This is some of the best American Chinese food you will have in the city. There's a lot of Chinese restaurants in Houston, but lots of them are not great. This is one of the great ones. Nelson was great, top-notch customer service. Food: some of the best general tsos chicken I've ever had. It was fried to perfection, and the flavor was simply amazing. This was probably my favorite general so chicken I've ever had seriously it's that good. The fried rice is amazing. The eggrolls are so good. I ordered two of them. Also, the hot and sour soup is probably the best I've ever had. I will add this. The dry noodle they brought out were stale and kind of old. That is the only thing I would suggest that they fix other than that. It was an easy five star experience. Nelson was great. He was quite funny and very personable. He brought our food out in a timely manner. I would say this is a hidden gem, but it's right off the freeway so it's really not hidden but it's amazing. Do yourself a favor, stop in and give them a try. I will come back soon.

**This review is based on a couple of pick-up orders.** The 888 recipes are good across the board, and this location is no different. The eggplant on both visits was cooked to perfection, but the General Tso's was on the dry side. House Fried Rice here is average; the Sesame Shrimp Rolls are a fun bite. Hot & Sour soup at 888 is better than average, though I tend to have to doctor it with some chile oil (provided by the restaurant). The people here are polite, and the place is clean. I'll continue to return when I'm jonesing for some Americanized Chinese (and authentic Chinese too).

Very average. Food was ordered to-go. My husband had the chicken lo mien & tso chicken, he loved it! His food looked & smelt good. It was clean inside & outside even with it sharing a massive lot several others. The sesame beef I had was sesame jerky. It was tough as hell. Ya'll wrong! Taste was good but no. I had to microwave that mess to make it edible, cutting gums & everything. Also they offer you 3 different soups with the lunch & all are made with Pork broth, buuuuuuuuuut someone on here advertised that they had plenty of Vegetarian options. Not likely, if they got pork in the egg drop idk what else they got with that in it. Pretty sure they have pork in ALL the soups & much more. But don't hold that last part against them unless you're veggie-friendly. That's me & my pork-aversion self. Now that beef. NO. SHAME ON YOU. Use a different cut, marinate or something!

Accustomed to the 888 at 646 on the border of League City and Dickinson, there's nothing that jumps right off the page when it comes to this location. The food was fine though the chicken wings we ordered leaned toward the bland side and the Diced Chicken with Hot Pepper was more of the latter. The Combination Fried Rice here, however, is just as delicious as the one served in League City. The lights were too dim for my liking and there was a slightly strong smell of cleaning solution. Good thing the server did his job.

One of my fave Chinese restaurants due to its quality and variety. I appreciate that they give great portion sizes and the food always tastes good. I've tried a lot of different dishes and have not been disappointed! My favorite is the pepper steak as their seafood soup. Can't go wrong with the wonton soup. The location has a small parking lot. The ambient is fine and they have good customer service. I would advise against sitting by the tables close to the bathroom.

Fairly large medium sized restaurant, pleasant wait staff. Older building, not much flare, but the food and portions make up for that. Shrimp fried rice - Tender, hot & full of shrimp Orange chicken - Lunch portion is larger than your normal dinner portion at a normal Chinese place which is great. Sweet & tangy sauce, nothing wrong here. Kung Pao chicken - Same large portion, nice and sweet also but with a little spice, not too much tough. Soups - Wonton, full of large big stuffed wontons, tasty salty broth a great compliment to the meat in the wontons. Egg drop soup, full of egg, piping hot, nice thickness to the broth, not super watery. Try them out you'll enjoy that.

Ordered chicken and broccoli with sides of white and fried rice, and it was pretty good. Would definitely go back for a dinner time pick up again. Nice place inside and service was organized and friendly.

Old & STALE 12. Crab Puff

I ordered takeout. They sold me old & STALE Crab puffs. I should have bought Panda Express! when I called the front staff was not helpful. I was not able to bite into the puffs. When I called to ask if I could get a credit for something else they said no that the only thing I could get was crab puffs but I don't want to order them again after this. They think that it's easy to go back to the store in this economy spending gas which is outrageous. I don't even want to purchase from them anymore. Check your food before you leave

An excellent Chinese restaurant. A true gem. Rather than a buffet, you order off the menu and receive hot and fresh delicious food. I found this place using Yelp, and I am pleased to say it more than lived up to the four stars others awarded it. There's plenty of parking. A friend and I went for lunch and were shown to a table promptly. I was impressed with the decor and ambience. The background music was as it should be, in the background. We were able to have a great conversation as we enjoyed our meal. I have been to fancier places, but this was still very nice and clean. Nice enough I would gladly take my wife here for a date. Our server did a great job and checked on us periodically. When it was time to leave I asked if it were possible to get a refill of my iced tea to go, and he gladly obliged. The menu is quite extensive with something for everybody. The prices are excellent. The portions are very generous. I ordered a lunch special which included an entrée, fried rice, soup, or an egg roll. Usually lunch special portions are smaller, but I could not finish mine. It easily could have been split between two people. I really enjoyed the Szechuan beef and the egg roll. My friend ordered the Kung Pau chicken and seem to enjoy that too. My experience was very positive all the way around and I would love to return. Too bad I live seven hours away. But when I am in the area again I will certainly keep this place at the top of my list for Asian cuisine.

I love 888! Lots of vegetarian options and they make sure to double check if you eat egg or not. We got the szechuan bean curd (tofu) which is pretty much the same thing as ma po tofu. Fried rice on the side was super flavorful. The dish that stood out the most was the eggplant- absolutely delicious!! I highly recommend it- even if you don't like eggplant! They did a very good job of cooking it!

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

Also weird how they don't have any drinks on the menu or let you know about options. Could I have asked for something else? Sure but again waitresses were just all over the place it was crazy. When we ordered and others food was coming out we realized what big portions they give you. BTW just 'cus it's big portions doesn't mean This food is about to be the best Ive ever had. The food- We got some shrimp plate and we were told it was spicy because it has peppers and peppercorns which would numb your tongue which it was just basic shrimp dish. Only good or cool part of it was eating lotus root which Ive never had before. We also ordered the "special" house beef noodles and I don't see the hype or why they're so special. The only crazy part was the noodles length. Which honestly made it hard to eat. We ordered the duck which came with the soup. The soup was made from scraps. I think if they had added more duck and not just scraps it would be my fav thing of everything we ordered. Will say it tasted like chicken soup. For the duck. It wasn't as crispy as people made it seem to be. I expect idk a more gamey flavor to it and all I kept saying is-This taste like pork carnitas. Idk why we got treated than the table behind us. We asked for to go just like they do but they just gave them their to-go plates like Here ya go and they put all of our food in our to-go for us. Would I go back? Its one of those you say- Ok I've had it,had the duck, don't get the hype but ok not worth coming back again for more.

Lucky for me, they have their own parking lot, which already made everything super convenient. I walked in around 1:30 PM and was back out by 1:55 PM, so the service is definitely fast and friendly; perfect for a lunch break. The lunch menu has a huge variety of options, and every plate comes with fried rice and a pretty big egg roll. I honestly didn't know what to expect, but the quality of the food was fantastic. I can totally see how they've stayed open for 50+ years. I ordered the beef and broccoli... which honestly should be renamed to beef and vegetables, because it came with broccoli, carrots, and onions. Not complaining, though! The beef was tender and kind of reminded me of a beef fajita texture with how flakey and tender it was. The sauce was savory with garlic and soy sauce flavors and I really liked it. The veggies were cooked perfectly for my taste: still a little crunchy and not soggy. My only complaint was the onion. They were a bit too crunchy and raw, which made them super spicy and pungent, so I just moved them to the side. The egg roll was good, too! It tasted freshly made with cabbage that still had some crunch, which I love. Portion-wise, it was absolutely perfect. I finished everything except the onions and left feeling satisfied. Not heavy and not carrying leftovers, which I appreciate because some Chinese spots over serve. I paid about $20 including tip. Overall, I would 100% recommend this place and would definitely come back for lunch again.

Dry Fried Green Beans 5/5- these are the best green beans I have had in my life! I am not exaggerating like I will be thinking about these green beans all week. Do not hesitate to try these. Perfectly salty and good amount of crunch still left. The flavors they used are just perfect. Colorful Beef 4/5- The texture of the beef was so tender and not chewy at all like other places. The flavor was bright and the bell peppers were cooked through well. The issue I had with this dish was the sichuan peppercorns. I was just eating and not really looking at it super closely so I got a mouth full of these peppercorns and wow it was actually horrible. Just beware because the texture of these things are god awful and I think that they should be taken out like how a bay leaf is removed before serving. It was just really intense and it almost ruined the dish for me honestly. Other than that a great dish. My mouth was so numb but worth it. Dandan noodles 2/5- This was my first time trying this dish anywhere and I did not really enjoy it at all. The sesame flavor was really strong and it wasn't really salted at all. Very strange flavor. I will not order this again, however I do believe that the execution on this dish is great. There was a lot of sauce and the noodles were cooked well. I just really wish I liked the flavor of this dish and that's a personal problem. This dish also made my mouth numb but the flavor did not make it worth it. I wanted to like these so badly but I just couldn't do it. I will be back!

We ordered quite a bit of food, and everything came out quickly. The staff were attentive and friendly, and overall, the food was decent. My favorite dish was the Chicken Steamed Dumplings. I usually prefer pork dumplings, but these were surprisingly tasty. The wrappers were on the thicker side, which I personally enjoy, the filling was moist, and the sauce was packed with flavor. I also ordered the Beef Noodle Soup. The portion of noodles and beef was generous, but I thought the broth lacked depth and had far too much chili oil. Instead of providing a pleasant spice, the excess oil left a greasy coating in my throat that actually made me cough. The other dishes were less impressive. The Pork Bao tasted like they had been frozen and reheated, with slightly soggy, overcooked buns and a filling that lacked flavor. The Egg Rolls were also extremely small and had that same frozen, store-bought quality. Overall, the service was great and there were a few solid dishes, especially the chicken dumplings, but too many of the items tasted like frozen or pre-prepared food. I would come back for the dumplings, but I would probably skip most of the other dishes.

There was a good amount of seating for that area of town but not a ton! --- Foods--- We really loved the wonton soup and mama's dumplings (gyoza basically). Both had a surprising amount of flavor. Especially the soup as this can be kinda plain at other places. We also tried soup dumplings which unfortunately stuck to the pan so we missed on the soup but the pork inside was lovely. Pricing was very resonable. ---Service--- to the point -- friendly but limited - ---Overall--- Looking forward to trying more dishes here!

We were seated towards the back of the restaurant and it was uncomfortably warm. I don't remember our server's name but she was nice. I started with a Lychee Martini. It was very good and very strong. For apps we ordered the Scallion Pancakes and the BBQ Pork Buns. The Scallion Pancakes were very good, but once they cooled down, it didn't taste nearly as good. I enjoyed the BBQ Pork Buns too. For entrées I had the Salt Pepper Fish Slices while my friend went with the Ingenious Fried Beef. The Fish Slices were very seasoned and flavorful, but a bit dry. The batter was good and I really enjoyed the peppers and onions that accompanied the dish. I think a dipping sauce would have helped. My friend enjoyed the Fried Beef. They have quite a few locations around town if you don't want to venture into the downtown area. If you're near the Theater District, Cooking Girl is a great dining option.
