton often but usually only there to sleep, never at meal time. Fortunately this time we passed through, we needed dinner and were lucky enough to find the 87 Restaurant! The food was amazing and service was prompt and everyone was very friendly. We let the waitress suggest meals for us based on a couple of things we chose off the menu and every suggestion she made was on point! I had the fried catfish filet which was huge and delicious and my husband had the burger...equally huge and delicious. Just okay. Burgers lacked seasoning and taste. Price seems ok at first but there's an upcharge of $1.59 for fries, which were soggy. Service wasn't the friendliest I've had. The food came out fast but missing some of the fixings for the burger. In the end, it was not a good experience. read more

Stopped there with the family on a Sunday morning on our way from Texas to Colorado. Our server Lilly was very attentive. The food was served quickly, hot, and delicious. The green chili rocked. The lady across the street told me about this new place that's only 4 months old and I'm glad she did...Food was great choice of 3 sauces for your chili burger. Service was fast, waitresses were friendly. Has a very deceiving well decorated rustic look inside and the place is clean. We were on our way back from a trip to Colorado and decided on 87 Cafe based on Yelp reviews and boy are we glad we stopped! The Salisbury Steak was top notch...we all know that most small town diners are going to have this on the menu and it's usually fair to good, but I'm talking about a giant, grade A beef hamburger steak with lots of brown gravy, onions and mushrooms served with delicious steak fries and homemade green beans. The stacked cheese enchiladas with 1/2 red chile and 1/2 green chile sauce (the best I've ever tasted) served with rice and pinto beans were excellent and made from scratch. Food is cooked as you order so it will take 5min longer then mc donalds and that is very good! Restaurant is small but seats manny i also like that ! Really do NOT recommend. The Cobb salad was mostly iceberg lettuce with a couple tomatoes, a couple hard boiled eggs, chicken that tasted like it was canned, and a dab of guacamole. Little flavor. The nachos supreme had no flavor whatsoever, even when I asked for more jalapenos on the side. My daughter and I shared the Supreme Nachos, which were delicious and stacked up high! The chips were fried in-house, the cheese was fresh grated, and all the toppings were fresh. We ate till we were stuffed and still took a box home with us. Very, very good food! The patio was shady and nice, with ceiling fans and everything super clean. Driving through on our way to Denver, CO and stopped for the night. Our hotel recommended this restaurant and it was a great choice. At this time we are still dealing with the COVID 19 and they were very clean and each table, chair and item on table was wiped down before the next customer was sat. This was absolutely the worst service I have had in a long time. To start, we had just pulled into NM after an 8hr drive and we're starving. Upon entering there is NO sign telling you to seat yourself and when we asked, the woman acted as if we were such an inconvenience and huffed at us to sit anywhere. There were several people come in after us, each table was offered chips and salsa, we never were. After waiting what seemed like an eternity, we received our food - basically tossed down on our table; the food was alright but seriously nothing to rave about. We had to actually get up and go to the edge of the kitchen to ask for our ticket. We stopped in town overnight and decided to have dinner here because of all the options on their menu (I have a very picky teenager). Service was excellent, and everything ordered was delicious! We got into Clayton late after driving all day. We ran across the street thinking we'd have to find something for dinner at the Loves truck stop. However, this restaurant still had their open sign on even though it was 8:50 on. Sunday night. They welcomed us in and were very friendly. The food was amazing! My daughter got the chicken strips and fries. The fries were fresh cut even and the strips were huge. I had the tacos and you could tell these were hand made.
