This is not prices you'll find in Chinatown, but it will do since it's in the suburbs. 3. Ambiance - this place is cute, and a nice place to have dinner after a long work day. 4. Food - the food is not bad. I recommend their MA PO TOFU dish. It's soft and spicy. That's a legit Chinese dish. Another one, I also recommend, is their MONGOLIAN BEEF. I was initially excited for this new 888 location to open but a bit disappointed with the mediocracy of the food. Perhaps I had really high hopes and expectations but upon trying the foods, it was disappointing. The quality of the food did not match the high prices on the menu. We started off with the spring rolls, edamame beans and proceeded to order the sweet and sour chicken and the Kung Pao chicken. The spring rolls were oily and a bit bland. The edamame was good and was not too salty. Unfortunately the sweet and sour chicken was mainly just oily breading with tidbits of meat in it which, it was very disappointing. The Kung Pao chicken sauce was good but unfortunately it was more vegetables than meat, so I really wasnt getting what we paid for. *I felt as if they really held back on using meats and just used everything else such as the deep fry or vegetables to compensate to fill up space on our plates. I will confirm though the staff was friendly and the restaurant was kept clean. Overall, this was a very disappointing Chinese restaurant to spend my money on. With so many alternative Chinese restaurants to visit, I will not be visiting 888 Chinese restaurant again and I cannot recommend it. read more

This place has been open in our neighborhood for a little over a month. We came in for dinner the other night to try it out. Ordered the chicken dumplings in spicy sauce and a cup of wonton soup as appetizers, and the Taiwanese Style Rice Noodles and Beef on Sizzling Platter for mains. The difference between the fried and steamed dumplings can be subtle. The fried ones are firm on the bottom. They had a nice texture. The sauce was only a little spicy, mostly a soy sauce flavor with chili oil but it tasted good. The wonton soup had very good flavor, a nice rich broth and tasty wontons. They brought rice crispy noodles with it, which is one of my favorite things on a Chinese menu. The rice noodle dish was basically like a combination fried rice, but with rice noodles. It included pork, chicken, shrimp and egg. The shrimp portion was generous. I like rice noodles and these were pretty good, properly chewy and sticky since they were not in a sauce. The beef on sizzling platter was an adventure. It's basically Asian style fajitas, except no tortillas. The platter was super hot and the beef was really sizzling--so much so that the servers were afraid of it and I thought for a second it was going to go in our laps. Hot is great but this actually overcooked the beef a little. The sauce was a sweet sauce with pepper, a basic flavor but quite good. I would get that again. The servers were very polite and enthusiastic. The decor is basic but comfortable. I would say that the food is cooked and spiced not to offend. If you like standard American-style Chinese food this would be a perfect place for you. No need to fear the spicy dishes unless you are very sensitive. I'm rounding up 3.5 stars. read more

The egg roll was good but I really loved the pork dumplings and sauce; I would def go back just for the dumplings. The general tso chicken was okay, I probably wouldn't order it again. Flavor was kind of lacking and I didn't care for the broccoli and bell peppers mixed into it. That's the first time a restaurant added those veggies into the general tso chicken for me and it just threw the taste off in my opinion. The service was good. House lo mein was good. Veggie fried rice was quite bland. Any veggies were cut small and had a lot of onions that weren't tender. The chicken with vegetables was flavorful but the chicken was a bit rubbery. The sweet and sour chicken was good but had a lot of bell peppers and onions and should have more chicken instead. Ordered take out from here for lunch today as I had tried their other locations before and was so excited they were now in my area. Even though we live 15 minutes away, the food was still piping hot when we got home. I had the wonton soup, and my husband had the hot and sour. Both soups were really pretty good and still hot as previously mentioned. We also got the dumplings (pan fried) which were fantastic and the dumpling sauce was also great. My favorite part about Chinese food is egg rolls, so I was super excited to have one. The egg roll itself was ok, I feel like there could have been more filling inside. The weird part was the sweet and sour sauce I ordered a side of was legit full on liquid..it seriously looked like koolaid. Normaly sweet and sour is a lot thicker than that. The kung pao Chicken I ordered for my main course was flavorless and was mostly veggies. My husband got the special Pad Thai that has chicken shrimp and beef in it. The noodles were over cooked and the sauce on the pad Thai was barely there. I was super disappointed because I used to love 888. The food is amazing, but be sure to specify the level of spiciness you prefer. They are very accommodating. I have been here 7 or 8 times and always treated so well! They now know what I like and the drinks meet us at the table as we sit down. Customer service here is top notch! The ambiance with the high back booths allow for some privacy as one may need.
