Friday morning, I get a message that I will be charged extra due to liquid melting back of my truck. Well after a $400 bill $260 tow bill to get the truck to this location and then another $200 bill to get it towed to another shop. I'm into this over $800 for them to pull a couple computer codes off of my truck that already done. I recommend going to Pearson's auto or gas and diesel doctor if you're in the Fairbanks area.

Don came out, gave us some air and when we realized we were going to need a new tire, helped us swap the spare on! We are so grateful that he was there and really embraced the "Good Samaritan" trait and showed great hospitality by helping us change the spare and pointed us in the right direction, all before they were even open! They tried to charge me $1200 for it and said it would take them 8 hours to do the job. Any mechanic out there knows it would take 4 hours, if that. Horrible auto shop. They didn't even have the courtesy to call me earlier in the day to say they wouldn't be able to do it that day or at least anything along the lines of "you might want to come plug your truck in we wont be able to do it as early as we hoped" and my truck froze outside. Now I'm busting my ass in -30°F trying to get it to start. No wonder they're rated less than 3 stars.

North Pole NAPA failed to do the right thing by refusing to reimburse us for a battery that doesn't…read morework in the cold weather, even though it was purchased less than a year ago and still under warranty. On 1/5/15 it was minus 33 degrees at our home in North Pole. We tried to start the truck - wouldn't start, no click, didn't turn over. Called our local auto repair place that we always take our vehicles to. They came over to jump it. They hooked up the battery and said it showed a full charge so a jump wouldn't do anything. We had to call a tow truck to have it taken to the auto repair place. They didn't find anything wrong with the truck so took out the battery and put a new one in. The truck started immediately. The mechanic told us they're finding a lot of people having problems with this specific type of battery. We took the battery back to NAPA and asked for reimbursement - even had our receipt. They refused to reimburse us because the battery showed a full charge, even though the mechanic said it was a bad battery, the battery was dead, and they don't work well in cold weather and they don't recommend them to people. The sales person didn't care. NAPA had an opportunity to do the right thing but chose not to because they didn't have to. We'll never shop at that NAPA again, but she didn't care about that either. Reimbursing us for the battery would have cost NAPA $221.96. Our costs for the tow truck, a replacement battery and the labor has cost us $513.85. I don't know who the local owner of this NAPA is but I know its NAPA. They say that over time you don't always remember what people say to you or do, but you'll always remember how they made you feel. NAPA has made us feel that they couldn't care less about us or any customer. Businesses and individuals are ultimately judged on character and integrity. Our negative experience has found NAPA significantly lacking.

Relying on Yelp reviews in choosing a good mechanic can be very frustrating as there are always…read more"the good, the bad, and the ugly" experiences to consider but because I'm not living in Fairbanks, "word of mouth" recommendations from friends, neighbors, etc. just aren't there. I found myself facing a serious sounding array of idiotic lights and dashboard warnings on my F150 that related to transmission problems. I also faced an emergency trip out of state. Prayer and yelp led me to Simard Automotive so I placed a call and explained my situation to "John". He listened patiently to my problem and then explained my options. We put together a plan to drop off the truck on my way to the airport for the diagnostics and repairs. I was surprised and delighted to find their location was near to the airport and offered a shuttle service as I didn't know that when I picked the shop. I dropped off my truck and flew away for a couple of weeks hoping my truck would be ready to go when I got back to AK. During my time away, I received a diagnostic report and okayed the repairs. I spoke with John and the young woman that works the front desk (Sorry. Her name has slipped my mind.) a couple of times to clarify things. Some parts were pushing the window, but I was assured things would be done to facilitate the repairs to meet my arrival. I'd also made a side request with the shuttle driver, Sam, to clean out the inside of my truck as my dog had completely redecorated the back seat with long black hair that defied my efforts to remove it with duct tape. He was eager to take a shot at the mess in his spare time. I only wish I had a before picture to show the effort he made to satisfy my request. Sam did a great job! I arrived back in AK to find my truck was repaired and ready to go per the pre-planned arrangements. I received a complete diagnostic report on the completed repairs and several other issues that were found and discussed. I'm a very satisfied customer and I hope that this review can help someone else when they need top notch service for their vehicles. The repairs were expensive (IMO), but I think the price is more than worth the peace of mind in knowing the work was done professionally and to a set of standards. As someone else mentioned, Alaska is hard on our vehicles and breaking down 100+ miles from anywhere isn't something to mess around with with winter on the way.
