I finally got to try Marfa! The food was fresh and flavorful. I tried the coconut shrimp tacos and the Texas Caviar was sooo good! Our server was friendly, helpful and efficient. I really wanted to like this place but, for the price, it's just not anything to write home about. So let's start with the good: - cocktails and mocktails were tasty - calamari appetizer, jalapeño chicken fried steak and the halibut dishes were tasty But that's where it ends. My son ordered the scallops and to say they were gritty was an understatement. And the service...well when we could flag our waitress down we got service. Otherwise she was nowhere to be found. Nice find just outside the TAMU. We wanted something different tonight and thought some Texas inspired food would be fun. The restaurant was in full swing when we walking in. Greater was very apologetic for not sitting us right away but told us a 5 -10 minute wait would help them better serve us. Well said and kitchen thanks you for not stacking tables. You can tell they have well trained staff. They kept up with the business. You could tell the kitchen expo was on point because everything came out together hot and freshly garnished. Well orchestrated firing, plating, and serving. We enjoyed everything but especially the appetizers (fried green tomatoes and calamari). Of course one person had to get the chicken fried steak. Let me start by saying this was the very first time here. We sat in the bar area. The server was very friendly professional and very patient with us. The menu was not your traditional menu and not a typical us anyway. The atmosphere was very warm and inviting. The food was just okay in our opinion. We ordered the fried shrimp with cold slaw. It was large clean breaded shrimp!. It was just shrimp! Here's the real kicker, $3.50 for a 12oz can of soda x2 was hard to swallow at that price! I thought this place was pretty interesting. The building looked new the inside was 70s retro vibe. The waitress immediately sat up down and was super friendly. Service was great and the food was good. Prior to the meal we had the goat cheese. This was amazing, creamy with some heat and sweetness. I ordered the chicken fried steak and fries. The steak was nice and tender thick and not all batter. My fries were nice and crispy and the gravy with fresh jalapeños was an Ace in the hole. I had two other individuals with me. The burger looked amazing and the patty was as thick and not frozen. I had a taste, it was as delicious but didn't like the BBQ sauce on the burger. (This is me, others may like it). I've probably told this story before but it's relevant to my recent visit to Bryan/College Station. A few years back a bunch of car club peeps all gathered in the area. I'm interested in exploring the food scene. Instead, we end up dining at Twin Peaks because there was a coupon for free queso. And if I'm correct on my timeline Marfa Texas Kitchen had just opened. Cut to the chase MFT is a stunner. Attention to detail started with the calamari. Cute albeit purely theater Chinese togo box (branded with restaurant logo) with some nice crunchy goodness. Solid dipping sauces. Girls had Tortilla Soup. On my side having already consumed a couple of gin drinks I chose to snack on the Fig and Goat Cheese appetizer. Great pairing of flavors; crunchy crostini was the perfect vessel for consumption. We also devoured the Deviled Eggs with similar vigor. Atmosphere is trendy and artsy. You could make the case of pretentious which is what Marfa totally screams but it doesn't transfer into this space. We visited with one of the proprietors; glad to know the restaurant is in it's second year. Dining room will fill up fast! Highly recommended and make reservations! read more

Great service, good food (although crispy Brussels Sprouts could have used some seasoning), good drinks menu (would love to see Japanese Sake - rice wine varieties on the menu, to complement the Japanese whiskies), and cool/fresh ambience. First time here. The restaurant is very cute. Laid back, Texas hipster vibes. Modern diner environment. Coffee was good, no espresso just coffee. Bar drinks are above par, housemade syrups and fresh juices. The bartender served us. She, Lacey (if I remember correctly) was great, had good recommendations and was very knowledgeable. It was pretty good, but it felt like it needed salt and pepper (which there was none on the table) the potatoes were like mini smashed potatoes, some crispy, some not. Lots of parking available and located in Tower Point area! Kind of pricey for the food. This was one of the cheaper things on the menu being around 20ish dollars. Everything else was $30+. My mother and I went in to try this place during their social hour (4-6pm) on a Thursday. The atmosphere is very dark and is not super reminiscent of Marfa, TX to me but I read the story on their website and that's not the goal. I think it was smart to call the restaurant Marfa because it's all about getting people in that door. We got a bunch of small plates for 6-8 bucks and everything was incredible. The fried calamari and zucchini was our favorite and the BBQ sliders were a close second. I did not love the Figgin Drink I keep seeing on here but I tried it anyway. I don't know why but it just didn't have any recognizable tasting notes and just felt like I was drinking alcohol. My old fashioned was not anything special either. I must say the service was incredible and it was awesome for the manager/owner to check on us. I still feel as if there is room for improvement here for the price point. I would return for a burger though! read more

Quite a surprising find for us! It's located a bit away from most of the main attractions of the area, but it's worth finding! First, the interior was a great combination of western and modern decor, with more emphasis on the modern. Then there was the food! Our server was very patient with us in explaining the menu. We shared the "Fig & Goat" appetizer, which was a nice combination of fig jam over goat cheese, but that was some of the best goat cheese we've ever had! We also shared a Beet Sandwich and that was the star! The beets were really done well and stood up well instead of the usual meat. Overall, a great restaurant. People witness how you treat others and might make a review. Manager/ owner was extremely rude. From entering the doorway before a greeting was even attempted. Don't try to have fancy restaurant if you are not classy enough to handle people coming in. This is not fish daddies. Top Line: MTK is very much worth a visit. Everything, from drinks to apps to mains were all on point. Drink menu is outstanding, and Marfa delivered on its promise. A "Figgin' Drink" was awesome -- a sort of twisted old fashioned -- and other cocktails were also well done. We did a quick shareable salad as an appetizer -- fantastic. Well above expectations. Chicken fried steak entree was quite delicious, but the star this night was the Scottish salmon -- perfectly cooked and outstanding. Both entrees came with crushed potatoes, which were irresistable. I really enjoyed my time here while visiting in college station. I wanted to try something different and unique to the area and they did not disappoint. We started off with drinks. Unfortunately I cannot remember the names, but they were good. My partner ordered the drink with the large Ice Cube and it was strong! I ordered a drink with hibiscus that had a grapefruit flavor and it was very light and fresh. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and grits and it was so good. It really did have a little kick to it and the fried green tomatoes were cooked to perfection. I really could have just eaten that. I'll order the scallops and crawfish linguine. It was more on the dry side to me. My partner ordered the salmon with potatoes and his food was cooked very well. My kid had grilled shrimp with brussel sprouts which are also very tasty. I ended up more so eating her food that my own. Our server was very good and I love their cute outfits. She always came at the right time and didn't have her. The restaurant had a very cute vibe. Their bathrooms are adorable and very clean. I will definitely come back here if I came back to college station and recommend that you do as well. read more

The vibe and decor are good. My friends and I were excited to try it. The dinner menu is bare bones. I ordered the chicken which wasn't seasoned. The sauce on the outer edge of the plate was BBQ sauce-like. A friend ordered the salmon. It came out bright pink/raw in the middle. Each of the other two times it came back more bright pink in the center. The waitress did not know how to handle it. A manager came by and made excuses. No one ever apologized for the raw salmon. Decent new restaurant in CS. We stopped by on a Sunday & it wasn't too busy because they had just opened at 11. I had to order an app before being served a bloody mary which was a bit different from other places i've been to. It has vibes, if few and far between. Walking in, it was like a scaled back/more conservative/subdued hip restaurant. Food wise, the deviled eggs were tasty (a little small). The bison burger was a bit too salty for my taste but the fries were delicious. If you're looking for brunch, this is not the place. They only have a lunch and an expanded dinner menu, which was a bit disappointing. Personally, this is more of a 3-star place for me, but 4 star for college station. Not my personal fave & i'm not sure i'd come back but it's a new small biz restaurant in a city full of fast food places & chains. read more

My daughter recently moved to college station for work, so we have been spending some time up there seeing her. First time to Marfas the other night, and overall it was pretty good. Very nice place, staff was really good and the food was really good as well. They had a nice happy hour menu as well. I would say the only downside was that they did not have Diet Coke, they only offered Coke Zero. ( I know, it's not that big of a deal. ) but also, they charged $3.25 for a Coke Zero and then you get a can with no refills. If you are going to charge for refills, the cost of a drink should be lower (or I should get free refills). Also, if you are charging that much for a can of soda, why not have Diet Coke as well. I will probably go back after trying other places in town, but I will just be drinking water next time as I do t like establishments that charge per can. read more
