They replaced a driver-side CV axle, did oil changes, replaced brake pads and rotors, diagnosed and fixed an A/C and heater blower issue, repaired a trunk/liftgate problem, and also replaced a valve cover and gasket and battery. I contacted 916 Auto after doing a 2 and half week research (which included Yelp and Google Reviews) to have my 2004 Mazda 3 AC Condenser (Factory OEM) replaced. My AC Drier was cracked and inoperable since last year. In this region of the Sacramento Valley and Placer County, 916 Auto quote beat 5 shops I contacted in the region and 1 shop even told me it's not worth it and I should get a new car. Bet if my car was a 69 Camaro, they'd do it. Why? Cause its a Classic Camaro. No matter the condition. Some shops don't want to work on Imports. But oh well. Their loss, not mine. I contacted 916 Auto and spoke to Samson to schedule an appointment and he said to come by that very same day. And so I drove from Roseville to Gold River that morning. Samson is honest & to the point. When he pulled my car in, he noticed a coolant leak. Now I didn't notice any leaks in my driveway, as it would seem the Coolant is evaporating or dissipating, but he notice it was getting on my Alternator, by the stains. It turns out, my OEM water pump (factory part since 2003 for this model year in 2004) finally gave out at 262K miles. Who'd ever think a Mazda/Ford part would last this long. This was an unexpected thought as I only had budgeted for the quote. So I called my CFO (Wife) and let her know of the issue. She said get it fixed and she'll adjust other expenses as she knows I need AC for the upcoming summer temps. So I authorized Samson to proceed with the entire job. Now I can't couldn't do any price comparison, but he did give me a discount which still fit in my overall budget. I spent my whole day in their lobby. They have updated their lobby to make it feel more comfortable and less Auto Shop feel. I notice the many people who drop by to have their car service are all happy and are returning customers. From a Dealership oil drain plug that was torqued too tight, to oil changes, brakes, and even a customer who was a bit upset where the Dealership sent the wrong part twice. The Dealership. I spoke to many of them and they all had the same answer when I ask. "What made you come here?" They replied, "Their price can't be beat!". In summary, my AC is now working as it should. Now I only used my AC for 2 whole days It gets cold and it has been awhile since I have felt cold in my aging car of 22 years. With my new water pump installed as well, my car is running smoother overall. Smoother shifts, heater gets warm fast. Almost, now almost like it was in 2004. So, Did I find a new shop for my Project Commuter Car? Yes I sure did. They have gotten a new customer. Up next is my Transmission Gasket & plug. One thing at a time! I sent a message on Yelp today requesting a quote to have my rear brakes and rotors done. I asked if I was able to bring in my own parts I had purchased at Auto Zone. He gave me two options - I could go for a brand-new part, which would've cost over $1200, or opt for a used one at just $500. Being budget-conscious, I went with the used fan and I really appreciated that he was looking out for my wallet. Here's where Samson really shines. The first fan he ordered turned out to be the wrong part (no fault of his), but he didn't miss a beat. He promptly found another vendor, even paid an extra $70 out of his own pocket to expedite shipping, and made sure everything was installed perfectly. Despite the delay, which was totally out of his control, Samson didn't pass any of those extra costs on to me and even gave me a discount! He also promised an additional discount on future services as a goodwill gesture. It's been a year since I took my car here, but I had such a poor experience that I think it's worth sharing after all this time as a warning to other young women who think that this business will not take advantage of you. I was almost scammed out of $1000 to replace something that did not need to be replaced. I took my car into 916 auto after it had the red exclamation mark show up on my dashboard. I saw other reviews saying that they felt as though he was honest, and as a woman I felt comfortable taking my car to him based on reviews. Samson ran a diagnostic, and told me that it was the inverter coolant pump, and told me that he would get back to me with a quote. I googled the code and repair, and was expecting for parts to be ~$150. I was shocked when Samson called me back with a total quote for $1374 ($1150 of which was for parts) for a heater booster pump. I agreed, shocked, but figured I wanted the car up and running soon, and trusted him based on his good reviews. After more research on my end regarding the systems that the heater booster pump and inverter coolant pump work in, I did not see how fixing the heater booster pump would fix the issue. Issues with the heater booster pump would not cause major issues with the car's ability to run. As someone who knows little about cars I was able to figure this out. A mechanic with much more experience should be able to figure that out. Either way, a mechanic should be able to tell the difference between a $150 issue and a $1150 issue. I cancelled the repair and picked up my car. When I cancelled the repair, Samson back tracked and said he would be able to get the part for a hundred. I would like to believe that this was an honest mistake, but find it very difficult to. Even if it was an honest mistake, no mechanic should be making a misdiagnosis that results in an extra $1000. I took it to a trusted family friend, who replaced the inverter coolant pump, which fixed the issues with the car. Beware all of these good reviews, they seem too good to be true. read more
