The staff members were kind as I had both kids for cleaning at the same time and they were seated at opposite ends so I had to walk back and forth to check up on them. Parents are welcome in the back to observe. My kids and I are wimps and this location off Sunland park have the most patient staff. The hygienists and dentists have the gentlest hands. I know I fell asleep when she worked on repairing a filling. They worked with our schedules and we all were able to get our cleanings and fillings done with our insurance. Billing was very clear and they asked permission before doing any procedures. I felt very safe with their COVID procedures. They do temperature checks and limit capacity. I believe they have a East and West location and went to the Sunland park location. Best of all it's right across from Gorditas Tony so we're able to get yummy food right after.

While the clinical staff was polite and I appreciated their honesty in admitting they weren't comfortable performing surgery on that specific tooth, the administrative and management side of this business is an absolute train wreck. An entire year after my appointment, I received a casual text message from "Kayla" stating that they were just now processing a dental insurance claim from May 28, 2025. They asked me to text them back either the billing zip code or the primary subscriber's Social Security Number. Because texting an SSN is a massive data security risk, and waiting a full year to process a claim is incredibly sloppy, I left a review calling out the delay. The owner immediately responded to my review with a blatant public lie, claiming they had called and text blasted me "throughout the year trying to get this fixed" but that I had ignored them. Fortunately, I have the receipts. I uploaded screenshots of my text history with this office proving that every single communication they sent me over the last year was an automated marketing push trying to get me to schedule a routine cleaning. When I called the office to confront them about this, the receptionist looked at my file and completely contradicted the owner's response. She admitted their internal records show they only attempted to contact me about insurance ONCE in August 2025, and then sat on it for nine months until today. It gets worse. When I spoke to the manager about why the owner publicly lied on Google and blamed me for "ignoring" them, his actual defense was: "Maybe if you answered when we called for a dental cleaning, we would have asked about insurance too." Expecting a patient to telepathically guess that a routine marketing call for a cleaning is actually an urgent insurance issue is completely absurd. Instead of taking accountability for a massive back-office delay and fixing their dishonest public reply, management chose to double down on gaslighting. They have a crazy credit card payment system and they may have charged me twice because they thought it didn't go thru. The doctor was very thorough and I felt comfortable with working with him. Last, since I will not be returning, I asked for my medical records to be sent over to the new office. Good luck with that process as they won't answer the phone or respond to emails. It will take at least a week to get them transferred over according to the person who handles that process. Don't be fooled by the low intro prices they offer, it's not worth it and the other charges can get expensive quickly.

Needless to say, it was a trip to urgent care because it was Sunday and there were no dentists open. He had an abscess tooth. Antibiotics were prescribed and we were told to watch throughout the day to see if the swelling went down or grew worse. By the next morning we were noticing a slight worsening and so on the the E.R. we went. (I preface all this to give you the best picture of a family, scared for our little boy and unsure what to do or where to go). The E.R. doctor told us to get a dentist, right away. Here I am, completely at a loss. I do a quick Google search and there is Smile Heroes with top ratings and stellar reviews. "Sure," I think, "this is the internet. It's easy to pad the opinion to get clients." I called to gauge the atmosphere and was greeted by a friendly receptionist. More than that, I explained my son's dilemma and she was legitimately concerned and intent on getting us in as soon as possible. I'm feeling better. Here's at least one person who seems to care and not put on the clinical robot facade. Okay. Onto the Dentist... WHICH WAS AMAZING (two times amazing!) First off, the setting is brilliant. The dentists have made the place to be a sort of gaming center, which immediately engaged my children and stifled all those 'scary dentist fears'. The kids played, we filled out the paperwork in peace and the staff was incredibly helpful. My wife was able to go in the back with my son. The dental assistants were very gentle with him and with her concerns. And then Dr. Pham was in to see them within a few minutes. He was very kind and thorough in his examination. He identified the problem and recommended we get my son in that very evening to take care of the tooth. So my wife comes back that night with my son and he is happy to go back and play! Unfortunately for him, there was not much play, because the dentist was incredible efficient in getting him back and settled in a room where my wife held him while a movie played. All my wife's questions and concerns were addressed. The procedure was extremely quick. My son was well taken care of, throughout, and Dr. Pham even called that night and the following morning to check on him. Dr. Pham has a gift of empathy and patience that put us all at ease. He is REALLY GOOD with children. He and his wife even came out to chat with us after our son's check up, just to get to know us. His wife played with our kids while we talked. Such a great couple! I cannot recommend this establishment enough. These people legitimately care, which is unfortunately not something you find in many businesses, today. Everyone on staff is respectful and friendly. Such a wonderful experience. My family is so blessed to have found Smile Heroes.
