Dinner at 39 West was delightful and we look forward to trying a number of other entrees. The lovely ambiance with crisp white tablecloths was so welcoming. The waitstaff is extremely friendly and kind. Our waitress, Ashley was phenomenal in every aspect - patience, knowledge of the cuisine, and friendliness. First courses consisted of escarole chicken soup which was loaded with vegetables in a broth that was perfect. Other guests at our table raved as they esavored the wedge salad - large portions and so tasty. We each loved our main courses, Chicken Parm with pasta, Chicken Francaise with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and Chicken Sorrentino. What a wonderful restaurant, is that a good introduction? How about you're missing out on a nice hidden gem buried within the Italian restaurant bedrocks in Cranston/Johnston? I walk frequently in the area and often passed this establishment on my journey but has not popped in. During one of my walks, I bumped in to, almost literally, Ashley, who is a bartender/server at 39 West, and she said "I think you're coming in here" now I wasn't, but her enthusiasm alone was contagious enough for me to pop in at the end of my walk, glad I did. The ambiance is inviting, many tables litter the area in front of two decent sized u shaped bars. One of the bars appears to be open on busy weekend nights only, but you want the main bar and you want Ashley as your bartender! She's addictive, be warned! Personable, knowledgeable, efficient and just a nice person you want to see do well. The bar is certainly not short of wonderfully crafted seasonal cocktails that Ashley will love to inform you about, or just indulge in a cold beer or classic wine. The food? Of course, that's the guts of any review, right? And this spot hits the mark! I started with Scallops wrapped in bacon, cooked nicely! Crisp bacon wrapped around a nicely cooked scallop and I gobbled them up. The entrees, Veal Parmigiana with Penne that will go head to head with at the local big boy spots and give them a run. Sauce is wonderful, inviting you in to a deliciously prepared Veal Cutlet covered with lovely mozzarella and nicely prepared penne, absolutely recommend. The wife had the bolognese, she loves bolognese, another favorite local spot, I won't name it, but it's her favorite, well, this was close! It says a lot! She couldn't stop raving about it. The food was fantastic. The atmosphere wasn't too quiet and not too noisy. The service was attentive without being intrusive. We had stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer. Wow! I guess they are a special. I think they might find a spot on the permanent menu. Dinner was rigatoni bolognese and lobster ravioli. Both were excellent. In 2021 I had a bridal shower for my oldest daughter, in 2022 a bridal shower for my youngest daughter and just this past weekend had a double baby shower for both girls. Came here for the first time to meet friends on a Thursday night around 5:30-6:00 pm. It wasn't busy, and the hostess and server couldn't be more attentive or nice. Water glasses and drinks were filled quickly - always a plus! The menu is varied, and include specials, so there are many dishes to choose from. Since we were on a Thursday, we were offered the Early Bird menu and the Dinner menu. ( Early Bird Specials - $12 & $14 meals, Tues-Thur all night, and Fri - Sat 4pm-7pm. (they are closed Sunday). We all had drinks to start ; the wine list was pretty good and a good pour for the price. Other cocktails were Sangria (friend LOVED it) and some special martini. Everyone was happy with the drinks. We ordered and 3 out of the 5 people had the scallops. All were very pleased with their dinner. (Pan Seared Sea Scallops $19 - Served over a spinach, olive, & roasted red pepper risotto) Me and the other person ordered the veal parmesan. (Parmesan - Veal $18 - Served over pasta). It was a large portion and pretty good. It' s hard to find a good chicken parmesan at a decent price so I was happy with my meal. We were all too full for dessert, and by the time we left the place was almost full and getting louder and louder. The bar is always packed after 7 pm per my friends and they offer dancing as well. Came here based off the good reviews and great "Early Bird" specials. They have several $10 and $12 dinner specials weekly, so it was worth checking out. Got there at 6pm and the parking lot was packed! For so many storefronts in one strip, there is not nearly enough parking. Once we got in, we were amazed at how busy the place was on a Wednesday night. Nearly 80% of the restaurant was occupied - not a bad sign, I suppose - but it was extremely loud due to the high occupancy and several birthday celebrations. Our high top was a bit wobbly and without us even saying anything, one of our waiters immediately fixed the problem - the service continued to be topnotch after this. We started off with the 39 West calamari. The bread and oil were delicious - nice, warm and toasty and I had the pepper infused oil - nice little kick. The calamari was very tasty - crispy little rings of goodness topped with chopped tomatoes, olives, pepper rings and a balsamic reduction. We both had side salads - which were excellent. The salads had red beans and chickpeas in them (def something that makes it stand out from the plain jane salads you typically get) and all dressings are house made - I had the honey mustard and my gf had the balsamic. I ordered the stuffed pork loin with potato and veg and my gf ordered the baked scallops with a side of penne. My pork loin and sauce it came in was good but the spinach was awfully bitter. My gf was just ok with her scallops but enjoyed the penne with sauce. I was a bit disappointed with dinner as I had such high hopes with our appetizer round being so successful. All of the waitstaff were wonderful, from our waitress to the busboy to the front of house who made it a point to check in on us several times. This definitely shows they care about their patrons.I wouldn't mind coming back to try other options on the menu as the prices can't be beat. read more

Always thought of this place as a lounge more than a restaurant, but with the new owners that has changed! The ambiance, food, and service were all A+. We came in on a Thursday. It wasn't busy to our surprise. Try the stuffed zucchini, it was so good! We had a special available that night with a teriyaki chicken served in a halfed pineapple with veggies and chicken. Went here this past weekend for a birthday dinner and to watch the brother to brother band. It was small when we walked in but was very inviting. The drinks were great, reasonable prices for the amount of alcohol they give. Food was amazing although my bf said the filet was a little over cooked and didn't have much flavor. The bread and oil dipping was perfect to keep us tied over before the food was served. The waitress was very friendly but she moved quick, we wanted to ask her something but she would walk away so quickly. The buss boys were great but need to give people a little more time before trying to clear tables. They package your food for u which is a bonus. I like that there were fabric table clothes. Recently had dinner here with my husband and my parents. We all enjoyed our meals as well as the appetizers and you honestly couldn't beat the price! Unbeknownst to us, they offer early bird specials for almost everything on their regular menu. I had the Chicken Vincenzo which was served over a huge portion of pasta. The dish was light in flavor and very fresh, I enjoyed it. Chicken Parm special (with sausage and peppers, I believe), Salmon special with grilled veggies and Surf and Turf were the dishes the rest of my party had. Our waitress was excellent; she was friendly and super attentive. She even accomodated a special request with one of our dishes. The only negative I found was the sound in the restaurant. At one point half of the tables were full and it sounded like the lace was at max capacity. Apparently they have early bird specials for $10 and $12 entrees until 6pm for dinner and we just made the cut! My friend got a house white wine and I stuck to water! For my entree I got the chicken Marsala which was off the special menu but instead of pasta I got a side of the fresh daily veggie and a sweet potato to keep it on the healthier side! Came for dinner with friends on a Thursday night. Surprisingly, it wasn't busy, especially considering that it was Christmas week. They had numerous specials in addition to their regular menu, and we all ordered specials. One had the salmon, which looked amazing. Two others had Chicken specials, and I had pasta with littlenecks. We all received large portions and loved our food. The service was absolutely amazing, extremely attentive, friendly, and fun. We ordered dessert also, which we shared. Caesar salad was straight out of a Ready-Pac bag. Pasta was of the Stouffer's freezer aisle quality. 2. "Very reasonable prices." WHHAAATT x2. At $10 for a caesar salad, I expect more quality than what I could get at McDonalds. I didn't get that. At $15-20 a plate for entrees, I expect more quality than I can get at the Olive Garden. I true hidden gem in Cranston, Rhode Island. Keep in mind, I hardly give out (5) stars. A few of my colleagues and I would swing by for happy hour at 39 West. They really don't have a set time for happy hour; we just like to call it that. Rob the bartender is simply AWESOME! He is both personable and friendly. The food and bar service is the best in Rhode Island. Rob will make his own creation of drinks both packing a punch yet sweet to the tease. The food is incredible, fresh and always cooks to perfection. I had the lobster ravioli, flat bread pizza and calamari. The décor is simply well put together. Very elegant and top notch for the amount you're spending. The best part about this wonderful restaurant, it's not expensive. I recommend anyone and everyone to come to 39 West! Came here for an anniversary party, they have a nice bar layout but the rest of the restaurant is just long tables and some smaller ones, I would find out later why this is. The food was ok, pasta was cooked well, the baked scrod was really bland, as much lemon as I squeezed on it, didn't make much of a difference. Now comes the strange part, they have a band that starts playing old music in the front of the restaurant, people start dancing, now we are like awkwardly in the way. Then they take some tables off the floor to make more room so you are almost forced to leave the restaurant or dance bc they want your table gone. The place gets really busy, I think this is like one of those places that people who are 50+ go when they are single to meet people. Assuming I was just too young for this restaurant, so if you are looking to dance to old music and hook up, this might be your spot! read more

Ordered Togo Wednesday night, food was good but we were missing a order and all of our sides. Salmon was sub pair, and we did not receive any sides with 2 salmon orders. The veal was great! Cooked perfectly. Calamari was great!! The chicken picatta was forgotten, after driving to pick it up, there was no sides included for the chicken picatta. We also requested our sides for the salmon when going to pick up the picatta and received 2 mash potatoes no veggies. Disappointed. Our order was repeated back to us correctly but it was not bagged correctly. It was a very painful process. I had never been here when it used to be the West End Cafe, but I had heard great things about the food here. I recently visited 39 West for a going away party, which mostly consisted of drinks and appetizers, and I must say that although the event was not really food-centric, I remember the pizzas quite fondly. They were cold by the time I got my hands on a couple pieces, but they were really delicious and I can only imagine how much better they'd be piping hot! The drinks were also very reasonably priced, and there was live music, which apparently goes on every night, so that's definitely a draw if you want your dinner with a side of live entertainment. I'd hit this place up again, and maybe try to eat an actual meal here sometime. read more

OUTSTANDING!!!! I read a review in the Providence Journal that sounded too good to be true! Well, 39 West did not disappoint! The Calamari appetizer with a balsamic dressing with olives, tomatoes and hot peppers was off the charts. The Seared Scollops entree was excellent and my wife's Salmon dinner was one of the most colorful, beautifully plated meals I have ever seen. Paired with a great Chardonnay it was perfect dinner. The atmosphere and bar were really nice and the waitress super friendly and helpful. My only regret was we left no room for dessert (which looked great!)...and I wish we could have stayed for the live music. That's OK! We'll definitely go back soon! read more

Wednesday - Girls Night Out Dinner at 39 West. I was unsure about ordering the Buffalo Chicken Soup special, but our server swayed me when he brought a little mini-sample to the table. Sold! It wasn't creamy and unhealthy looking like I assumed. It was DELICIOUS. If my review was based on this alone, I would have given 39 West five stars. For the entree, I ordered the Pan Seared Sea Scallops with a white wine butter sauce served with Italian Cous Cous. I was really disappointed. The scallops had practically no flavor and the Italian cous cous tasted like uncooked pasta. Now, I may have been able to preoccupy myself with gossiping over who posted what on Facebook, but I couldn't hear my friends, never mind myself. On Wednesday nights, starting at 7pm, a live jazz ensemble performs at 39 West. The musical instruments and 1920s crooning were lovely, but LOUD. I wanted to catch up with my girlfriends, not yell over them. The service was top notch. Thanks to John for a wonderful experience. The wife and I went here tonight and it was fantastic. We started with salads, I got the Ceaser Salad and my wife got the Caprese Salad. They were both Delicious. For our entrees I got the Roasted Garlic and Spinach Ravioli and she got the Lobster Ravioli . The Roasted Garlic and Spinach Ravioli was amazing, it had andouille sausage, mushrooms and spinach mixed into the sauce and it was just delicious. So I went to this restaurant twice in one week and had two completely different experiences! Let me start off by saying the food is amazing! Everything tastes super homemade and fresh! It's amazing! First experience was Wednesday 4/13 - it was my birthday and my mom brought me for the specials they have. I got the chicken francaise and my mom got the sirloin. So amazing! The mashed potatoes are so yummy that I want them all of the time! Our server was awesome. Very informative and made sure to bring me a candle in my tres leches cake (so good!) he was so nice and made me want to go back. Second experience was Saturday 4/16 - I went for the band night. I met my family there and had them order food. They ordered me the sirloin with mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad (instead of vegetables) but instead I received a NY Strip with and added on salad. Needless to say it was more expensive. I didn't realize until I had received my check and too late to change it since the kitchen was closed when I got there and my food was all in Togo containers. Our server seemed very overwhelmed by how busy it was so I didn't want to add to the problem. We did not have the same server this time. However, I had a great time during the bands performance! I will say that I will definitely return because the food was great and will definitely be requesting the first server we had because that seems to be the key to getting a good experience. read more

08/21/20 This was not the 39 West had been to last year. Found out it was under new ownership which explained all the differences from my previous visits. The new owner suggested he was going for a Miami vibe but I just didn't get it. The female staff were dressed in ripped jeans, see through leggings and way too much boob and skin showing to come across as an upscale dining spot. Service started out ok but quickly went downhill even though the place wasn't busy. The food was okay with the highlight being the calamari. Veal, chicken parm and chicken picatta just meh. Wasn't terrible, just nothing I need to go back for. By the end of our dining experience, we were so frustrated because we had to ask one of the young kids bussing tables to get our check and then had to flag the owner to get our waiter to bring it back with our cards. read more

I went to this place because I got a living social coupon. I was very excited because the reviews I read here. When I walked in, I was greeted by the hostess asking if we have reservation. Kinda weird when 3/4 of the place was empty, at 8:00PM Friday night. We were seated at a wobbly table next to the door. Its only 20 degree outside, so that wasn't that great of an experience. It took the waiter 10 minutes after seating before asking us our drinks. and almost another 10 before taking our meal order. And another 15 before our dinner came out. 35 minutes before getting our meal is a bit long when the place is only a quarter full. So I wasn't very happy with the service. I ordered the 39 West special, which is a drink for two. It came out on a bowl the size of a normal scorpion bowl from a Chinese restaurant. But it was 90% filled with ice, and probably 3/4 of the remain room filled with drink mix. The amount of alcohol in the drink was so little I felt like I drank a bowl of Kool-aid. For food I had the chicken parm. The piece of Chicken felt rubbery, felt like it came from a pre-pack of Prude chicken you get from stop and shop. The portion is large, but the quality definitely isn't there. My fiance has similar feeling about the place. read more
