I was getting kind of tired of my normal workout routine so I googled kickboxing places near me and found 9Round. I was super nervous for my first workout so I brought 2 friends with me. I fell in love! It's only 30 minutes but I felt better after that workout than I do spending an hour and a half at the gym. It's really challenging but still allows you to go at your own pace. The workouts change every day so you don't get bored and are always met with something new, which is a nice change from most people's routines. I joined the next week and am going to be going about 3 times a week. The owner, Josh, is awesome and greets everyone by name when they walk in and says their name again when they leave. As someone who works in customer service, I find this very cool (and impressive!). I'm super stoked to see my results after a couple of months!

If you've never kickboxed before. The movements feel a bit awkward at first, but once your body gets used to it (after the first 10-15 minutes), the movements feel more natural and powerful. The staff is extremely friendly and supportive. They are available and very willing to answer any questions you have and provide guidance on your form. Prior to starting here, I had never kicked or punched a bag nor anyone. I'm so glad I tried it! If you're interested in trying the class, they have a great introductory package. For $20, you get 3 kickboxing classes and kickboxing gloves. After that, they offer a unlimited month class package or a 10 or 30 pack of classes.

I originally went in to inquire about the Fitness Kickboxing program and was able to spend some time speaking with Sensei George Nae. After talking for a while about my goals and reasons for looking into the program, he suggested that the Martial Arts program might suit me better. I gave it a try and have not looked back since. The facility is amazing, the programs (Fitness, Martial Arts and Martial Arts for kids) are all well rounded and enjoyable but my favorite part is the sense of community here. The people are friendly, supportive and amazing. It makes it easier to stick to a goal for fitness or MA specifically when you have similar minded people who are working for the same things in your corner cheering you on. I would definitely recommend HMA for Martial Arts, Fitness, or kids programs.

I did show choir…read morein high school and I enjoyed the dance aspect, so I Googled around for "dance fitness" classes near me in Carmel. Revel Fitness popped up and I had never heard of it. After scanning the website, I decided to check it out the next day, since the first class is free. After one class, I signed up for a membership ($39/month) and I've been to at least 2 classes a week since joining, if not 4-5 - which is unheard of for me. I like it THAT much. Revel's studio is within Primelife Enrichment in Carmel, but the clients are all ages. From my first class (Zumba with Erin) I felt welcomed and accepted. Each instructor has noticed I'm "the new kid" and gone out of their way to introduce themselves and welcome me to class. Revel is full of regulars but everyone has been friendly and many have asked my name and welcomed me to Revel. This is a community that I don't think I'd find at a larger studio or gym. Going to the gym in general has always made me feel uncomfortable, but here I can dance without worrying about how I look. I can just focus on having fun. This place checks off all the things on my list. It's close to where I live, affordable, welcoming and offers a variety of classes (Zumba, Pound, TurboKick, LaBlast). I actually look forward to my workouts and can't wait to continue my fitness journey with Revel!

With coaches who are actually certified. No personal trainers pretending to be coaches. Came for the first time using a Groupon, having been convinced by friends I should try it. I HIGHLY recommend it. Buy the two month Groupon because you will want to keep coming back. (And it's only for new members.) also buy the Groupon when they are running a special if you really want to save. Needless to say, my two month Groupon needed 4 months ago and I'm happily paying full monthly membership to come. The fee definitely keeps me motivated not to miss, but the people and coaches make the 30 minute journey across town worth it. There are very few workouts worth adjusting your schedule to not miss, and this is one. To the point where my friends know I hate to miss class so don't ask if it's during boxing. Classes are 75 minutes, which is definitely better than some boxing offerings in the city, and the workout is different each day. You're going to get your cardio, strength trainings and more when you come to class. Classes are: Tuesday/Thursday at 7 pm Every other Saturday at 1130 am Follow their fb page for updates on the schedule.

UPDATED Review--…read more After a year away from Indianapolis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I decided to give the revised format for initiating new students a try. And I have to say it made a huge difference in my experience. Last year I tried Indy BJJ and wound up with a bruised rib and feeling pretty lousy for a couple weeks while that healed. Prof. Eldred reached out to me earlier this year to let me know that they'd changed how they introduce new students to the system and invited me back when I was ready. In the interim, I trained heavily at Title Boxing in Glendale. Getting into much better shape there was probably a good start for this. The new system for initiating first-time students helps a lot, too. And this system brought back the missing stars from my previous review. The new system starts first with private instruction with Prof Eldred before joining a group class. That way when you get tossed into the group class, you're not totally at a loss as to what's being discussed. It doesn't mean the first class won't be confusing, it just means that you won't be going in totally blind. It really helped me to have more confidence. Grappling is one of my least favorite things. If, God forbid, I were ever in a real fight, I'd much prefer to rely on my boxing background. That said, BJJ is a proven defense system employed everywhere from police to military to combat sports. And it's a great work out that tests some very different muscles from boxing. So I feel like it's worth trying to learn. But it's intimidating as all get out! Those private primer classes directly from Prof. Eldred really took the sting off in jumping into group classes. If you're looking for a BJJ school that focuses on self-defense and has a rock-solid lineage back to the Gracies, this would be the right fit for you. I'll probably never be a good grappler, or even really enjoy it. But I've got some faith that under this school's tutelage, I'll at least be sufficient enough to have an idea of what I'm doing if I were ever in a grappling situation.

I signed up and I've been to three classes and while my technique isn't perfect I've learned almost a dozen movements and have a basic understanding of the transitions. Whether you've done martial arts or haven't this is the perfect dojo and instructor to get started or start again. If the junior instructors are any indication of the teaching then you'll see why I signed up for three months in advance. Hope to see you in class soon.

The experience kicked off in the best of ways with a very friendly welcome and tour of the space. I was really impressed by how large their building as in how many rooms and classes they were able to host at the same time. they offer a small shopping area three dressing rooms and several different weights to coordinate with different classes. My particular visit was for the hot stretch class which included intense stretching in a heated room for 30 minutes. It seemed that this was just what my body needed after a few days of spin classes. Note that if you do not have a mat, you can rent theirs for two dollars as well as towels and water bottles. I also appreciated that their first sample class was only eight dollars for new customers. Often times the $20 for a first class at other studios makes it a bit too much when you don't know what you're getting into.

Having trained with Antoni Hardonk at Dynamix MMA in Los Angeles and a world kickboxing champion back in Russia I had a solid kickboxing foundation but couldn't find a gym in Indy that would be equally satisfying and being as much joy. I researched a lot of martial arts and was always interested in Krav Maga and Sambo as the most practical and applicable in real life and it was great to find a certified Krav Maga venue nearby. After a free class I needn't have convinced myself anymore - I got the right vibe of the place and signed up the same week. Krav Maga Worldwide Indy is like a big family and I only met nice people here. Everybody is helpful and a great partner to practice all sorts of techniques. Jeff, Kevin, Mike, Junior are all different but equally amazing coaches who care about their students and are very knowledgeable.
