We like the 99 Restaurant chain and have dined at several different locations. This is the closest to our residence and tbh, not the best of the bunch. We often arrive at 'off' meal times and the restaurant is mostly empty which *usually means good service. We sometimes sit at the bar for our meal and have encountered a variety of bartenders. Some are quite good, others are more talkative than functional. When sitting in a booth a hostess will seat you with menus. S/he's usually at the host/ess stand right inside the door. Our waitresses have all been nice and most of them are very good at their job. We've had some very nice meals here and some that were 'meh'. OK, but wouldn't repeat, and sometimes when we do order a dish more than once, something goes wrong and it isn't as good as previously. We've had really good steak, really bad salad and just OK chicken (different visits) so it's been hit or miss for us. There is plenty of parking in their private lot. Restroom and diningroom are clean and well maintained. Casual, family dining with a menu from apps to desserts including entrees, dinner salads and burgers. Full bar, beer on tap, tea and sodas. The vibes are 90's Applebees. The food is, 'let's go out for a casual dinner because I don't want to cook and eat a cookie skillet', level food. The balsamic chicken was very tasty. But as everything else, prices have been inflated. But let's talk about service! Steven E was our server and his managers should be very proud! He is EVERYTHING a server should be. The place was basically empty when we got here. It is gorgeous outside today and the hurricane didn't really hit here this weekend (Sas was predicted. We usually won't eat somewhere with a nearly empty parking lot on a Saturday night but we were starving. The Seafood cakes -we think they were called "Stuffies" - were the appetizer special of the night and I was very Leary of ordering them but I did anyway. They were so good I could have eaten 2 more!! The fish was exactly what I wanted. It is not everyone's preference to have the fish "swimming" in butter but it is mine for this type of fish. Anyway, it was perfectly cooked and hit the spot. We went here based on the sign that said colossal lobster roll. Kinda shocked when price was $29! Okay I could go with that if it was indeed colossal. As you can see... It was not. It was still a very good lobster roll, and there were several half-priced apps offered as well. We tried the stuffies and they were good. Service was good, big bar and quiet. With lobster selling as low as $6.99 a pound, $29 for a small sandwich was way overpriced. read more

My Husband was there watching baseball today with friends at bar . 1 till 4 then ordered us food the bartender totally messed up both are orders were both mad . I ordered surf turf 3 with stuffy steak and 3 baked stuffed shrimp got steak tips no potatoes like I wanted tiny tiny fried shrimp o really was looking forward to my food I ordered err. My husband ordered whole rack of ribs only got half rack. He a big man who can eat he very mad . He paid alot money full price. He said he will never order again to top it off everything He tried to order lady said we don't have it turky dinner then trio frish and shrimp don't have fish chips don't have pot pie don't have she said that to everything. I stopped by here for some hors d'oeuvres and some drinks before I head over to a local show that my friend was playing across the street. The bartender, whose name is suzi was very tentative to our needs, she offered many menu options, as more of our friends showed up she took care of them just as well as she took care of us, the floor manager even came by to make sure everything was OK, that is service at its best, the appetizers were cooked just the way we like them and we are very, very satisfied. my trip to the 99 restaurant was less appealingthen I ever expected for a family restaurant I brought my son in with me and first of all the host was extremely rude and disrespectful, was asking my 1 year old to be quiet and he was interrupting other guests. he's a baby and he probably does less screaming then the football team crowds or teenagers do.. the waiter was very rude and very impatient. the waiter you have working there. Anthony he had ignored my request multiple times for a baby seat and then decided he didnt want to deal with us after we finally got one. he avoided us at every cost! the food was overcooked and my son couldn't even eat it and neither could I. it was soo dry like it had been left under the warming bulbs for awhile. we will NOT be returning back tot hat location as long as Anthony is working there, plus he had VERY poor hygiene and you could clearly smell body odor and sweat off it and he looked like he hadn't showered in days, plus the clothes he wore were very dirty looking I would never expose my child to someone like that in the real world or in a restaurant setting. read more

My husband and I ordered takeout from the 99 because we wanted to try something different. He ordered the chicken tenders and steak tips, and I ordered the chicken tacos with a side salad. The side salad was nowhere to be found, completely forgotten, which is saying a lot seeing as there were only three things in the order. Let me start by saying that I don't understand the bad reviews that have been posted. I was in Cranston for business and was on my way back when I noticed this restaurant. I've seen 99 Restaurants in other areas of the country but none on Long Island and every time I see one I think "I have to try them one day". Well today was my day. So I walk in and stood at the hostess station for a few minutes with no one manning it. After a good 3-4 minutes I was thinking of leaving., but I'm still working on my lack of patience so I hung in there. Finally I'm seated and my waitress shows up immediately. A very pleasant and professional young lady. I put in my drink order and meal and ask if it could be rushed because I have a meeting in Bridgeport, Ct later and need to hurry. Most times a waitress will say sure but it's usually just lip service because they can't control the kitchen. In this case my meal was on the table in a just a few minutes. Sirloin Tips in mushroom sauce. Food was on point, and my waiter prepared my bill while I was eating. Finished my lunch paid the bill and was on my way. Went for a late night snack and beer and found specials from 8pm till closing. They serve food until 11 at the bar and this fried cheese was just enough. It was miles ahead of the last meal I had there. The beer was nice and cold and the service was excellent. Going to a restaurant like this can be simple and fun. Our server Steven was attentive and knowledgeable. The Haddock was delicious and my daughters pasta was good. The onion soup was also delicious. One issue is why can't you serve caesar salad at night ? The waiter even asked the chef and he said no. But no reason was given. Makes no sense and that the only salad I wanted. Three stars only because the service was great- from the host to the server they were very attentive. We had three kids meals of chicken tenders- no complaints from the little ones. However, my honey mustard chicken salad was really, really bad. The kids meals had double the amount of chicken than my salad, for starters. I had three small pieces of chicken. Two onions. Wow! What a wonderful dining experience!! From the moment we approached the front door until the moment we walked back out it was a wonderful experience! The greeting at the door was friendly,warm and welcoming. The host opened the door for us, made sure he knew how many were in the party and made it feel like we belonged there.The waitress was friendly, made eye contact and paid attention. She took our drink order, allowed time for food choices to be made. She didn't make us feel rushed into a decision . She checked back throughout the meal and made sure it was not mid mouthfuls!! I haven't been to a 99 in over 10 years , so my mom and I decided to check it out. It has its own parking lot and it's wicked close to warwick mall. We were greeted immediately by a young man who was very nice. And our waitress was extremely nice as well ( I didn't get names this time I was too hungry ). Any-who we were showed the new menus and specials and everything in between. They have these 9.99 meals and boy that's what drove us in here, they have so many selections for only 9.99 and they're full meals and the range of what they had was great. My mother ordered fried shrimp and I got some sort of steak thanksgiving dinner meal, we both very much enjoyed our meals here. For the price who wouldn't want to do that. My mom also got the house margarita and it was as big as her head and for such a cheap price as well. This visit was for lunch with the family. We all had chicken plates but in different styles. My son & I had the new spicy chicken sandwich. The sandwich wasn't spicy at all but it was juicy.I told our server that the sandwich wasn't spicy at all. She told the kitchen and that's about it. We were both looking for a spicy sandwich. Myself and my boyfriend went to the Cranston location on Saturday March 2. When we got there we were greeted by a tall man who seated us in the section where the music was too loud, speakers were everywhere in this small room, one other table was occupied. We got up and went back to hostess podium, no one was there. We stood and waited for the hostess to come back, he was nowhere to be seen, so we went to a different section. When we saw the man again, we called him over and told him we moved and told him why. He was disgruntled and walked away saying, "It's loud here, too". It wasn't. We saw a waitress, we told here what happened. She said, "I know, it's not loud." She proceeded to go get us menus as we asked for them. The tall man came back and said, "Here folks, you should have brought your menus with you." Then walked away. He wasn't that pleasant. I can reassure, i was in the food business for 30+ years , I understand, if they were shorted handed, but really. We ordered our food. i ordered baked haddock and my boyfriend ordered steak tips (the reason why we went there, and chicken fingers. We got our food brought out by the tall man. We were happy, it looked great, we were hungry. It was about 2-2:30 o'clock. We got there right around 1:30. .The meals were picture perfect. we have both had great meals at any of the locations in the past. I tasted my mashed potatoes, they were cold. I tried the haddock , it was so spoiled it tasted like the way ammonia would taste if you dare.... I thought, nah! so my partner tried it. You betcha it was spoiled. We waited for the waitress to come by but to our dismay she was busy as my dish sat on the edge of the table. When she did come by and asked if everything was "OK" we both said no the fish was spoiled. She immediately said she would get the manager. As she went to find him/her we walked out. They no longer have any pasta dishes so my favorite chicken parmesan is no longer available. Unfortunately their other chicken dishes don't seem quite as good. We tried this place for the first time and had a great time. We went in for the Sunday football specials and enjoyed every minute of the visit. The bartender was super friendly and very funny. We appreciated the apps specials. The other patrons made the evening with lots of visiting and entertaining. There is 1 particular server I like, I believe her name Hailey or Haley, I'm not positive on the spelling, but she always is smiling and is an amazing waitress. The atmosphere was typical of any chain restaurant. Just average. The waitress was spot on and handled our table of 7 with ease. Just a few things, though. I ordered the baked haddock. There was a very thin, long bone in the fish that I didn't notice until it wound up in my mouth. Not cool, but it was fish and that can happen sometimes. The bread crumb topping was burnt and flavorless. Literally no flavor on this entree. I'm diabetic and didn't really want potatoes or rice, and their broccoli is literally just run of the mill, unseasoned, more than likely frozen and microwaved broccoli. None of the sides are diabetic friendly, or appetizing. So, I was hoping to be able to substitute one of the two sides with a cup of their French onion soup which is phenomenal and was told they didn't make substitutions, and that I would have to pay close to $8 for a bowl as an appetizer. Not cool. I didn't opt for that. I instead opted for just one side of coleslaw. They gave me two, which I would never eat two, so one undoubtedly needlessly was wasted. The coleslaw was also extremely flavorless and soupy/runny. I come here a lot and my fiancé usually gets a burger plate that he is very happy with. I usually never get an entree, I usually just get onion soup and my friends get the wings, which they're happy with. However, last night I decided to give an entree a shot. I found out that that probably isn't a good idea if you're on any kind of restrictions. You will wind up paying for stuff you won't eat or can't eat, and they "can't" make any exceptions apparently. Fantastic restaurant with great food, drinks, and an atmosphere for a chill meal. I recommend anything on the menu. The best bets are the gold fever chicken tenders. Fish tacos, steak tips, various burgers (cooked medium), wheat turkey club sandwich, various salads, and pretty much everything else on the menu. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The wait was not bad at all, 10 minutes tops for a Saturday evening. The waitress, Jess, was extremely helpful and nice. They offer popcorn instead of bread snack on. The popcorn was cold and stale, lucky for them, I really like stale popcorn. Weird, I know, just something I picked up as a kid. We tried the buffalo chicken & loaded potato skins appetizer, which was pretty good. Those are probably my favorite potato skins now. It was a decent start to a place I have never been to before. The entree wasn't that good. I orderd a 6oz sirloin over mushrooms with grilled asparagus and a side salad. I had ordered the steak medium, but what I received was a well done steak that was burnt. Me and a buddy of mine went there last night. I have been here a few times, and this is my first review. The reason I come here is because they have one entree I really enjoy and always order it, that is the Grilled Angus Chopped Sirloin. It is made over a bed of mashed potatoes and red wine sauce, for my side I had broccoli We started off with the Baked Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms as an appetizer. I found it be tasteless, it needed to be better seasoned. Over all the customer service was excellent we had Lacey as a waitress and did a great job. Steak tip salad is the bomb! But you have to ask for it!!! Another of my favorite stops while in Rhode Island. We arrived at 12:30 for lunch and were seated immediately. Our waitress was very nice and efficient. Check brought to us while we were still eating, I guess in case we needed to make a fast getaway. I'm sure they are used to working folk coming in for lunch, and since my daughter-in-law was in her army uniform, we were probably treated a bit better than most. I usually have the steak tip salad, but I wasn't very hungry today so got their Caprese Flatbread appetizer. Loved it. It has tons of mozzarella cheese, fresh slices of tomato, bits of basil and was drizzled with a balsamic syrup. The flatbread was crisp and cooked perfectly. So why 4 stars instead of 5? They sell Pepsi products, a huge no no for me. So I got unsweetened iced tea and it was tasteless. Prices are about the same as any other restaurant like this (Applebee's, Chili's) but they don't put steak tips on your salad. But, remember, this salad is no longer on the menu, but if you ask for it, they will make it for you. Give this place a try, you won't be sorry...and if you can do it, their desserts are wonderful, especially their strawberry shortcake!! read more

So the food, isn't anything to write home about. Chain fare, burgers are actually surprisingly good, fries are always crisp and a little crunchier than other places, turkey tips haven't disappointed. My parents frequent the 99 for one reason and one reason alone: a dedicated gluten free grill and prep area. They are one of the first chains to do this, and that has kept my parents patronage even as some items such as the fries have had to be rotated off of the gluten free menu due to changes in recipes and supplies. Everyone who works here is super accommodating of my stepfather's severe Celiac disease. In fact they seem to be quite vigilant with anyone that requests the gluten free menu. The manager typically will stop by and ensure the order was brought out correctly, etc. The servers all know my parents and they will do thinks like ring in the meals as 3 course if they can cobble it together, or figure out how to get you a bit of a deal while dining. read more

Anyway, had the Crispy Chicken Salad and the wife had a Soup & Salad. My salad was really big and filling. It was what I remember Chili's salads used to be like back in the day, before they took the fast lane to crapsville. The only issue is you will need to ask for additional dressing. I can appreciate that places are trying to control costs, but sending out a big salad with about 4 tablespoons of dressing is kind of stupid, just saying. The wife liked her soup and salad as well.
