Ordered the prime rib on Sunday and it was tough as leather! Actually, I believe an old leather shoe would've probably tasted better too! The salad was downsized for some reason and looked limp and sad, the broccoli side dish looked more like a garnish on the plate, the potato was dry and cold, and for some reason they gave me a ramekin of Tatar sauce?!? Epic fail, ordered to go lunch by phone, was told 15 minutes, 20 minutes later I arrived, nobody at the to go booth, 5 minutes passes and a woman walks over, "can I help you" she says. I say yep to go order for Joe, she says 1 minute and walks away, never to return, 10 minutes later a man walks over, asks the same thing, he goes to look for my order and comes back and says 5 more minutes. 15 minutes later I get my order and when I get back to my location, guess what? Yep, shame on me for not checking it out before I left, wrong order. So disappointed. read more

This was awful. From our drinks that we're flat to the steak that was raw that had to be sent back twice before we gave up, it was a terrible experience. The only saving grace was a manager named Mike who was incredibly kind. Mike, find a better restaurant. You deserve it. read more

It's what you would expect from a family-style restaurant with a really big menu. They give you popcorn before you order which is delicious (probably due to the salty butter powder it's smothered in). Both times I've come I've gotten the fish tacos, which is a decent amount of food for the price ($9.99). It's the only restaurant of that style in the Charlestown area, so probably great for a big group with kids. read more

I can only give the 99 any 99 two stars. The food is just OK I do not care for the steak or steak tips, Chicken Parm is eatable but not great Papa Ginos across the parking lot has much better Chicken Parm. I do love the Balsamic chicken at the 99 but you get a very small portion and you have to ask for extra balsamic dressing. It's not a bad place to have a couple beers but I do not really drink that much so that is not a huge factor for me. I think the biggest problem I have is how much the menu changes. Like I said I love the Balsamic Chicken and they took it off the menu for a short time then it was back not even sure it's still offered. Whether you are a townie, toonie, or tourist, 99 is just a fun time. The menu is decent.. They have options which will please most appetites including vegetarians. I had the sirloin steak rare with fries and broccoli. The steak was cooked perfectly, the fries were serviceable. Been here many times and thought it's time to write a review. This "99" is a favorite of my out-of-town visitors and Charlestown friends, so we end up here often. There is always plenty of parking, good fish dishes (stay away from "steak"), prices are reasonable, and service is excellent. I'm perfectly comfortable to eat here alone, where I usually find neighbors. Not a drinker, so I can't comment on prices/quality of drinks, but the Fish and Chips and Scrod are favorites. Also, on occasion they serve a terrific chocolate dessert! On hot,humid days, they still keep the place nice and cool which is important to me. One star deducted for noise level and (can't order) steaks. Not gourmet, but casual, dependable, friendly, and reasonable dining. read more

Came in tonight on a whim, had been to several 99s before and always seem to have a consistent experience. Generally we sit at the bar however we chose a table tonight. Upon being seated we were quickly greeted by our server Mimi. The restaurant was busy however she seemed calm, talkative and welcoming. Ours drinks arrived quickly and so didn't our food. This was my first time at this particular 99. The waitress was attentive at the beginning but then forgot to bring our check. We waited for quite a while until she came over and we asked for our check. She was prompt in bringing it to the table, but we needed change and didn't want to wait for her to come back. The bar has no change for a 20, and neither did the take out. The manager at the takeout portion was really rude when I asked. We waited longer to leave than it took to eat. My boyfriend and I love it here....I'm not sure why. Probably because it's so close by. They have a few horrible servers, (Stephanie. I asked her for a dessert menu two months ago and I'm still waiting) never have anyone at the service desk to seat you, and ALWAYS forget the free popcorn. But we keep going back. Bar was great until the bald bar tender took over. My drink was never refilled, he never responded to my thanks or pleases. He also would not allow us to drink more because we were loud, during a sports game of all occasions. Extremely disappointed in the bar tending staff, will not allow the bald man to serve us again. I took my family to the 99 for dinner last night. My wife and I each got the Three Course Bistro Meal special. Wow! What a deal to get three courses for such a great value. I had Chicken and Corn Chowder, Pork Chops and the Brownie dessert. My wife started with a salad and then had Chicken & Vodka Penne and Carrot Cake. My kids both got something off the kids menu - also a big hit. Everyone left happy, which is always a great thing. We'll definitely come back for the Three Course Bistro Meal again. read more

OK, I know it's not fine dining but I live nearby so I had to give it a try. I actually thought it was good within its category. This may be colored by the fact that my expectations were so low, it would have had to be a truly terrible meal to disappoint me. This place is an absolute joke. Right from the start, no one at the hostess counter, she finally saunters over, total attitude. Sits us down, waitress saunters over, takes drink orders. Brings out drinks, takes food orders. Says "I'll bring you some more silverware and napkins". About an hour later, another waitress comes over with our food and another set of attitude. Food is all ridiculously over cooked. Pretty sure it spent about a half hour under the heat lamp. Fries are soggy and gross. Wife can't take the burger, sends it back and is subject to a fresh round of attitude. By the time the new burger comes, we are all done with our food, oh and she forgot to bring new fries! I had to go up and ask for the silverware and napkins, they glanced up from their phones just long enough to grudgingly hand them to me. Just trying to get a half decent meal after my sons hockey game across the street, never again! And to top it off, the bathroom was disgusting, like the men's room at fox borough after a game. Server Marco, SUCKED! Right from the get go, he was rude and f-ing dumb! My niece asked for a mt. dew and got sprite. OK, no big deal, but then everything else was awful. About 20 minutes after we ordered, I had to ask for our salad. 10 minutes later we received, only after I asked him again, and asked what kinds of dressings they had, since, no choices were offered. ALL of our meals came out completely wrong. What should have been a prime rib cooked medium was so well done, it was gray and shriveled. I asked for a turkey club on white bead with cheese. It came with no cheese and on wheat. When I said something to Marco, his response was "apparently, they don't have white bread" By this point, I was furious and asked for a manager. Suzie, did come over and apologize. We never again did see the server, he just kept walking by the table ignoring us. A few weeks ago, I was assigned by my English professor a restaurant review of my choice for extra-credit. For days, I did not know which restaurant to go. I checked some of them online, but none got my attention. The only thing that I was sure of was that I wanted to go to a welcoming place. Last week, I thought about that commercial that I had heard on the radio. Their slogan was stuck in my head, "Ninety Nine Restaurant, Great Meal, Great deal". The short slogan was really catchy and definitely got my attention. Finally, last Saturday, I went there with my boyfriend to the Ninety Nine Restaurant next to our school at Charlestown. It was what I expected, great place and great music. Our server was really nice, smiled through the whole night and kept checking on us. The food was great and well cooked. I had a Backyard Chicken with barbeque sauce with two sides of French fries and broccoli. I reached into my boyfriend's plate and tasted some of his delicious honey chicken wraps. We had a great time. We will be back for sure! read more
