What a disappointment! Ate there a three years ago and enjoyed the experience. Four of us ate there this past Wednesday (June 26, 2019) for lunch. All four meals were less than one expects when spending $75.00 for lunch. My Cuban sandwich must have been effected by the Trump embargo; another person at the table ordered the Wedge Salad - rather than quality lettuce as advertised, it had iceberg lettuce... the chef said he decided to alter the menu; the Prosciutto Flatbread was void of prosciutto, the sliders were the only decent meal Seventy bucks for a non-pleasured meal. The Chef made excuses... my advice is to get back on 290 and find a place that delivers what it advertises. read more

WOW where do I start ! The wait for the first of the two appetizers took one hour , we were told the other appetizer was coming five stuffed peppers the size of cherry tomatoes for four people then a half hour later about a pita and a half cut in squares and some hummus showed up . Still no food talked to the waitress she did not return to the table for another fifteen minutes so I put down money and walked out to cover a beer two appetizers and two cokes served in bottles and straws with no glasses offered . The service was pretty good, venue is nice, but the ingredient quality is so out of step with the price. My salad w salmon was fine, if a bit expensive for being mostly bagged mix greens, but my boyfriend got a "fettuccine" special that was made with....dry box spaghetti. Slightly over cooked. That's pretty inexcusable for any restaurant that isn't a diner or for a kids dish? At least BUY fresh pasta if you can't make it in house, lord. read more

To start with, we waited over an hour for our food to arrive and during that time, our waitress did not stop at our table a single time to offer an update, refill our drinks, or check on us. When we received our bill, the total came to $99 so we gave a $50 and the other person in our party put their credit card in the folder. The waitress asked if we wanted to split the bill down the middle and we told her to apply the $50 and then to put the balance on the card. When she brought the credit card back, there was not a copy of the credit card receipt or a slip to sign which we thought was strange but we left a cash tip and left since we had already waited for so long. When we got to the car, we checked the credit card and found that the full $99 was charged to the credit card. We went back in to the restaurant, the waitress said that she kept the $50 for herself and that it must have been a misunderstanding. The manager seemed unconcerned about the incident but the waitress did return the $50. Please make sure that you receive your credit card receipt and double check the amount as I hate to see anyone lose money like we would have if we wouldn't have double checked our transactions! It is too much of a coincidence that we didn't receive a credit card slip to sign and then have this happen where the waitress thought we just wanted her to keep the $50 in addition to her tip. read more

Loved my meal, and service was great but my wife ordered the special last night which was a 7 oz Filet.... she ordered it medium rare and it was medium well and was nothing close to any filet we have ever had. Told lady and didn't say anything but sorry but was still $42. Go there a lot but I guess don't get steak. No manager or anything came after we complained. read more

My husband & I had the 7oz filet dinner special. It had to be the worse steaks we have ever ate. They were extremely tough & full of gristle. They were barely warm when brought to our table. To top it off they cost $45 each. They were served with mashed potatoes that was also barely warm. Sadly the best thing were the green beans. $45 for good green beans is shocking. Recommended by a friend, we drove 25 miles and had an excellent meal I would call in the bistro style. Wide menu choices included the elk sliders I enjoyed paired with a wine from an eclectic small vineyard list. Another time we will have to try the small craft brewers bounty at the bar which looked great. Definitely a place we will return to often. read more

Nice ambience, beautiful decor, and great food! Outdoor and indoor seating, and eclectic menu. We loved the yucca fries--our first time to try them--they tasted like french fries. This is one of my favorite spots in Brenham. I have loved every dish I have had here. My only complaint is the service is SO slow. Last time we were there the food took forever to come out. Then the waitress never checked on us after dropping off the food. After finishing our food we waited 10+ minutes for her to come and ask how it was (at that point we were ready to go!) it wasn't even busy. read more

We stopped in at 2pm on a Saturday so we didn't have to worry about a wait. All of the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. We got the pumpkin, black bean and quinoa sliders, the yucca fries and the asian beef wraps tapas. We would visit again if we ever find ourselves hungry and in Brenham again. read more

I'm so happy this place is here! Excellent staff, food and atmosphere. Great place to go for a glass of wine (phenomenal selection) or choose from the extensive selection of craft brews, including our own local Brazos Valley brews. I've lived here permanently since 2001 (weekender since '94) and this place is every bit as good as anything you get in the big cities either west or east of here!! I am also a local business owner and have held a few events here (Wine Down Wednesdays with RE/MAX Advantage-shameless plug) plus we had our company Christmas dinner here - great service and just a fun place to be!! On a more 'technical' note - the servers, etc know their menu and drink choices. It's a personal pet peeve of mine to go to a restaurant when the wait staff doesn't know a thing about the menu. You won't run into that problem here. I also love the fact that their menu offerings change often. They have a very creative chef!! Bottom line - you can get things here you would typically have to go to H-town to get. Dress up or down - you can feel perfectly comfortable here either way. The owners/managers treat you like you are a guest in their own homes!! Fun food - fun people - fun atmosphere!! The food is not something you will find everywhere. The food my wife and I tried was fresh and tasty. We were not expecting a restaurant with the variety and uniqueness to exist in this more rural area. My wife had Chorizo and Sweet Potato with Kale hash. She liked it so much she made it for us the next evening for dinner. I had a flat iron steak (cut up) with a variety of potatoes and eggs with a hollandaise sauce. This was our second visit to 96 West. Our first was during Hot Nights, Cool Tunes and we had a great time with a party of 6. We loved the different menu and having a different local option in Brenham. We drove last night fro Houston to celebrate a 60th birthday. We had to wait to be acknowledged, then for water and it was over 20 minutes before we got our wine. We had chicken fried quail- not my personal favorite due to the thick fried batter! I ordered beet salad and quinoa pumpkin seed bean sliders. Our waitress said I couldn't get a side portion of salad because the kitchen was backed up. She asked if I wanted salad and sliders together and I said, that's fine- after the quail ( appetizer) . We waited 25 minutes for the appetizer and after we ate, another 20-30 minutes for entrees. I got my salad but no sliders. One member of our group didn't get his wedge salad. My husband and our birthday guest got spinach salad and added steak ( very small portion). They both enjoyed but said it was small. My husband asked for bread and they brought two pieces and charged for it. After everyone was finished the waitress brought my sliders. I ate them with everyone else's dirty plates on the table. We asked for dessert thinking it might make up for all the delays and ordered festive lemon pound cake with berries. We said we would need forks but when she brought it, no forks! It was not complimentary. I would not mind a slow leisurely meal if our table was cleared of dirty dishes while we waited. I wouldn't mind if someone had refilled our water or asked if we wanted more wine. The restaurant was busy but not packed. We saw other tables arrive, be served and leave while we waited. Food is good but 2.5 hours without much attention and then $165.00 bill is just unacceptable. read more

The restaurant has a "hip" downtown Houston look and feel, but the atmosphere is just right. The music is background music, as it should be for enjoyment of conversation. Great staff, especially, Kimber, who was as upbeat and positive as the surroundings, and management was seen working along with waitstaff to make sure we had the best experience! Excellent place. Great food, an unusual and upscale environment at a great price. Not just for dining-several bar top options scattered around for a quite drink or a chance to converse with others. We were disappointed in the service but there was a street festival and they were busy- the food was good but we had to ask for our drinks, our silverware, plates, never got refills on our water or tea. As we were driving through on our way to Austin not sure we will have an opportunity to try it again. read more

This restaurant was extremely enjoyable, while I can't speak for the drinks I can comment on the fantastic & succulent beef slider as well as their enjoyable flatbread pizzas, crunchy yet soft yucca fries & their many fantastic appetizers. So why four stars? It simply the price & after all no restaurant is without fault & the fault here is the exorbitant prices compared to the amount food received, nearly twenty dollars for 3 beef sliders (while enjoyable) is to high to be a restaurant of too many repeat visits. While I will most definitely be returning it won't be as mush as I would like to because of the prices, beyond that the food is fantastic & the atmosphere too. read more

I went to 96 West this week and was very pleasantly surprised! There have a large wine list that was not outrageously priced. The menu had good variety and the food was fresh and plentiful. Both of the owners were onsite that evening and were very attentive. The decor and lighting made the dinner very cozy and enjoyable. This definitely more than 4 stars, but not quite 5. Food was outstanding. Wedge salad dressing has just a little 'zip' to it. Texas beef sliders were outstanding. Hub had one of the specials, rib eye, that was generous and very tasty. He also had soup, veg barley that was also very tasty. Service was good, not overbearing. The ONLY reason it got 4 and not 5 was the wine list. Tried to order several wines by the glass, none available. Subbed in a decent Merlot, but still not sure what it was. Ordered the crab and lobster nachos for an appetizer and they substituted scallops for the lobster...did not taste very good and it was a sloppy dish. Ordered the stuffed chicken breast and my wife ordered the salmon salad... we both sent complete dinners back due to the chicken being so dry... it was almost like eating cardboard.... the salmon was way over cooked too. Very fishy tasting also. It was like they had cooked the food earlier in the day and left them under a heat lamp. They did take them off of the check. My wife thought we should give them another chance and so she thought that ordering a flat bread pizza would be easy for the kitchen to make but it was horrible too. I just don't think that they have a certified chef in the kitchen. Atmosphere was very pleasant. We set outside on the patio. Just wish that they had good food to go along with atmosphere. Will not go back and do not recommend anyone wasting there time and money. read more

Loved this place. Stopped in on Easter Sunday and we're glad we did. Not many choices of restaurants to choose as we were driving around from Houston looking at the wild flowers, and this place showed up on Yelp. (Thank you, Yelp) I was afraid they'd be too busy, but although They were busy, they were very friendly & efficient. Our waiter told us that our food would be a little longer because of the crowd, but he stopped by to check on things and kept us informed. The menu was very interesting for a smaller town. Check out the pictures of the menu to see what I mean. I ordered the pork shanks with the tomatillo sauce, cheese grits & avocado - excellent choice. The smoky flavor of the pork was set off by the tang of the tomatillo. Very good. My husband had the pork sliders & he loved them. He said they reminded him of pulled pork from Memphis with the slaw added. They have a good selection of wines by the glass and bottle & a full bar. We will be back. read more
