I love this place for their authentic food. Everything is delicious and super affordable. I love ordering a Bahn Mi for a quick and cheap meal. I've been calling in to order over the phone and they always give me a 15-20 minute wait time, usually how long it takes me to get there from home. When I get there my food is either already waiting for me or they're finishing it off. There's always people eating in there, now with COVID, they have less seating available. So this place has always been my favorite pho restaurant here in Reno and I have always comed here for Pho even back when they were in their old location. This was the first time I have ever had terrible customer service from this place. Came here back here un Jan 18th, 2025 and its a busy lunch day, I get that. I put my name and phone number on the waiting list paper and since there is are so many people waiting by the door and outside, me and my boyfriend decide to wait in the car. We wait for like 10 minutes and we get no text message or phone call so we go inside to check on the list. I find that my name has been crossed out and I ask the hostess why they crossed our name out when they havent called us. She starts giving me attitude and says that she kept calling for my name and "went outside" but I didnt show up so thats why she crossed my name out. She kept repeating that to me and was clearly mad and at this point I dont know what to do so I just say that I would put my name on the list again and wait for the next table that opens up. She interrupts me and tells me that we can sit at a nearby table that was being cleaned up. Even though we were seated and served I was very disappointed and frustrated that a hostess would get mad for not showing up because they only called out for a name. I understand when a place gets busy but what is the point for even putting our phone numbers down on the waiting list when they wont even call us? Best pho in Reno! My mom and I always get their pho tai and it's delicious. I love how they give a lot of noodles and meat, and they don't skimp on the veggies either. I also love their smoothies-- I've had the mango and the strawberry which are both the perfect sweet treat. You can tell they use real fruit and it doesn't have an artificial taste. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the pho because we usually devour it when we get home lol. We always order takeout but the one woman who's always there is very friendly and our order is always on time. Delicious food and friendly family service at 999 Pho - the best Vietnamese restaurant in Reno in our opinion. They have dozens of unusual dishes. This one consists of large BBQ'ed pork chop, egg cake, shrimp cake (delicious), and a serving of what's called pork skin (but isn't fatty at all). Its served on a bed of salad with a side of broken rice. The clear liquid is fish sauce - which tastes odd by itself but is wonderful on the food. Rather than avoid this, start off by using just a little and then, as you develop a taste for it, you can increase the amount you use. I love fish sauce and usually order a second bowl for my food. 999 Pho has many other wonderful dishes including numerous bun ones which are a vermicelli like rice noodle. Our waiter was like your dad who pretends everything you ask is a burden but really he was happy to do what you asked him to! He went above and beyond to make us laugh and he had a great personality! We came here twice on two separate occasions, once a few years ago and once a couple weeks ago. The first time we came here we had pho and dined in the restaurant. I remember being impressed with the quality and the price of the pho, good portions for less than $10. It was such a steal at that point. Recently we ordered take-out on the way to Lake Tahoe from Mount Shasta and decided to drop by here for an early dinner. The parking lot had tons of parking available on a Monday. It's located inside a small shopping mall with public restrooms being shared with other businesses. A bit run down and old area. We were craving Brodard's type sausage spring rolls so we got that, along with fried rice, and banh mi. The fried rice pretty decent and portions were a bit small for $10. The banh mi was OK, the portion of the veggies and meat were not as much as other place. I was still hungry after eating it. The sausage spring rolls tasted like it has been sitting out for awhile and they were skinny. We were a bit disappointed in the freshness of the foods and the portions. Not sure how and why this place got all the raving and high star rating that it did. It's my first time here and we chose it due to its high rating but what a huge mistake and disappointment it was. First the service, we sat for at least 10 minute before someone come and take our orders. We did not make any modifications or changes to our orders, in fact, we ordered using the number on the menu. Funny thing, one of our friends ordered a smoothie and were told by the "grumpy" owner that 'they will make it if they have time'. I was like WTF?? Really??? Three bowls of pho and a combination Vietnamese sandwich (#5 banh mi) took another 20 or 30 minutes before we get our foods. Did I mentioned that there were only 2 other tables occupied in the entire restaurant? Yeah and it was only around 10:30am. Service was overall super slow despite that it wasn't even crowded or busy hours. I'm not going to comment on the pho because it wasn't pho that I got. Yes, there were pho noodles and some beef in the bowl but it tasted nothing like pho. Let me just say that as a Vietnamese American and someone that been eating pho from Vietnam and at other famous Viet towns from Orange County and San Jose areas, so I KNOW my pho and how it should be. For those that knows enough about pho, how can you eat pho with basil leaves??? Yes, they brought us bean sprouts but NO basil! That's serving cereal without milk. The same flavoring of beef is used for the bun thit nuong. Can't go wrong with the pork. As for noodles, we tried several different types of soups. The best is the oxtail pho - there is something tasty about eating the tender meat off the bone. Pho dac biet is another bowl you can't go wrong. The wonton soup was tasty too if you do not want beef bone broth. Another alternative is the chicken bamboo soup was rich in flavor. Overall, soups and rice plates are great. I had the best Pho I have eaten in a while at 999 Pho. I ordered the pho with the rare beef and tendon. The meat was excellent. Next, the two key components in a great Pho are the noodles and the soup. The noodles were great. The broth was delicious. It had the rich beef flavor and thick but not too thick. There are so many pho places here, but this one stands above the rest! My go to is the wonton with egg noodle soup. The wontons are made in house, and the broth.... let's just say I've never left a drop in my bowl! Everything I've had here is fresh, flavorful, and consistent. The staff is fast and attentive. During COVID they get a special shout out for rocking it! This last visit I went right at 10am when they open on a Saturday and every table (they are spaced out and in some instances you have to sit side by side with your guests instead of facing which is no big deal) was filled. Haven't had pho in months and was looking fwd to some soul enriching goodness. Went a little early but there were some open tables left. I noticed they cleaned all the tables after each guest but chopsticks and soup spoons are still publicly shared at the table. Not sure how I feel about that but I'm still alive I guess!? It had great reviews and from the pictures, the food looked good. So the wife and I packed our stuff since we were heading back home. We stopped at this restaurant and it was busy with three large parties. We were seated quickly and provided water quickly. They nice Asian lady took our order. She has a great memory. I am super picky. I was like no onions in this, no lettuce in that and so on. She didn't write a single thing down. I thought she was going to screw our order up but she is a champ. Not one thing was screwed up. Our food came out super fast. Now the food was great. I loved everything we ordered from the egg rolls, Pho soup, the fried rice and a couple spring rolls. Now if I had one complaint, the pork used in the spring rolls were dry. Other than that, this place was awesome. We will be returning in July with my kids for their birthday parties. The food is good i'll admit that one, but they weren't very friendly with my family. We're Vietnamese (extremely fluent in Viet) and given that there's not many people who are Viet living in Reno, we thought they'd be a lot more friendly with us. The manager especially was rude, my dad had asked for a sharing bowl and she didn't say anything, just kind of threw the bowl down at us and walked away. The lady who took our order was the same, very nonchalant. However, the lady who sat us was nice, smiled and greeted us, I believe she was Hispanic. The beef pho here was excellent. Such a rich beef flavor without feeling heavy and had a nice cinnamon/ spice that wasn't overwhelming. The chicken salad was bi-polar - loved the chicken, which came warm, and was very delicious, but found the salad itself too sweet and overdressed. The spring roll was serviceable but nothing to write home about, and the wrapper was a bit too hard to chew. So skip everything and just get the pho. read more
