I eat at the 99 often. What love most is that they serve mostly traditional comfort food in a casual setting. My favorite meal is the Backyard BBQ combo. Today I was really craving my favorite meal so I stopped by the 99 in Lynnfield. It's a cold rainy day and nothing sounded better than the Backyard BBQ combo. When I was seated I was informed the menu had changed. This was a little disappointing because I feel like they just revamped their menu not too long ago. I used to love Applebee's but they changed their menu so often if I didn't stop by for a few months I hardly recognized the food. That's so annoying. To my horror I'm looking through the menu and I notice my Backyard BBQ combo is gone! The server confirmed it and I nearly walked out. My server went out of her way to see if they can still prepare the meal for me. She came back and told me the manager was going to let me try a similar meal and it was on the house since I came in expecting the combo. I was blown away by their gesture. The customer service here has always been terrific and they went above and beyond this time around. I'm going to try this and see if I like it. I just hope they don't keep trying to reinvent the wheel. Keep it simple. That's what most people love about the 99. read more

99 is for 99 percent ambivalent about eating here. Best to do this in a narrative: I haven't been to 99's in years and had only been to the one in The Woo. The menu was pretty big -not mega like Chili's but decent. The first things I noticed were the haphazard table "setting" and DIRTY floors -like HUGE patches of black crud and detritus all over the place. I wanted to try the ribs and chicken tender combo plate. GF asked about steamed veggies. The waitress said, "We don't have steamed veggies until tomorrow... I mean we HAVE them but not today because we got a shipment of veggies today but they were all brown." Whoa. I then asked how the ribs are. She said, "I would not recommend them. A lot of people complain about them." Whoa. I asked about the fish tacos and she said that they are really good. So I got 'em and GF got the turkey tips. The tacos were good -not Baja material, of course, but yumskis in there own way. They were crispy and the lime-cilantro rice was hot (mostly likely due to nuking) but the gwauk was becoming brownish but was passable. The tacos were $9.99 -a good deal and you get three beefy-sized ones. GF's T-tips were good and had a sweet-sauce biscuit with baby carrots and slaw. GF asked for extras limes for her diet pop, and I asked for more napkins. The waitress bought the limes but never brought the nappies. If you need food on the go, 99's is OK. Just don't expect Caviar Russe NYC. Expect a blue-collar meal. Bon appetite, YELPers. read more

We went to the Lynnfield 99 yesterday after golf for a cold beer and a bite to eat. We got there and were told to go inside to register for contact tracing before sitting outside. No problem, good idea. We went outside where some tables and a few umbrellas were set up in the parking lot. All the tables were covered with pine needles and the vast majority of chairs contained puddles from overnight rain. Clearly no effort had been made to clear the tables or dry the chairs. We sat and waited for our waiter. Now keep in mind this place was not overwhelmed with customers! Fifteen minutes later he sauntered over and took our beer order. No mention of food and he sauntered off. I'm serious, we're talking super slo mo here. We discussed leaving but decided to see how this played out. After another ten minutes I was angry and went in the restaurant to see what the hold up was. There was no one at the check in location so I went to the bar. Our waiter was in the back by the kitchen flirting with the waitresses. When I asked him where our drinks were he moved towards the bar and I asked him to speed it up. Another 5 minutes and he came out with our drinks and told me the delay was with the bar tender and not to blame him! Anyway, we asked for check and he asked why we weren't having another drink or food. We explained that was our original intent but we no longer had the time. So really two problems here. The lazy, incompetent waiter and the fact that no effort was made by management to ensure a proper outside sitting area was available. Times are tough folks but treating customers this way is not very smart business. read more

Ordered a soda. It was flat so I told the waitress. She brought another one over. It was flat too. She said they remove the ice from the bins downstairs at night so it was causing the flat soda. Why start cleaning up? It was 10:30 pm. Ordered a margerita. It was not good. Wayyy too sour and I looked at the bartender and he was staring at me when i took a sip and couldnt help but make a face... the music was ridiculously loud and as we waited for our waitress to return from whatever she was doing finally other waitresses gathered by our table to talk and watch the tv. The blue shirt girl was singing along. Its like who does this song? Lets keep it that way. The food was good. So all in all. Bad atmosphere. Bad service. Bad drinks. But good cook. I've been a number of times to this 99. Its a great place to go to grab a quick bite to eat and has a pretty good bar too.

I ordered take out, after 10 minutes if trying to place order because employees don't know own menu. Picked up food and charged me fir some one else's order. I got home one of the meals was wrong. The other meal ( steak tips) several of them raw. Called and spoke to manager(Ross) he apologized and offered to send me a gift card for all the problems. That is great, however he never did! I will not be returning to the 99 anymore, poor customer service! read more

The food is good as it is at all 99's, the service is friendly and quick, but the music they play is intrusive and so loud that the fillings in my teeth were rattling. The staff is young, and they apparently enjoy the dissonant notes of today's music, but when we were there for lunch yesterday the restaurant was 1/3 full and 99% of the customer heads were grey. The couple across from us first complained about the music, then we added our distaste too, and finally a third couple joined us. It seems almost every casual restaurant in the area has the same problem these days. I'm going to start eating at home more. I also wish restaurants in general would drop the gigantic menus with the pictures. I know what a burger looks like: I don't need an 8X10 glossy. The menus at the 99 are so huge that two people sitting across from each other cannot both open the menus at the same time. read more

I ordered a chicken kabob salad and the chicken was raw. How hard is it to cook cubes of chicken? Luckily I cut into it instead of putting the whole piece in my mouth. I told the waitress about it and she brought it back. It looks like they just took the meat and cook it again then throw it back on the salad. I lost my appetite after this since I know that the salad was probably contaminated with the raw meat. I figure they would make a new one to avoid contamination but they didn't. We actually went there for dinner. We had a couple of menu items off the $9.99 menu and they were real tasty. We ordered the sirloin steak with mashed potatoes and corn, and cajun shrimp dish. For what it is, this place is pretty decent. It's essentially a Chili's/TGI Fridays/etc, but they have a massive menu and some pretty interesting items. I thought the popcorn was a cool touch while you're waiting for your food but is it a northern thing not to ever offer refills? Because none were offered, but that seemed to be how things are everywhere up here so I'm ignoring it. I got the seafood trio casserole thing and it wasn't what I was expecting, but it was pretty good (good sides too!). I wish I had tried the steakwich thing though, it looked good. Service from the bar tender (at the bar tables) was great. However, hostess was sloppy, a bit unfriendly, and disorganized. Many empty tables went uncleaned as she gave people 10-15 minute waiting times. Countless parties got frustrated and gave up after waiting. Gave me buffalo wings instead of gold fever... which I wasn't gonna b*tch about it until I noticed they only filled up 1/3 of the container for the blue cheese dipping sauce. Like seriously guys... I love going to the 99 for a really good burger but the last two times I have gone the burgers were awful. I love burgers and the 99 had the best one for years but after these last two visits to the 99 in Lynnfield I will not be ordering that again. The service is always great and I will go back but very sad that my burger meat has changed. :( read more

Overall I like this place and have been going there for over 40 years but have had 2 bad experiences in a row ordering to go and it was the same meal, chicken pot pie. It used to be awesome with lots of flavor and gravy. You can see for yourself the menu says it comes with mashed potatoes. When I ordered the person said it comes with mashed, what do I want for a side? I ordered squash. When I got home I got the squash but no mashed. I called to complain and was told it comes with one side and the mashed is the one side unless I get something else. That is not what I was told on the phone. The last time I got the same meal someone there decided to give me rice instead of potatoes. It would be different if I was dining there but when I drive 20 + minutes round trip, change into pj's and open the package only to find out they got it wrong it is infuriating. Their offer to give me the mashed requires me to do another round trip. The other thing is the pie wasn't as good as it used to be, the gravy wasn't thick and there wasn't much of it. I have both gone to and ordered take out from this 99 on many occasions. The last two times I've ordered take out haven't been great. Tonight I order a burger that should have been cooked medium well. Mine was way rare. The fries that came with it tasted freezer burnt and they were soggy. Of the few 99's that we have been to we like the Lynnfield 99 the best. The food is consistently good for the price. Beer and wine great, not too sure about the drinks. A little stingy with the liquor so we don't bother having one of those. The bartender Rich is so attentive that he can almost anticipate when we are going to order. He is the best but we have to give a shout out to Lisa who is also a great bartender. Everyone up there is so friendly and nice and getting a bowl of unlimited popcorn is a nice touch. We went last night when the snow was just easing up! I'm so grateful they were open and the kids eat free was a HUGE Bonus! I was astonished at the wonderful customer service I received recently. There was a minor issue with a forgotten condiment and some internal spillage to my to-go order, so I complained to Gordon the manager, and he immediately rectified the situation over the phone. My husband, children and I enjoy going to the 99, especially the one in Lynnfield, which we have been going to for years. Tonight's dinner was a different experience. The waitress spilled an entire glass of water all over my son's lap. She apologized and we accepted her apology because accidents happen. My son unhappily sat and ate his dinner in soaking wet pants and we were not offered any type of compensation such as a free app or dessert for my son's inconvenience. The waitress even made it a point to tell us we could upgrade a kid's dessert for $1.29 more. I thought this was in very poor taste. I had one of the worst experiences here with one of the waiters. My boyfriend and I ordered drinks and the waiter asked us if they were fake IDs very rudely. My boyfriend turned 21 in April and I turned 21 in June and I thought that was an incredibly rude thing to say, especially when my other friend who wasn't 21 ordered a soda. We were all doing what we were supposed to be doing. She would make rude comments and act like she didn't care about us. She should be fired for her incredibly rude behavior. Came to this 99 recently for dinner and was NOT disappointed. The food was so good. I got the boneless wings and skins sampler, they have AMAZING potato skins. Also got the seafood chowder and that was good, and I'm very picky with chowders. My friend that was with me got the Tips and tenders and I Stole a bite of the steak tips and it was perfect. But what completed the whole experience was my server. I think her name was Mia? She had awesome purple hair. But she was so friendly and attentive to me and my friends needs wether it was refilling my drinks or making sure the food was good. She actually recommended the wings and skins. I've been to other 99s and the food is always generally the same but I haven't had as sweet of a server than her at any 99 I have been to. read more

I tool my mother and wife out for lunch here earlier this weekend. My wife ordered a hamburger. When the burger arrived, she took a bite and it was raw in the middle. Of course we sent it back. Several minutes later here comes the original hamburger back to the table with the bite out of it. If I could give them NO stars I would. The bartender, Bryan, was the rudest person that has ever served me. He ignored me and preferred his REGULAR customers. Then he leaned over to talk to a regular customer, put his back toward me and ignored me. When I complained it was a waste of time. No one seemed to care that I was an UNSATISFIED customer. Food was the usual 99 chain restaurant food. Buffalo wings are incredible, they are what got me interested in buffalo wings in the first place. Now the problem: when I got take out, they freakin' CHARGE YOU EXTRA!!! Oh, you want to get it delivered to your car? They add a charge to you for takeout packaging!!! THEY CHARGE YOU FOR THE STYROFOAM BOX!!! That is one of the stupidest charges a restaurant can ever make. They certainly won't let you bring your own dishes in to serve you on, so they have a takeout charge. If you dine in and don't finish your meal but want to take it home, they don't charge you, but god forbid you call up, order a to-go meal, they charge you. It's a miniscule charge, that's not the point. It's pennies. The point is they penalize you for getting your meal to go! Now, they don't even give you an itemized bill to show you this ridiculous charge, you have to fight to get one. To the 99 owner, how dare you nickle and dime your customers. For shame. You fail at business ethics and being honest with your customers. read more

ate lunch here recently - the food was just ok - but the bartender "Bryan" was what ruined the experience - he was non-existent at times and rude to the older couple sitting next to me several times the woman ordered a martini - and she commented that it was half full - Bryan corrected her that - this was how it was supposed to be when she went to say something else - he said - that's why it's a $7 martini - not an $ 11 martini --- and walked away mumbling under his breath - he came back to ask if the couple was done staring at the menu....... I never write these reviews - but this is the third time that I have had Bryan as a bartender and each time was worse than the previous - he basically doesn't wait on you unless you are a regular or want to talk about how many days he skied this year........ I never write management directly - but I am considering it - as this guy just doesn't get the idea that he works for tips - and no clue on customer service - insulting elderly customers is rude and unacceptable and no way to do business........ read more
