Been coming here for years. For the first time ever they have started charging for chips and salsa. This is a staple of all Mexican restaurants. Part of the fun of eating at a Mexican restaurant is sitting down and a basket of chips being delivered without asking. I understand it is tough to make ends meet in a restaurant, but raise the prices of your meals, don't take away something that has been free forever. Best. Wings. Ever. I know it's a Mexican restaurant, and there are a bunch of authentic dishes I could rave about, but the wings here are so freaking good. Spice level is spot on. Consistently tender. It's just addictive. Do yourself a favor and order them! Everything else I've tried is good too - mole, guac, burrito, shrimp tacos, tamales. Lots of seating. I've frequented to El Potro in Chelsea for their tortilla soup which is always on point. Unfortunately, yesterday we had an incident where my boyfriend either left his wallet in the restaurant or accidentally dropped it in the parking lot. After about 2 hours we returned to the restaurant and was allowed to search for it. William, the on-site manager, got my boyfriends name and number to call regarding obtaining surveillance footage. When we left, the wallet was in the parking lot. It was in a different area from where he has initially parked. Luckily the perpetrator(s) only took the cash and left his license and all his credit/debit cards in the wallet. It was strange though because it didn't look like the wallet was outside on the ground for a long period of time (it wasn't dirty, cold, or wet from the ground). I reported a possible theft. The Corporate Manager, Joe Carreiro responded in a timely fashion and assured us that he is investigating the situation. He even stated that he will have access to Market Basket surveillance to try and pin point who took the cash out of his wallet and said that he would contact us if they see who did it via surveillance. It didn't seem like it, but i'm hoping that it wasn't an employee who did it. At the end of the day, God knows and sees all. My marg cost more than my food (tortilla soup and tamale off the app menu). It was watery and lacked great flavor. I enjoyed the tortilla soup most. The tamale was good. 11-23-22 Staying at the Double Tree in Chelsea for the 3 rd time in a month, we've eaten in the hotel's limited restaurant, ordered Chinese takeout but finally we walked a couple blocks and found this delightful Mexican eatery. The booths and individual chairs are colorfully painted. There's a happy vibe going on with silver intricately carved lighting above the booths plus happily hung banners hanging across the room, Hubs had Combo #3 and I had the Tres Compadres fajitas with steak, shrimp and chicken perfectly seasoned and marinated. I tried one flour tortilla with the chicken but decided to enjoy the flavors more directly. We had seconds of the fresh chips and salsa. The horchata was cold, refreshing with hints of cinnamon teasing my tastebuds. The best for last? Their fried ice cream is decadent like no other. I'd add this to my last meal on earth on Yelp. I told hubs I'd come back here two nights in a row since today is Thanksgiving. Before we left hubs asked and sadly for us they will be closed today. I'm glad we decided to venture out of our hotel. Our waitress Maria was absolutely rude AF!!! Everything was fine until I let the waitress that brought us the check know that we didn't order the $10 guacamole. A few minutes later, out comes Maria with instant attitude (which was surprising) demanding we pay for it and rudely TRYING to explain to us that she asked us if we wanted it in the beginning when we ordered the queso. My wife and I only heard chips and didn't even think about whether we were getting billed for guacamole and salsa that came with the chips and queso that we DID order. There was a huge language barrier and ironically, even as she tried to repeat what she said in the beginning she still could not articulate what occurred and could not say chips and guacamole. She didn't even say "and guac" as she tried to repeat it multiple times. Nothing that even sounded close and then she got angrier saying something along the lines of "but you ate it and didn't say something" with escalating attitude like we should automatically know when it hits the table that we were going to be charged for something we didn't even ask for or even think about. If you go by her logic then why weren't we charged for the chips and salsa? What's crazy is we weren't even bothered about it. It was a $105 bill and we were going to leave a $30 tip. We have zero reason to try to swindle the restaurant for a small bowl of guacamole. Had she politely said what I think she was trying to say everything would have been fine. I would have taken the $10 out of her tip out of PRINCIPLE because its not our fault, which would have left her with $20 and us leaving happy. Instead, her clear and blatant disrespectful attitude escalated a simple communication error and PISSED ME OFF!!!! What further irritates me is after we paid the bill I asked for the manager to explain to him how rude and wrong Maria was and what had occurred... he seemed to think it was about the $10 guacamole and not the garbage hostile attitude Maria had even though the bill was already paid. Otherwise food was pretty good; the rest of the waiting staff and hostess were nice. I live close by so I often will pop in for drinks and apps, dinner, or even take out. Every time I've been has always been superb. The food and drinks are delicious. The staff are always so nice and accommodating as well. There is a parking lot and both indoor and outdoor seating. And the food show up first then the drinks, the waiter never come to check on the food or the drinks, one of the drinks that we had was strong so we wanted to add something else to make it sweeter and we didn't find our waiter so we had to call another waitress . we ended up no drinking the drinks because no one came to check on us and they charged us for the drinks that we didn't drink, we ask for the manager and he wasn't really helpful but came with an attitude and rudeness. read more
