After hearing many reviews of 9 Roses from many different people, I finally decided to stop in for a bite and I am sure glad I did. The restaurant is newly remodeled with cooking tables for chien bo( bbq where you cook in front of yourself). The open bar is beautiful that is a perfect area to watch the game and eat a bowl of pho. We ordered many different items but the items that caught my attention the most were the thit kho and the goi. Both were equally delicious and was absolutely filling. I've been coming here as a kid. I had my 16th birthday lunch here because we spent a weekend in NOLA. I brought all my friends from MS down. I really have the best memories here. Everytime my parents and I would come down or now they come down to visit, we could come here and get the grill and make our own summer rolls. I absolutely love the marinated beef but my parents love the calamari and shrimp. That sauce though. It is like a fish pineapple sauce and I literally could bathe in it. I just don't understand the great reviews for this place. We've eaten there twice in the last few months, and it was mediocre at best both times. The food this time and last time tasted amazing, although last time I went, the quail eggs in the thit kho were a bit firm/ stiff? I was not impressed. So many people have shared great experiences of this restaurant so it's sad that I can't do the same. I preferred the general chicken and fried rice. The chicken had no flavor, usually general chicken is known for its spicy and sweet flavor but this was none of the above. It tasted as if it came out of the freezer section of Walmart or the frozen pf chang box. No disrespect but it was flavorless and lacked texture, no crunchy exterior just soggy. This was my second time visiting this restaurant, the first was years ago. I remember the first time being better than this visit, not that this visit was bad. The restaurant has been remodeled with a modern flare and Korean BBQ equipment at the tables. We had the crab rangoons, Vietnamese egg rolls, combination fried rice, and orange chicken. The crab rangoons were the best part of the meal, in my opinion, having just the right consistency. The Vietnamese egg rolls were the second best part. They are a little different from Chinese egg rolls, but the same concept, would get again. The chicken and rice were a la carte. The rice over all was good, it was a shrimp, chicken, beef, and some type of pork sausage fried rice. My only compliant was that the shrimp taste funny, so I avoided them. Other than that I stole some sauce from the orange chicken and went on my merry way. The orange chicken was very flavorful, however, the chicken itself was just too dry for me. This is a great place for families and lovers of Vietnamese cuisine, with a few Chinese dishes mixed it. May return to try their pho. The staff was friendly and helpful. Recently had the opportunity to go back to 9 Roses a couple of times recently, after too long of an absence, and it's still very good. I was very fortunate to go with someone from Vietnam, who suggested some of the traditional dishes - all were good and recommended- the Banh Xeo, with it's different green leaves to wrap the omelette in and dip in a sauce, the Muc Chief Bot, which had a great batter - maybe the best I've had with calamari, the Vietnamese egg rolls, which were ok, the Ca Kho To, which was a very succulent and tender catfish cooked in a clay pot in a delicious brown gravy that you probably would not know was made wish fish sauce and sugar, and a soup and salad, the names of which I don't remember, but were very ok. I will try the lotus salad next time, and get many of the same - great place when you are looking for a change, fresh, and light. read more

Kinda hidden with great food. Atmosphere: This restaurant is not in the best neighbourhood, but the building itself looks well maintained compared to it's surroundings. When you walk in, there is not much of a foyer, but a fish tank immediately at the door, and a check out counter to your left. The restaurant itself is dark, not my favourite because I like to be able to see my food. The decor is simple, nothing in particular stands out other than the large cylindrical fish tank. Food: The food is very good, very flavourful. The menu is comprised of both Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. This is my third time at this restaurant, and have not yet tried any of the Chinese items. The canh chua do bien was sweet and sour, with plenty of vegetables and seafood. I do recommend doing it hot pot style. Bo loc lac was flavoured very well, slightly salty and slightly, however, it was not as crispy as I normally have it in their restaurants. The goi do bien was accompanied with fried shrimp chips, it was a really nice texture contrast from the salad of young lotus root, celery, onion, shrimp, and squid. The ca kho to was quite salty though, a little more than what I am used to, but still palatable. This restaurant also serve pho, but there are so many pho places at home, ordering non-pho items in a Vietnamese restaurant is a huge bonus. Service: There is nothing memorable about the service. We were not in a fancy restaurant, so we did not expect excellent customer attention, and we were not ignored either. The waitstaff gave us plenty of time to look over the menu to decide what we wanted. The only thing we didn't like was the wait for the food, it was nearly twice as long as most other Vietnamese restaurants we usually frequent for these same dishes. We will definitely come back here again when in New Orleans. *Women's restroom is very tight in the stalls. On the recommendation of our dealer, Thanh, at Caesar's, we ate there. He did not lead us to the wrong place. I will start with the only negative, that really was not under their control. Their A/C system was leaking and required us to sit differently in a booth. The heat and humidity really does a number on things. Everything else reminded my husband of food he used to have at home. We had the Hot and Sour Soup with Shrimp and the Claypot Catfish. Both of them were excellent dishes. The Hot and Sour soup had a vegetable called Elephant Ear. I have not had it in so long and did not realize how much I missed it until we had the soup. The ingredients were so fresh, and the taste was perfect. Many restaurants cheat, but we could tell they used pineapple in the soup. We asked that they dampen the spiciness, and they did so. I am not a fan of Claypot Catfish, but this catfish was really good. Usually, the fish is dry. However, the catfish was so moist and so flavorful. I am so glad we came. We did not have to wait until we got home for some comfort food. Our dealer also recommended the charbroiled wraps, but it was too hot for it. However, it seemed like the most popular thing to have. Hopefully, it will be cold the next time we are in New Orleans. We will definitely try it then. I love coming here with my boyfriend and his family. We always let them order all the food -- I can't speak much Vietnamese yet and my boyfriend will eat anything. The service is always superb and quick. All the food is very fresh and flavorful. I absolutely love the spring salad; they serve these at Vietnamese weddings as the appetizer and I could literally eat it every day! The fried calamari is also a favorite, as well as the sour chicken soup -- and it's a perfect day for soup today. Delicious! This is the first time I have eaten here, and I'm already looking forward to going back. The service was friendly and while the waiter didn't come often to the tables, he was standing and scanning the room throughout the meal and when he saw a table may need something he went over. My father got the seafood birds nest- he was impressed by the amount of seafood and said it was good. My husband got the Vietnamese crepe- it was delicious. One of the best we have tried. Thanks to Yelp I found Hoa Hong 9 which means nine roses in English. Parking was convenient BC it was private and the interior of the restaurant is quite large. Our waitress mentioned they were out of beans sprouts that am. so I ordered the Bun Bo Hue which is served with cabbage and herb condiments. At just under $9.00 a bowl the broth was authentic just like places in So Cal and contained generous amounts of meat with the exception they didn't offer pork blood. Hoa Hong 9 serves solid Vietnamese food and accepts credit cards. All the patrons dinning in mid morning were Vietnamese which reaffirmed I came to the right place. read more

Nine Roses is always my go to for delicious authentic Vietnamese food! The service is quick and friendly (accommodating for Americans, who just want good Vietnamese). The décor is what you would expect in an Asian restaurant with tons of family size tables, art and huge fish tank in the front of the restaurant. As for food, you'll always be satisfied! The portions are large and can usually be shared with the table. My all-time favorite to order is the nem nuong (Vietnamese grilled pork meatballs). The wait time is a bit long for me especially at the rise of lunch and dinner hours but the food is so good it's worth it. Today I decided to try the bun cha gio rau cai (vermicelli bowl with vegetable egg rolls). It was only $8 for the bowl and it was so filling, I could barely finish it.
