I recently had the exterior of my home painted and the A1 team did an exceptional job. Before we could start painting a lot of additional repairs were required. Three years ago I'd had a handyman fix the dry rot on my patio. Needless to say, the workmanship was shoddy. Scott and the "Apprentice" started working on this area first - shoring up the areas that were starting to sag, adding a border to make it more pleasing to the eye, replacing the screens all the way around, and adding a vinyl door to make it more secure (even added a doggy door for my fur babies)! They then moved to the side of the house, replacing the 60-year old door which enclosed the water heater, as well as installing a new steel side door for additional security. In the front of the house, the team removed and repaired a dry rot encrusted overhead beam, installed a new vertical beam in concrete, and removed an old falling apart brick enclosure to make room for a front deck with horizontal slats, so that mom can enjoy sitting in the front yard, chatting with family and friends. The team then moved to the three ugly brick columns that should have been a focal point for the home, but only served to draw attention to the age of the home, and the need for some serious work! The team removed the old brick and replaced it with beautiful marble stone. The new look required an update to the lighting fixtures to highlight that gorgeous rock, as well as a matching porch light to add to the beauty of the end product. By the way, Greg and team did all of the repair work (we had only one change order to add the deck, and the team didn't miss a beat)! Fortunately, the rain stopped and the painting began. We called them along with a few others to get bids on painting the outside of our house. We had the paint that was on the house when built in 2005, so it desperately needed to be repainted. Aside from giving us some good advice and info, he ended up being cheaper by $1000 from one and $3000 from the other. After going with him, we had a good conversation about choosing new colors (since a drab pea green color that it was when built was not what we wanted to go through with in repainting...). We played with a Sherman Williams app, found the color combination we wanted, he confirmed that this is what we could do, and we then went moving. The repaint took a total of 2.5 days. The crew he had doing this was helpful, the lead on the crew communicated well and constantly with us, and the job went very well. After it was over, the owner was out here checking every nook and cranny to make sure nothing was missing. From start to finish, things went great and we were very happy. read more

Yelp makes you leave one star, but, if I could...my rating would be in the negative range. BEWARE potential customers. Dishonest grifter owner (Greg Davis) and subpar, sloppy, shoddy painting. Horrible job. Took a 2-3 day job and had his 3-man "crew" slap it on in under 11 hours. They damaged my home and property, applied one coat (I was promised and charged for two coats and back-rolling in between). Davis never touches a paintbrush but will go on how he's been in "business for 35 years and has 40 positive reviews". He shows up to promise the world and then to pick up a check. He isn't on site overseeing his crew (who are also upset with him -see photo). Apparently, he finds guys to call a crew and not actual "employees". Employees do better work. He will pop in and out, but not for any length of time, or to listen to concerns. No fixtures or doorknobs were removed. There was overspray of one color onto another. They didn't move objects up against beams, therefore leaving areas completely unpainted. They didn't allow the home to dry after power washing, nor did they move or cover anything nearby (my new electric, battery operated, self propelled lawn mower, AC unit, hot tub, for example). They damaged hundreds of my coveted plants, pots, and plant stands ("so, we'll knock a couple bucks off for the plants and Carlos can pay for the pot"). He never was present to see the full damage. He denied responsibility. After power-washing, they caulked quickly and sloppily, then started applying paint 30 minutes after caulking, and on wet home, causing paint to come off the next day. I dread the winter and seeing what my home looks like come spring. My home is in worse condition than before it was painted and I'm still making repairs (they painted my security cameras and light fixtures, to where you cannot adjust or move lights or sensors)...ALL (4) needed replacing. They painted some security cameras, covering only the camera lens portion, and only the bulbs on motion-sensor security cameras. The most serious issue is the separation/cracking of caulking on each side of garage entry door. I'll need this repaired sooner than later before the rainy season or I'll have water damage to my wood/frame. When, the following day, after I brought up several issues needing addressing, he began to deflect blame ("those aren't our drip marks. I guarantee those are from whoever painted house before), deny responsibility, accuse me of damaging my own property ("unless you got a paintbrush"), became hostile ("are you nuts?") and, when, I pointed to hardware/debris on lawn...he reached down and picked up, mocking me..."see how easy that is" and, once he believed his lead crew man over me (regarding not moving new lawnmower until long after power-washing), I knew it was fruitless of me to continue on trying to resolve ALL or ANYMORE of the issues...issues which I am STILL finding as of yesterday (not removing an awning track...I have no awning)...and when I reviewed all video camera coverage, I was HORRIFIED. Davis, after only several minutes of tour of concerns/"issues", became hostile, loud, yelled at me (as his lead did, apologizing after I called him on it), intimidating, unprofessional ("I bet you don't have the money to pay", "I'll slap a lien on your home") and threatening (which is why I believe people are afraid to post negative reviews). He becomes loud, intimidating, threatening, hostile, unprofessional, and frightening. Will continue with review with post more photos (I've so many) at a later date...but, please, do NOT make the same mistake I did...you WILL regret it and you'll want your home repaired and repainted by a truly reputable company afterwards. All this guy wants is a check. It's the principle to me. I hope you don't make the same mistake I did...there are no refunds on sloppy paint jobs. Further, read up on when not to paint your home (contractors with integrity won't paint after Sept 30 and will allow at least 24 hours dry time after power washing. Do your homework or you'll end up with regret and an inferior paint job. NOTE: See more photos on my page and message me for more info, photos by others who complain, etc. At the very least, do what I should've done and Google him/his company for reviews, license violation(s), other "proverbial bad apples", and "business partner", workers (not employees) in Texas, Clearlake, and the Sacramento area. I guess I'm not the only "proverbial bad apple". Your home is your investment. Invest wisely. NOTE: Every day or two, 2-4 times a day, Yelp notifies me this "professional" has commented/edited his review. LOL. No wonder people don't complain. You, too, can have a stalker by posting a negative review with photos which he removes from his Yelp page. ONLY 4 more today (so far)...what a joke. read more

Pathetic customer service! This man comes across as angry & defiant. He's a scammer who overcharges his customers. Not the type of person you want to trust your home with! I called him offering a large job with a $15,000k labor budget. Ready to start ASAP. We needed all Interior and exterior paint for a recently purchased home in Woodland. He was so unfriendly, and unprofessional! I called offering him a large job, and he acted like an angry child. I asked some basic questions about his availability & the size of his crew. He responded with one word answers in a childish, angry, put-out tone. He's ruining his own business by acting like this. Today he lost $15,000. We were serious, well off clients, ready to start the job tomorrow! I just can't imagine how much money his pathetic attitude has lost him over the years. We were very accommodating customers but this was the worst experience. Owner claims he stands behind his work but he does not. Crew broke items while painting (and tried to cover it up), tracked paint in the house, missed portions of trim, and before beginning the job were yelled at by the owner such that our neighbors complained. Within a week parts of the porch paint is peeling off. We sent a photo to the owner, no response. Couple of months on it is clear by the peeling paint that the porch was not prepared adequately before painting. We contacted the owner who was nice at first, then told us it was our fault for power washing the porch. He said he would send to someone from his crew out to prime and repaint the peeling portions, but was unwilling to clean and prepare the surface. I can't say enough good things about Greg and A-1 Painting. We were frantically looking for a good painter to get our duplex ready to sell. We needed the entire interior painted. We were told by other companies that they were too busy and that the job was too small. Greg actually called us back even though he was really booked too. He listened to my concerns and was able to find time. The other challenge was the color. We had no idea what color we wanted. We just knew we needed it neutral. Greg made a suggestion and it turned out beautiful! We actually had forgotten that the closet doors to one of the bedrooms was in the garage.
