I went in for a basic manicure and pedicure, and during the process, the technician pulled out a drill file. I specifically asked not to have my nails drilled, as I don't like the potential damage it can cause--especially since I was only getting regular polish. She explained that the tool was for my cuticles, not the nail surface, and asked if that was okay. Since I haven't had my nails done in about six months and am not an expert, I agreed. During the cuticle work, I did feel some discomfort and mentioned that it felt warm around my cuticles. She adjusted her pressure slightly after that, which I appreciated. However, during the next 72 hours, my nails became increasingly sensitive, especially to heat--like when washing my hair or doing dishes. After doing some research, it seems this may have been a version of a "Russian manicure." My cuticles are now very tender, and my nail beds still feel sore. Additionally, one of my nails chipped and another cracked just a few days later. I know that regular polish doesn't last as long, so I'll take some responsibility there, but I expected at least a week before any noticeable wear. On the positive side, the technician was very kind and the salon itself was clean and welcoming. That said, the discomfort and sensitivity I'm experiencing make it unlikely that I'll return. This was definitely a learning experience for me--next time, if a drill is involved in any way with cuticle care, I'll politely decline.

When booking online, I selected "long hair" at the listed $65 price. Thankfully I confirmed the pricing upon arrival, because later during the appointment I was told my hair was "longer than long" and would actually cost $75. That felt frustrating and unclear. The haircut itself also didn't feel worth the price. The stylist didn't seem particularly confident, and overall the service lacked the attention and professionalism I would expect at this price point. I also wasn't greeted when I arrived, wasn't offered a place to put my belongings, and after my wash I was left walking back dripping wet without much assistance. The stylist who did my hair also came across as very cold and rude throughout the appointment, even though I tried to be friendly and kind. That said, there was another woman working there who seemed genuinely warm and welcoming to other customers, so maybe I was just unlucky with who I was paired with. At the end, my hair was straightened without really asking whether that was how I wanted it styled. When I asked about curling it instead, I was told the straightening counted as the one complimentary style. They eventually offered to curl it anyway, but only after I explained I hadn't wanted it straightened in the first place. Overall, this felt more comparable to a basic chain salon experience while charging significantly more. As someone with long women's hair, I personally wouldn't return or recommend it based on my experience.

Found this salon and Sue thru Groupon for partial highlights. Decided to also get a haircut and am so happy I did! I've searched high and low for someone to cut my wavy/curly, cow-licked hair that has befuddled me every single day of my life. In my search I've visited salon after salon, had expensive cuts from "expert" stylists but the cuts always left me unbelievably frustrated because I had to settle for liking my hair ONLY about 2 weeks between cuts whether it was 6 weeks or 6 months. This time was different as I walked out of the salon after Sue's cut, loving the cut from that point on until she cut it the next time! And my hair was unbelievably easy to managed all during the time between! Easy to manage and quick to fix! Life saver!!! And people that don't have wavy/curly, cow-licked hair that has no symmetry do not understand that every day is an ordeal. This is the first time in my life (at 61 years of age) I've enjoyed my hair and haircuts from cut to cut! Needless to say, I can't give Sue a higher recommendation!!!! read more

Sue has worked on my hair for over a decade now. From a keratin treatment to many wonderful haircuts. She is the only person I will see. Lately I have been doing Botox for my hair. It has brought my hair back after cancer treatment. No one but Sue does this. I had written about my treatments before but those reviews have disappeared. So let me tell you about my most recent haircut. My hair is fine but wispy. Sue understands this. She added just the right amount of layers so I have volume. She is a precision cutter. She listened to me. She also colored my hair. I have the ugliest grey hair and now with Sue I have dark brownish black hair with a touch of warm reddish brown giving a dimension to it. This would have cost me three times more downtown. So I go regularly. I would suggest you go in and get to know Sue. She does a great blow out too. This is my second visit to Ideal Salon. I decided to look for a new hair stylist as I felt I was paying too much for too many years. I found a groupon for my 1st visit with Sue, the owner. My experience was so good, I knew I had found my new "Hair" home. A coupon deal got me in but her prices are so reasonable and her talent and years of experience will keep me going there from now on. On that 1st visit, I had partial highlights and a deep conditioning and was thrilled with the outcome. I had so many compliments. This visit, 3+ months later, I had the same treatment but added a haircut and realized her talent extends to all aspects of hair. The cut was great! My hairdresser moved to Marysville from Edmonds, after being with her for so many years I was nervous to find another hairdresser. I decided to try 3 hairdressers from Edmonds. Sue of Ideal Salon was my first try, and she did such a fabulous job with the cut and color I have been going to her ever since and never tried any other hairdressers.
