Wow, I honestly didn't know what to expect with this place. Michelin recognized...James Beard winner...in the most unassuming location. First, it's a freaking shopping strip with trash parking. That's the only complaint...oh and pretty warm inside but we are in the Texas heat. However - the food and experience was impeccable!! We got the bluefin tuna tostadas (10/10), Grilled Octopus & bone marrow (10/10), potato & queso empanada with caviar and crème fraiche (8/10), peach & burrata (9.5/10) as the appetizers and I can confidently say I was already blown away. Then we got the Wagyu Carne Asada (10/10), Duck two ways (9/10) and the Street corn agnolotti (8/10). Nothing was bad. it was all so good and I now see why there's so much recognition around this place. The service was great, the ambiance was unassuming, the food was perfection, and lowkey - I'm going back in the fall for next season's menu. Kudos to this place bc holy shit. Took a drive (1 hour, one way from southwest Houston) to get to the restaurant which is located in a strip center and somewhat nondescript. Parking was expected to be an issue as the lot is shared with other businesses in the center, but was not an issue for an early evening Saturday. But parking can be an issue at times, I was told. The restaurant is small with only tables and maybe 4-5 seats at the small bar. We arrived about 15 minutes before our 6:45pm reservation and had to wait due to no available tables, but that was not a showstopper. The noise level was moderate throughout our stay such that one could easily carry on a conversation with table mates without having to scream. Almost all patrons were nicely dressed. Since this is a Michelin acknowledged restaurant two years in a row, we were expecting uniqueness and we were not disappointed. That said, food was very good, but I would not rate it as spectacular. The blue fin tuna tostados were delightful and hands down the best dish we had. Ceviche mixto was excellent with a just a hint of heat. I would order these two appetizer dishes again. Main courses consisted of duck 2 ways, redfish with green mole and risotto, spring cavatelli, and grilled shrimp & pork belly. All were delicious and uniquely tasty with the exception of the duck. Mind you, I really like duck and the sliced portions were excellent and perfectly seasoned and moist, but the pate-like accompaniment was not that good, plus the mole sauce was not what I was expecting. Table sides of Brussels sprouts and fried cauliflower were good but nothing special. The Eton Mess with strawberries was simply delicious. Would I go back? Maybe, but not anytime soon. read more

Don't let the area fool you. The inside of this restaurant has a nice, upscale ambiance. Even though it's located in a sketchier area, the interior is thoughtfully decorated and feels much more refined than you would expect. My party of two arrived at our reservation time, and although I could see our table was ready, we still had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. That said, it was clear the staff was taking extra care to prepare each table, even wiping down every chair. It's rare to see that level of attention to detail. Once we were seated, it took a while for our server to come by. We were already ready to order by the time he greeted us, and the food also took some time to arrive. As for the food, the standout dishes were the Half Chicken and the Birria Quesotacos. The chicken could have used a bit more flavor, but it was incredibly tender and juicy, which I would take over dry but well seasoned chicken any day. The birria tacos were solid and exactly what you would expect, hard to go wrong there. The dishes I would skip next time are the Fried Cauliflower and the Grilled Octopus with Bone Marrow. The cauliflower was overpoweringly salty and quite oily, to the point where it became a bit unpleasant. The octopus dish was underwhelming and didn't feel worth the price. Overall, the service was slow. After finishing our meal, we waited about 15 minutes before the server came back to check on us and close out the bill. If you are looking for a more laid back and unhurried dining experience where you can take your time, this place might still be a good fit. read more

This visit was not at the same level as the last. Mainly due to spotty service. Our waiter didn't walk us through the menu until prompted. He disappeared after assuring us he'd check to see if we ordered an appropriate amount after appetizers. He did not. We did not. We had ordered two appetizers but shared the majority of one and quickly realized splitting an entree wouldn't cut it. We needed to add another appetizer or entree - even with dessert. The people delivering & taking plates were less experienced than our previous visit. Dropping entrees off in front of the wrong person and attempting to take plates with food on them. It felt odd and a little disjointed. (Especially since half the tables were empty at the time waiting for the 7:30 reservations I guess - the restaurant did fill back up.) The mole with the duck was the best mole I have had - I typically don't care for mole but this one was complex and paired well with the duck. The birria tacos are still amazing. We tried crab appetizer which was lovely and desserts this time as well - all amazing. My favorite was the tiramisu but, the majority favorite was the banana cake. What was a little less exciting was the pasta. It was just meh - recommend staying with the more traditional Mexican flavored dishes. We will be back again no doubt. This beast's belly is happy. One year later from our last visit and it is great to see that they are still leveling up and knocking our socks off. Came with a group so we could do a lot of family style tasting. Core dishes are still meticulously done to perfection. Presentation is still top notch. The birria tacos, the crispy potatoes, burger, the red fish, ceviche, asada waygu, short rib, and truffle pasta were all fantastic. I think the tacos, the asada and the burger were my favorites. I loved the kick in the ceviche. For dessert we had the tres leches, the banana complex dish, and the strawberry cake thing. All were great, but that tres leches really hit the spot. The atmosphere is very cozy and dark. Good ambiance. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Last time we met the chef and he was really cool. My main disappointment was that we had to wait outside 20-25 minutes after our reservation time for a table to clear up. I hope they can do something about that because I do want to go again but it was Ramadan and after not eating all day. It was disappointing to wait outside that long. It's good to see that they are jam-packed even after adding tables and they kept the level of quality. It's great to have a place of this quality up in our little suburb. Small place, very non descript for a place with these accolades. This was our second time here. The food was on point again. We had a couple apps (they were ok) and split the duck mole and crispy potatoes. The mole here is one of my favs in Houston. It changes a little depending on the season but is always really good. And the potatoes have a flavor profile unlike any other potatoes in Houston. Dessert was strawberry cake and it was very light and not overly sweet. Perfect ending. The service also deserved a mention. It was pouring rain and the only reason I kept my reservation is because it was our anniversary and my wife really wanted to go. We were a little wet when we arrived and the staff was very accommodating to make sure we felt comfortable. They had some champagne for us and made sure to put us in a back table where it was a little more quiet given the occasion. I can't stress enough how good their service was. We just came off visits to two other places we frequent a lot in the Heights area (both are very well known) and the service was a nightmare. Thank you guys for such a great visit! read more

Making my way through the Michelin mentions in the Houston area, I'd been looking forward to this meal for a while. Upon entering, the warm and welcoming greeting from the hostess was genuine and very much appreciated. It's a feeling of arriving at a friend's for a special dinner. From an ambiance standpoint, they do an okay job with their strip center space; however, giving their ceiling (yes, their ceiling) an update would do wonders for the overall aesthetic. This is a detail others in odd strip center locations (Chopnblok, Hidden Omakase) have artfully addressed, and the payoff would be wholly transformative. My server was very friendly and offered a nice overview of the menu. The potato empanadas were an excellent way to start the meal: crispy with a creamy savory center. The shrimp and pork belly appetizer was a tad salty, but the freshness of the romaine cups helped. I was hoping for chunks or nuggets of pork belly and found what appeared to be bacon pieces, which was underwhelming. The octopus and bone marrow appetizer was interesting, but I think they would be better served individually. I loved that the bone marrow could be eaten in delectable bites with a spoon. The octopus tart was unremarkable in flavors but offered nice play on textures. The Tagliatelle was silky, luxurious and decadent. It was definitely a highlight. Also outstanding was the perfectly prepared Wagyu Carne Asada whose accompanying refried beans was an elegant expression. That green sauce was absolute magic and further elevated the already delicious flavors of the dish. I didn't have room for dessert..: maybe next time. The fall menu is mouthwateringly delicious. From the anything but basic Fall salad (pomegranate seeds, green apples, endives, fig jam) to the Hokkaido scallops on a half shell with a dab of kaluga caviar and closing out our appetizer experience with Spanish octopus, it was an amazing entrance to a meal journey. Followed this with lobster risotto and short rib with fig mole and polenta (and corn tortillas). We ended our journey with a pistachio torte topped with the cutest little fig. Can't wait to try their spring menu!! The ambiance was both inviting yet romantic without being pretentious, which is impressive for a Michellin recognized restaurant. Our sever was kind, helpful, honest with his opinions of dishes, and very understanding of our dietary preferences. I have to admit, as much as I wanted to love this place, some of the flavors just didn't hit the mark for me. The descriptions on the menu didn't quite match what was served, which left me a bit disappointed. I've been to their older location before it closed down and honestly enjoyed that experience much more. I miss the cozy, inviting atmosphere they used to have. This new space feels a bit boxed in with plain white walls and lacks the charm of the original. The scallops on the half shell were something I was really looking forward to... with a more savory and buttery flavor profile. Unfortunately, the dish completely missed the mark for me. The sauce was overly sweet, almost like passion fruit flavor, which just didn't complement the scallops well. The tagliatelle was a better choice flavor-wise, but the chorizo which was basically sliced sausage, felt a bit out of place. It was almost like a quick and easy way of adding a protein to an otherwise elegant dish. The ceviche leaned too heavily on the citrus, making it a bit unbalanced in my opinion. My ultimate favorite was the crispy potatoes! They were perfectly cooked and delicious, though I wish they had been a bit more generous with the sauce. The touch of salmon roe was a clever and lovely addition as it added the right touch of savory-ness! Overall, it was still a pleasant experience, though I definitely recommend making a reservation. Belly of the Beast is the kind of place that makes you rethink what "strip mall dining" means. It earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2024 when Texas finally got its highly anticipated and long-awaited Michelin Guide, and I can absolutely see why. Affordable, high-quality food? Check. The Bib Gourmand name stems from the Michelin man mascot, Bibendum. That's my two-cents Michelin history lesson for you! Chef Thomas Bille even won a James Beard Award this June for Best Chef: Texas. With the next Michelin ceremony happening in Houston on October 28, I wouldn't be shocked if they get upgraded and snag a one star. For those reasons, reservations take 2-4 weeks, so book early. I'd been meaning to go since last year, and my friend finally booked it for us in mid-June. Parking can be tricky on a Friday night. It's about 15 minutes from Spring Cypress/I-45, near the water park. FM 2920 gets busy, and the restaurant sits in a shopping strip next to a Circle K. Don't park in the 30-minute spots between RaKuu and Circle K unless you like living dangerously--I wasn't risking it with my new car. Walking inside, it immediately gave me Tatemo vibes (a one star Michelin spot). Discreet signage and entry, cozy decor, and nice waiting area gave it a warm welcome. It's dark inside but not as dark as Tatemo. Elizabeth Bille, Chef Thomas' wife, greeted me and seated me right away. She checked in throughout the night and remembered my name. That's the kind of personal touch that sticks with you. Heather was our server and a total gem. I ordered everything upfront (required for savory dishes), including a couple starters, entrees, and a side. She even turned the jamaica tea into a mocktail when I mentioned I wished they had mocktail options aside from beer and wine. Food came out fast within 10-15 minutes and just before my friend arrived. Perfect timing. Here's the rundown: Peach & Burrata - Burrata with pistachio, shishito peppers, brown butter, and Fredericksburg peaches. Slight mezcal smokiness. Crispy sourdough. Tremendous starter. I love most cheeses, so this was up my alley. Empanadas de papa y queso - Two small empanadas with crème fraîche, Kaluga caviar, and chives. Comté cheese was sharp but runny. Very hot. Fun to try but not my fave. Seared Pork Belly - Berkshire pork with salsa criolla, mango, and cilantro. Served with corn tortillas and peach habanero salsa. Tender, though some pieces were dry. Missed crispy skin. Tagliatelle - Daily house-made pasta with egg yolk, Spanish chorizo, and mushrooms. Rich, creamy, perfectly al dente. Loved how the noodles soaked up the sauce. Grilled Texas Redfish - Crispy skin, large portion, fresh and tender. Served with warm tortillas for DIY tacos. Crispy Brussels Sprouts - Smaller portion, a bit salty. Bacon and Caesar dressing were rich; pickled onions helped balance it. Jamaica Mocktail- Tea turned into a mocktail with club soda and lime. Served in a wine glass, refreshing and generous. Service was excellent. Water was refilled constantly. A couple hiccups: my friend's silverware was taken by accident and took a while to get new silverware, and later a fork fell and nearly took a stack of dishes with it. I tried nearly everything except the empanadas and redfish and had great leftovers. Elizabeth packed everything carefully making sure everything was there, even the peach habanero salsa (Le Jardinier always forgets the aioli for pommes dauphine!). One suggestion, since all savory dishes must be ordered at once, the kitchen should pace the courses better. Everything arrived at once, and our small table couldn't fit it all. It felt rushed trying to make room. Before leaving, Elizabeth waved and said goodbye. So personable. What's cool was that ABC 13's Gina Gaston was dining there that night. It's a very strange description of "New American" and "Tacos" as it's not really those things. They could definitely update that to a more appropriate description. Maybe just the bomb emoji? Or mouth and explosion emojis, perhaps? I digress. GO HERE! We were scheduled a month out, as this place appears to be quite popular. A week after scheduling we received an update for an earlier time. Within 24 hours we had a dinner plan. And so it begins... The parking lot is a little crowded since they have this joint, a sushi bar, a bar, and a speakeasy all in one strip. The area was poppin on a Saturday night. We had a very small wait before being seated. The staff were very attentive and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. We definitely tested their knowledge, but only because we wanted to order the right half of the menu. And order we did! Empanadas de Papa y Queso These were perfectly crispy, with a thin body, and a deliciously liquid cheese interior. We really like these. It's not heavy, but it is flavorful. Peach & burrata Came in a little iron pot with some bomb toast. Once mixed, this went hard. They even bring out more bread upon request, so don't be shy! Excellent flavors. Birria QuesoTacos This was a solid taco, and I liked it, but might be the last on my list of wows for the evening. Well-stuffed tacos, with a tasty consommé. It also came with a hot sauce that I really enjoyed. What stood out about this dish was really the meat inside of the tacos. Tender, juicy, flavorful. By far my favorite birria tacos to-date. Seared Pork Belly This was solid, but completely elevated when taken in with the garnishing and sauce. Enough for a table of 5 to get two tender slices each. Octopus This was one we really looked forward to, and it did not disappoint. Ceviche Mixtos This was also very good, with distinct flavors mixed in, versus a mixed flavor of all items. I normally don't do go for ceviche, but I would definitely order this one again. Tagliatelle This. Was. Awesome! Serves eith a yolk atop the pile of noods, once mixed this had a silky glisten, withba delicious flavor! Highly recommend! Lamb Picanha This one we had last, and it was very good, but I would say stand out, when compared to our other dishes. Rohan Duck 2 Ways This was the $$ plate. You had sliced roasted duck on one side and then a leg of duck on the other. The sliced duck was tasty, but still had a lot of chew on it. It was served with tortillas, and if you didn't get the whole chunk of duck it would come out with your bite regardless. So maybe a bit more tender? The leg was amazing. It fell apart, we each attacked with a fork in a manner that would put Brutus and Cassius to shame. Nothing survived. The cherry Mole was divine, and I made sure that got mopped up. Seared Hokkaido Scallops Perhaps one of the most creative presentations of the evening. The medley of garnishes, and flavors was fantastic. It came in for juicy pieces, that we split amongst the five of us. Definitely would recommend. Crispy potatoes These were surprisingly amazing. I can't say that potatoes are always the bell of the ball, but you haven't had these before. Garnish with salmon row and truffle cream, these little fingerlings packed a heck of a lot of wow. The flavors, the textures, the craving for more as you're writing your review. Alas, that's all we ordered. There were a few items that they were out of on this particular evening that we really wanted to try and might even consider coming back for. This place was entirely worth it. Highly recommend. When I heard this restaurant was awarded a Michelin star, I knew I had to check it out! Making a reservation was pretty easy but it was a ways out. Thankfully, they had an opening and we were able to make some changes to our schedule so we could make it. The restaurant is very small. It's located in a shopping center in Spring the size of a hair or nail salon. It's very unassuming most may miss it if they weren't paying attention. The staff were very friendly and you could tell having a good dining experience was important to the owners. We had a party of 5 and we knew we wanted to take advantage of the experience so we ordered A LOT of food. There were so many dishes that I really enjoyed. The octopus was cooked perfectly, not chewy or rubbery. The ceviche was very refreshing and a nice touch with the watermelon. The pasta was very flavorful. If I were to do it again, I'd forgo the peach and burrata and the lamb. It wasn't that I didn't like it, it just wasn't amazing in comparison to the other dishes. They ran out of a few dishes we really wanted to try, which was super disappointing. Even with the more fine dining feel, price point for the quality and what you get was still really good. This spot has been on my list for sooo long, and my boyfriend surprised me with a birthday dinner here--finally checking it off for me! The second he started driving and we ended up in Spring, I knew where we were headed. The restaurant isn't located in a fancy strip center, but once you step inside, you're transported. It's small, cozy, and elegant--with clear signs of thoughtful remodeling. We were greeted immediately and asked to wait a few minutes. There are two small couches up front, which made for a comfortable wait. We started with the grilled Spanish octopus and the empanadas de papa y queso. The empanadas were packed with Comté cheese--my first time trying it! I'd describe it as fresh and milky, almost pillowy in texture. So simple and delicious. The octopus had a great char and was tender, but the plating looked a bit messy, like it had slipped to the side. That said, the matcha salsa it came with was a standout pairing. For entrées, we ordered the Texas Wagyu carne asada, the fish filet, and the birria tacos. Let me just say: I'll be coming back just for the Wagyu. It melted in my mouth and needed nothing--not even the (incredible) salsa that came with it. Everything on that plate--the tortillas, onions, beans--was delicious, but the Wagyu was the undeniable star. The fish filet was basically a fancy, elevated fish sandwich: piping hot, crunchy on the outside, and paired with yet another phenomenal sauce... and yes, there was caviar too. The birria tacos were good, but not something I'd come back here specifically for. We also ordered the crispy potatoes on the side. I wanted to love them (I'm a sucker for potatoes), but the salmon roe on top was a little too fishy for me. That said, my boyfriend devoured them, so it's definitely a matter of personal preference. By the end of the meal, I was way too full for dessert--but I'll absolutely be making the trip back. On top of the food, our waitress was truly the cherry on top. This place had been on our radar for a while. My boyfriend made a reservation for us on a Saturday at 5:15 just after they opened at 5. He booked it pretty far in advance since most weekends were already full. From the outside, it's very unassuming. As soon as you walk in you're right in the dining room which feels a little awkward. There's just a small couch to the left as a waiting area. We were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess. I can't remember her name, but she mentioned that she and her husband (the chef) own the place. She walked us through the menu and was so warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Our main server was Esteban, who was also very helpful and had some great suggestions. They only serve wine and beer, so we started with a bottle of cabernet and the potato and cheese empanadas. The empanadas came two to an order and were on the smaller side, but the flavor made up for it. The comté cheese was super creamy and blended with whipped potatoes. They came with a French style creme topped with kaluga caviar for dipping. It was an unexpected combo that really elevated this simple dish. For our mains, we ordered the grilled redfish and the street corn agnolotti, along with a side of brussels sprouts. The redfish was fresh and perfectly cooked. It came with corn tortillas that honestly stole the show. Some of the best handmade tortillas I've ever had. The brussels sprouts were crispy and flavorful, no notes! Now for the star of the night....the street corn agnolotti. I don't even have words. It was creamy, flavorful, slightly sweet, and just unreal. Easily the best corn dish I've ever had. I could eat this for breakfast, lunch, and dinner forever. I'm not sure who actually reads these reviews, but if you are, please TRY THIS DISH BEFORE THEY CHANGE THE MENU. IT'S NEXT LEVEL. We were still a little hungry, so we added one more dish: the shrimp and pork belly. It came with lettuce wraps and was super fresh. The pork belly had so much flavor. I'm usually not a fan, but this one totally won me over. We had plans to grab dessert elsewhere, so we skipped it here but trust me, I'll be back for that tres leches. But let's be real....I didn't come for the vibes, I came for the food. We had a 7:30 dinner res and were off to a strong start--greeted by the chef's wife (love a personal touch) and a staff that knew their stuff. But somewhere between apps and entrées, the service vibe did a full 180. Suddenly we were getting the "are you still here?" energy. For apps, we tried the empanadas, beef tartare, and birria tacos. Sadly, no scallops. None of them blew me away, but I wasn't mad either. Tried ordering the carne asada--nope. Duck? Also nope. Apparently 7:30 is too late for the good stuff. We landed on the pork chop, filet, and pork belly. Threw in the corn pasta for the table (highly recommend) and all three sides: brussels, squash, and fingerlings. The corn pasta...STAR of the show. Small portion though--if that was my main dish, I'd be writing this review from a place of heartbreak. I could have eaten 3 bowls alone. The fingerling potatoes also SLAPPED. Entrées were solid! Loved the BBQ glaze on the pork chop and the Korean twist on the filet was chef's kiss. Dessert time: we wanted to try the whole dang menu but--plot twist--they were out of the mascarpone cheesecake. We ended up with tres leches, panna cotta, and the white chocolate tart. Tres leches was too thick to soak up the milk properly, so I took it to-go... only for the paper box to get soggy and leak. A tragedy in three leches. The panna cotta though? PERFECTION. That lime ice on top? I'd order a full bowl and call it sorbet therapy. Light, zesty, and gave summer goddess. Only major gripe was around service not sure if we were over staying our welcome, too hyped, or too hungry but we were super disappointed by it. Then splitting the check was an issue. We came for business, tried to split alcohol onto a separate tab for company card reasons, one of us ordered an item to go and needed a separate tab and they wouldn't let us use more than two cards. We just dropped $600....Give us a break. Overall? 4/5. Absolutely blown away by our experience at Belly of the Beast in Spring, TX -- this place is a hidden gem that delivers big on flavor, creativity, and warm, attentive service. Completely understand how they got the Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition. The staff was knowledgeable, kind, and clearly passionate about the food they serve. Elizabeth, the owner, came to our table and introduced herself (her husband is the chef). Every recommendation made was spot-on. We started with the ceviche mixto tostadas -- fresh, vibrant, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat and acidity. Then came the burrata, which was impossibly creamy and paired beautifully with seasonal accompaniments that made each bite feel like spring on a plate. The tuna tostadas were a standout -- melt-in-your-mouth tender tuna with bold, zesty flavors and a crunch that was just perfection. For the main course, we had the grilled Texas redfish, which was expertly cooked and packed with smoky, savory goodness. One of the very best restaurants anywhere near Houston, and quite possibly the whole state. As evidenced by the owner/chef's James Beard award as Best Chef - Texas in 2025. Simply outstanding dishes - bright, complex flavors, always in perfect harmony. Think Eagles on Seven Bridges Road, or Girl Named Tom on Wichita Lineman - perfect, effortless harmony. Literally every bite made us smile, or even laugh, and we could not stop remarking on the amazing quality and clever flavor combinations of each and every dish. Don't be fooled by the modest exterior, or the plain interior either. The place was packed with foodies on a Thursday night, most clearly focused as much on the food as each other. A very very nice evening!! The entire team/staff very attentive, kind and friendly during the entire visit to the restaurant. They have been trained well and have great leadership, owners and ongoing support from ownership!! The dinner was truly amazing from the greeting from Elizabeth, each associate, our server the music and the atmosphere and watching the guests smiles and laughter as they received their plates and food ordered. Each bite and taste was delicious and excited my taste buds with happiness!! The visual presentation of each plate was creatively crafted and beautifully presented with intentional details and a unique twist. The Champagne, Fresh Garden Vegetables, Ceviche, Octopus and Bone Marrow and accompanying Homemade Salsa kicked off the meal with such pleasures. Upon entering, we had to wait a little bit for our table to be ready. However, I really love that our server came over to greet us and offer us a drink before we ever sat down. The restaurant itself was smaller than I had anticipated, and intimate. There were 3 of us, and we shared all of the plates we got. The appetizers (empanadas, ceviche, and birria) were delicious; you really can't go wrong with them. The pork belly was drier than I am used to, but the flavors were incredible. The carne asada was easily my favorite of the three entrées we got, but the short rib was close behind. Selected for our anniversary dinner based on reviews, did not live up to expectations. While the carne asada was excellent, the rest of our meal (ceviche, pasta & tres leches) was mediocre, and the portions are small. I've read that some like the intimate atmosphere, however we found the wide open space to be anything but. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant when I dined here a couple of weeks ago right before they earned their Bib Gourmand. For a restaurant in a strip mall in the suburbs of Spring, TX, I was surprised to see how classy and understated this place is while still being accessible to casual diners. The amazing textures their food has also stands out to me almost as much as the good flavors do. Along with the excellent service, it's easy to see why they earned the recognition. Of the dishes my friends and I ordered, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Crispy Potatoes. The dish was extremely flavorful and filled with excellent textures, and even though there were ingredients like truffle cream and roe, my friend's toddler was still able to enjoy it almost as much as I did. I also highly recommend the Honey Nut Squash Aglotti, which was a beautiful pasta dish with fall flavors and even more amazing textures. Parking is fairly easy in the lot, but since BotB shares the strip mall with several other vendors, can be limited on weekend evenings. While the restaurant has an atmosphere approaching high end dining, it is still very approachable; this is a kid-friendly restaurant and many diners were overall casual. Pricing is fair. (descriptions with each photo) First Course: My husband and I cannot get over how good the scallop appetizer was. It was melt-in-your-mouth soft and the caviar on top gave the perfect burst of salt to balance the sauce. We hope to see this turn up on their menu sometime. Second Course: This dish had such deep flavor and the masa gnocchi were a genius idea. I could eat a giant bowl of this one and be very happy. Third Course: We had never tasted a mole blanco before, the flavor was complex but delicate and the tamal was perfect for sopping it all up! Fourth Course: The pork loin was sooo tender! We loved the sauces too. Fifth Course: My husband, the sweet-tooth said this was the best dessert he had ever tasted. He ate his and stole half of mine. If I could I would rate this a 4.5. I heard about this restaurant months ago but haven't had a chance to stop by due to how far it was. I easily made a reservation online a few weeks ago and came for a weekend dinner. The restaurant is located in an unassuming strip center. It was spacious and every table was full when we walked in. We waited a bit to get seated but were given frequent updates by the manager so we didn't mind. We wanted to choose a dish from different sections so we ended up ordering: Gnocchi: 4/5 the gnocchi was light and not too heavy Potato and caviar empanadas: 5/5 super light and crispy Pork belly tacos: 4/5 pork belly could have use a bit more flavor Carne asada: 4.5/5 meat was perfectly cooked and the beans actually were really good, I couldn't stop eating them Panna cotta: 5/5 perfect dessert to end the meal Overall, we had a great time at this spot and service was great. Why 5 stars? Because this was one of the best meals I've had in 2024. --- --- --- We have had BOTB on our list for a while, but recently my wife saw a promotion about their deal during Restaurant Week and confidently declared that we must go during the upcoming weekend. I like it when she declares such things, especially when it's a place I really want to try, so we were off. First off, I will say that there is a true mom-n-pop vibe here in every sense of the word. It's a small place in a strip mall, but they do everything they can to make it feel like you're in for a special dining experience. The service was great, all the way from calling in to make a reservation, through our server who was very helpful with making recommendations. As for the food, my wife ordered the following as part of the restaurant week deal: -Peaches and Burrata: 5-stars. The first thing we ate, and one of the best. This was food science: an explosion of a bunch of different flavors that all went together perfectly. If this is on the menu, do not even consider not ordering it. Quesabirria: 4-stars. This was obviously high quality (like everything else here) quesabirria, but to be honest, I've had a couple of versions at greasy food trucks that I did like a little more. Steak: 5-stars. As tender a steak as you'll ever have. And only $28 for a decent portion. It also came with some of the best refried beans you will ever have. And then we have my order: -Scallops: 4-stars. To be honest, I always love scallops and these were no exception. The only reason for the 4-star rating is that there were only 3 scallops and this was the most expensive item on the menu @ $37. All of the fixins' that came with them were great, but I would have rather tried something with more value, despite it being delicious. Elote: 5-stars. 5 doesn't actually do this dish justice. It's more like 80 stars on a 1-5 scale. Another flavor explosion built by food scientists in a lab with several randomized control trials. No elote I ever eat again will make me happy. Panna Cotta: 5-stars. The third OMG of the night along with the Peaches and Burrata and the Elote. This dessert was so amazing that I needed to be treated for medical depression when it was gone. I was not only considering licking the bowl when I was done, but going into the kitchen and forcing whoever made it to come home and live with us. We will 100% be back here and we will be bringing family and friends because this is absolutely a "show off" restaurant. It really reminded me of some of the amazing restaurants I've been to in Charleston or Asheville, where it's obvious that they are on a different level than pretty much everyone else. read more

​Disappointing for the Price, but Worth One More Shot ​My husband and I found ourselves child-free this evening and decided to finally give Belly of the Beast a try. As foodies who regularly explore new restaurants, we were excited to see what they had to offer. ​The Good: We started with the sweet corn agnolotti, which was incredibly tasty, and the crispy Brussels sprouts, which were also a hit. ​The Disappointing: Unfortunately, the entrees didn't quite live up to the starters. We tried the tagliatelle, but found the noodles to be a bit too chewy and the dish overall was unimpressive. The biggest disappointment of the night, however, was the redfish. It carried a very strong, fishy flavor and the accompanying risotto was flat and uninspiring. ​The Dessert: We ended the night with the Banana Banana and the Fresas con Crema 'Eaton Mess'. While neither was explicitly bad, there was nothing remarkable to say about either one. ​The Verdict ​For the price point, we ultimately walked away unimpressed with the execution of the main dishes. That being said, because the starters showed real promise, we are willing to give them one more chance in the future. If you have the funds to form your own impression, they might still be worth checking out, maybe avoid the redfish. read more

Spanish octopus 4/5: really enjoyed all of the accompaniments which added nice flavor and texture, some of the pieces were overcooked which made them slightly chewy but still enjoyable Empanadas de papa y queso 4/5: enjoyable but plain for my taste Tuna tostadas 5/5: the best dish of the night, tuna was fresh, whole thing was well seasoned, contrasting textures with creamy and crunchy Beef tartare bites 3/5: tartare was very flavorful, rice wasn't crispy at all, so it was a big bite of mush Birria queso tacos 4.5/5: one of the better renditions in Houston Pea agnolotti 4/5: scallops were cooked well, pasta wasn't undercooked but my personal preference is a hair past al dente, the star was the snap peas for me (I don't normally eat snap peas which is clearly a mistake) Crispy Brussels sprouts 4/5: more vegetable dishes need caesar dressing, bacon and parmesan, would have liked for there to be some crispness on the Brussels sprouts but otherwise good dish For desserts it comes down to preference. I like medium sweet so the white chocolate tart was my favorite. Panna cotta was good but too mild tasting that I almost forgot about it after I finished it. I don't normally order tres leches but there were so many rave reviews, I had to this time. It was probably well executed but too sweet for me. The passion fruit meringue was a nice touch. We've been customers since Old Town Spring and when I tell you this food is magnificent, don't listen to me, listen to his Michelin bib award and his James Beard nomination for best chef in Texas. Just go. Maybe you will be charmed by his wife Elizabeth who works the front of house and makes every guest feel number one. Or maybe it will be one of the servers who take great pride in working there and equal pride in making you feel well taken care of. But most definitely you will be back for the food. The menu is seasonal so you won't get bored. The winner for me Saturday was the seafood pasta with uni butter. I wish I had photos of our dinner at Belly of the Beast, but all I can say is wow! We started with the birria queso tacos, and as someone from Deep South Texas, I'm picky about my birria. These had amazing flavor, especially with the salsa roja. We also tried the Brussels sprouts, and the Caesar dressing on them was such a fun, unexpected twist. My personal favorite was the "That's My Yam" dish, roasted sweet potato with almond salsa macha, chicken cracklings, queso fresco, all on a corn tortilla. Flavors I never would've thought to combine, and it absolutely worked. Highly recommend! The bluefin tuna tostadas were another great pick. For pasta, we did the scallop potato gnocchi- perfectly cooked scallops, tender gnocchi, and just the right amount of truffle. Service was excellent and the dimly lit ambience added the perfect cozy vibe to the night. Everything was fantastic, and I definitely see why they've earned the Bib Gourmand recognition.
