We spent a wonderful time dining at Warren Tavern. It has an old-timey charm. We started with the New England Chowder and it was absolutely delicious, so thick, just how I like it. For my meal I had the BBQ mixed grill with veggies and my girlfriend had the Shepherd's pie. The Mixed grill came with steak tips, Italian sausage, and chicken breast, I really enjoyed my meal. The short rib shepherd's pie was absolutely delicious, it was so flavorful and filling. We loved or meals and would definitely go back.
My daughter and I stumbled into Warren Tavern on a Friday after she picked me up from the Greyhound station not realizing we had picked the oldest taverns in Mass.- just chasing their $1 happy hr oysters. It felt like history the moment we walked in: cozy, warmly lit, with worn wood that's clearly seen centuries. Our server, Cookie, was a gem- he was pleasant and attentive without hovering. Food-wise, it was mostly a miss. The oysters (which we found out were from NY ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) were puny. My kid's clam chowder- that's made without bacon was too thick and floury. The fried calamari, though, had a standout tangy, spicy glaze that we loved- but the coating was on the thick side. The vibe is nice as was the service- just wished the food was better.
We were looking for a late night spot to grab drinks after a show at The Garden. Thankfully Warren Tavern was open until 1am and was the perfect spot. I loved the historical aspect of it and the fact it has so much history including George Washington having drinks here. Have to love the historical buildings that have been in operation for so long in the New England region. At least late at night it had dive bar vibes and had more people than I expected for a late night Monday. We grabbed a table for our party of 5 and bartender brought us the drinks menus. They had a great variety available and we all were able to enjoy two drinks before they closed. My wife enjoyed two blood orange margaritas and I had a grey tea old fashioned and a take on an espresso martini that featured an addition of Guinness in it. All of the cocktails were well made with friendly service from the bartender. Due to stopping in for late night drinks I cannot speak to the food. I would definitely return for both the drinks and overall vibes. Our entire party loved the music selection being played too. Worth your time to visit for sure!
I liked the Warren Tavern, there was a short wait, the atmosphere was old Tavern, ,which it certainly was, did George Washington really eat here? Service was very good, although when they served my Shepherds Pie, the server realized they hadn't brought my Clam Chowder, I told her I would have it after I finished my Shepherds Pie, well, it never came, I was full after that, the Shepherds Pie was good and the right size... The bathroom was small and pretty disgusting as these things go...but this place is old as can be, so whatever. Can't wait to go back, they also had a great bar, good variety of anything you'd want.
During sale 250 Warren Tavern was very busy, but the customer service was on point we were seated quickly and our drinks and food came out in a timely manner. If you get a chance, go try this restaurant. My bloody Mary was really good and my meal was fresh and good and their French onion soup is really good. The history of this restaurant is amazing and the it adds to the ambience of the restaurant.

It has been in operation since like 1774... so some pretty important people have drank in this Tavern!!! We went there on our last night for dinner!! They have the Best Clam Chowder!!! And we tried alot!!! The Fish and Chips were great and I actually tried some Raw Oysters!!! $1/oyster for Happy Hour!!! I love the old look of the building. It does slant a bit but that is the Charm!!! Check it out if you are in the Boston area. Our server was attentive but let us enjoy our meal.
On our second day in Boston, after roaming around, I wanted to find a nice spot for my cousin's birthday dinner. I did some research and we decided to try the Warren Tavern since it had great reviews, one of the historical tavern in the US, was open late, and offered both indoor and outdoor seating. The only downside was the parking, it was really tough. As tourists, it wasn't easy to find a spot. The restaurant staff suggested parking in the residential area, but we were worried about getting in trouble. At one point, someone even asked if we were residents, and of course we weren't, so we had to keep looking. Eventually, we ended up parking at a nearby 7-Eleven, grabbing a few items so we could leave the car there, which honestly saved the night! Once we got inside, it was all about the food, and it did not disappoint. We ordered the lump crab cakes, New England clam chowder, fish tacos, and lobster mac and cheese. Since it was chilly both outside and inside (and pretty loud, too!), we stuck with warm water to drink. The service was excellent, and every dish was absolutely delicious. The only dish that didn't wow me was the fish tacos, but that's just because I'm used to San Diego style tacos, which are very different. These felt more European/English in style. Still good, but the other dishes stood out more for me. Overall, we had such a great experience. The food, the service, and the cozy vibe made it worth it, and I'm extra grateful there was a 7-Eleven nearby so we could park and enjoy a wonderful birthday dinner.
Stopped by on my last hour in Boston to have a walk around the neighborhood, some chowder, and a beer Music was very loud even though I was sat at a nice 2 person table in the dinning area near the windows .... Took away any charm of being 'the oldest tavern in Massachusetts' Chowder was heavy cream broth and VERY little chucks of food/meat - quite a disappointment Beer was great and hostess sat me quickly and the neighborhood is a nice walk ....
Great place to visit and eat, especially if you are visiting the Boston Historic sites. The inside was really cool looking with original ambiance. Food was delicious. I had the fish and chips and my family had the burgers and fries(truffle). The service was excellent. The waitress was very kind and helped us with walking directions to the naval shipyard.
5 stars for the friendly service. 3 stars for the food. Food is not great, it's okay. It is what it is. Clam chowder is clam chowder. Crab cakes taste like crab cakes. Shepherds pie was exactly that. I don't know why there wasn't any wow factor but it's okay. Come for the ambiance. George Washington came here. It's an old historic building which is super cool. Nice place to hang out and chill with friends.

Walking around we came across this tavern & decided to give it a try. Once settled we started with some drinks Blueberry mule, nice taste & good amount of alcohol. Also had Sam Addams good beer. We started with the Tavern wings, lemon herb, yumm the wings were very tasty good sauce, crispy & good size wings. Also tried the Clam showier, it was good. Next up the Steak & cheese egg rolls , such a simple idea yet so tasty they were great w the chipotle aioli dipping sauce & finally the Lobster Mac & cheese was not bad. There's something to be said when dinning at a place that has such a history kinda cool to know that people like our nations first president dined here, Mr Washington. The restaurant has a nice colonial charm, that steps back into the 18th century with the modern amenities of TV's to catch all the sports game. Good size restaurant, great service & the nostalgia of dinning at one the countries oldest eateries was nice, we enjoyed our time here. read more

Pretty good food this is the oldest Tavern in Boston. Ambiance is historic for sure def feels like you're in a tavern. I got the shepherds pie and it was really good. Very happy with it. My husband got the hanger steak and he said it was delicious. Def recommend coming here especially for the historical aspect. read more

A true old-fashioned tavern, with all that gritty, dark atmosphere. But instead of Strider watching you from a dimly lit corner, you'll find Paul Revere. They say George Washington ate here in 1789! The food was GREAT (they even had malt vinegar for my fish!) and the ice tea was refreshing even without sugar. Staff was super nice and attentive. I was here at lunch hour, but I would love to come by in the evening for that dark, brooding feel of Patriots scheming against the British. read more
We had a great stop here this year! I had a delicious spicy margarita and a cup of clam chowder. We also tried the crab cakes, which were very good but small for the price. The atmosphere alone is worth it to stop in for at least a drink or two, and the service matched in quality! read more

I stumbled across The Warren Tavern by accident while wandering off the Freedom Trail, and was very glad I did! I was looking for a nice spot for lunch and found the oldest tavern in MA, what a treat! It's very classic inside, and was not very busy when I arrived around 1PM on a Monday. It almost felt like a locals hangout, which surprised me for what a historical site it is. The bartender was friendly and attentive. They had several good beers on draft, and a good looking food menu. I ordered the lobster roll with truffle fries and it was great. Very happy I found this spot and was able to enjoy a meal in the same tavern George Washington visited! read more

A true trip back in time! This is the perfect spot to conclude your journey of the freedom trail. A short walk from bunker hill monument will take you back several hundred years. I regret not taking pictures of all of our food, but here's what we got: Buffalo wings - Hands down the best buffalo wings we have ever had Lobster mac and cheese - Phenomenal, the perfect pick me up on a crisp fall day Shepherds Pie - Great as well, nothing bad to say Clam Chowder - What else is there to say? I miss it everyday Took us a while to get our food but they were PACKED, I don't hold that against them, as we were enjoying the character the tavern had to offer. Wood beams, old floors, a super cool spot that that is an absolute must visit. read more

Loved our late night dinner here at The Warren Tavern. We were impressed by the charm this place had, as it resides in a building with lots of character. Despite it being busy in the bar area, we were seated right away. I started with a clam chowder which was really good, a little thicker than I usually prefer but still good. My Irish burger was also really tasty and their fries were great. My boyfriend enjoyed the fish & chips as well as the french onion soup. Shoutout to our server Cookie who was very friendly and took care of us. Definetely would love to come back here! read more
A 240 year old facility that provided tavern and restaurant services and keeps to the tradition to basic successful standards; great food at a fair price and putting the customer FIRST. The facility is set in an historic colonial that was built in 1780 that highlighted the hand hewn beams and beautiful contraction of the past. The building boasted stained glass, hand painted murals, and an old feel. We came to the Warren Tavern for a Saturday Brunch. The hostess and serving staff were exceptional and 'Cookie' had an amazing personality and presence. I orders the chicken and waffle, the Mrs ordered the French toast plate. Fresh, Fresh, FRESH! The food all came out hot, delicious, and flavorful. Not a taste bud was missed with these sweet and savory plates! Make this a stop on your journey of the freedom trail (near Bunker Hill)! Grab a fresh draft and a warm meal... you won't be disappointed. read more

In Boston for a weekend trip. My 1st time to the city. After making a stop at the USS Constitution we went looking for the Tavern. It was pointed out to us on a trolley tour. Only had a drink there. But glad we did. Something about having a cocktail in an old establishment with history. Amazing. read more
My wife and I visited Boston with a goal of trying as much clam chowder as we could muster. This place, hands down, had the best chowder in the city. The service was incredibly friendly and efficient, despite the pub being packed in the early dinner hours. The bartenders were attentive and personable and you could tell that locals loved coming here. The chowder here was out of this world. The oysters were fresh and had a great taste. If you were to have one bowl of chowder during your visit to Boston, this is the place to go. read more

Sangria was amazing. Old time tavern with small tables and bar stools. Lots of tvs on the walls. I ordered the Clam Chowder it was ok. Also shared a lobster roll that was very good. The pub pretzel appetizer with cheese was delicious. Service was quick n friendly. read more

We popped into the world famous haunted Warren tavern haha! The place was popping! Full of people, the game was on, rain outside, crappy parking situations but if you circle you'll find something. The place has nostalgic charm of taverns from yesteryear. We had friends already hold down a high top table, seats realistically 4, so a couple of us stood around as most other groups also were. It's pretty cozy in there so be patient and expect some bumps here and there from a stranger. Our server was cool, he grabbed our order drinks and brought utensils. Allagash white what i drink nice and light. The lady had coffee something martini, she enjoyed it. Balanced right. We got mostly shareable dishes. Hot Pretzels - hot, soft and was enjoyed Oysters - tonight's was quick easy and good to eat not briney Wings - crispy hot and juicy Clam chowder - i like this consistency more creamy then watery, but would be nice to even have it a bit thicker. Nachos with bbq pork, this was a hit for the table east to chip and rip. Lobster mac, was a bit runny imo but overall enjoyed had plenty of lobster meat protein for the dish. Mussels seem to be a hit? I didn't actually eat that so couldn't give opinion. All in all the tab with drinks came out to about 360 and 50ish bucks a person. Would come back, they seem to have their organization within chaos in the tavern. Thanks! read more
Solid food choice near the USS Constitution and Bunker Hill. We ate here mostly because it was near where we needed to be and we were starving. Everything was good. Nothing outstanding, but tasty enough. They easily handled my request to swap out salmon and add chicken to my sesame salmon bowl. Standard historic tavern atmosphere and decor. read more

Best pub in Boston! I have to rave about the fish and chips - I'm British and these are like home. Excellent service. Other dishes were also great. It's traditional pub ambiance- the best. Will be back! read more

Service was pretty slow on a sunday. Our waitress was cool though. We ordered the nachos and caesar salad. They load up on the salad dressing so be sure that's what you like. As for the nachos, I wouldn't get them again read more
Dating back to 1780, the Warren Tavern located near the Freedom Trail, is as good as it gets in USA for a local historic tavern. Famous visitors included Paul Revere and George Washington. Today, it has lace-curtain windows and low, wood-beamed ceilings that create an intimate vibe. JFK looks down from the attic. Indoor and al fresco dining. Pretty busy when we arrived at 6.00 pm, we ordered the clam chowder and stuffies. Both were good and it was a nice snack to go with our wine. Our Home Exchange house was but a 5 minute walk away so this became our HQ. Our last visit was at midnight and we savoured the Early Grey Old Fashioned. Friendly at midnight with less hustle and bustle. read more
One of the oldest bars in the Americas and named after Major General Doctor Joseph Warren, who died at Bunker Hill. The place is haunted, the history is real, but the chowda and potato skins are food. Friendly bartenders. read more

This place is a cool little piece of history to have a brew and eat. It was a tavern frequently visited by George Washington, Ben Franklin, Paul Revere and of course Joseph Warren. Here is my breakdown: Food: 5/5 The food was really good! I ordered the Plantation Sandwich and it was delicious! My wife also ordered the New England Clam Chowder and it was also delicious! Ambiance: 5/5 Going into this place feels like you take a step back in time. It's so cool, because there are many original parts of the building. We happened to go on a date of significance for the tavern. So, there was a group of men dressed up as if it was the 1700's and they gave a toast to the restaurant and everyone cheered! This was just an awesome little addition to the experience! Price: 5/5 The price was extremely reasonable. My sandwich was huge and it was only 16! But, all the menu entrees ranged from $16-30. Area: 5/5 The area was really cool. We didn't get a chance to explore much after dinner, but there seemed to be many little boutiques and nice park down the street. We parked on the street and it seems like parking could get difficult on a busy weekend. This was a fun, great experience and a must do if you are coming to the Boston area! read more

Warren's is everything you could want out of a pub in Boston. This bar has a long history and has been visited by many iconic revolutionaries including Paul Revere and George Washington. The place is located near the Bunker Hill monument making it a great place to grab lunch or dinner after touring the history in the area. This place does get busy on the weekends so if you're coming in for dinner I would recommend calling to make a reservation. For a pub Warrens goes above expectation for how good their food is. For appetizers I would recommend the steak and cheese egg rolls or the nachos. And none of their main dishes have disappointed me yet with one of my favorites being the swordfish tacos. read more

Does the clam chowder have pork (bacon, etc) in it? Am I able to order the chowder without pork?
Yes, the chowder base starts with bacon as an ingredient. It is not possible to order it without as it forms the base of the chowder early in the cooking process.
I will be traveling with teens (13, 16)...teen friendly or is it like a true tavern with 21+ only?
Kid / teen / family friendly! We brought our son this summer (7 then , 8 now). Other kids / teens were there too.
Does this place play NFL?
I think so ... sport were on the whole time we were there.
