It would probably save you all of your time and money to never come here. I came in on a quiet Tuesday afternoon asking for something simple. Just highlights/balayage for my dark brown hair. I'll leave a photo below. I had gotten my highlights done at that same salon a year prior and they turned out okay, nothing to complain about but they weren't really blended into my roots but it was okay for me since they would grow out anyways. So, I showed her my picture and she tells me it's not possible to get done at first since I already have highlights that have grown out in my hair. Ummm.. ok? Then the manager comes over and says to just foul my hair so that's exactly what she does. After leaving me in the chair to sit and wait with the bleach soaking my hair... an hour and 15 mins go by (my hair dresser starts taking walk ins and just taking her sweet time). We wash my hair out and the light brown "highlights" I asked for turn out to be BRIGHT YELLOW. Of course I'm unhappy and she asks me to choose a new color. I pick a caramel brown/dirty blonde (FOR MY HIGHLIGHTS) but clearly there was a miscommunication because she made a new mixture and threw it all over my roots. I was unaware we were going to be dying my whole head... but ok. She washes it out and the roots are so uneven and the color is totally mismatched it looks like a blind woman did my hair!!!! I start to cry (dramatic I know...) while telling her my hair looks nothing like what I asked for. She proceeds to to try and fix her mistake by slabbing MORE dye onto my whole head to make it darker but BOY was that a mistake. She left the dye on much longer than the first time that my scalp was ON FIRE! I knew this was not normal. After everything she still had the nerve to tell me my total would be $185. Seriously! You messed up my hair and you're still going to OVERCHARGE me?!!!! I still tipped $20 too, what a shame. The end result was nothing to complain about besides the fact that my hair was absolutely DEAD! 24 hours after leaving the salon, my whole head started to itch and my forehead/sideburns were scorched red. I got an allergic reaction to the excessive hair dye used to soak my head and ended up in the Emergency Room where they hooked me up to an IV. The owner does not give a sh#t about what happened and offered to buy me Neosporin (which has no healing factor for anaphylactic reactions, so.. that was useless. Please do not get your hair done here unless it's a petty haircut. Save your time and money. read more

I have coarse and straight Asian hair but lucky through good genetics I don't have to worry about hair loss. With that said, my simple #2 or #3 for the side, straight up with soft edge, hasn't been how I like it from a lot of barbers; instead of straight up, the center bulges out or transition to my right to left comb-over looks ragged. Its been a challenge to find a shop with more than one barber that I like. After many years of experiencing different barbers, I find I have higher success with Vietnamese barbers. I've been here four times in the past year. I was using 44th St Barber. The first time, I thought service was equivalent to 44th. 44th has a lot of barbers and rarely any wait time, I was satisfied but most of the time it wasn't exactly how I want it, but really like Justin and Tony. I happy I can go to either place. After the second visit, I finally have great haircut. My son's wasn't how my wife like it. However at the third visit, I really like how Hannah cut my hair. My wife thought Dan cut my son's hair exactly how she wanted it. My first time here was with Tina, second with Kim and today with Dan, and very happy with the result. Note bring cash to saved on card fees. To comment on customer service, I've been in Vietnam several times and their tone and service is not culturally like the US, and the US is far from the Japanese (amazing from my experience), after our second visit they were more open sharing family stories, but usually I'm in and out - IMHO its a barber not a spa. I took my son there for a haircut today. I've been hesitating for months due to Covid so it was important to me that employees wear masks. When we came in, all employees were wearing masks. The female hairstylist was great. She was very patient because my toddler was scared. Halfway through, the male employee pulled his mask to his chin. The other 3 females had their masks on the whole time. I mentioned my concern to the hairstylist working on my son. She replied, "he pulls it down because he has to wear it all day, it hurts his ears, it's bad for his ears, ear infection (?!!!)..." I then told her that my 3 year old wears his mask for school, that I also wear a mask ALL day for work. I said I was uncomfortable, she brushed it off. She's not the owner, so I don't fault her for not enforcing the rule. But, I rushed out of there and I will never return. read more

We came here, because after my sons' hockey practices at Olympic View Arena, my sons suddenly begged for haircuts. I had an impression that hair salons near Asian markets were cheap, so we came here to give it a try. When I checked in from my Yelp app, it showed me a coupon for $14 haircut. Don't be tricked! The regular men's haircut is $14, so you don't get any discount. There is no price sign anywhere inside or outside the salon. There's only a notice telling us that they raised their rate to be "starting from $13.99." When you pay, they will tell you it's $14. The service was quick, because there were more staff than customers. Both my sons got haircuts as soon as we entered. However, they didn't even bother to ask my sons if they were satisfied by showing them a mirror to see the back. Both my sons (10 and 13) were complaining. At any salon, I would think it's a basic service that they need to give you a mirror to see the back. They don't do it here. They just rushed my boys out of the chairs, and rushed us to pay. The haircuts themselves were so-so. Not good, but not so bad to embarrass my sons. However, we will never come back. With this price, I know many decent places where they provide better haircuts and better services. read more

Oh my god this place effed up my hair so bad. The lady was nice and seemed like she knew what I wanted (which was literally just a trim), so she started cutting, but used the razor a lot and didn't even try to smooth out all my hair. Quick service, and affordable prices! Weekdays are pretty slow, but there could be a bit of a wait on the weekends. I have pretty long hair so my cuts are about $25. This has been my go-to hair salon for a haircut for the past 4 years, and I have never had a problem. I've had my hair cut by several of the workers, but Danh (the male worker) usually cuts my hair and he does a pretty good job. I read previous reviews about him cutting your hair shorter than you would like, but I noticed it's because he just wants to cut off the split ends; which is better for your hair in the long run, otherwise it'll keep splitting lol. Besides that, he always does exactly what I ask for. Overall, this place isn't too bad at all. I will continue coming here for my haircuts. read more

Our family has been coming here for a couple years now. It was my husband who decided to try it first and liked the haircut he received for what was at the time a fairly good price. Our first time here reminded me of that female comedian who does that bit on going into an Asian nail salon. As we sat down it was only obvious they were talking about us. Needless to say our first experience wasn't a comfortable one. But we kept returning and as they got to know us as well as our hair everything got better. Unfortunately their prices have increased and they're now the same price as our neighborhood Hair Masters or Super Cuts. So the family is now struggling with the decision of having to find another salon closer to home as traffic has become relentless and unless we need to go grocery shopping at Ranch 99 it's really not saving us a whole lot. But I digress. We've only used their services for haircuts and I can say that if you have a picture to show them of what you want or that they've been cutting your style for a while then they're pretty good at what they do. And even when the salon is full they're pretty quick so the wait isn't too long. Overall this is a pretty good hair salon on the cheaper end of the spectrum. read more

Not a bad place for a hair cut. I normally come to this place once or twice a month. Usually this place is busy, so you might have to wait at least 10-20 minutes. Their hair cut is great, but if you needed a certain hair cut style you might struggle. You might need to explain what needs to be done few times. The prices are reasonable, unless if you want to include your goatee then that will be a not reasonable extra charge. read more

I really like Kim (the owner) and Danh (the male stylist). Kim is one of my favorite stylist, especially for hair colors. She pays attention to great details and takes a good amount of her time to do it right. I won't like to do hair colors any where else. Danh has done a great job with my hair cuts. He knew what is need to be done to make you looks good and give you honest feedbacks. I don't know why he got negative comment hear. Perhaps because he tell his customer his honest opinion that what they request him to do for their new hair styles won't look good for them or good for their hair. The fastest haircut in the West! The lady (I don't know her name--was too intimidated to ask, she didn't smile at all) who cut my hair had some mad snipping skillz, and I was out in what it seemed like 15 minutes. Although the process was quick, cold, and efficient, she made sure at frequent intervals to make sure that the length she was cutting at was alright with me. In all, I paid only $14. This Saturday was my first time there. And it is definitely my last time. I was served by the male hairdresser. His attitude couldn't be worse. He totally destroyed my hair style even after I required to keep my previous style several times. And it seems very difficult for him to understand my request. He was very impatient when I asked him to fix it. Then he just let me show him where I am not satisfied and cut the part rudely. I have to adjust them myself later. I have been coming here for five years now and honestly, the female hair stylists are great and the guy isn't so bad either. Also the prices are great! I usually pay with cash, but the other day I forgot to bring enough cash with me and paid with card. The haircut was $14 for a men's haircut and I know for a fact that they only charged me $14 in the store. I gave them cash tip of $5 and not card tip. Few days later, I see that they charged me $18. Knowing that in the store they charged me $14, I knew that they forged the card tip and charged me $4 more. I know it's only $4 but I feel I have been cheated since I gave them a great tip as well. I would recommend people to come here but make sure to only pay cash. If you are paying with card, make sure to keep your customer copy and write down how much card tip you give them. Hopefully, they see this and won't do this again. It's not cool. read more

Unfortunately this place has no knowledge on what customer service is, they do not know time management and the concept of an appointment. The focus in this review is the owner and hair cut person named HELEN. If she considers you her regular and the next time you come for a haircut and decides to go with a different stylist, she takes that personally and either that stylist gets fired or she won't entertain you whatsoever. My wife and I came into 99 hair on July the 11 2015, we called hours before to make an appointment with Dan, Helen was the one who confirmed and answered the phone. We arrived and nobody entertained us or gave us any status on how many clients are left before it was our turn. 1 hour has past and finally we inquired, it turns out that HELEN never informed DAN that we made an appointment. HELEN taking the matter personally that when we decided to go with DAN for a haircut made us wait and made us feel uncomfortable. HELEN of 99 hair is completely unprofessional. If it's ok, I don't even want to give a star on this post. I went there with my mom who doesn't speak English. I did the translation instead. The male stylist was so impatient. During the whole process, he even didn't ask any of our opinion. Even worse, I recommended him to fix part of the hair where he didn't trimmed well.
