I've had the misfortune of having to deal with these idiots a couple times now. Every time they run you through countless phone calls and excuses as to why you are being charged a fine even when you have a transponder. From the moment the woman picked up the phone she had an attitude and was so rude I almost hung up. When I asked to speak with a manager or supervisor they lied and said they don't have one and refused. Hands down the worst customer service experience I have ever encountered. When I again asked to speak with a manager via email as a final attempt they completely ignored my request and said I am not to call them anymore. I was heading from San Diego to Pasadena with my mother yesterday when my navigation took me via the 91. Being a San Diego resident, we have the FasTrak lanes which are also carpool 2+. You only need a transponder for solo drivers. How is it that a state wide system like FasTrak does not have universal requirements? If you are driving 65+ miles an hour through an unfamiliar area, it creates a hazardous situation if you have to read multiple signs to figure out what the specific rules are for that particular area. Well, I made the mistake of heading in the FasTrak 91 W yesterday because I ASSuMEd it followed the same rules as in San Diego. Had the privilege of waiting 50 minutes to enter the express lanes on the 91 west just past the 15 this morning... why did it take so long you ask? The entrance to the lanes allows people to basically stay in the #2 lane and cut in at the last second which in turn screws everyone that is waiting properly... the remedy for this should be double solid white lines that stretch back before the 15 overpass... and police to enforce it. read more

We've been sold a bill of goods and there's nothing we can do about it, because we've been sold out by our own local government in putting these lanes in. Each year we get a notice that the prices are going up in order to keep the lanes "moving freely", so in short we're being priced out of our own "membership" while they just keep right on selling accounts. As they sell accounts the congestion on these lanes will actually become worse than regular congestion and so they get to collect insane tolls all for the benefit of actually not going all that much faster if at all, than regular traffic. I became an account holder at a time when the tolls were not all that far out of line from other tolls across the nation but now this is got to be one of the most expensive tolls gouges in the country and it doesn't even work, there are simply too many drivers in California and these lanes should've simply been opened up to everybody instead of just gouging read more

Like many reviewers, I got violation letter. $25 bucks for penalty and $2.50 for Toll. C'mon there are clear signs mentioning 2+ HOV. No mention of exclusive TOLL. +1 to the no exit upto 15 miles. The road system in California is so convoluted it's pathetic. There has to be done big payoffs going on in this state. Not being a frequent traveler to CA, I put my credit card on a toll road website authorizing charges for the period of time we were there. The thought was we would be covered to use the CA roads. Not true. Unfortunately, it's not clear on the toll road website or when you are driving focusing on the roads, that there are various private companies that have their hands out for payment. We got tagged twice. The $25 charge per incident is ridiculous and so is their customer service. They basically say F... you. Amazing for such a liberal state to be so discriminatory and only people that want to pay for their transponder can use their toads. You cannot pay as you go. Not impressed with the way CA is run. So the past two times this 2018 summer I have use the express lanes to go from Temecula to LA my transponder beeps when I entered the express lane. However, both time I have received a "Metro Incident Violation" charging me for the toll and threating significant penalties. I have to spend my time prove my innocence. Terrible customer service. When you call, they speak to you condescendingly as if you were a child. My account plan was changed without my knowledge, yet they can't explain how it happened. On another occasion, I was charged a toll for a car that had been totaled and was being towed to a scrapyard on a flatbed truck. These lanes were originally owned by a private entity partnered with Caltrans, and is now owned by OCTA. This is one of the first toll roads to operate in CA and the most expensive. These lanes are still dubbed "The Lexus Lanes" for the obvious. I remember when tolls were as cheap as $0.25 one way. Now it's $10.00 or a $1.00/mile at peak hours. I used to rack up a pretty hefty bill at the end of the month, just because traffic on the free lanes of the 91 through this corridor is very very unpredictable. I only take these lanes when I have 3+ in my car as it is a free ride. Othertimes it's only good if you know the 91 is backed up solid. Some days these fastrak lanes are fully stopped while the free lanes are going full speed 70+mph. WTF! I wish there was a way to get refunded that $10.00 one way trip when it gets that bad. The idea is great, but I think OCTA is getting greedy with the fees. Even their transponders have a stupid monthly fee which costs more than TCA's or BATA (in the bay area). I'm glad I don't have to use these lanes on a daily basis. They claim it saves time, but sometimes you waste more on gas when you're stopped at a standstill because either some guy stalled in the lanes, or there are just too many cars in the toll lanes themselves. read more

This is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. I am a daily commuter from the Riverside area to the OC area and thought that I would highly benefit from using the 91 express lanes. My experience with this company has been nothing but unpleasant. The first mistake they made, was that they had a completely wrong address down for me and my husband's account and were supposedly sending us notifications of fees that were due to this wrong address. We finally realized something was up and went down to the office. The woman at the desk was incredibly rude and talked down to me like I was a child. Calling me "honey" in a rude and snobby tone. By the time I left I was so frustrated and almost in tears. So the next day, my husband went down there and she was able to waive the fees of over $400 for us since they made the mistake of putting down the wrong address. After that, I decided to give them another shot since I commute so much. First they started charging my account somewhere around $60 every time my balance was low, next it turned into $80, then $150 every time my account reached $40, yet there was never any warning that they were going to take so much out the next time. One time my account was low and they weren't able to take out $150 and then I realized this and paid a lower amount through my online account. But since I used my transponder for about 4 or 6 trips, they charged me some ridiculous amount of penalties that I had not know about. You would think since I have been a paying customer and that my account is current they could somehow take off these fees. WRONG!! Although my account is current they still say I owe them over $300 in violation fees that they cannot waive because their "system" will not allow them to. Also, every time you try and call their customer service line you will be on hold for over an hour unless you call right at 8am, when they open. Very disappointed, will be cancelling my account ASAP and taking the Metrolink! read more

I am livid with this company right now. I got a toll evasion fine back in February, except the only thing is I had my transponder on me at the time while I was taking the roads. A couple of months pass and I called them up to explain that this was an error. The CSR said that there was an error in their system regarding my license plate, because they switched up two letters on my plate. They told me that the issue would be resolved and that I would see the fine go away. Just today I opened an envelope that told me that the fine was turned over to the collection agency. I am so so frustrated with this company. I don't know why and how they can run a business so poorly and expect to get away with service like this. read more

*UPDATE* Fastrak never responded to my defense of their accusation, other than scare-tactic letters saying that if I didn't pay they would effectively hold my vehicle's registration hostage with the DMV. Online account access is a joke. The security is convoluted but not sophisticated enough to work properly. Tip: If you want to have the security of a financial institution, then invest in the systems like they do, otherwise keep it simple. Everyone has a facebook, google account, and online banking, in comparison the site usability stinks. Non-Telephone customer service is always dicey. When I call they are always helpful but other methods are silly. Especially because online account access is so difficult, I can't provide my account number, transponder ID etc when contacting them via email. I don't know how to give somebody a zero in stars. I have had a transponder since the day they opens the fast track. The way they operate their business and manage their business is completely offensive. When you work with an organization that is supposed to serve the general public, there needs to be a certain level of professionalism and courtesy. This organization possesses neither of those attributes. For example when you get a notice that your credit card has expired, or you had a credit card stolen and it has to be replaced, emails are sent that say we deactivated your account if you use the tollroads you're going to be fined. They should have zero ability to fine anyone. As far as I know they are not a government organization nor are they affiliated with a government organization and finding people is something that is done through civil action. This organization should be restructured from the top down or shut down. Avoid the 91 at all costs if you are not a CA driver with a toll account. My family and I drove it in a recent trip not knowing it was tool since their is nowhere to pay cash, and it is not clearly marked that you are on a toll road. Or phone's mapquest took us this way, and were on the right side and on the left side seemed to be what appeared to be the fast-trak toll lane. Two months later we got a letter saying we were delinquent for a $3.69 toll and I must pay $103.69 or lien against my registration. Welcome to the state of new and improved Communist State of CA! I was born and raised in Central Coast CA, and after this, I plan to never spend another trip, or dime in that screwed up state. Logged into my account on the useless website, I'm not allowed to manage my vehicles! Unbelievable! I can't change the status of the sold vehicle to inactive! I can't change ANYTHING on ANY existing vehicles in my account! Furthermore, there is absolutely NO email address to contact support. No way to contact any department via email! If it was possible to give 0 stars I would. After commuting nearly 3,000 miles within a month for my job I decided it was worth it to not sit in traffic for hours trying to get home. So I signed up for the 91 Express Lanes. After the pre-paid amount hit the minimum my bank account was charged. And again, and again. With so many miles every month my account had been charged numerous times that my bank became concerned and froze transactions from 91 EL (Express Lanes). After hours on the phone, not to mention the 30 minute wait to get ahold of an operator they charged me $35 (non-payment) + $25 (deactivation fee). Horrible!! With as much money as they were making off of me I would figure they would be more understanding and eager to keep my business! Putting so many miles on a car wears them out. It was time for a new car. They told me I was NOT to use my transponder and the 91 EL until I received plates from the DMV. After 6 weeks I finally received my plates and a $7 no usage fee by 91 EL. Listen this list goes on AND on AND ON!! A very long story short: -Random fees for no reason -Random closures -More radar checks then on the freeway -30+ minute wait time to speak to a representative -Closing your account for ANY reason (even moving out of state) they charge $25 -Non-stop calls from their computer system asking you to call them and wait the 30+ minutes to find out it was a misunderstanding Overall, this is a great option if you want to invest more time in trying to hold onto your money then sit in traffic. Additionally, if you like harrassment by a government agency this is the company for you! FYI, being that this is a "government agency= OCTA" Better Business Bureau won't touch your case if 91 EL takes off with hundreds of your dollars without your consent. The operators act as though you personally have punched them or picked on them as a child so this is their only way of lashing out on the world. DON'T DO IT!! I wish I didn't. read more

Thank goodness I no longer have to deal with the Nasty 91. The toll lane along the 91 E must be a gold mine for the OCTA. They know that since the carpool lane ends at Tustin Ave. wayyyyyyy before traffic starts you have only two options 1) Sit in 2hrs of traffic 2) assuming you have a transponder...pay $6+ to use their express lane I find that this is an unfair business practice on the OCTA's part and they should convert the lanes into a carpool lane. read more

One star for waiving the so called penalty. We accidentally got onto 91 express lane, thinking it was another segment of HOV lane. It led to an unwanted detour and the company charged us with a penalty. There was no sufficient warning, and signs look similar to HOV + FasTrack + Express Lanes. Once you are in, you are barricaded from exiting. It added a good 30 unnecessary minutes to our trip. Feels like a trap. read more

Complete rip off. Everyone who uses the 91 express lane must be rich because it is ridiculously expensive to commute on the express lane. I commute from San Bernardino to Long Beach everyday and it cost me $10 (on a good day) per trip, not even roundtrip. I thought I would be saving time and money but it's the complete opposite. I'm sorry, don't come for me but this is the worst on earth. I was very hopeful that the toll roads/91 express would be a life and time saver for my new job commute from Riverside to Santa Ana. People at my new job warned me of how bad it is and I was still hopeful. First of all, the morning is horrible. No matter what time you leave it will be at least 30 minutes before you actually get on the toll road lane. I don't understand what the benefit is when the time spent waiting to get on the toll road you can spend in the traffic actually progressing to your destination even if its bumper to bumper at least you are moving! So many cars cutting in front of you at the last minute only makes it worse and this was poor design. 1/2 a mile after the Mc Kinley entrance the white poles should begin to actually get us to where we need to faster! For example, this morning I left at 6 am and did not enter the toll road until 6:52. Seriously this is ridiculous. In addition it was overpriced why does it cost $20 from riverside to oc county line. This is taking advantage. On the way back it is the same issue, people cutting it takes me 30-40 min just to enter and move fast. Again, might as well be moving along in traffic playing a show, listening to an audiobook or anything else more relaxing than seeing how we are being taken advantage. It still takes me 1 1/2 hrs to get home. If you are paying for this out of pocket just save your money, leave a little earlier and try to have a good car ride. read more

Fast Trak is a great convenience. Getting on the phone with them is a bit tough, and my online account was hard to login to, but overall they saved me many hours from my thurs-sat afternoon commutes and for that I am truly grateful and found their prices fair and worth it. However, I recently just moved and no longer need my fast trak. I just sent the transponder back and have yet to be charged a "cancellation" fee but if it does happen, i'll sure as shit be back to drop their rating down to 1 star. read more

Crooks! Should be shut down by the Feds for abusive business practices. Besides the fact you have to wait 30+ minutes to ever talk to somebody on the phone, if your card doesn't go through whenever they decide they want to charge your card, you are hit with a NSF fee! This is the ONLY company I've ever heard of that does this. No notice saying "Hey, your card was declined. Please update it". They just charge you fee after fee after fee. Our card on file was cancelled due to fraud. The very next morning, the 91 Express lanes charged us and it didn't go through. They hit us with a NSF fee! I didn't even have a replacement card yet! How can I even update it! It blows my mind it is legal for them to do what they do. I guess people hate traffic so much that garbage companies like 91 Express Lanes can get away with this crap. The time you save is fantastic. I'm a firm believer of why not just open the freeway for everybody. I didn't know that a private company could buy lanes on the freeway in charge you to drive on them. Just so you know, it costs $120 to $160 to drive from the 15 to the 55 and back at 5 AM and 3 PM. I don't know about you but that is ridiculous. But the only thing I can do is complain because nothing is going to change. I Understand it's a convenience but why do you have to charge people an arm and a leg to drive in it.
